Resident Evil x Monster Hunter: Realities Collide

PLOT: On their way to Las Vegas, Alice and Claire Redfield's convoy is swept up in a storm that transports them to the New World. They encounter Captain Natalie Artemis, a version of Alice from another reality. Umbrella has opened a portal to the New World in the hopes of capturing Artemis, planning to use her for further experimentation with the T-virus. Now, Artemis must join Alice and her friends to close the portal between worlds before the T-virus starts another apocalypse.

TIMELINE: AU, takes place during Resident Evil: Extinction, but after the events of Monster Hunter

CHARACTERS: RE – Alice, Claire, Carlos, and the convoy; MH – Artemis, the Hunter, the Admiral

SHIPS: Alice/Carlos, Artemis/Claire (establishing femslash)

GENRE: Adventure/Action, Fantasy; Secondarily Romance with LGBTQ themes

RATING: T, for language and some suggestive themes

NOTES: I loved Monster Hunter and thought it'd pair nicely with Resident Evil. The story plays in both worlds, starting in the New World and then moving to Alice's reality. I took some liberties, and I did include some LGBTQ themes, but I hope folks enjoy this zany crossover.

Chapter one:

69 miles to Las Vegas, the battered sign said. Alice read it as they passed, only half paying attention to the desert beyond the windows. She flipped through the notebook she found in an abandoned gas station, musing about a haven called Arcadia. K-Mart was silently sleeping on Carlos' shoulder as he drove. Alice stole a few glances at Carlos, as she'd read words about living people—loving people. It was nice to think such things still existed in the middle of an apocalypse.

Carlos had caught her staring and smiled to himself. They'd only been reunited for a short while, but he liked being near her again. He wanted to ask her more about their time apart, though he wasn't sure she'd answer. For now, the quiet was nice.

Then, he saw something in the distance. Black clouds with streaks of lightning were swirling like a sandstorm. He glanced over at Alice. "Have you ever seen a storm like that?"

"No. I haven't," Alice answered. It was nothing like the storm they had just had a few nights before. In fact, it was unlike any storm she had seen in her life. It was stretching out before them for miles on either side. "We need to get out of here."

Carlos hopped on the radio. "Claire, that storm isn't going anywhere. We should turn the convoy around."

"Everyone, turn around now!" Claire's voice boomed on the radio.

It was difficult for so many vehicles to make an abrupt U-turn, but they were going to try. They spun on the old highway and in the sand of the desert. K-Mart woke with a start as their truck harshly spun. Alice watched in the side mirror as they tried to drive away, yet the storm wasn't slowing. It seemed to be picking up speed.

"We're not going to make it," Alice said quietly.

The storm continued advancing until it was on top of the convoy. In a flash, the vehicles were lost in the black clouds. Lightning streaked around them as their vehicles entered into a free fall. Where had that come from? There were no cliffs or holes in the road when they were travelling towards Vegas, but now they were tumbling downward at an alarming rate.

"Hold on!" Carlos shouted.

Their truck connected harshly with the ground. White sand poured in through the broken windows, and the trio was knocked around the cab. They landed in a jumble of each other, bruised but mostly unharmed. Alice quickly crawled through the window closest to her. She staggered to her feet, met with an unfamiliar landscape.

Carlos and K-Mart followed Alice out. The other vehicles of the convoy were strewn about the expansive desert. Carlos and Alice hurried to check on the survivors. Claire had a cut on her forehead, but she was otherwise unharmed. Claire checked on her people, finding that they had only lost one in the crash. Everyone else had suffered minor injuries.

"What the hell was that?" L.J. asked as he and Chase cleared the tanker truck.

Chase looked at the tanker truck, tipping his hat back on his head. "Well, she's down for the count. There's no lifting her now. Not even with the winch and every truck we got."

"See what vehicles we can get up and running," Claire declared.

Luckily, the other vehicles had landed on their wheels or could easily be tipped upright with a little work. K-Mart joined Claire, Alice, and Carlos as a group worked to get the Hummer onto its wheels again. She pointed at a mountain ridge in the distance, one that had a tower. The storm was circling it. "What is that?"

"We didn't pass it before," Carlos said.

Alice looked around and shook her head. "We're not in Nevada anymore. That storm did something to us. It took us somewhere."

"How is that possible?" Carlos asked.

"I don't know, but just look at where we are. Nothing about this is right," Alice returned.

Claire pushed her sunglasses to the bridge of her nose, sighing. This was the last thing they needed. "We need to figure out where we are, and we need to do it fast. I promised these people we'd resupply and get to Alaska."

"I say we set up a camp here, and we can send out a scout team," Carlos said.

Alice agreed. "Some of us can move ahead. See if we can't figure out where we've landed."

"Okay," Claire said as a plan formed. "Chase, set up an observation point somewhere on the higher ground. I don't see any undead around here right now, but that can change. L.J. can take the lower ground. Mikey, get me some radios. I want you to stay here with the convoy. I'm going with Carlos and Alice to see if we can figure out where we are. We'll stay in touch."

"No can do. The lightning has wrecked the radios," Mikey replied.

Clarie grumbled. "Of course it did. We'll just have to go without them. If we aren't back by sunrise, I want you to start moving without us."

"Moving where?" Chase asked.

"Anywhere. The undead don't wait long," Claire returned.

"We aren't leaving without you," Mikey argued.

Alice spoke up. "If we haven't turned up by sunrise, that means we're probably already dead anyway."

"Alice is right," Carlos seconded. He patted Mikey on the shoulder and left to retrieve weapons from the convoy. "But don't sweat it. We'll be back."

The Hummer was back on its wheels, and the engine was still operational. Alice, Carlos, and Claire got inside and drove towards the mountains. For a good while, they saw nothing but sand and rock. Alice happened to look in the side mirror, which was when she saw a great deal of sand shifting behind them. She poked her head through the broken window and looked back. They were being followed—by something under the sand.

"Carlos, something is behind us," Alice said.

Carlos looked in the mirror. "I don't see it."

"It's under the sand, and it's getting closer," Alice answered. It picked up speed, and for a moment she saw massive horns break the surface. "Faster, Carlos."

Carlos pressed on the gas pedal. The creature kept pace. Alice knew there was no outrunning it. She turned around and made sure her seatbelt was secure. Claire got the idea and braced herself against the dash. Just as she held the dash, the vehicle was hit from beneath by a huge force. They were slung upwards and rolled across the sand several times over.

When the vehicle finally stopped flipping, Alice unbuckled and left the car to see what they were up against. Carlos and Claire joined her outside. A second later, the monster came up from beneath the sand. It had armor plating, multiple horns, and it looked seriously pissed off. When it reared back, it was the size of a building.

"Dorothy…I don't think we're in Kansas anymore…" Carlos dryly commented.

"What the fuck is that?" Claire asked.

Alice readied her gun. "Whatever it is, I don't think it's happy we're here."

The Diablos ran towards Alice, Carlos, and Claire. They opened fire, but the bullets didn't make a dent. Carlos and Claire looked over at Alice. Alice slung her weapon and merely shouted, "Run!"

They turned and started running from the monster, though they knew there was no way to outrun a creature that kept up with their vehicle. Alice was trying to think of a solution, some way to defeat the giant beast, but her mind was drawing a blank.

When it seemed that hope was lost, a large shadow passed overhead. They looked up to see a wooden ship, not unlike pirate ships they'd seen in the movies. It was traveling on the sand as if it was made of water. A single shadowy figure was swinging on a rope from this ship. The figure leapt off the ship, wielding the largest sword any of them had ever seen. This figure landed on the back of the Diablos, sending their sword directly into the monster's head.

The monster slowed and began to stumble. The figure shoved the sword all the way down, straight into its brain. Within moments, the monster collapsed on the sand, dead. Alice, Carlos, and Claire had stopped running. They stared at the dead beast in awe. The figure yanked the sword free and leapt to the sand.

"Diablos. Very nasty," a familiar voice spoke. The figure approached, and suddenly Alice could make out her face. It was Alice's face, looking back at her. However, this Alice was wearing armor and had her brown hair pulled back in a messy bun. She looked at Alice, Carlos, and Claire with a great deal of concern. "You're not supposed to be here."

"No shit," Claire retorted.

Alice looked at her double, confused by absolutely everything that was happening. "What's going on here?"

"I was hoping you'd tell me," Captain Natalie Artemis returned.
