Chapter 85

Hanna left the baby with Granny, then poofed herself and Henry to the woods. She started to feel a little guilty. Not about leaving to look for the hooded figure, but about how worried her dad was going to be when he went back to the loft and found it empty. Hanna knew if she texted him to let him know where they were, he would stop his search for the hooded figure and start searching for her and Henry instead. Hanna decided she needed to at least leave him a note. He wouldn't find it for awhile, which would give them time to look for Emma. Maybe they would make it back to the loft before he did and the note wouldn't be necessary, but she wanted to leave one just in case. She stopped and closed her eyes. She was pretty sure she could do it from here.

"What are you doing?" Henry asked.

"Shhh." Hanna held up her hand to him. She envisioned the notepad in the loft and made a message appear that let her dad know she and Henry were looking for the hooded figure and Neal was safe with Granny. Hanna knew she would be in trouble either way, but maybe the note would make her dad less angry. Hanna opened her eyes. "I left a note for my dad so he would know where we are."

"How?"

"My magic."

"How do you know it worked?"

Hanna shrugged. "Let's just hope it did, okay?"

"Alright."

"Give me your phone."

"Why?"

Hanna pulled her phone from her pocket. "We need to poof them back to the loft so my dad can't track us."

Henry gave Hanna his phone and she waved her hand, sending them back. She was pretty sure they would be waiting for them on the kitchen counter when they got home.

Hanna and Henry trudged through the woods for the rest of the day. They found a set of footprints at one point and followed them for awhile, but the prints disappeared and the trail went cold. They had no idea what to look for, but continued on anyway, hoping something would stand out to them.

"Hanna, I think we need to go back. It's getting dark."

Hanna looked up at the sky. She knew he was right. Pretty soon they wouldn't be able to see anything. "Okay, but let's walk. I want to cut through town on our way back. Maybe we'll see something."

"Okay." Henry headed towards town and Hanna followed.

They made it to the center of town and spotted a group of people in the middle of the road. Hanna saw Belle and Rumple first, then Regina and…Robin? How was that even possible? She wanted to turn around as soon as she saw her dad and Killian, but then she saw her sister. "Emma!" Hanna ran towards her, but as she got closer, she noticed the hooded figure was there too. Then she felt herself being frozen in place. She tried to get to her, but she couldn't move. She saw Emma's hand starting to shake. The hooded figure held a sword towards Emma. They were talking to each other, but Hanna couldn't hear what they were saying. All of a sudden, Emma's hand began to glow, and she blasted magic towards the figure, sending him flying backwards. The sword fell to the ground and Emma walked towards him. The sword was broken. Emma picked up a piece and held it to his neck.

"Please. He's my son," Rumple said.

Hanna wasn't sure she heard him correctly. Wasn't his son just born?

"I don't need your help!" the figure told Rumple just before disappearing.

Hanna could move again. She ran to her sister and wrapped her arms around her. "You did it!"

Emma looked down and gave her a smile.

Everyone else greeted Emma, thankful she was back and she was alive. She filled them in on everything that happened. She was sent to a realm that was created by a wish. There were other versions of everyone in that realm, including Robin Hood, who Regina brought back to Storybrooke with her. Belle and Rumple explained that the hooded figure was their son, Gideon. He was taken from the Blue Fairy and raised in another realm where time worked differently. They weren't sure why, but he was sent here with one mission…to kill the savior.

David turned to Hanna once everyone left.

"Hi, Dad."

"Let's get home."

"But…"

"Now." David put his hand on her back and led her towards the truck.

"Don't we need to pick up Neal?"

David opened the passenger door for her. "Granny's at home with him."

"Oh. I'm hungry can't we…"

"There's food at home." David nodded towards the truck. "Get in."

Hanna sighed, but did what her dad said. She really didn't want to go home with him right now. She could tell he was mad, and she was hoping they could go pick up Neal or get dinner to give him some time to cool off. She was hoping Neal was awake and would need his attention when they got back.

"He's asleep for the night," Granny told them once they returned. She said her goodbyes and that left Hanna alone with her dad.

Hanna glanced up at him. He looked just as upset as he was before they came home. Hanna sighed. "Dad, I had to go."

"No. You needed to stay here."

"I couldn't just stay here again while everyone else was looking."

"Yes you could have."

"But I wanted to look too."

"I know you did, but I told you to stay here and watch after your brother."

"You can't keep using Neal as an excuse to leave me behind!"

"Hanna." David took her by the arm and pulled her towards the living room. "Keep your voice down. You're going to wake him."

Hanna rolled her eyes. "Okay." She pulled her arm out of his grasp and sat on the couch.

David sat next to her. "You can't keep pulling stunts like this. You are just recovering from your incident with the queen. What if you had gotten hurt?"

"All I did was walk through the woods with Henry."

"And what were you going to do if you found the person you were out there looking for? Did you even have a plan?"

"I don't know…we would have figured it out."

David shook his head. "Hanna…"

"I told you in my note that if things got out of control I would poof us back here."

"I know, but that's besides the point. I told you to stay here and you deliberately disobeyed me."

Hanna was glad to hear her magic note actually worked. She looked towards the counter and saw her and Henry's phones were there too. She waved her hand and sent Henry's phone back to him.

"Hanna…"

"What?"

"This has to stop."

"What? Me trying to protect my sister?"

"You putting yourself in harms way."

"I am fine!"

"Keep your voice down."

Hanna sighed. "I won't just sit back and do nothing when Emma's life is at risk."

"You will if your mother and I tell you to."

"Dad, I can't. I have magic. I can protect myself."

"Like you protected yourself against the queen?"

Hanna opened her mouth to say something, but quickly closed it again. She didn't have an argument for that one.

"You are just starting to learn how to use your magic. You can't go off on your own against people like Gideon or the queen and not expect to get hurt. You're just a kid."

"I am not!"

Cries came from the bassinet.

David closed his eyes and shook his head. "Damn it."

"Dad, I…"

"We're not talking about this anymore. You're grounded." David got up from the couch and went to get the baby. "Go upstairs."

"Fine." Hanna went upstairs and got herself ready for bed.

When she came back down, she saw Neal was asleep again. Her dad was in the kitchen doing something. Hanna walked past him and sat on the couch. She pulled her knees to her chest and waited, knowing the lecture would continue.

A few minutes later, her dad walked over and held out a plate to her. "I made you a sandwich."

She took the plate from her dad. "Thanks." Hanna stared at her dinner. She didn't feel like eating. She looked up at her dad. "Are you really going to ground me?"

"Yes."

"Dad…"

"Hanna, I'm not sure what else to do. You continue to put yourself in danger."

"I won't do it anymore. I promise."

David shook his head. "Well, I'm sorry, but I just don't believe you."

"But…"

David put up his hand. "We're not talking about this anymore. I'm going to wake your mom. Make sure she reads my note." David kissed her on the top of the head. "And please eat."

Her dad walked into the bedroom, and Hanna quickly went to the counter to read the note. He started off apologizing for keeping her asleep for so long, then explained everything that happened with Emma. The next paragraph told her mom everything about her going out to search for the hooded figure after being told to stay home and that he grounded her. She wasn't allowed to watch any tv or go anywhere besides home or school. Hanna quickly waved her hand over that part of the note. She was not about to be grounded for trying to help Emma.

Snow walked into the kitchen. "Hey, sweetie."

"Hi, Mom." Hanna wrapped her arms around her. "I missed you."

Snow held Hanna close. "I missed you too, honey." Snow could sense something was off. She looked out the window and could tell it was night time. "Why am I awake right now?"

Hanna stepped back and looked up at her. "You've been asleep longer than usual."

"What happened?"

"A lot." Hanna held out her dad's note. "Read this."

Hanna sat down on the stool and ate her sandwich while her mom was caught up on everything she slept through.

Snow put her arm around Hanna. "Are you okay? I'm sure you were worried about Emma."

"I'm okay. I'm just glad she's back. "

"Sounds like a lot happened while I was sleeping. Robin Hood, Gideon…"

"He tried to kill Emma tonight."

"Hey," Snow lifted Hanna's chin. "We are not going to let him hurt your sister. Try not to worry, okay?"

"Okay."

"How about we go watch a little tv before you go to bed?"

Hanna gave her mom a smile. "Yeah let's go."

After school the next day, Hanna poofed herself to Emma's and found Henry and Violet standing in the kitchen eating a snack. She walked over to them and picked up a handful of chips.

"Aren't you grounded?" Henry asked.

Hanna shrugged. "Only when my dad is awake."

"You know they're going to catch you eventually, right?"

"Yeah probably, but I'll deal with that when it happens. How about we play video games?" Hanna turned to Violet. "Have you played Mario Kart, yet?"

"No," Violet said. "Are you sure you shouldn't go home?"

"If I go home now it'll blow my cover. I always hang out with you guys after school. My mom will know something is up."

Henry shook his head. "Hanna…"

"Let's just play. Please!"

"Fine."

They played a few rounds of Mario Kart, then Hanna went home to have dinner with her mom.

"Hey, babe. What did you and Henry do today?" Snow asked.

"We taught Violet how to play Mario Kart." Hanna sat down at the table.

Snow set a plate of food in front her her. "Oh yeah? How did that go?"

"She could use a little more practice."

Snow wheeled Neal's highchair over to the table. "Those two really seem to like each other, huh?"

"Yeah I think so."

"Is there anyone at school you like?" Snow sat down, took a bite of her meatloaf, and waited for an answer.

Hanna looked towards Neal. "Hey buddy." She picked up a green bean from her plate and handed it to him. "Here, do you want this?"

Neal smiled and took the green bean from his sister.

"Hanna?"

Hanna sighed. "No, Mom."

"Okay, okay. I had to ask."

Hanna rolled her eyes and ate her dinner.

"Okay, I'm going to take Neal and do the dishes," Snow said once they finished eating. "It's your night to do homework with me, so why don't you get started on that."

"Okay."

Hanna sat back so her mom could clear her plate. Then she went to the front door where she left her backpack. She took it into the living room and sat down on the floor by the coffee table. She was still a couple lessons behind in math, she had half a history paper to write, and a few pages in her science packet to complete. She knew all of this would take her more than just tonight to finish, but she would get done what she could and worry about the rest later. According to the grade book online, which her mom had been checking frequently, Hanna completed all of her assignments and had straight A's.

Hanna sat on the couch with Neal while her mom went to wake her dad. She heard him walk into the kitchen, then stop. He was reading the note, then the footsteps continued. They were coming towards her. From the corner of her eye, he saw him sit down on the couch beside her, but Hanna kept her focus on the baby.

"Hi," David said.

Hanna looked towards the other side of the couch and picked up Neal's stuffed monkey. "Here buddy, do you want to play with this?"

"Hanna?" David tried.

Neal gnawed on the monkey's tail for a second, before throwing it onto the floor. He looked back to his sister and smiled.

"No monkey? Okay." Hanna reached over for Neal's puppy. "How about this one?"

Neal took the puppy and immediately threw it onto the floor. He looked back to Hanna and let out a laugh.

Hanna smiled. This was Neal's favorite game at the moment.

"Why don't we try the duck?" David suggested. He held it out to Hanna.

Hanna's eyes stayed on her brother. "You like this one better, don't you?" Hanna picked up the sheep that was beside her and gave it to him.

He promptly threw it and an eruption of giggles followed.

"Hanna, come on. Talk to me."

Hanna sighed and looked over at her dad.

"Look, I know your mad because you had to come straight home after school today, but I didn't have much choice."

"You could have made the choice not to ground me."

"You deserve this punishment and you know it."

"I don't."

"Well, this is the way it's going to be for awhile. Are you going to be mad at me the entire time you're grounded?"

Hanna shrugged.

David sighed. "Well, I hope not."

Hanna didn't say anything. She watched Neal rub his eyes and let out a yawn. Then, he began to fuss. He was hungry and ready for bed.

"Here, why don't you let me take him." David reached out his hands for the baby.

Hanna didn't want to give him up, but she also knew Neal hadn't seen their dad all day and probably missed him. She held him out to her dad. He took the baby and stood up to get a bottle. Without thinking about it, Hanna reached for the remote.

"What are you doing?" David asked.

"Oh." Hanna set the remote back down. "I forgot."

"Why don't you go upstairs and get a shower. I'll put the baby to bed, then we can find something to do that doesn't involve television."

"Okay."

Hanna came downstairs awhile later. Neal was asleep and her dad was waiting for her in the living room. She walked over and saw two mugs of hot chocolate waiting on the coffee table. Hanna sat beside her dad on the couch and picked up a mug.

"You know a movie would go really great with the cocoa," Hanna said.

"I have a better idea."

"What?"

David held up a deck of Uno cards.

Hanna tried to hold back a smile. He knew that was her favorite game. She was annoyed that he grounded her, but she wasn't even actually grounded half the time anyway. She supposed she could ease up on him a bit. Hanna sighed. "Fine your bribes are working."

David gave her a wink. "I knew they would."

Hanna put her mug down, swiped the cards from his hand, and sat down in front of the coffee table. "I might not be mad anymore, but I'm still going to beat you at this."

David sat beside her. "In your dreams, princess."

Hanna shuffled the cards and dealt them each a hand.

A few days passed and there was no sign of Gideon anywhere. Everyone was on high alert for when he tried something again, but for now he was nowhere to be found. Hanna was still getting away with being partially grounded. Her mom had no idea, and her dad thought she was following his punishment. He seemed to be so pleased with her behavior, that Hanna had a feeling he was going to unground her soon.

Hanna was about to head home for dinner when she got a text from Killian asking her to meet him at the docks.

"Hey, what's going on?" Hanna asked. "Is everything okay? Is Emma…"

"Your sister is fine. That's who I wanted to talk to you about though. Uhh…"

Hanna could tell he was nervous. "What is it?"

"Can I show you something?"

"Yeah."

Killian reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box.

Hanna's mouth fell open. She knew what that was. "No way!" She reached out her hand. "Let me see! Let me see!" Hanna opened the box. "Oh Killian. It's beautiful."

Killian smiled. "I suppose I don't need to ask for your blessing. Seems I already have it."

Hanna nodded. "Yeah you do. When are you asking her?"

"I'm not sure yet."

"Do my mom and dad know?"

"Aye. They've given me their blessing. Henry knows too."

Hanna gave him back the ring box. "You better ask her soon. This family and secrets do not mix well."

Killian laughed. "I suppose you're right. I'll do it soon."

Hanna reached out and gave him a hug. "I'm so happy for you both."

Killian returned the hug. "Thank you, Hanna. And don't tell your sister."

"I won't."

Killian raised an eyebrow at her.

"I promise!"

Hanna would keep this secret for Killian. It would be hard though. It seems that she and her sister don't keep secrets from each other very well, but Hanna could easily avoid seeing Emma for a few days if she had to. Hanna waved her hand and sent herself home. She couldn't wait to talk to her mom about it.

"Hey, Han."

Hanna whipped her head around when she heard her sister's voice. "What are you doing here?"

Emma gave her a questioning look. "Well it's good to see you too."

Hanna winced. She was not off to a good start with this secret keeping. "I just meant you're not usually here at this time and…"

"I just had to drop something off for Dad."

"Oh. Are you staying for dinner?" Hanna really hoped she wasn't.

"Nah. I better get home." Emma gave her mom a hug, then stopped beside Hanna on her way to the door. She leaned in close and whispered. "Is there something going on I should know about?"

Hanna felt like her heart was about to beat out of her chest. "No."

"Okay. Well, I'll see you later I guess."

"Bye." Hanna gave Emma a smile. She could tell by the look on Emma's face that she was suspicious. Emma could read her like a book. Hanna did her best and there was nothing she could do about it now. Once Emma was gone, Hanna turned around and her mom was right beside her.

"Killian told you didn't he?"

Hanna nodded. "He did."

"I wondered if he would ask you."

"Isn't the ring so pretty?"

"Wait, you got to see the ring?"

"Yeah. It's so pretty, Mom. Wait until you see it."

"Can I show you something?"

Hanna nodded.

Her mom went into her bedroom and rummaged through the closet. She emerged with a giant white binder. She brought it out and set it on the counter.

"What is it?"

"Ideas for Emma's wedding."

"When did you make this?"

"Oh I started it awhile ago, and I've slowly added a few things here and there."

"A few things?"

Snow sighed. "Okay, a lot of things, but can you blame me? I'm missed out on so much, and I'm excited."

"I think it's great, Mom. Emma's going to love it."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah."

Snow picked the binder up from the counter. "Come on, let me show you." She held onto Hanna's hand and pulled her towards the couch.

Hanna spent the next hour looking through the binder with her mom. The more she looked through it, the more she was looking forward to this wedding. With everything that's going on, this family could use a celebration. Then a thought occurred to Hanna. Her parents. The sleeping curse. How could Emma get married with only one of their parents able to be awake at a time? How could Emma truly enjoy her wedding without both of them being there? They had to find some way to break this curse.
