Coffee cup forgotten about, Charlie stares at Alastor stupefied. He twiddled his thumbs casually as if he hadn't just told the most graphic story of him murdering three men.

"You saved her." Charlie stated. Alastor shrugged as he slid his own coffee cup to the side.

"I suppose so. They had it coming so I was happy to oblige."

"There wasn't a part of you that...hesitated? Or felt guilty?" Charlie questioned. Alastor paused in thought, then looked into Charlie's eyes intensely.

"What would you do if someone attacked Vaggie?" Charlie felt her eyebrows shoot to Heaven. That was certainly a question from left field.

"I uh. Well I-"

"Or Nifty? Or Angel Dust? Or mys-" Alastor stopped. He would like to think that Charlie would fight for his safety if it came down to it, but he refused to let his hopes rise. Charlie noticed his mind racing but before she could say anything, he continued.

"My point is, you would fight. You would fight for them, as any sane person would naturally. It is said that everyone has 'fight or flight' weaved through their psyche. I'm afraid that 'flight' left mine at a very young age. I saw a woman that was being assaulted so I took care of the threat. Simple as that." Alastor watched as Charlie tried to understand. He knew that for a lot of people it really wasn't as simple as that. There were people who were afraid of violence and he had to admit that as a child he was apprehensive against it. Now, violence came as natural to him as breathing.

"I mean yeah of course but-"

"Why must there be a 'but'? Apprehensiveness could cost a loved one their life. I lived in a world that gentle and kind didn't defeat evil." Alastor knew that his stand on this was a little bleak and he didn't quite understand why he was fighting his point so hard with Charlie.

"I...I guess. But gentle and kind can't be forgotten completely."

"Perhaps you can't forget them but I certainly can." Alastor let it slip out more coldly than he meant to. Charlie looked taken aback from his blunt honesty. Did Alastor really believe that violence answered all problems? Charlie always thought of herself as a kind person, despite her family tree. Did Alastor admire that about her or did he see that as a weakness? At one point she thought that he had grown to like that about her, but she sensed that she was wrong.

"I can see that." Charlie mumbled as she stared at her hands on the table, not able to meet Alastor's eyes. He noticed her fallen face and realized that he had fucked up. This was supposed to be a relaxing day and it seemed that he had ruined it.

"Charlie I apologize if my blunt honesty has upset you. It's just how I see things."

"Is that how you see me?" Charlie blurt out, now looking at him with a scowl. Hurt laced in her eyes and now it was Alastor's turn to be speechless.

"I'm sorry?" Charlie stood up, hands splayed on the table.

"I like to see myself as a very gentle and kind person. Do you see me as something that could be forgotten easily? A hinderance perhaps?" Charlie felt a pit in her stomach. Alastor's insinuation stabbed her ferociously and she felt like she couldn't take in a full breath. Alastor shook his head.

"Charlie, I could never forget you. I'm actually quite insulted that you would insinuate that." Alastor couldn't believe where this discussion had turned. Surely Charlie didn't actually believe that she was forgettable? She hung her head.

"How could I not? I forgot I was speaking with the Radio demon. My mistake." Charlie turned away from Alastor and his stunned face.

"I'm going home. Stay or come with, I don't care." Charlie didn't wait on a response. She started to quickly hoof it back to the hotel, not checking to see if Alastor was following or not.

Alastor sat frozen whilst trying to absorb what just unfolded before him. Was Charlie actually upset with him? She knew how he viewed violence, hell she knew who he was! He had never hid that about him yet for some reason it now was twisting a nerve of hers. The parallel she drew to think that he could forget about her confused Alastor more than any of it though. After everything he had done for the hotel, for her, surely she didn't believe that?

Alastor stood up and brushed himself off before he trailed behind Charlie at a good distance. He felt like she needed some space right now and at the current mental state he was in, he was more than happy to grant her that.

Once they both made it back to the hotel, Charlie stormed to the kitchen to grab a bite to eat. She was hoping to eat with Alastor while they were out but that went up in flames. As she pulled some sandwich meat out of the fridge she saw Alastor standing in the doorway. For the first time in quite a while, his presence annoyed her to the extreme.

"What do you want, Alastor?" Charlie's tone indicated that she truly didn't care about what he wanted. Alastor slightly flinched from her hostility but kept composed for the most part.

"I would like an explanation as to why you are upset with me. It's rare that I make someone angry without me knowing the cause." He walked over to the table where Charlie sat to make her sandwich.

"Alastor, the fact that you don't know why I'm upset makes it even worse." She couldn't believe that he could be this dense. He seriously didn't understand why she was hurt? Perhaps he just didn't care enough to connect the dots. Either way, she was desperately wanting him to leave her be.

"It's because of my view on violence?" Alastor questioned, annoyance ringing in his voice. Charlie slammed down her plate which cracked loudly.

"It's because of your view of me!" Charlie tried to reel in her rage but failed. Alastor leaned back slightly, startled by her abrupt volume.

"What does my view of you have to do with anything?" Charlie laughed humorlessly, feeling her patience wear thin. Fuck, it was like arguing with a wall.

"You said that you think being gentle and kind are stupid things to have-"

"I most certainly did not! If you are going to make a point then I'll ask you to not force words in my mouth while doing so." Alastor felt his holy wound pulse to which he ignored it. He could see a vein protrude from Charlie's forehead.

"Then what the fuck did you say then? What did you mean?"

"What I said is what I meant. Gentle and kind does not defeat evil. Evil is the only thing powerful enough to defeat evil. It's the way things are, whether you like it or not Princess." Alastor snarled his lip, frustrated that he was having to repeat himself yet again.

"So that means I can't defeat evil then?" Charlie crossed her arms defensively.

"I didn't hear about you defeating any angels in that war so I suppose so." Alastor gasped dramatically. "Oh! I guess you did have Daddy dearest to help you so tell me, does that count? Does it count that Adam nearly killed you until Lucifer had to come rescue you?"

"Adam did kick your ass too and you've got the wound to prove it! You're evil and couldn't defeat him so what now?" Charlie was breathing heavy now, staring down Alastor waiting on him to back down. She knew that he wouldn't give up so easily. Alastor felt his eye twitching as he tried to calm himself. No one could ruffle his feathers like Charlie and he loathed it.

"If I couldn't take down Adam then you didn't have a snowballs chance in Hell. You're not as strong as you could be because you're always too afraid. Fear is your hinderance, not your kindness. Which is hilarious considering you're the Princess of Hell." Alastor sighed, sounding like he was disappointed in Charlie. She started to see red and felt her nails dig into her arms.

"If we're both destined to lose then I'd rather be kind than a heartless bastard like you." Charlie spat out venomously. Alastor's breathing stopped suddenly as he stood there like a statue. Charlie immediately had a wave of guilt crash over her.

"Alastor, I-I didn't mean-"

"You most certainly did mean it, Princess. Quite alright though. I see that my presence is becoming unwelcomed so I'll take my leave." Alastor turned on his heel and made his way out of the kitchen, leaving Charlie standing there with tears streaming down her face.

Alastor began to walk towards the hallway until he took a glance at the front door. Everywhere in this building reminded him of her and he didn't think he could handle it right now. He wasn't sure why Charlie's words hurt him so much but regardless, he needed to escape it. He needed to shut it all off. He back stepped and went out the front door without a second thought.
