A/N: Surprise, a new POV! These next few chapters are partly why I even started this story and parts of it are some of the first things I wrote. I switched to Edward's POV for a couple reasons. 1-I love Edward, especially overprotective daddy Edward and 2-it gives us a glimpse into everyone else's thoughts as well. I hope you like it!

Edward's POV

Our car sped down the highway with an urgency I hadn't had to feel on behalf of my loved ones in almost a decade. Bella's hand crushed mine over the console while I drove one handed, pushing my Vanquish as fast as it could go. We had made it back to Washington in record time, all thoughts toward finding our daughter.

In the early hours of the morning, Alice had called in a panic as Renesmee completely disappeared from her future visions. While Alice could never see Renesmee's future the same way she could see our kinds', she had become attuned to her enough over the years to develop the skill to keep track of her peripherally. This sudden disappearance was a drastic change from her current normal. There were only two other times this had happened to Alice's visions in the past, both involving my once human wife; the most recent incident involved the conception of Renesmee herself, but before that those damn dogs were to blame.

Call it father's intuition, or just plain panic, but I felt it in my gut that they were to blame. Immediately I thought the worst; Renesmee knew the statutes of the treaty. Had she accidentally crossed the boundary line? Had they decided to turn against her unprovoked? I wanted to call Seth as soon as we landed in the states, but hesitated. While he was our friend, his first loyalty would always be to his pack. Could we be confident he would tell us the truth? Would he update the pack of our knowledge, spurring an even quicker attack?

Bella and I had barely spoken on our journey home; as soon as we both heard of the possible danger, it was as if we were two halves of one mind focused on the future ahead. From time to time, Bella would lower her shield to share her thoughts or questions with me, I would answer her and we'd continue our silent worrying.

As soon as we heard from Alice, we left Isle Esme. Alice was able to help us arrange the quickest travel arrangements; she even had Carlisle and Esme rush my car over to the Seattle airport so we would be ready to hit the road. She contacted all the family for us, updating them and rallying them to meet up with us should we discover danger in Forks.

After what felt like ages, we pulled up to Charlie's house. It was early evening, so he was already home from the station. In a blink, Bella and I were at the front door, her letting us both inside. Charlie and Sue looked up from the couch, surprised.

"Bella, Edward, we weren't expecting you so soon!" Charlie blushed as he unwound his arm from around his wife and came to meet us by the door.

"Hi dad," Bella worked to fake a calm expression, reaching out to hug him. We didn't want to alert Charlie of our panic yet until we knew the whole story; keeping Charlie in the dark from the supernatural was imperative.

"We had to change our plans, travel is just too complicated these days." I lied smoothly. "We took it as a sign to come check in with Renesmee and hopefully try again in a couple of days."

Charlie was easily soothed; his "need to know only" attitude had become such a blessing. Unfortunately, his thoughts were just as difficult for me to read as ever. I saw flashes in his mind of our daughter on her visit so far, but his thoughts were too obscure for me to tell much about the details.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Jacob's face popped into his mind. I clenched my jaw in rage; if there was one person I never wanted to see again, it was that mutt. Bella looked up at me, fearing the reason behind my reaction. Why would he be thinking of Jacob? Was he still pouting over Bella choosing me over him? The coward left town every year when we visited, refusing to chance running into us. I assumed he may choose to disappear for the summer with Renesmee here to visit, but I couldn't have cared less about his plans. If we were lucky, Seth would stop by soon and I could get answers much quicker.

Bella and I turned, ready to head up the stairs where we assumed she would be.

"Oh, she actually went out for dinner tonight!" This pulled us both up short. The Volvo was in the driveway, who was she with?

Again Charlie's thoughts were back on Jacob's face. But then, the image changed, another view of Jacob in this house…with Renesmee next to him. My jaw must be on the floor. I could not even process what I was seeing. Bella could see I was at a loss for words and stepped in.

"Oh really? Is she with Seth?" Bella, so much more level headed, came up with a rational question. But Charlie's uncomfortable expression still had me on edge.

"Well she's with," he hesitated. "Jacob actually. They met yesterday and have spent some time together."

"Jacob?!" Bella gasped at the same time that I barked, "What?!"

Well that explained her disappearing future; if she's been hanging out with Jacob, Alice can't see it. Charlie may not have known the full story of our lives, but he knew enough of our history to know our relationship with Jacob was far from positive.

"Yeah, they seem to really get along." He mumbled, looking at the floor as he worked to make sure not to upset us further.

At that moment, we heard another car pull up. I searched the mind, hoping to hear my little girl, but heard Seth instead. Not the first person I wanted to hear from, but still someone who should have some answers for us. Seth hustled up to the porch, already seeing my car and smelling our scent. He was excited to see us, no fear or anger in his thoughts, which soothed me just the smallest degree. There didn't seem to be any animosity from the pack at least. He jogged up to the door, letting himself in.

"Hey mom, Charlie! Are Bella and Edward here?" He rounded the corner, his near constant smile on his face. When he saw us standing there, he smiled wider for a moment and moved to hug us before he saw our stressed faces. His face and steps faltered.

"Hi Seth," Bella spoke calmly, stepping toward him carefully. "Have you seen Renesmee recently?" She asked pointedly.

I concentrated on every bit of his thoughts as they passed through his mind.

Renesmee? Of course, just this afternoon with Jake. She's fine. Why do they look so stressed? Wait, do they not know?

I unfroze right then, seeing from his tone that I wanted to be away from Charlie so I could drop the pretenses. I grabbed Bella's hand and Seth's arm, pushing us all back out the front door. They followed me without protest. We stopped a few feet from the door, out of ear shot.

"Seth, what's going on here?" I asked, keeping my voice as calm as I could.

Bella watched between us both, worrying her lip with her teeth, a nervous habit from her human days.

"Guys, Renesmee is okay. I promise." Dammit I can't believe they don't know. I can't be the one to tell them. But the second I think about it, Edward will know it all. "Trust me. You all know I love her as family." His look between the two of us was sincere.

"Seth please, what are you hiding from us?" Bella pleaded to him.

Seth shook her off and started to pace beside the length of the porch.

There's no rule against me telling them. But hell, that's not my job! They'll hate it. They'll hate me. Friendship out the window. It's always easy to shoot the messenger. He continued into a spiral of worry, picturing me attacking him in all sorts of ways.

"Seth, please, you're killing me here. You know I wouldn't hurt you. We just want to know Renesmee is safe. If she is, then there's nothing for us to be upset about."

Ok FINE but remember that please. It'll just be easier for me to show you what happened. Fill Bella in okay?

I squeezed Bella's hand, "He's going to show me and I'll fill you in." She nodded, still stressed.

That's when Seth started showing me his memories.

It was last night, he and Sam were taking their turn patrolling the reservation. They both ran casually, following their well-worn paths. As they ran, they chatted with each other on and off but also enjoyed the peace of the night. Suddenly, they both felt the shift in the air as someone joined their mind link.

"Sam. Seth." Jacob gasped their names frantically. They both stuttered as they ran.

"Jake, are you okay?" Seth asked.

"Jacob," Sam commanded, "breathe everything is okay."

Jacob started sprinting towards Seth's path, the closest to him.

"Sam, come meet us please. I have to talk to you both." It was obvious Jacob worked to focus on only those words and his paws on the ground, not giving anything away.

He waited until all three of them were together to show them the cause of his distress.

They watched as Jacob recounted his night out with Embry and Quill. The guys wanted to go into Forks to have dinner at the diner and watch some baseball. Jake was hesitant to go, wanting to avoid the town as much as possible this summer, but they convinced him. He met them there after work, hopping off his bike and rushing in to join them at the table they had secured closest to the tv. He flung the door open and just a few steps inside he bumped right into a tall, auburn haired girl. He apologized and looked down, meeting her deep brown eyes.

"Oh cool you met Renesmee!" Seth excitedly thought before he fully grasped what was happening.

Jacob replayed a feeling he had only experienced before through others' thoughts; he felt as if his entire center of the universe had shifted in that moment, focusing on the girl.

"Jacob," Sam's mental voice was surprised but happy. "You've imprinted!"

"Oh you have got to be kidding me!" I spoke aloud for the first time, causing Bella and Seth to jump.

"Edward?" Bella was fighting back frustration as she waited for me to clue her in.

I held up my index finger, asking both of them to give me a minute. Of all the things I ever imagined to worry about with my daughter a werewolf imprinting on her was just about at the end of my list. I thought I'd left my last worry about Jacob Black stealing away the most important things in my life when we drove away on our wedding night, but like a cockroach here he is crawling back out to pester us some more. Taking a deep breath, I turned to Bella to fill her in. I spoke each word slowly through my clenched teeth.

"Jacob Black has," I felt like I swallowed back bile as I braced to speak the words. "Imprinted on our daughter."

Bella's eyes and mouth could not have opened wider.

"I'm sorry, WHAT?" She all but screamed. Seth glanced nervously back and forth between us while we locked gazes. Bella lifted her shield so she could let me in on her thoughts.

Edward you're kidding right? This has to be some cruel, twisted joke.

I shook my head slowly at her.

No Edward, just no. Her thoughts became desperate. That can't be. I'm sure he hates her. She's our daughter. Our history together…this is just weird! And the age difference, it doesn't make any sense!

I didn't know how to respond. We were on the exact same wavelength.

"Bella, I wish I could say it's a joke but it's not. He showed Seth when they were wolves, so it's clear to both of us it was the truth." Her face showed she was refusing to believe it. "Actually Seth, Bella brings up a good point. Does Jacob even realize who she is?"

"Oh yeah, he does now. Not when he first met her though. Jake knew of her before, of course, from the first time Sam and I met her. But he refused to know anymore than that." Bella pulled in a quick breath. She had let her shield fall back but I could tell from her eyes that it hurt for her to hear that her once best friend was so against learning about her beloved daughter.

"He didn't know her name or what she looked like now. So when he first met her at the diner, he had no idea who she was. They sat and talked for a while but then when Renesmee needed to get home, he offered to follow her just to make sure she got there safely." I balled my fists up at this, refusing to believe that Jacob Black had remotely good intentions for my daughter.

"When she pulled up to Charlie's house, he nearly fainted and it all clicked. He panicked, obviously. That's when he headed straight back to La Push to find me and Sam, since he knew we were the only ones who had met her. It was obviously a shock to him, to all of us. I know he made plans to take her to dinner tonight and was working on how to tell her about everything. He was real nervous about that, he wasn't sure what all she knew about, you know," He paused, feeling incredibly awkward. "The history here." He finished, waving his hand between Bella, myself, and the open air.

That history, ancient history, my stomach rolled at remembering the heartache, the fury those months were filled with. Bella reached over and grabbed my hand, squeezing it, reminding me nothing from that time can hurt us again.

"She didn't seem to recognize his name so he assumed she didn't know very much." Bella and I both nodded at him, confirming as much.

"No, we never told her his name and kept details vague. It wasn't the simplest topic to tell our daughter." Bella explained, shrugging.

"Oh for sure. None of us were surprised she didn't know him. I mean who would've expected something like this?" Seth was relieved to see we really wouldn't take our frustration out on him.

"Seth, I'm confused. If he hasn't told Renesmee the full story yet, why were you surprised to hear we didn't know?" I asked him.

"Well, I assumed that's why you came back so soon. They met last night, I thought maybe she mentioned meeting him and the two of you thought one of two things. Either you were scared he was up to something or you suspected the truth." Thinking of it that way, Bella and I met eyes again, both now very curious as to why our daughter hadn't mentioned anything.

From our thoughtful expressions, Seth continued. "Sooooo if you didn't know about Jake, what brought you here?" That reminded me of our original fear.

"Seth, do you remember Alice's vision trouble back when we fought the newborns?" He nodded. "She can't see you all. Anytime Bella would go to La Push, she would disappear for Alice until she was away from the wolves. Alice called last night to warn us Renesmee had disappeared." I looked down at Bella, "I have to admit, we assumed the very worst case scenario."

Seth understood immediately. "I get that, I probably would've too. But just so you know, as weird as this all is, this actually makes our treaty even stronger. No wolf can ever harm another's imprint, it's our most sacred law."

It was hard to feel relief from something that involved a certain arrogant mutt and his interest in my daughter. But at least I could strike one worry from my long list. Seth started to peek back towards the house and take steps to go inside. "They should be back in a bit, why don't we wait for them inside? I'm sure Charlie is getting nervous."

"Wait Seth, just one more thing." Bella's face somehow looked paler. "I know, before, you said Jacob wanted nothing to do with us or Renesmee. Does he still feel any animosity towards her? She's safe with him right?"

"Bella, I swear, she's as safe as can be." Edward, hear me loud and clear. "While he's got some feelings to sort out about…" Again with his waving hand motion. "The power of the imprint overpowers all of that. He couldn't be upset at her in the least, even if he tried."

With that assurance, we all headed back inside, working to keep ourselves calm in front of Charlie and Sue.
