It started as any other day in the Feudal era; a brisk, dewy morning campfire breakfast with Sango and Miroku's amiable company, and Shippo's screams as Inuyasha got his revenge on Shippo's teasing. Teasing that Kagome found entertaining and (truthful), and happy that someone had said what she wanted to, as she never liked when Inuyasha ran off to see Kikyo. And with it happening more often than not, she had been wondering to herself what she meant to him.

Lately, Kagome has been wanting time away from Inuyasha, in hopes that he would come to his sense's and acknowledge that he needs her for more than just a jewel finder. For a while, she's been feeling nothing but a jewel finder to him - as he leaves to get what he wants elsewhere. Does Inuyasha think that's the only reason I come back time and time again? To hunt down jewel shards for him? Kagome thought to herself angerly as she bit into her instant ramen. I can't believe he was gone all night just to come back and ask what's for breakfast. The nerve of him!

It was Sango who had talked to Kagome while making a fire and boiling water for ramen, bonding over unreasonable men. It was her that brought up Kagome's studies, and how she realized Kagome has been coming back more often, with less time in between. Sango suspected Kagome's feelings towards Inuyasha for a while and pitied the girl – for she knew how it feels loving someone who has other intentions.

Kagome spoke up once breakfast was over, announcing to the group that she'll be going home for some needed rest.

"What do you mean you're leaving? We're getting so close to finishing the Shikon jewel. The more we find, the less Naraku has!" Inuyasha argued, taken aback by Kagome's sudden departure.

"It's time to take a little break from demon fighting. I, for one, would love a spa day that's a week long. And Kagome needs to focus on her studies and spend time with her family. I'm sure they miss her dearly." Sango spoke up, dismissing the irritated half-demon.

"The girls are right, Inuyasha. You can't blame her for taking a break, when you took a break last night," Miroku spoke up this time, slurping down the last noodles in his cup.

"What's that supposed to mean, Miroku?!" Inuyasha yelled in embarrassment, making a fist in the air as if to hit Miroku over the head.

"It means however you took it," Miroku simply said with a sly smirk.

"However I take it? What do you mean by that, Monk?!" he growled.

Shippo jumped in this time, getting hyped up that Inuyasha was getting picked on. "Inuyasha, you dirty dog. Why can't you see what is in front of you?"

"All I see in front of me are people who won't stop badgering me!" Inuyasha yelled, not realizing the hurt on Kagome's face.

She wanted to speak up as she did all the other times Inuyasha hurt her feelings, but she didn't have the mental strength this time. After being up most of the night thinking of Inuyasha being with Kikyo, jealousy running through her veins like molten lava, she realized she was done feeling this way. It hurt more than a physical wound, and Inuyasha seemed to not care. So, she began to pack up while the group turned on Inuyasha, sticking up for Kagome's part in the discussion.

It wasn't until Kagome had her hefty bag on her shoulders and sat on her bike, that Inuyasha looked at her for the first time this morning. "Kagome," he began in a soft tone, a tone Kagome mistaken as apologetic. "I'll give you a few days before-" "SIT!" Kagome screamed in fury. She peddled hard against the gravity of the hill before Inuyasha had the time to get up from the ground.

For a time, Kagome leisurely let her mind and body go and let the brisk wind blow away her problems. For in this very second, she was just a woman that was enjoying her alone time in the peacefulness of the morning. Birds sang around her, feeling the songs of peace go through her like a melody for life. It would only take her an hour to get home, short enough for Kagome to take her time, before getting home to the modern world.

Alas, quiet time was great for a time, but once a mind has been too quiet with nothing to distract from, Kagome's thoughts wandered back to Inuyasha and Kikyo. Jealousy pinged at her heart, making her eyes sting with water. She knew the relationship she had with Inuyasha was different than what Inuyasha had with Kikyo. They had loved each other, and if wasn't for Naraku, she believed they would still be together. Or if Inuyasha used the Jewel to be human, Inuyasha wouldn't be alive now. And Kagome wouldn't be there collecting shards with him. Were their three lives really connected between each other? If betrayal didn't happen, none of them would be here.

Kagome let out a sign of grievance. What happens when the Jewel is finished? Would the group still travel? Would they break apart as their lives took them on different paths? Will Inuyasha use the wish to be with Kikyo in some way? Would Kagome be left in the background of their lives? She knew Sango and Mirko loved her, but just as any friend's lives change, it doesn't always include other people. And no matter what, she would always come back for Shippo. But as he ages and changes, would Shippo always come back for Kagome?

Kagome hit the breaks on her bike, stopping by a river that reflected the sun like a mirror. She wiped her eyes dry with the back of her hands and told herself to stop thinking that everyone would leave her. That's when she noticed a dark presence coming from the direction of the Bone Eaters well. As she began to concentrate, she felt another presence in the same direction. Not as dark as the other, but equally cold. Is there a fight happening by the well? What else will happen this morning? She complained to herself. She would have to either sneak by them or go a few miles out of her way to get to the village (Kiade) was at and wait for the fight to stop.

A scream escaped the forest and rang in Kagome's ear. She stiffened, knowing she needed to help whoever was on the end of that terrified scream. She dropped her bag off her shoulders and ran straight to the conflict in the forest. She cursed herself for not having brought her bow and arrows, and wondered how she would fight a demon with her bare hands.

It was only one scream she had heard, hoping against the odds that the person was still alive, Kagome struggled to get through low hanging branches, and vines at her ankles tripping her. As a clearing opened up in the woods, Kagome saw the two demons she felt the presence of, fighting each other. It seemed they were almost equally matched in speed and strength, and as she got closer to the clearing, she recognized one of the demons.

Sesshomaru was on the receiving side of the other demons' attacks, pushing Sesshomaru closer towards the only thing that'll take her home. Kagome started to panic as Sesshomaru dodged attack after attack, letting the demons' blasts of power hit the ground beside the well. Kagome ran in the woods trying to stay concealed as to not bring any attention her way and made for the well. If I can just jump in real fast… I'd rather be stuck at home than here!

Sesshomaru defended the attacks from the other demon, trying to keep an eye on the well that Rin had fallen into. He knew by the thud her body made as she hit the wells ground, that it was deep enough to cause bones to break on impact. He was worried and distracted enough to not notice an attack coming from behind. He didn't know how or when, but the demon had separated themselves, perhaps even before the fight began, and pierced a blade through his chest. It glistened with his blood as Sesshoaru looked down, the green blade created with poisonous oils was beautifully crafted, a shame it belonged to that demon. And a shame it would be the end of Sesshomaru.

The thought of Rins body being broken, laying on the well's floor, gave him enough strength to counter the attack once the blade retracted from his body. In the time it took to blink, Sesshomaru whipped around and swung Bakusaiga at the opposing demon. The sword cut through the body like a hot blade through butter.

Kagome, terrified at seeing the two formidable demons fighting, realized the concern on Sesshomaru's face as he glanced over at the well. The scream I heard earlier... could it have been Rin? She looked around, concerned when she only found Jaken hiding behind a tree, with no Rin in sight. She watched as Sesshomaru struggled to stay standing, she could see the pain on his face as he was forced to kneel down and gather his breath, not letting the sight of the original demon disappear from his view.

He needs help! Kagome, acting on the only idea she had at the time, ran over to Jaken, who squealed in surprise when Kagome grabbed him by his head and chucked him towards the battle. "Help him!" Kagome yelled, as she threw Nintojo right after, accidentally hitting Jaken on the head.

Hoping it was enough distraction for the demon, Kagome ran beside the well as Jaken's hysterical voice released a fire attack at the opposing demon. She gave Sesshomaru a short glance, who glared at her through pained eyes. Her suspicion was right when she looked down the well. Rin lay motionless on the bottom, one arm folded under her in a broken matter.

Jaken was sent into a tree, breaking the small trunk in half by the force he was thrown. Kagome had to think of something quick, or everyone will die here. She glanced back at Sesshomaru, who had began standing to black an attack from the other demon. He was sent back towards the well in his weakened state, landing on his back next to Kagome. Once again, Sesshomaru began to stand as he sent his powerful whip out to try to stop the oncoming attack. His breathing was uneven as blood spittled out of his mouth.

He's going to drown in his own blood if he doesn't stop fighting. Kagome's fear reached deep into her soul as her hand began to tingle. She could feel her power rage from deep within, and without knowing what she was doing, reached out and used her Miko powers to purify the blasted demon away.

It didn't kill the demon, but it gave her enough time to do without thinking, take Sesshomaru by the Mokomoko and dragged him into the well with her.
