300 years ago, the Clover Kingdom was completely different; back then, there were no Magic Knights, and what was going to become the Forsaken Realm was home to a tribe of people known as the elves.

Elves were an extremely powerful race that was highly attuned to nature and the mana that covered the land. Like humans, they received grimoires; at the age of 15, the young leader of the elves one day received his grimoire.

"Wow, I can't believe it!"

"Licht and his Sword Magic have been chosen by the four-leaf clover grimoire."

Everyone cheered for Licht, and the young boy looked at his mother.

"Why is everyone so excited, Mom?" he asked.

"Well, my dear, only a select few can get a grimoire like that, and it gives them an extra helping of good luck," she explained.

"Aww," said the boy in awe. "Licht and his four-leaf grimoire… he's so cool."

The young boy frequently spent as much time as he could with Licht; today, he was out in the meadow with Rhya.

"There you are," he said, running over to them.

"This kid again?" Rhya sighed. "Look, stop coming over here and bugging us every day. It's such a pain. Get lost."

The boy, whose name was Patry, narrowed his eyes at him. "I'm not here because I wanted to hang out with you."

"Why did you say Shorty?" said Rhya.

Licht merely smiled. "Oh, I don't mind if he stays Rhya. This isn't a bother to me at all." He then looked at Patry. "Thank you for stopping by, I'm glad you're here."

"Whatever," said Rhya, rolling his eyes.

Patry happily sat next to Licht and began to discuss something that's been on his mind.

"What do you think about all this?" he asked.

"Hmm?" Licht frowned.

"You know, there's been a lot of talk about humans planning to attack us," he said.

"I'm sure it's a rumour," said Licht confidently.

"It's still a possibility, though, isn't it? I mean, think the human race is so wicked and mean-spirited that they slaughter animals for the sport of it without even giving it a second thought. They don't have much power on their own, but a big group can be dangerous when they get carried away. Even though we elves help them from natural disasters a long time ago."

"They're probably afraid," said Licht.

"What?" Patry blinked.

"Both sides are afraid; we have things in common but fear what we don't know. Regardless of that, this land blesses everyone equally with magical grimoires. So why wouldn't we understand each other?"

Patry remained silent, not sounding completely convinced, but they suddenly heard a loud noise.

"What's that thing?" Patry asked as he looked towards the horizon.

They turned and saw a large tornado suddenly appearing out of nowhere.

"A tornado of natural mana running wild," said Licht.

"It's awfully big, isn't it?" said Patry.

"Yeah, but it should die on its own," said Rhya, yawning. "Man, talk about a pain."

They then heard a scream.

"What's that?" Ryha asked.

They looked up and saw that, trying to escape the tornado, a human girl was writing about her tornado's wind. Licht quickly jumped to his feet and dashed towards opening his grimoire.

"What's he doing?" Patry asked.

They then saw a human boy dressed rather regally chasing after the tornado from the other direction.

"Looks like there's someone inside the tornado," said Patry.

"Yeah, it does," Rhya agreed.

"Sword Magic: Origin Flash!" said Licht.

A sword appeared in his hand, and he swung, unleashing a slash of light straight at the tornado.

"Light Magic: Lamp of Avior!" the boy yelled.

He then fired a blast of light straight at the tornado; both attacks clashed with the dispelling it.

"He's okay," said Patry, looking at Licht. "Licht is amazing stopping that big thing."

Licht landed on the ground and quickly jumped back into the air to catch the girl who was falling.

Patry then looked at the boy. "But wait… that light mage was using spells as powerful as his. I wonder who that guy is?"

"You're not hurt, you," said Licht, looking at the girl.

"No, I'm fine," she said, her face turning bright pink as she looked at him. "Thank you for saving me."

"Tetia," said the boy rushing over. "Don't leave the castle like that."

"I'm sorry," she said.

"Besides, a Wind Magic user like you isn't supposed to getting herself caught in a mana tornado," he continued. "What were you thinking?"

He then turned and looked at Licht gratefully. "Thank you for saving my sister."

"It's no…" Licht stopped when he noticed his grimoire, seen and had a four-leaf clover on it.

The boy looked confused until Licht showed him his.

Rhya and Patry soon joined, and they noticed the boy's grimoire.

"Hey, look at his grimoire," said Patry. "It's a four-leaf like yours, but he's human."

"Prince Lemiel!" a voice yelled.

They turned and saw a man roughly his age rushing towards them; he had shaggy red hair and piercing green eyes. Strapped to his waist was a sword, and he was wearing armour.

"Don't rush off like that," he said, panting. "I am supposed to be your guard, after all."

"Sorry, Hiccup, but there was no time to explain," said Lemiel.

"Did he just say, Prince?" Patry blinked.

As it turned out, he was a prince, and his name was Lemiel Jorgonmillion. He was currently the next in line to become King. He was an extremely powerful mage but was known to be quite eccentric.

This was not the last time that Lemiel and Licht met, as he constantly kept returning with his sister. Vetto, Rhya, and Patry watched as the three of them talked.

"Licht has been spending quite a lot of time with those two lately," said Vetto as he patted the chipmunk on his shoulder.

"You can say that again," said Rhya. "It seems like he's happy to have some human friends, but they really are good people. Apparently, they have the same ideas about society as he does."

"Idea?"

"They all believe that humans and elves can figure out how to live together peacefully."

"Oh, is that so."

"Sadly, that sentiment is not shared with the rest of His Highness's family," said Hiccup as he joined them. "I just hope they play this carefully. All it might blow up in their faces."

"Quite a downer, aren't you," said Rhya.

"No, I'm a pragmatist; I hope for the best and prepare for the worst," said Hiccup. "His Highness can be quite eccentric; I can't tell you how many times his experiments have blown up in his face. While he does not need someone to protect him, he does need someone to rein him in."

"And how does that work out?"

"Let me put it this way: they don't pay me nearly enough."

Patry just sat there. 'It's hard to see an elf making friends with humans, but if he's doing it, I guess it must not be such a bad thing. Besides, the light mage was good enough to be chosen by the four-leaf clover grimoire, too, so they're not that different.'

Hiccup then walked up to inform them that it was time to go, and Lemiel waved them goodbye. Rhya and Vetto returned the gesture, but Patry did not.

Lemiel kept visiting and soon met with every elf in the village.

"Let's foster understanding," he said. "Your Elvish mana is really a remarkable thing. Combining that with our magic item technology will make this land safer and more prosperous. Let us all work together, hand in hand."

His speech moved everyone, but Licht and Tetia took it a step further and held hands.

Eventually, the two of them fell in love, and it came as no surprise to anyone that Tetia became pregnant.

"Is it true? You were with child?" Vetto asked.

"Aw, with you as parents, it will be a lovely baby," said Fana.

"Hey, congrats, Tetia, and you too, I guess," said Rhya, placing a hand on Licht's shoulders.

Licht laughed. "Well, thank you for including me, Rhya."

Rhya then looked at Patry, noticing he was not as thrilled as everyone else. "What are you pouting about, tiny?"

"It's nothing," he said, not looking at him.

"You're still little; you'll understand one day."

"Would you shut up!" he snapped. "Stop talking down to me like I'm some stupid baby."

"Excuse me, big man," Rhya smirked.

Given Tetia's condition, it was decided that she would live with the elves. The reason was that even though the elves had a large amount of mana and Licht was the leader of the elves, many of the Royal family were unhappy with the union. They had planned to marry her to a powerful Noble family.

A few months passed, and Rhya walked up to everyone who had gathered.

"Oh yeah, there you are," he said as he approached.

"Hello, Rhya," said Licht.

"Waking up is a pain to now? Vetto teased.

"You're the worst," Fana scolded.

"Oh, get off my case," said Rhya. "Oh, and Patry, I see you're still clinging onto Licht like nobody's business. He's going to belong to a human after tomorrow's big ceremony, so you better start letting go of him."

"Leave me alone, Rhya," said Patry harshly. "That's my choice to make, not yours."

"Hey, watch your tone," said Rhya.

"It's all right," Tetia smiled. "Even after we get married, Licht will still belong to everybody."

"Man, you human princesses are so generous," said Rhya. "I'd be careful what you promise if I were you, though Tetia. Before long, there won't be any room in his busy schedule to spend time with you."

"You don't have to be so blunt about things," said Vetto gently. "Patry knows what to expect."

"So what's it like knowing you'll be a father in a few months?" Fana asked.

"I can sense that the mana has blessed our lives as well," said Licht. "When our child arrives, we know your kind will welcome it, and we are very grateful."

Tetia smiled as Licht rested his hand on her stomach. "This little one here is the key to our future, the bridge to unite elves and humankind."

A few days later, the wedding ceremony began, and every elf had gathered to congratulate the newlyweds.

"Good luck!"

"We wish you the best!"

"Congratulations!"

"Thank you all very much," said Tetia, placing a hand over her stomach.

Her brother had appeared a few days earlier to congratulate the two of them, as he was entirely confident he would be able to make it in time for the ceremony itself.

"Take care of her, okay, Licht," he said to Licht.

"Yes, I swear that I will keep her safe no matter what," Licht promised.

Back in the present, the newlyweds were smiling down at everyone who had gathered.

"My friends, thank you for joining us," said Licht. He then looked down at Party. "Come to think of it, aren't you receiving your grimoire tomorrow?"

"Whoa, you remembered?" Patry beamed.

"Well, how could I forget something so important?"

Patry smiled.

"I look forward to seeing what kind of grimoire chooses you as its owner," said Licht.

"Me too," he said excitedly.

"How sweet," said Fana, looking at Tetia in awe. "I want to be a bride."

"I'm sure you'll meet your soulmate someday, too, Fana," Tetia smiled.

"Yeah, and hopefully soon," she said.

"May the rest of your days be happy ones," said Vetto.

"Thank you," said Tetia gratefully.

"And you better tell me if this guy is unfaithful; I'll smack around for you," said Rhya, pointing at Licht.

Everyone laughed.

"Rhya, don't say that," said Licht.

"Nah, it's all in fun," he said.

'He looks like he's really happy, but to tell the truth, he kinda always looked happy,' said Patry. His eyes then turned to Tetia. 'I hate to admit it, but it seems like the ones who have made him even happier are her and that other human. I wonder if we can really come to understand each other like he said we could. Licht believes it's possible; maybe they're right. Elves and human beings living side-by-side.'

However, this guy suddenly darkened, and blades of light rained down from the sky, skewering all the elves that had gathered at the ceremony.

"What's going on?" Patry cried.

"It's the humans they're attacking us!"

"Very one this way!" Fana yelled as she tried to evacuate everyone. "This way!"

Rhya tried to use his magic but found he was unable to do so. "My magic won't work."

Then, a light sword pierced his stomach, and he collapsed.

"Our magic, it's been sealed away!" said Vetto. He then rushed over to a nearby woman and knocked her aside. "Get down!"

He was then skewered by the light swords, and his chipmunk looked up at him.

"You have to get out of here," he said. The chipmunk did what he was told and scampered off. "Hateful… humans…"

His body then went limp.

"This is Light Magic," said Patry. "Does that mean…" His thought turned to Lemiel. "No, this is some mistake. It's not true!"

He was then struck by one of the swords and collapsed; from there, he could hear everyone screaming and begging for mercy.

"No, I refuse to believe it!" he cried as he rose to his feet. "It's not real! None of this is real! No, no, no, no! No way, no way, no way! I won't accept it! I will never!"

The magic circle above suddenly expanded and unleashed even more blades, and a second one pierced through his chest. Finally, the blades stopped raining down, and the magic circle disappeared, but the entire place was littered with dead bodies.

He had enough strength to lift his head and saw Licht carrying Tetia, who appeared to have been struck by one of the swords, in his arms.

"Is that you, Licht?" he said, his vision becoming hazy.

He saw that Licht was sobbing and then dark magic circles above his head.

"Licht," he said before everything went black.

When he regained consciousness, he found himself in a strange room.

'What is this place?' he said as he looked around. 'What happened to me? I thought I was dead.'

He then looked down at his hands and saw they were much older. 'These hands, they're not mine.'

He then went to the nearest mirror and saw that his face was completely different. It now bore a strong resemblance to Licht. He also noticed that he appeared to be human.

"I look like Licht," he said, discovering that his voice also sounded like his. 'What is this? Have I become him somehow? Did my spirit plant itself in his body? That's not it; judging by how this mana feels, the body that I am in is human. A human that looks like Licht. I see, so I really did die.'

He then turned to his last memories of Licht and the forbidden spell he was casting. 'Whatever Licht unleashed when our magic was sealed away, it must've been some kind of forbidden spell. And something extremely powerful, too, like Reincarnation Magic.'

Patry then went to the window and saw several small lights hovering over the village.

"This light," he said, instantly recognising the lights. 'I can sense that, every single one. I can feel Rhya's soul and the souls of all the other elves in this village. Licht must have done this in the final few seconds of his life, all for our people's sake.'

He then watched as one of the lights flew down towards a passerby and went straight through him.

'But so far, it seems I'm the only one who's been completely revived,' he said, and then he remembered something. 'Oh yeah, his grimoire.'

He made his way and grabbed the grimoire of his host, but he found that he was unable to use any spells in it.

'It chose to bond with Licht, the soul that truly belongs inside this body. So I won't be able to use it.'

To that end, he left the house and went to the nearest grimoire tower.

'I'm not sure whether or not this was meant to happen to me, but I am the only one who came back to life,' he said. 'Not only that, but I came back looking like Licht. I am the only one who can save the rest of the elves.'

Yet, when he reached the grimoire tower, he was relieved to find that it was empty and then made his way to the centre.

'Which means I have been chosen. I will become Licht, no matter what it takes. I will revive all the elves; as for the humans…'

He then held out his hands on one of the grimoires, which flew straight towards him, and his eyes widened when he discovered it was a four-leaf grimoire. He took this as confirmation, as if everything he believed had happened was true.

"For going back on their word, for killing the people I loved, they must pay. I swear they will be annihilated."

Time went by, and Patry began to learn everything that had transpired. He discovered that time had moved forward 300 years, and even though the humans responsible had long since died, he still believed it was life's mission to bring retribution down upon their descendants.

To that end, he formed the Eye of the Midnight Sun and revived a few of his fallen elves. He found someone who looked exactly like Rhya and used Licht's similarly forbidden spell to revive him.

"Forbidden Magic: Evil Eye!" he said.

A third eye appeared upon Rhya's forehead, and he opened his eyes.

"Ah, it would appear you're finally awake," said Patry, though he now went by the name Licht. "This unit has a similar wavelength, so I viewed your soul with magic from the other world to support your reincarnation into this body. Gathering enough magic power to make that possible wasn't easy, you know. So please don't cause me any more trouble, okay Rhya."

"Wait, you're Patry," said Rhya, recognising the tone. "Why are you…"

"Your old friend Licht can revive everyone; that is the mission that he… no, I must fulfil," said Patry. "You get it, don't you?"

"Yeah, Licht," Rhya smiled. "I hear ya."

He then rose to his feet and discovered he wasn't alone; he saw Fana standing behind him, though she was much younger, and Vetto, though he was much more muscular.

"You're here too," he said.

"Rhya," said Fana.

"About time, sleepyhead, rise and shine," said Vetto.

Rhya yawned. "It was good to sleep in, but five more minutes would have been great."

"As you can see, I also resurrected these two," said Patry, gesturing to Fana and Vetto.

A while ago, Party found a human resembling Vetto in the woods. It looked like he had been cast out of his village because of his appearance and hunted down like a beast.

'Vetto, you were a gentle soul who loved to befriend animals,' said Party. 'Yet this world has shown you only cruelty.'

He then outstretched his hand. "Live with me as you once did."

He then used the forbidden spell to resurrect Vetto. "It is not you who should be despairing but those unconscionable humans. You must remember your true self."

Patry then ventured into the Diamond Kingdom, where he discovered a young girl resembling Fana and bearing her name. She looked as if she had been experimented on and cast aside like some sort of broken toy.

"What a tragedy," he said, looking at her. "To think that we were once friends. I suppose the world never changes. If humans are so determined to harm each other, then we'll just help them along the way. However, we're going to need your body, so let's keep you alive."

He then outstretched his hand to use the forbidden spell. 'Fana, your appearances are so similar, and you share the same name. This cannot be a coincidence. You do not need to suffer the same sad fate at this age. Now awaken.'

Once he revived the three of them, he brought them to the stone tablet.

'So these three were the souls that I was able to restore at this juncture; it's as if they never died. But I will need greater power to bring back the rest, so I must make even more sacrifices.'

Patry then smiled at the three of them. "To that end, we will gather magic stones that were once kept within our village but have since been scattered far and wide, and we will use humans to do it. Pretty smart, don't you think?"

"Oh, yeah," said Rhya.

"Agreed, let's begin," said Fana.

"We'll get back at those hateful scum," said Vetto. "I'll make sure they'll suffer endless despair."

"Indeed," said Patry as he turned to the tablet. "The great rebirth will start with the humans."

Back in the present, Patry had just begun the ritual that would revive the elves, but like all forbidden magic, it required a price. A life for a life, and to that end, he began to sacrifice the Eye of the Midnight Sun.

"Wait, we're going to kick off the rebirth?" said Rades. "You're singing a different tune than you used to. I thought this was the part where we required a huge power boost. I see what's going on; you tricked us, didn't you!"

Rades then saw his body was beginning to disintegrate, and pain rushed throughout the entirety of his body.

"Now what?!" he cried.

The same thing began to happen to Sally and Valtos.

"It can't be," said Valtos.

"From the very moment I gathered you three to serve as my allies, you were marked as sacrifices for this forbidden magic," said Patry. "And now it is time that you receive your true names."

"Forbidden Magic?" Valtos stared.

"You're kidding me!" Rades yelled. "What makes you think I'm going to go with whatever random off-the-wall name you throw at me, huh? I'm Rades, and that's that!"

"No, Master Licht!" Sally pleaded. "Please don't!"

"I just can't believe this," said Vatlos shocked. "All this time… I thought we were your most cherished friends!"

"Yes, you truly were," said Patry sincerely.

"Then why?"

"I needed you; after all, you're the sacrificial lambs who will bring back my real friends. You're very dear to me."

Their eyes widened in horror.

"Damn you, Licht!" Rades roared.

Their bodies then disintegrated, and their souls flew up into the air.

The tablet then began to glow even brighter.
