So this fic came along when I remember how much disappointed I was when it wasn't reveled that Kai wasn't a child of Garmadon. Young me thought she had connected the dots when she saw a picture of Young Lord Garmadon with brown hair and with the same cocky smirk that Kai has...and thus, this fic was created so I can get over the urge of having a Kai as a child of Garmadon and feel vindicated...and I just added Pokemon because I like crossovers and I find that a lack of Pokemon Ninjago is rather sad. So I hope you all enjoy! Please leave a comment
A loud cry was heard, red eyes looking up from the drawing of two large dragons in flight. One dragon a bright green, the other a deep purple and red dragon. Dropping her crayon, the little girl pushes herself off the floor.
"It's ok Lloyd," the girl mutters to the small babe in the crib that was against the wall in the room. "Mama might not be here…again," she frowns a bit, "but papa is here. And once he's done talking with Uncle he's going to make us snacks!"
The small boy sniffles, tears in his green eyes but he smiles as he looks up to his big sister. The girl smiles brightly, holding back the urge to coo at how adorable her little brother was before a loud crack was heard.
Gasping, she turns her head to the window. What was once a clear sunny day, though the sun had been setting, was now dark and cloudy. Thunder rumbles and lightning flashes in the sky. "Where did the storm come from…" she looked at the door when she heard grunts, "Lloyd stay here! Imma see Uncle and Papa!"
Not looking back, the girl runs out of the monastery, and her red eyes widen at the sight before her. Her Papa's Hydreigon roars in agony as her Uncle's Gallade surges forward, repeatedly slashing down at her head with his blade that was glowing in orange energy, sending the Dark-Dragon Type to the ground.
Her papa was slowly stalking towards her uncle, the sword of flames rising to strike him down, "Goodbye, brother,"
"Garmadon! Do not do this!" Her uncle pleaded as the symbols on his kimono began to glow.
"Papa!" Her eyes wide in fear as a bolt of lightning struck his form, his body changing before her eyes. Taking a step forward, she screams out as her papa loses his balance, falling backwards into a crack of the very earth.
"Noooooooo!"
Red eyes snap open, a scream dying off her lips. Panting, her eyes flicker about the room, a sigh escaping her as she sees it was her room in Ignacia Village. Shivering, she flops back into her bed, taking deep breaths at the dream.
"No… memory." Kai thought, frowning at the incident that caused her to lose her first family. The day she lost her father…
"Kai! Kai! Wake up! I want breakfast," chuckling, Kai pushes herself up, slipping out of her bed.
"Hold your horses Nya! I'll get you your pancakes!" She shakes her head at the squeal she heard, heading to her desk and grabbing the hair band and tying her messy brown hair into a ponytail. She looks at her reflection, pale skin no matter how many days she stayed out in the sun helping the rice farmers for a bit of extra cash. A scar went across her face, cutting into her right eyebrow. Which she gained after trying to make a swingana, a half sword half yo-yo… and the results landed on her face. Her hair was a deep dark brown, going to her shoulders when it was down, and spiky at the top. Her eyes were a brilliant red, almost like rubies. Many people in the village were afraid of seeing these eyes, always looking away from her.
"Kai! Pancakes!" Chuckling, Kai shakes her head and heads to the dresser, pulling out a white shirt and a pair of brown slacks.
Fifteen years since her Dad's disappearance after his fight with her Uncle. Fifteen years and now Kai Garmadon was a twenty year old woman raising her 15 year old sister in all but blood. After that dreadful night, her mother had all but taken them from the temple, leaving her to her Uncle Ray and Aunt Maya who gladly took her in to raise alongside their newborn daughter. She never knew what happened to her mother, or her younger brother after that fateful night.
"Mreow," Kai turns her head, smiling at the small black kitten as it's stretched itself on her bed, opening its red fur muzzle wide in a yawn. Shaking its head, it blinks its yellow eyes at her.
Kai couldn't help but giggle, scooping up the Litten into her arms, "Don't worry Salem, you're getting your food too," she promises, cradling him close to her chest as she heads down the stairs. Chuckling as he purrs when she begins to scratch him behind the ear.
"To forge a perfect weapon," Kai mutters between pants as she hammers away at a boiling red metal, trying to shape it to perfection. Sweat drip off her face, and she takes another deep breath, "first you need the right metal and plenty of heat," she nods her head, gripping the handle tightly in her hand, "cool it off," Kai mutters, plunging it into an old bucket filled with water. She bites at her lips, watching as steam rises up, "and presto!" Pulling it out, her smile turns into a frown.
The blade that emerged from the water, really couldn't be called a blade anymore. The metal was so bent, it was curling into a spiral, "well… that could had gone better," Kai mutters, turning her gaze to Salem. The Litten just stares at her, making Kai huff, "thank for the support bud,"
A giggle erupted from the entrance of the shop, and both turned their gaze towards a girl with short black hair that was fashioned into a bob cut. Her blue eyes looked at Kai in amusement, dropping down her bag as walked over the threshold, "You made it too quickly, Kai. Be patient, if father was still here, he'll said,"
"I know Nya," Kai huffs, blowing a strand of her brown hair out of her face, "But Uncle Ray is not… and I have to get this order done by tomorrow or I won't get paid full price!" She wipes her arm across her brow, scrunching up her face at all the sweat. Turning around to grab more metal, she blinks at the sight of the older man, just standing at the entrance.
The man stared at her, dressed in all white, and carrying a very familiar bamboo staff, which made Kai frown. He runs a hand through his long white beard, so long the end reaches his belly. "Hmmmm your metal is loud and heavy. Useful to slow one down, useless for the art of stealth. All tools for a samurai" he bangs the staff against a helmet that her Uncle Ray had forged, one of the last few things he made before him and Aunt Maya left, "but nothing for a ninja?" He retorted, looking up at her.
Kai opens her mouth, but stops short when she sees his golden eyes. It's been a long time since she saw those eyes, but she remembers them, even if they were now on an older face, "Ninja," she growls, hands curling into fists. Salem stood up, sensing his mistress distress, "your a long way from finding a ninja in these parts, Uncle Wu,"
"Hmmm so you do remember me," the older man hums, "it has been fifteen years, and both of us have aged since then. Me… quite a bit," he chuckles.
"And I could have gone many more years without seeing you!" Kai snaps, the flames from the stove flickering brighter in her anger. She takes a deep breath, "Get out," she growls, turning her back to him.
"Kailyn," Uncle Wu gently whispers, taking a step forward. But Salem hisses, spitting an ember at his feet, making him jump back.
"Fifteen years…" Kai hisses, "it's been fifteen years since I heard from you, from mom… I don't even know where Lloyd is….and now you're just showing up, like some weird old man? Insulting my work," she turns her head over her shoulder, "whatever you want? I don't want to hear it, especially from the man who killed my father,"
Uncle Wu looks at her, golden gaze hard before he sighs, "hhhmp too bad," he shakes his head, "thought I would find something special,"
Kai kept her back turned, not even daring to turn around and watch him leave. "Kai?" she exhales, turning towards Nya who looked at her in concern, "Are you alright? Who…who was that man…why did you call him Uncle?"
"It doesn't matter Nya," Kai whispers, wrapping her arms around herself, "Just an old man who doesn't know that he is no longer wanted,"
Nya stares at her, blue eyes filled with uncertainty before a loud rumble roared in their ears. Both girls and Salem turn their heads to see dark clouds quickly forming in the once sun-setting sky. Kai swallows, a pit forming in her stomach. She took a step in front of Nya just as the rumbles grew louder and louder as a giant vehicle drove up the hill that overlooked the village. Kai's eyes widened though, seeing that the drivers of the large vehicles were walking, talking skeletons, "Skulkin? What are Skulkin doing here?!"
"Uh…Kai?" Nya looks at her, blue eyes widen in fear and shock, "What are skulkin?"
"Skulkin are fallen warriors who were unable to come to terms with their deaths. When they died, they find themselves wandering Giratina's realm, the Distortion Realm," Kai found herself mumbling, reciting the stories her father would tell her, "They wander and wander, finding themselves becoming husks of the people they were once was. Drink would not satisfy, food turned to ash in their mouths, nor the company in the world would harm, or sale their lust…they become curse…compelled by the greed that consume them in their living days, they are now barred from the Departed Realm. Highly resentful and jealous of the living, they attacked anything in their sight,"
Kai bites at her lower lip, watching as the skulkin began driving down the hill, towards their shop. Some of the rice farmers tried to stop them, but they were soon run off, having to avoid the large monster truck, "Nya, stay here!" she orders, placing some of the armor hanging around the shop onto herself and grabbing a sword.
She slowly eyes one of the Skulkin that leaps off one of the motorcycle, blocking the bone that he swung at her head with her sword. Salem hisses, spitting flames at one that tried to stab at her left side, before leaping up towards his head. Kai had to fight the urge to laugh as he cries out, trying to grab Salem to pull him off as the Litten bites at his skull. Swinging her blade, Kai grins when she knocks the head off of one before she jumps back just in time to dodge the ax that was aimed at her head.
"Ow!" yelping Kai looks down, seeing the skull she had knocked off biting into her ankle. Eyes glowing red, making the skulkin freeze Kai pulls her leg back, "Bite this!" swinging her leg, her foot smacks into the skulkin's head sending it flying into the air, even over the roof of the shop. Two skulkin began to clap in amazement, but yelp as they were knocked to the ground by a gush of water.
Spinning on her heel, Kai narrows her eyes at the sight of Nya who grins, holding Siren, her Popplio, in her arms. Siren cheers, clapping her flippers together all but ignoring the glare at Kai sent her cousin, "I thought I told you to stay back?"
Nys smiles, "And what? Let you and Salem have all the fun?" she snaps back, before turning around, Siren shooting out another water gun to hit the skulkin sneaking up from behind in the chest. Kai rolled her eyes, even as Salem runs back to her side. Her red eyes looking about as they slowly got surrounded. She frowns a bit, when she heard a ringing in her ear, sounding like the dial tone from a phone when a much larger skulkin stalked towards her.
Her lips curled, showing her slightly sharp fangs, but Kai's eyes widen when the skulkin reveals he had four arms, each hand holding a blade in its grasp, "Shit," she whispers before she held up her sword. This one was more skilled than the others, and too quick, easily whacking her sword out of her hands and kicking her straight in the chest. Kai grunts, wheezing as the air was forced out of her lungs once she landed on her back, pushing herself up enough to see Salem being kicked as well, the litten hitting the wall of the shop. Red eyes, filled with malicious glee, gazing at her as he slowly stalks towards her.
But before he could get any closer, a golden tornado slams into his side, the skulkin being forced to take a few steps back, his bone hands trying to keep hold of his daggers. "Sensei Wu," he growls, as the golden light dissipates to reveal Uncle Wu, standing in front of Kai protectively, "Your Spinjitzu looks rusty," he taunts.
"Nothing like bone to sharpen its edge, Samukai," Uncle Wu calmly stated, before cries were heard. Both SamuKai and Kai looked over, a Gallade with his blades glowing pink was attacking the remaining skulkins that stayed when Uncle Wu revealed himself. The others had started to flee back to their vehicles when the golden tornado had started to slam into their leader.
Samukai frowns, anger shining through his lighted sockets before he looks at Kai and chuckles. Before Uncle Wu could stop him, Samukai throws his daggers, straight into the legs of the old water tower. Kai looks up with wide eyes, watching as said water tower slowly began to fall towards her, trying to scramble back. Her heart quickens in fear, but Kai is scooped up by a golden tornado, before she once more falls onto the ground, Uncle Wu laying beside her, quickly pushes himself up.
Samukai though had already retreated with the others, sneering at them, "Lord Garmadon says take the girl!" he shouted out once he was seated. Kai pushes herself up, eyes widened at hearing that name just in time to see a mechanical bony hand fired and wrapping itself around Nya and Siren.
"No!" Crying out in dismay, Kai runs, just as the large monster truck drives off. She falters to a stop, knowing that no matter how much she ran, she would never catch up. Her shoulders tremble as her eyes burn with tears that threaten to stream down her face. She could feel Salem rubbing against her legs, mewing sadly at her. "Nya," she whispers, squeezing her eyes shut.
But then something bonked against her head, "Useless," Uncle Wu mutters and that made Kai let out a roar of anger, swinging her fist at his face. But of course her Uncle easily dodges it.
"Why…why is it that whenever you show up…I lose someone of my family?" she snarls, the tears now streaming down, "First I lose my father and now that you showed up I lose my baby sister? And you did nothing but stayed back, watching this all happen," Kai felt fire burning in her, with each step she took, the grass underneath burned. Salem hisses at the Gallade that walked over, flames flickering on his fangs, "For a Master of Spinjitzu you did nothing!" she grabs the sword, gripping it tightly that her knuckles turn white, "I'm going to get Nya back,"
"Where they go, a mortal can not," Uncle Wu gently stated, making Kai roll her eyes. "That was Samukai, King of the Distorian Realm,"
"That is a lie," Kai turns her gaze to him, "The King is Giratina, Samukai is just the King of the skulkin. And while normally it would be highly possible there are some ways to get there,"
Uncle Wu chuckles, "It seems that you have been studying…but I fear things are far worse than I thought," he grips his bamboo staff in his hands, looking down with guilt in his golden eyes, "he mention Lord Garmadon,"
Kai freezes at this, swallowing, "You…you mean my father?" she whispers, a frown forming on her face, "The one you killed?"
"I did not kill him," Uncle Wu gently reassured her, "During our fight those fifteen years ago, the protection spells on my kimono open a portal to the Distortion Realm and he has been stuck there. But now it seems that he has struck a deal with the Skulkin, and now Samukai is carrying out his orders,"
Kai stares, "What in the name of Arceus is going on? What is so important that they come here to this small village and kidnap my sister?"
"What's so important?" Uncle Wu questions before he chuckles, "How about everything in Ninjago itself…" he stares at her, "You remember the stories that your father and I told you all those years ago. That long before time had a name, Ninjago was created by the First Spinjitzu Master, your grandfather,"
Kai frowns but nodded her head, "Yes…he did it after he escaped from the Realm of Oni and Dragons when each side kept arguing over him,"
Uncle Wu nods his head, "And he did so by using the four weapons of Spinjitsu. The Scythe of Quakes, the Nunchucks of Lightning, the Shurikens of Ice and the Sword of Fire. Weapons so powerful, no one can handle all of their power at once. When he passed away," and at this, Uncle Wu's eyes shimmer with grief, "his two sons swore to protect. But the oldest…your father was consume by darkness," at this Kai glares, "and wanted to possessed them,"
"That's why you two were fighting that night," Kai whispered, the memory of that night flashing in her mind.
"Your father was struck down and banished into the Distortion Realm. Peace returned and I knew that one day, your father would return with his ambition for power. I had each of them guarded by a guardian, and in fear of my own demise, I gave the map to a honest man to hide," Uncle Wu watches as Kai sat down on the rock, looking at her with seriousness, "That honest man was your Uncle, and now I need to find those weapons before Garmadon does,"
"You came looking for the map," Kai coldly stated, but she blinked when Wu shook his head.
"No…I came looking for you," he pointed the staff at her, almost hitting Kai in the face, "Ray told me before he and Maya disappeared that he passed down his flames to you," he eyes the burn spots in the grass, "and the Spirit Smoke…it has been warning me that things were coming, dangerous and deadly things to come…but as you can see I am no longer spirited as I once was I have decided that I need someone to replace me…and in good time too. If your father is able to collect all four weapons, even I will not be able to stop him,"
Kai slips off the rock she had been sitting on, "But you, you have the fire inside. I will train you to harness it, use it. Become a Spinjitsu," and with this he taps the end of the staff onto Kai's shoulder, "Master,"
Kai frowns, "Look…I'm flatter you think this highly of me Uncle Wu…but I have to get Nya…and no matter what you say about my father, he loves me. If I ask, he will gladly let Nya go. And I think he will rather me not get involve in your two sibling rivalry,"
"And what if you're wrong," Uncle Wu gently objected, "It has been fifteen years, you were just fives years old…I love my brother, just as you do, but I rather you not chance it," Kai looks over her shoulder, "My advice is Kailyn, if you want your sister back you must control the fire inside. Only when you are a Spinjitzu Master, will you be able to face Lord Garmadon…safely,"
Kai frowns, before she huffs, eyeing him with a disgruntled look, "Ugh! Fine!" she throws her hands in the air, "But only so I can whoop these Skulkins' butt and because you promise me when I was four that you would teach me Spinjitzu," Uncle Wu chuckles, but then grimaces when Kai kicks his shin, "and don't think this means you are forgiven!" with a hiss, she scoops ip Salem into her arms, "Just stay out here so I can pack my stuff quickly," she ordered, straining to keep the sobs out of her voice. She didn't look back at him as she stomped into the shop, once more tears burning in her eyes, spilling down her face. She just wanted to curl onto her bed and cry…but she couldn't…she had to be brave…she had to keep her head up high.
Nya needs her to be strong.
