Katara
Katara was no stranger to the darkness in her heart, it had thrived for a long time in the moments where she found herself alone, in those times when her mind wandered about what her life could have been like had her mother lived, but it was something else to come face to face with the monster that lived inside of her, with that wave of anger that threatened to drown the world. The beast that she had long wanted to destroy was nameless for a long time until the day came when she finally received the answer.
Yon Rha
The squalid, pathetic worm that was in front of her was nothing like what she remembered and it only made her angrier, to think that such a pathetic excuse for a man, this wretched thing that could be barely called a warrior, had killed Katara's mother. She had deserved so much more; her mother should have been alive to see Katara grow into a woman and to see Sokka as a warrior, that wonderful woman named Kya should have lived to see her daughter have children of her own…
A wave of cold spread out from Katara and the moisture on the trees and the grass around her had never been more clear to her senses, Katara felt every single drop of water around her and in a move that she didn't know she could make, gathered everything into a thousand blades that threatened to pincushion the thing in front of her.
"Please! I don't know what I did but I can fix it!" Yon Rha exclaimed as he held his bruising cheek but the words made Katara see red, he dared to say that could fix things, Katara would give him something to fix. In a swift movement reminiscent of the one she had seen Aang make with the air, Katara moved her arms in a circular motion and a blade of water silently followed her will and separated one of Yon Rha's legs from the other.
"Fix that!" Katara sneered and waited until yon Rha realized what she had just done.
"AGGGHH! M-My LEG! AAAAHHHHGGG MY LEG!" the worm held the stump as it bled profusely, desperately trying to save his life as he saw death knocking at the door but Katara wouldn't let him leave this life until he had experienced all the pain that Katara had bottled up in her heart.
"Zuko" Katara called out to her prince and just as if he could read her mind he acted swiftly, holding aflame-covered hand in the air he approached the flailing worm then he pushed the weak hands away and pressed the flame to the opening.
"NOOO! It HURTS! MERCY PLEASE! MERCY!" Yon Rha's requests went unheard as Zuko finished closing the wound on his left leg that was now missing everything below the knee, the worm had the audacity to try and fall unconscious but Katara soon had him back on the waking world with a liberal application of ice to his face.
"You didn't think it was going to end that easily did you? You have a lot to pay for!" Katara spat out as the man looked at her in the eyes and just to get even more satisfaction Katara removed her helmet to let the worm see who it was that killed and why he was suffering.
"Y-You're! the child, the child of the waterbender!" Yon Rha muttered almost catatonic as he watched her face, his eyes were unfocused almost as if he was remembering something else.
"Yes," Katara said solemnly "she was my mother and I'm here to avenge her, she will rest in peace once you're dead but first I'm going to make you suffer as I have suffered ever since you took her from me all those years ago!"
A whip made of water formed in her hand, it had ice spikes on the tip that hooked just at the edge and Katara knew exactly how to use it. With her other hand, a tentacle of water formed and turned Yon Rha so she could see his back and it was then that Katara started.
The first strike of her whip landed directly on the center of his back, the sound of tearing flesh was a balm to her soul and the screams of the villain that had destroyed her family warmed the coldness she felt in her heart, in a swift motion Katara pulled it back and little chunks of flesh came along with it as rivulets of blood moved down Yon Rha's back onto the floor.
Katara heard a sob, small and weak like that of a dying animal, and grew angry.
"You! You dare to cry! After killing so many people! After tearing families apart! You don't deserve to cry, you don't deserve anything else other than pain and misery!" she hit him again, once, twice, Katara swung the whip until her arms tired leaving the back of the men a mess of minced meat and blood and yet Katara wasn't satisfied.
"Did you enjoy killing her?! Was it worth it, huh, was it worth it?!" Katara kept screaming out her questions as she kept up the punishment until she heard something that turned the coldness in her heart to a raging fire that she would never douse again.
Yon Rha was laughing.
Laughing at her.
"It was worth it! I once had real power and you want to know something girl, we didn't just kill her, we made her suffer, we had your mother on her knees sucking our cocks just for the faint possibility that she could one day see you again and once we grew bored of her we turned your mother into charcoal!"
"RHAAAA" Katara screamed in rage while hitting the man over and over again until she turned his head into a barely recognizable mess on the floor but as she did it Yon Rha laughed, the man laughed as he died and once he finally stopped laughing she felt a weight drop off her shoulders.
Katara fell to her knees in front of the man that had done such horrible things to her mother and cried "I'm sorry I couldn't save you! I'm so sorry but now you can finally rest in peace, one day I will see you again, not even the spirits themselves will stop me from seeing you again!" Katara declared her words with conviction, and if the world wouldn't listen to her then she would make it obey.
"Let's get out of here Katara" The warm arms of Zuko circling around her have her the strength she needed to stand, Katara remembered that now she had to see that Zuko got his own revenge and whatever may come they would face it together.
Zuko
Wow! Was all I could think after getting Katara as far away as I could from the body, it was the most brutal, most raw scene I had ever witnessed. Honestly, I was counting on the guy just cowering like in canon but it seemed like the pain returned some of the fighting spirit he once had to him. At least Katara got her pound of flesh from him, now everything should turn out ok.
Having to do another trip so soon was not to my taste, I liked the ocean but there was a limit to it and we could waste a few hours so we decided to explore a little.
I and Katara walked around the village in silence, we probably looked like a funny pair given that she had her head on my shoulder while still wearing the helmet but apart from getting out a few laughs from some veterans nothing too strenuous was happening until I heard something that chilled the blood in my veins.
"The Fire Lord burnt Omashu to the ground! They say the place is nothing but cinders and ash now!" One soldier that came running from the docks shouted out to his friends and anyone nearby, a murmur rose among the veterans as they got closer to the guy "Princess Azula was also there and they're saying she stood face to face against Bumi! They say the Fire Lord killed so many soldiers that there was a mountain of them!"
Many of the people there cheered, some shouting praises to Ozai while others shouted curses at the soldiers of the earth kingdom, this was definitely not good, not good at fucking all!
"I can't believe the Fire Lord actually did something" Katara murmured but not quietly enough and soon we had more than ten pairs of eyes on us, I was sure that I would have to start killing them but then one by one they all started laughing.
"HAHAHAHA, You have guts girl! No wonder you're in the army"
"Careful with that one pal, might be too hard to handle" one said to me before he started to laugh.
"You can say that again girl! That man enters at the last moment, should have been there since the beginning! HAHHAHAHHA!"
I let out a sigh of relief as the rest of the veterans started cracking jokes but that could have gone way worse, perhaps it wasn't such a bad idea to go back to the ship.
Author note: perhaps I went overboard as I tried to give the scene some impact but I think I like it more this way. also sorry for the wait my job is still killing me
