A/N: This is just an idea that I had gotten for an Isekai(ish?) story. Since it's more of an experiment than an actual story, it won't be updated too often. But who knows, if enough people like the idea, maybe we'll make it a regular thing. But until then, let's get started with the story, shall we?

Reincarnation of a Troubled Young Man!

Life is unpredictable. From the time that they're old enough to understand that every sentient being knows and understands this. And as they truly grasp the concept of life and death, they also come to understand that their next breath is not guaranteed. One's life can come to an end in the blink of an eye. In fact, one's life can end in one of many ways.

Starvation, dehydration, terrible injuries, sickness, murder, and even something as simple as old age. But no matter how it happens, death will come for everyone, no matter how much one tries to avoid it.

And for one young man lying in a puddle of his own blood in the middle of the road, his death is not a pleasant one.

Calvin, at the age of sixteen years old, is ordinarily considered to be quite the looker among the girls of his age group, and even among some older women. But at this moment, he is a right mess. His once vibrant spiky blonde hair is currently matted with blood and his skin is paler than usual from blood loss. Underneath his lean, muscular frame many of his bones are broken, and he could feel that one of his ribs has punctured a lung. His blue eyes stared up into the cloudy sky as rain slowly began to fall.

'Do the heavens… weep… for someone like me…?' Calvin thought to himself as he continued to bleed out. 'Well, it's a… a lot more… than my 'parents'... ever did for me…'

Calvin zoned out as the blood loss was making him dizzy, his vision becoming more and more blurry by the second as he was barely able to make out the shape of an ambulance pulling up. He closed his eyes as paramedics rushed onto the scene and got him into the ambulance, and from that point on he felt nothing. When he did regain consciousness, he kept his eyes closed as he registered the beeping of a heart monitor and felt something, likely an I.V. drip, stuck in his arm. He could hear the voices of a doctor and a nurse talking, revealing to him that he was likely in a hospital room.

"...It's amazing he survived as long as he did." said a man.

"Will he be alright, Doctor?" asked a woman, who must have been a nurse.

The doctor hummed and replied, "It seems unlikely. That firebird hit him pretty hard. Multiple broken bones, a lung punctured by a rib, severe internal bleeding, several torn ligaments, and multiple ruptured organs. Honestly, I'm surprised he wasn't dead by the time the paramedics got there, let alone survived long enough to make it here for surgery.".

The doctor sighed and said, "We also discovered multiple signs of neglect and abuse on the young man. As such, we called the police and they're launching an investigation into his parents, as any possible neglect or abuse on their part could have played a role in his current condition.".

The nurse gasped and said, "Oh my, how awful! The poor young man…".

The doctor hummed in agreement as he set down the charts he was holding. He hated it when he failed to save lives, especially the lives of children, regardless of their age.

"As unfortunate as it is… all we can do now is wait for nature to run its course." he said with a voice full of regret.

The doctor and nurse stood there in silence as Calvin mentally sighed. Somehow, he knew that he wouldn't survive this day. But at least he would be released from the utter hell that is his life. Never again would he be neglected or abused by the monsters that he has long been forced to call his parents. He wouldn't have to sleep on an old, lumpy mattress on a broken bed frame, and he wouldn't be forced to live off of scraps from the meals that he has been denied. And yet, at the same time, he felt as though he life was unfulfilled. He never did get the chance to make a better life for himself. To experience love and happiness and have a family of his own. Never given the chance to have children of his own, to give them the love and care that he was denied in his childhood.

'At least Hobbes will be okay. He'll be happy with my baby cousin.' Calvin thought.

"It's truly a shame that he's alone right now." said the nurse.

"Yeah. Unfortunately, the only relatives who cared about this young man live too far away. By the time they get here, it will likely be too late." The doctor said.

The two quietly left the room under the impression that Calvin was asleep. But he wasn't. He heard every word. And as he laid there dying in a hospital bed, listening to the slowing beeps of the heart monitor, he couldn't help but ponder. Could his life have turned out different if his parents hadn't turned into neglectful, abusive monsters? Could he have found happiness in this world after graduating high school and moving away from his parents? Would he be doomed to live a life of a single man with no family of his own? So many questions left unanswered… but it's probably for the best.

'I just wish… that I could have… a… second chance… to live…'

Finally, after a few more beeps, the heart monitor flatlined as Calvin, a young man with a bad past, passed on from the mortal world. But little did he know, his journey wasn't quite over yet.

Calvin awoke with a start as he opened his eyes and saw that he was no longer in the hospital. He remembered dying, so…

"Am I in heaven?" he thought out loud. "Not exactly what the bible describes it as."

The place that Calvin speaks of was a dark void that looked like the deepest reaches of space with stars, planets, and galaxies everywhere. But in the center of this place was a golden throne with someone on it. Curious, Calvin started walking towards this mysterious person. However, something felt different. And when he looked down at himself, he figured out why.

"WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO MY BODY?" screamed Calvin.

For his body was no more. Instead, he had been reduced to a red-orange ball of light floating in the air with a flaming aura. He could still feel the sensation of walking, but he no longer had the necessary limbs to allow such a thing!

"Oh man, if this is what happens when you die, then…"

"THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN. YOU ARE ONE OF THE SPECIAL CASES." says a voice, startling Calvin.

He looked back up to see the figure rising up from the throne and walking towards him. It appeared to be a man whose body was made up of pure orange light. However, his face was featureless. Even though he didn't give off any harmful intent, Calvin could feel the power emanating from this man. It made him doubt that this was an ordinary man.

"CALVIN. I AM THE GOD WHO WATCHES OVER THIS REALM." he said.

"You're God? So, then… are you here to judge me, or…?" Calvin asked uncertainly.

"BE CALM, MY SON. YOU ARE NOT HERE TO BE JUDGED. IT'S NOT YOUR TIME, YET."

Calvin made a noise of confusion. If God wasn't there to judge him and send him to Heaven or Hell, then why was he here? And what did he mean by 'not his time yet'?

"I HAVE WATCHED YOUR LIFE SINCE THE DAY OF YOUR BIRTH. YOUR PARENTS NEGLECTED YOU FROM THE MOMENT YOU TURNED SEVEN YEARS OLD AND STARTED ABUSING YOU WHEN YOU REACHED ADOLESCENCE. YOU WENT FOR YEARS WITHOUT COMFORT, AND EVEN GAVE UP THE COMFORTING PRESENCE OF YOUR TIGER, HOBBES, AND GAVE HIM TO YOUR BABY COUSIN FOR HER BIRTHDAY. YOU WERE MEANT TO LIVE AND BE ADOPTED BY A LOVING FAMILY IN YOUR WORLD BUT DIED SOON AFTER BEING RUN OVER BY A HIT AND RUN DRIVER."

If Calvin still had his body, he would have shuddered at the wave of memories that hit him. He remembered seeing the car speeding towards him as he got off the bus to go home, and not having enough time to get out of the way. Then there was pain, and then everything that led up to his death. He even remembered the wish he had made right before dying.

"FEAR NOT, MY SON, FOR I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYERS. I WILL REINCARNATE YOU IN A NEW WORLD WITH A NEW, MUCH STRONGER BODY AND ALL OF YOUR MEMORIES INTACT. IN THIS NEW WORLD, YOU WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO FIND LOVE AND HAPPINESS LIKE YOU ALWAYS DREAMED. AND WHEN YOUR TIME FINALLY COMES, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL BE WELCOMED INTO THE KINDGOM OF HEAVEN." God informed.

Calvin floated there in stunned silence.

His prayer was being granted?

He was going to have a second chance at life?

A chance to find the love and happiness that he was denied by his parents?

This sounded almost too good to be true! He really wished that he could pinch himself right then and there, because he thought that he was dreaming.

"NOW, DO YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS?" asked God.

Calvin didn't need to think about it as he replied, "I've always wanted to give martial arts a try. Could I be sent to a world where there are lots of strong fighters and I can become a great warrior?".

"MARTIAL ARTS? INTERESTING."

God knew that Calvin would make this choice, of course. And he knew that such a world was perfect for the young lad. In spite of his harsh upbringing, he had a protective fighting spirit that only became stronger as he grew older. He was always willing to put himself in harm's way if it meant he could save even one life.

God waved a hand and Calvin felt a pulse in his spherical body.

"IT IS DONE. WHEN YOU AWAKEN, YOU WILL BE IN YOUR NEW BODY IN WHICH YOU SHALL HAVE YOUR CHANCE TO LIVE YOUR NEW LIFE."

Calvin lightly groaned as he felt like gravity had intensified around him. He could feel himself drifting off as he was being revived.

"ENJOY YOUR CHANCE AT A SECOND LIFE."

No longer able to remain conscious, Calvin's vision blurred before everything went black as his soul was placed into his new body in the world where he was to be reincarnated.

If only he knew just what kind of adventures lay in store for him.

***...To Be Continued…***

Ending A/N: And so, we begin a new story. One of my personal takes on an Isekai style story. Now, I have been thinking about what I want to reincarnate Calvin into, and I think I might have at least a vague idea. But I'll need more time to decide on that. As a result, I DO NOT know when this story is going to be updated! So, PLEASE don't spam me with emails asking me to update it, or asking when new chapters are ready! Okay? Okay. Have a good day. Thank you for understanding, and I'll see you next time, my hatchlings.
