Katara

Many things passed through Katara's head as she fled the ship and made her way to her grandmother's home only to find her and a group of older women talking with Iroh about tea while he slowly cooked a fish with one hand.

Katara wanted to yell at all the people there to leave but the look of happiness on grangran's face as she bit into the fish made Katara reconsider and soon the scene was interrupted by the sound of the children that had followed the smell of cooked fish.

After standing in the door for what felt like an eternity Katara finally entered the room and sat down in the warmness of the room that she was sure came from the firebender, as she looked around Katara's anger abated enough to allow her to think clearly.

There was a fire burning in Katara's heart, for the first time in her life she wanted to change who she was only so she could burn the world just like it had burned her, Katara had felt hate for so long against the Fire Nation, she still did, but it was difficult to hate when the people you hate are so nice.

The prince's uncle was a kind man that didn't hesitate to play with the kids or help the women cook with some of his bending it showed her that the world wasn't as she thought it was, fire had always been a destructive force that ruined lives but Iroh showed her how it could nurture a home and feed her people.

It was unfair that a nice man like Iroh was a royal from the nation that had hurt her tribe and that no matter how much she tried to hate him or how nasty she looked at him Iroh would simply respond with a sad smile and guilty eyes. That's not how a monster should look, that's not how a man that leads people as brutal as the soldiers who took her mom should be.

Katara had also learned the reason why her mother and every other waterbender that had been taken died, a member of her tribe had done something so unimaginable that even the firebenders felt scared. Katara could have never imagined that someone out there could bend blood and just thinking about it made her want to try, if she had that kind of power then no one, not even the Fire Lord would be able to take her family again.

If she had that power Katara could walk into the Fire Nation until she reached the Fire Lord and force him to end the war, if the Avatar was an older man she might have trusted him to end the war and while she would like to believe that Aang would try his best, that he would do his best, that didn't change the fact that he was still a kid.

Katara had dreamed of finding the man that killed her mother, she had dreamed of it so vividly that it was almost like a vision. Katara wanted revenge and the only thing holding her back was that to get her revenge she would have to follow the heir to the throne of the Fire Nation.

"Katara!" Sokka crashed into her with a hug, she returned the gesture but her brother noticed that she wasn't acting like usual "Did they do something to you?! I wasn't trying before but I will show them how a true warrior-"

"Sokka" Katara grabbed his hand to interrupt him from his rant "the prince offered me a chance to look for our mother's killer"

"Katara it's obviously a trap, you're not seriously considering-"

"Why would they need a trap to capture me Sokka, there are only women and children here and the prince hardly needed help to bury you in the snow" Katara's voice sounded as empty to her ears as they did to Sokka's, her brother met her eyes and stared into them as he reached for her hands.

"You're not asking my opinion…you're going, aren't you?"

Sokka let the question hang in the air but even if Katara didn't say it out loud they both knew what she would answer. Katara was the first one to look away as she stared at her feet for fear of what she would see in her brother's eyes.

"I'm going with you" Katara looked up to see the determined face of Sokka "I won't argue with you about it, I know it would be useless but I wouldn't be a good brother if I didn't accompany you"

Aang

Aang's head felt like it had been run over by a Saber-tooth moose lion and if he wasn't so busy trying to understand what had happened to the world he would definitely have gone to sleep.

"Here" Zuko passed him a cup of tea that smelled quite good "It's not as good as my uncle's but it will help with your headache"

"Thanks"

An awkward silence followed after that but it was broken by a sigh from the prince that was soon echoed by Aang.

"I can't believe that the world has changed so much" Aang just couldn't understand, the monks had taught him that everything had a place in the balance of the world and that the Avatar helped the balance but didn't maintain it but it looked that without the Avatar the world had no balance.

"I believe that all things change in time, some for the better and some not. I want to change things for the better and top this senseless war" there was a hidden strength in the words of Zuko that Aang was sure had nothing to do with justice but that didn't mean the prince was lying.

"And you think that with my help you can stop the war"

"It would certainly be a step in the right direction, but I'm worried about what will happen to the citizens of the Fire Nation that made a home for themselves in the places we conquered once we win"

"They will have to return home obviously" The monks had told him how the world should look like and it was clear that those who conquered were in the wrong.

"I'm not talking about the soldiers Avatar, I mean to ask if you will force the innocent people of the Fire Nation to abandon their homes and what has been their home for almost a hundred years"

"Of course, that land doesn't belong to them!" Aang thought that Zuko would protest but the prince simply nodded at Aang's words. Zuko stood up and looked over at the horizon and its rising moon.

"Enjoy your stay on the ship Aang and feel free to look around without worry"

Aang had wanted to ask more questions but he didn't think that Zuko would appreciate that right now, he knew that while it could be considered cruel to relocate people the fact that they were living in stolen land remained true and that those who had the land taken from them deserved to have it back.

Aang's cowardice had made the world a terrible place and his fellow airbenders had paid the price with their lives for his mistake, Aang would be a great Avatar and uphold the balance of the world even if it was difficult because that was the only thing he could do to honor the memory of his fellow airbenders.

Things were more serious than he thought and if things had been different then Aang might have tried to take things slow but it looked like the world wouldn't give him that option, not that it ever did. Aang felt just like he did when he first found out he was the Avatar but now he was alone. Gyatso always said that he shouldn't concentrate on what was but act on what it is, the world was broken and it is up to Aang to fix it.

Azula

"You've been so much nicer lately Azula!" Ty Lee said as she bent her spine in a way that no normal person should as she took a very suggestive pose, at least it was suggestive in Azula's mind.

"I think it's the lack of stress," Mai said with a smirk as she reclined herself in her seat, her knife-wielding friend was going to leave for the colonies in the morning and she didn't look very happy "but that's what happens when you don't have anything to do and can relax all day"

That was a lie as Azula kept practicing her bending at least four hours a day every day but it was true that Ozai had started giving her less work as he increasingly grew more frustrated with the rumors about Zuko and his inability to squash them out.

"Things will get boring if there is nothing to do, I'm almost tempted to run to a circus as you did Ty Lee" the wry tone in her voice is ignored by her excitable friend who immediately starts jumping around.

Azula's eyes are drawn to Ty Lee's breasts and a very wicked idea comes to her head, she does need practice in the bedroom.
