Getting a call from Eddie in the middle of the night wasn't that unusual after everything that happened. Nightmares and insomnia weren't that uncommon between them. But getting a call with Eddie freaking out and demanding he come over, right now, before hanging up had sent Steve into a panic.
He barely remembered the drive across town, only the pure panic that came from the thought of losing Eddie. Steve had slowly been getting used to the idea of Eddie as more than a friend, but that call, the idea that he might be hurt or worse, had shoved Steve's feelings into his face in full force. Steve loved Eddie, and he couldn't live without him.
Screeching to a half in front of Eddie's trailer, he was both relieved and pissed off to find Eddie alive and apparently unharmed. "What the hell?!" Steve yelled, unable to keep his voice down as he got out, slamming the car door behind him. "I thought you were hurt! I thought it was back!"
Eddie looked startled. "Jesus, Steve, calm down. I mean, it's an emergency, but I'm okay."
"Calm down? I thought I'd lost you!" Steve took a deep breath, eyes snapping open again when Eddie grabbed his arms, squeezing him reassuringly. His voice softened as his next words came out without his permission. "I love you, Eds. I can't lose you."
"I'm right here, Stevie." Eddie smiled, hugging him tight. When they broke apart, he hesitated for a second before leaning in again to kiss Steve chastely. "And yeah, I feel the same. I'm always gonna be here."
Steve nodded, relief flooding his system, and suddenly, he felt exhausted. "So what was so important?"
"Oh, a damn raccoon stole my necklace." Eddie glared at the woods, tugging Steve toward them. "Come on, it went this way."
"Eddie-"
"It. Took. My. Necklace. That shit won't stand. I'm getting it back."
Steve laughed but followed after him all too willingly.
