Chapter 1: Hello stranger
Harry Potter was a small child. He had always been on the shorter side, but his relatives didn't help the fact. He was walking through Kings Cross all by himself. A couple adults looked his way. Most ordinary children didn't walk the train station alone. But he was no ordinary child. He was a wizard. That last poast did confuse him. Hagrid hadn't stuck around to explain what that implied. All he had gotten out of the half giant was that he wasn't even an ordinary wizard. A powerful evil wizard had for some reason murdered his parents and tried to murder him, a. baby, too. Hagrid had when explained his parents were magical as well. He had spent a long time talking about Dumbledore. Dumbledore was, according to Hagrid, the greatest wizard of all time. Harry couldn't help but wonder, why he had defeated Voldemort as a baby, if he could have just done it. So Harry didn't know much about this other world. It would have been helpful if he was able to read his schoolbooks. But since he came home from Diagon Alley his aunt and uncle had been almost obsessed with giving him no time to himself. So he had cooked and cleaned the rest of the holidays. He hoped he would have time to read when he was on the train. That would imply that he got on in the first place. Hagrid had left before explaining how you got on platform 9 3/4. He had tried to ask an adult however it seemed the muggles had no idea.
He looked around. A family of three were walking up to the wall between platform 9 and 10. Harry recognized the blonde boy from the shop. The boy walked directly though the wall. It must be magic like how you got into Diagon Alley. The long-haired blonde man and the little pretty woman walked right behind him. They also disappeared. Harry waited a minute, he started walking. Facing the wall he took the last step and walked right through. He appeared on the platform. A huge train was ready. He quickly got on. The hunt for an empty compartment started. Most were full of students with all colored trunks. His experience in Diagon Alley had tought him, that he was well known. That he was somehow famous in this world because he had survived and presumably killed Voldemort. Silence was also necessary to read his books. He finally located an empty one.
He sat his trunk on one of the seats and started digging through the contents until he found a book. "A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration" was the title. It looked promising. As he opened the book, the door did the same. Steps sounded. He looked up at the intruder. It was a girl, a rather petite one. She had long wavy strawberry blonde hair. Electric blue met avada-kedavra green. Curiosity lit up her doe eyes. There went his plan.
"Hello stranger, is it fine with you, if I sit here. My friends are being a bit much, and I don't care enough about Quidditch to withstand their bickering." She gave him an apologetic smile.
It would be very rude to turn her away. Making a friend might be good for later. She seemed like a nice girl. He started anylising her. She obviously knew more about the magic world, since she brought up Quidditch again. That meant he could get some information out of her. He didn't like being oblivious so he decided that the girl could stay.
"Yes, that sounds dreadful."
"So you are not going to monolog about the canons. You just got yourself a travel companion. Are you a first year too?"
So she was in his year, then he would at least know her. He didn't want to admit to being Harry Potter, the wizard killing baby, just yet. He needed to test her. See if she changed behavior after she knew.
"I am Harry. And yes I am a first-year too."
She started moving and carefully placed her luggage above their heads.
"My name is Elowyn. Do you know which house you are going to?"
"I don't know yet, haven't really thought about it."
"Yeah probably smart. You never know. A lot of the others go in with their mind made up and don't give the other houses a chance. Then again people usually follow their family. So do yours favor a special house or is it more mixed?" she ranted as she sat down.
That was news to him, Hagrid had told him his parents were Gryffindors, but Elowyn might know of other options.
"My parent were both Gryffindors, unless you know of any Potters outside of Gryffindor?"
There he had said it. It wasn't the original plan but he needed to know. His head turned to study her reaction. Her smile turns sad. The light in the electric eyes disappeared.
"Harry Potter, I should probably had guessed. I think the Potters are mostly in Gryffindor, but there have been claws and snakes among them. Your paternal grandmother Dorea Potter was a Slytherin, if I am not mistaken. But you really don't know until you get sorted."
She didn't ask to see the scar or questioned him on his parents' deaths, so she is up in his book. She did give him more information though, Slytherin and Ravenclaw were also possible. He sadly didn't know much about Ravenclaw, but the boy in the store favored Slytherin while Hagrid hated it. According to him all wizards that ever went bad went to Slytherin or something like that. Harry couldn't see that being true. Unless they had some secret extracurricular activities such as murdering babies and coming up with a weird name people somehow used a longer alternative for.
