"All those in favor?" a voice boomed from the middle of the large room. The man in question gave off the air of a leader. He was tall and, despite his old age, a rather fit man. In fact, the only thing that gave away his true age was the gray hair that came out from under his hat as well as his long gray beard. In his hand he held a scepter, appearing to be in the shape of a shepherd's crook. He wore a black tunic with white robes covering his legs along with a flowing black cape, along with a gray armor like glove. This man, Gran Doma, was the spitting image of a wizard with power to spare.

Around him, many other figures floated in the air on light blue circles, all of whom were dressed in a way that only wizards would. One after another, shouts of approval could be heard. Some were more vocal than others, especially a man with cat-like features who rested his entire body weight on a small wooden cane. There were also some who were hesitant, like an old woman who had her fading blonde hair tied up in a rough ponytail. Whether said quietly or screamed at the top of their lungs, all the yes votes were counted so that they wouldn't have to go through this process again.

'I believe that's a majority,' thought Gran Doma with a smirk on his face, 'but for that sake of fairness…' He knew the outcome was already set in stone, but he was bound by the laws, even if he was part of the body that made them. "All opposed?" he said with much less fervor.

The room was practically silent. All that could be heard was the small voice of an elderly man. "I'm opposed," he said, knowing that his vote would never matter. Yajima held his head down, sad to see the outcome of the vote, even if he knew this day would come eventually.

The smile on Gran Doma's face only seemed to grow. "Then it's decided. With a nearly unanimous vote, the magic council hereby disbands the Fairy Tail guild." A loud whack was heard as he slapped his hands together. With this motion, the projections of every council member evaporated, leaving behind only small puffs of magic. All by himself, Gran Doma finally succumbed to his joy, laughing with pleasure, knowing that the thorn in his side, in the side of the council for generations, would finally be no more.

In a small meeting room in a secluded part of Era, three individuals, two men and one woman, sat around a small table. One man wore a layered black and white robe which covered his tall frame. He sported a bald head with a bat-like ornament and a long white beard. His more peculiar features were his slightly pointed ears and the one eye he kept perpetually closed. The other man was of a much shorter stature, wearing a long sleeved brown sweater. His hair was hidden behind a strange hat with three spikes. He had a well kept toothbrush mustache which contrasted his bushy eyebrows. His face showed exactly how he currently felt; a mixture of depression and rage.

Their final member, a woman wearing a purple turtleneck and a black overcoat, sported a similar, if not more sad, expression. She wore her fading blonde hair in a messy ponytail, letting two strands fall to either side of her face. After what felt like an eternity of silence between the group, the woman finally spoke up. "It was for the greater good, Yajima. While each of those children have every good intention, when they are allowed to all congregate under a leader who is just like them," she paused, thinking her words over very carefully, "Well, you've seen the damage that they can cause."

The taller man gave a slow nod. "She's right. I know how much good Fairy Tail has done for the magic world, but if they are left unchecked, who knows what monsters they could stir up." He paused for a second. "Power breeds more power. With the rate at which that guild grows stronger, I can only see it ending poorly for everyone." His expression was not one of sadness, but he didn't seem to be joyous at the council's outcome.

Yajima simply sat there, listening to his fellow council members. It took him a while before he finally spoke. "With all due respect, Belno, Org," he addressed them both, "I'm afraid you're unaware of just how poorly this is going to go for all of us." The two stared back at him in confusion. "Let me put it simply. How likely do you think it is that a family that is that tightly knit will willingly cut ties with one another just because the council says so?"

Both Belno and Org blanched at Yajima's questions. They hadn't thought about that outcome. And if they hadn't, the council members that looked upon Fairy Tail in a good light, they knew for sure that those who thought of Fairy Tail as nothing but a gang of reckless lunatics hadn't.

They both launched out of their seats, ready to run to the office of Gran Doma to inform him how wrong the council had been, when Yajima stopped them with a raised hand. "What's done is done. There's no point in trying to convince that man now. He's finally gotten what he wanted," Yajima then stood up and began walking towards the door. "Let's just hope he's able to deal with the consequences of his actions." Yajima opened the door and took a step out of it. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a letter of resignation to write. I wish you all the best of luck in the coming storm."

The notice was nailed to the door as she walked up to the guild hall. It wasn't unusual for random flyers to find their way onto the giant wooden doors, usually from those trying to sell something or from those who weren't familiar with the process of filing a request. However, usually Mira or the master would remove them when they opened the doors in the morning. It was rare that they'd allow these papers to last so late into the morning.

Approaching the door, she was finally able to read what it said. In bold font was written, 'DISBANDED BY DECREE OF THE COUNCIL. ALL WIZARDS ARE TO VACATE THE PREMISES WITHIN 24 HOURS OF POSTING.' In a much smaller print at the bottom of the paper, the time of postage was given as six in the morning, well before any guild member would be awake.

Lucy stared at the notice in horror. It had been common knowledge the council wasn't a fan of her guild, but not a single person believed they'd be disbanded. It almost felt like a nightmare. Without Fairy Tail, she had no idea what she would do. This had been her dream, finally finding a place she belonged, and now that was ripped away from her with no warning. How was anybody supposed to deal with that?

She rushed into the guild hall, hoping that someone inside would have answers. Maybe this was just a prank? Maybe she had read the notice wrong? Maybe this really was a nightmare and confronting it head on would force her to wake up? Sadly, none of those hypotheticals appeared to be true as she entered the building.

The atmosphere inside was suffocating. The place that was usually so lively was now as silent as if no one was there. Everyone stared at the floor, not a single person dared to speak up. Even her closest friends, the people in the guild she always saw as the rowdiest, were completely silent.

Erza had her head planted into the bar, her face covered by her crimson locks. A piece of strawberry cake sat beside her head, fully uneaten. She wore her usual armor, something she had stopped wearing in the guild hall long ago. It was obvious how she felt just by seeing her state.

Gray sat in a corner of the guild, staring down into the floor. This raven hair hid his eyes, but she was sure they were currently filled with hatred. His button-up shirt was half off already, but he somehow managed to keep his clothing on. The aura of cold around him was so intense that not even Juvia dared to get near him.

The strangest of all, though, was Natsu. He wasn't rampaging in anger at the news or leaving in a hurry to attack the council. No, he simply sat at a booth with a blank expression. He seemed to be staring off into space, as if he didn't know how to process what was going on. This realization made Lucy's heart hurt the most. The man who burned with the most passion in the guild was reduced to an emotionless husk at the current situation.

The more she looked around the guild, the more sad groups she saw. Wendy was crying in a corner, being consoled by Carla and Happy, who were also shedding tears. Gajeel was calmly sitting next to Levy and the rest of Shadow Gear, not a single snide remark coming from his mouth. Cana sat at the bar with a multitude of alcoholic beverages in front of her, all of which were still full. The Strauss siblings were all huddled behind the bar, Mira and Lisanna each within one of Elfman's large arms. Even Laxus and his Thunder Tribe were uncharacteristically docile. The entire guild seemed to be grieving in their own ways.

After a few minutes inside the quiet guild, everyone heard a voice come from the second floor balcony, "Well, now that everyone's here, we can begin." The voice came from Master Makarov. His voice was calm and collected, but looking into his eyes revealed the rage of a dragon that burned beneath every word. "As I'm sure all of you are aware, it would appear the council has finally put the last nail in our coffin. They see us as a threat to their authority and have decided our strength is unnecessary. It is with a heavy heart that I must say…" he paused for what felt like an eternity. The guild hall was so quiet that the sound of a needle being dropped would be thunderous. Finally, Makarov continued, "Screw the council!"

The guild erupted into cheers, their sadness all forgotten. It was amazing how just a few words from their master could change everyone's mood.

Lucy was reminded of her first day in the guild, when the master had uttered similar words. While she was still scared of everyone back then, she knew from that point on just how close this family was. They wouldn't let anyone get in their way. They wouldn't let anyone tear them apart.

Makarov hushed down the roaring crowd, taking back control of the room. "Who cares what the council says. Who cares if they're scared of us? Who cares if it's against their laws? Fairy Tail will never die and they'll have to put me in my grave before I let them!" The cheers of the guild members roared out, none willing to submit to the council's decree. "So what if they remove us from the guild list? So what if they label us a dark guild? So what if we're seen as criminals? As long as this family sticks together, nothing matters!"

The entire guild was rallying behind Makarov's speech. They wouldn't let the council decide their fate. And even though the idea of breaking the law brought concern to some of their faces, the thought of losing their family hurt them more. There wasn't a single person in attendance who was fully against the idea.

And so the Fairy Tail guild did what they did best. They partied, fought, and caused general havoc in their personal haven of a guild hall, knowing that this might be the last night they get to fully appreciate the building as legal mages.

When morning came, Gran Doma personally came to Magnolia in order to see the fruits of his labor. He was excited to finally see that guild hall empty of the pests which caused him so much stress.

As he walked down the streets, they were surprisingly lively for the early morning. He didn't often frequent Magnolia, but he figured they acted like every other major city. Everyone he passed avoided making eye contact, whispering between each other as they walked away. He knew that Magnolia and Fairy Tail were closely knit, but he didn't think the city would die without the guild. He continued to proudly walk down the cobblestone street, oblivious to the words the people spoke.

When he reached the site of the Fairy Tail guild hall, he was dumbfounded. In its place was a giant crater. It almost appeared as if the hall had been ripped from the ground. Gran Doma now understood why the town was so lively so early.

He approached the crater, only to notice a small wooden sign placed where the doors of the guild hall used to be. In large red letters was written,'SCREW THE COUNCIL.' As soon as he had read the sign, it burned into a pile of ash. Without a word Gran Doma stormed off from whence he came, already knowing what had happened. He was just surprised the crazy guild had gone through with it.

A/N: I know that timeline wise, some of this doesn't make sense. Let's just say it takes place sometime after Tenrou, but with some things changed. I'll get around to explaining them at some point, but for now the only thing that I believe needs explaining is that Yajima didn't quit the council after Jellal did his thing with the Tower of Heaven.
