It was a nice evening in the Baldur city. As the sun was setting down, the number of people who were out dwindled down as well.

Seruvia was one such individual. As a bard from the school of Lore, she loved to collect the information around the city and analyse the data for the ruling nobles of the city. She was quite good in this field. And her contractor knew this as well. It was a job that she enjoyed a lot. Though it often turned out boring, she still held this job in high regards.

Like everyday, she was going back to her home. Nothing seemed out of ordinary, except the frantic screams of citizens out of nowhere.

Wait, screams?

She turned her head to look at the source of this commotion. Her eyes went wide as she watched something truly horrifying.

A nautiloid, infamous for being the vehicle of mindflayers, floared above the city with its large tentacles grabbing... or planeshifting the common folk at a rapid pace. And she would be fool to not know what lied of her, she was about to run away until...

One its large tentacle exploded. For a moment, she did not notice it, as her mind was preoccupied with the emotion of flight. But the sudden explosions over the whole ship and the tentacles, glued her feet.

The ship was constantly blasted by elemental spells by an archmage, not far away from him.

Fire, lightning, ice, dark and various types of spells were launched at the ship. Some of these spells were too foreign for her to recognise their effects, but their impact on the ship told her that they were strong enough to damage the ship.

Even the nautiloid's master was trying hard to capture this archmage as the tentacles were aiming to catch him. The whole show of teleportation and grappling was awe-inspiring to her. She did not know any archmage to perform teleportation magic so many times, yet having the time to attack the enemy with powerful spells.

Just who was this archmage?

Seruvia could not remember. Her senses were occupied with the battle for so long, that she did not even perceive a small blonde girl use firearms with perfect accuracy. Only the shout from this little girl broke her stupor.

"Hey Ainz! Subaru and Kazuma have managed to find the kidnapped locals. Make a portal for them!"

Seruvia watched the blonde speaker, whose cute blue eyes and small height made her pretty cute. Similar to that of noble's child. Though her dressing sense seemed pretty bad. Despite her cute features, what caused Seruvia to surprise her was the exotic firearm in one hand. And she held the weapon like a professional Gunslinger!

"Just what is going on here?" That was the only thing she could utter at the spectacle unfolding in front of her.

She took out her notes and wrote everything she was watching.

From a masked archmage who could use teleportation magic like it was a cantrip, and a little girl who could shoot with a weapon bigger than her frame. For a moment, Seruvia doubted that these two were humans. Either they were the apostles of the deities, or the heroes of unknown origin. She could not ignore such an important part of her life. Her mind would not forget these two so easily.

Her mind also recalled the names of two more people, that the little girl spoke to her archmage friend.

"Subaru and Kazuma... so there are total 4 people in this group. The mage is a frontliner, the girl works at range, then what does this makes the remaining two? The Guildmaster may know something about this..."

Despite her guts saying otherwise, she hoped that the gods sent these four to save them. Atleast, she hoped so.

Ainz watched his 6th tier spells destroyed the roof of the frontal portion of the ship so easily. The occupant of this location was clearly glaring at him with pure hate and murderous intent.

But this did not shock him at all. What shocked Ainz so much was the face of the occupant, who was mostly like driving this alien ship. It was none other than a Braineater!

"Hoh?! Am I back in YGGDRASIL or something?" Ainz whispered to himself at the sudden sight of a familiar race. A wave of nostalgia filled through him.

In the YGGDRASIL lore, they were abominations of eldritch magic. Specialised in psychic arts and neuromancy with unmatched skills, they were dangerous enemies of high intelligence scores and a special ability to gauge others' IQ with a glance. They were mostly invaders, ancient beings of lost civilizations and generally, evil aligned.

A part of Ainz wanted to stop this battle, but another part of him knew about the future consequences of his actions. Had he stopped the battle right away, the civilians down there would go suspicious of him. They would believe him to be in cahoots with the braineater. Thus, he must capture this guy or persuade him into a conversation by other means.

Instead of 6th tier, he chose 3rd tier spells to destroy the ship. That way, the braineater would survive his spells and might even surrender to him. They were not courageous creatures who lived with dignity. If the worst came, they would surrender themselves to him for the sake of survival.

To make sure the ship would not teleport away, he'd casted the [Dimensional Lock] spell around this ship.

Tanya was shooting down the tentacles with great precision, as they were becoming annoying to dodge everytime.

But then, an unexpected scenario happened.

The braineater started to crash down the whole ship at the city below. It surprised Ainz that a race like Braineater chose suicide over being captured by him. They never had this type of dignity to let themselves be killed instead of being captured.

Another unexpected scenario that he had not seen due to his nostalgia.

"Hmm, wait! Tanya!!" His musings halted as he glanced that the ship was going to crash over Tanya.

"[Greater Teleportation]!" He casted the 7th tier spell in one tenth of a second, before he arrived at her side.

He was not letting one of his friend going martyr in another world.

This was not what they planned at all.

The mindflayer watched the archmage in dark robes with nothing, but pure hate. His plan was going smoothly until this unknown factor appeared out of nowhere.

With another spell, the entire nautiloid shooked like an earthquake had erupted. At first, he considered the possibility of the ship being completely destroyed by this mage. However, as he found perceived the enemy and the patterns, the mindflayer understood what this archmage was trying to accomplish here.

The attacks were generally launched around the frontal portation of nautiloid. Or well, the attacks were only targeting the frontal portion of the nautiloid.

The thralls he collected so far were stored at the back of the ship, where no attacks had been placed by this enemy. In other words, the enemy was either aware of the prisoners' location, or the enemy had infiltrated the ship.

The mindflayer was looking through many scenarios where a mortal mind could never hope to reach. Faster than a normal brain, the data he'd accumulated had been analysed thoroughly. Several scenarios sprang and out of these, most were rejected when this unknown factor was applied.

The mindflayer's eyes widened at the sudden revelation of his ship being invaded by two barbarians.

"How dare they! To think I was fooled by this distraction, I should have ran away from here when the time was right." There was panic in his words, but the mindflayer was already on how to manage the unknown he met here.

He failed in his attempt to teleport away his nautiloid into another plane. It did not take him long to understand what was blocking him.

"Dimensional Lock perhaps? But how?! How did this Sorcerer get this spell? It should be impossible, unless... unless..."

A shocking revelation emerged in his brain, as the mindflayer, who should not be awed by such an ambush, felt genuine respect for the well-prepared trap he got himself into.

The person who was fighting against him was most likely an epic wizard with enough spells to spare.

At first, the mindflayer considered the possibility of this archmage to be a Sorcerer due to the seemingly multiple shots of the same spell. But then again, his ship did not teleport due to some blockade which meant that this Sorcerer had used Dimensional Lock. Something that should be nigh-impossible for a Sorcerer to obtain by ordinary means.

Even if his assumptions turned out to be wrong, the mindflayer was adept in calculating the first layer of this possible epic mage in the matter of seconds.

"I have been played under the palm of this mage for so long. But now, everything is clear." The mindflayer's ship started to fall down like a kingfisher diving into the water to catch its prey.

The speed at which the ship was crashing down would surely kill him, but at the same time, he would be able to teleport the ship out of this plane. There must be a range of this Dimensional Lock, which could be reached if he rushed the ship.

But then again, the epic mage would stop playing with him and kill him immediately for spoiling the fun. There was no way that this epic magic caster would have foreseen his rash decision.

"I will surely die, but atleast, my scarifice will ensure the survival of the Grand Design ..."

Those were his last words before the ship had managed to bypass the range of Dimensional Lock, but at the same time, crashed into few homes before teleporting into another plane.

You may find some mistakes, but that's because I wrote this whole story in my android. I dont have a computer.
