Chapter 2
The familiar blue light engulfed the trio before Kagome softly landed on the bottom of the well. She could hear the rasps of painful breaths from Sesshomaru as he knelt down, his hand reaching out for Rin, too scared he would hurt her if he touched her. He knew he was losing too much blood; he could feel the cold settling in his bones, the poison running through his veins. He yelled at himself for going out this way, for a low-life demon to get the best of him. All because he became fond of a human. But he couldn't blame Rin. Never Rin. He let this weakness in, enjoying and cherishing it more than he thought he ever could.
Kagome felt horrible for what she was about to ask, but she didn't know any other way. "I can help her, but I need help getting the both of you out of this well… Are you able to jump out with Rin?"
Sesshomaru glared at Kagome for undermining his abilities but kept his mouth tight in a thin line. He then remembered the power that had come from her hand and wondered just what sort of powers she had. Is she thinking of fighting this demon herself? That's when the new world around him hit his nose. Every smell was new to him, with most of them burning his nostrils in disgust. He heard screeching and honking before he heard the songs of birds, and he found he couldn't find the presence of the demon he fought, or Jaken and Ah-Un. As he gathered Rin's almost lifeless body in his arms and as he stood up, he saw an enclosing above the well, instead of bright skies and clouds. This place.. isn't the same.
Kagome noticed the grimace of pain on Sesshomaru's face before he jumped, wondering to herself just how bad his wounds were. Obviously, getting stabbed through the chest would kill any human. But from what she has seen with fighting along-side Inuyasha, it takes a lot to kill a demon, full-fledged or not. What happens if she cannot save him? A more worrisome thought was her not being able to save Rin. She may be suffering from more than just a broken arm, and she won't know how bad it is before she gets to the hospital.
As Kagome hoisted herself over the well's ledge, she discovered Sesshomaru lying unconscious on the ground, with Rin close by. His white kimono was stained red with blood, which seeped through the fabric like thick syrup, pooling beneath him. The well house was beginning to reek of a bittersweet, coppery stench.
Kagome took a deep breath in. Taking care of a dying demon wasn't in her plan books for a week off from Inuyasha. Let alone, the demon being Inuyasha's malicious brother. But then again, how evil can he be with a little girl following him? She asked herself as she gathered Rin's broken body in her arms and hurried out the well house.
Ms. Higurashi hummed a tune of a song she remembered from her childhood, a tune she hummed when Kagome was a baby, as well as Souta. She now hummed the tune to the child Kagome brought her, waiting for the ambulance she had called, hoping the child in her arms would make it.
It took the combined strength of Kagome and her little brother Souta, to carry the demon lord closer to the house. They set him in the yard, close enough to the light for Kagome to revaluate him. She ran into the house and grabbed her mother's first-aid suitcase and ran back to Sesshomaru, dragging the luggage behind her. Souta had removed the Mokomoko and was failing at detaching his armor when Kagome arrived with the first-aid kit.
"I think it fastens in place somewhere…" Kagome knelt down and removed the yellow heko-obi around Sesshomaru's waist, looking for notches that might detach. She found nothing, only seams that wielded together. "Well, Souta. We'll have to try to slide it off him, and if that doesn't work, hopefully we can cut it off of him."
Souta, after taking him in for the first time since Kagome got back, was covered in splotches of blood from Sesshomaru, his eyes seemed strained and worried from seeing so much so young. She took a second to check herself and realized she too was covered in the sticky red life source. A kid shouldn't be seeing this, she thought to herself, saddened by the thought of putting her little brother through this.
"Souta, why don't you get changed and run a bath. I'm going to want some tea after all said is done, so why don't you boil up some water as well," Kagome ordered as she took in the situation at hand.
"But… don't you need help? This is a whole lot for one person," Souta's eyes were pinned on Sesshomaru as he spoke.
"Nope," Kagome said as she grasped onto the armor around his shoulders and wrestled the armor off of Sesshomaru, yanking and heaving on it as she struggled to pull it over his shoulders. "Now hurry up with the bath, I'm taking one rather or not you're done with yours!" She yelped the second the armor gave free, landing on her backside as she got splattered from the blood settling in his breast plate. She froze for a second, feeling the disgust run up and down her spine. She fought the urge to run up the stairs and take a bath right this moment. If she absolutely knew Sesshomaru wouldn't die… She pushed the thought aside, knowing by the end of this, she would be covered in even more blood.
Souta took a second to look back at his defeated sister, wishing that he could help more than he did. He also knew that if Kagome where to see him following her orders, she would yell at him even louder this time. As he made his way through the living room, red lights flickered across the walls. Souta looked out the window and saw his mother enter the ambulance with the little girl. It's just me and Kagome for a while now… I better hurry with that tea. Souta thought as he raced to the bathroom.
As Kagome cleaned the blood around the wound, she noticed the blood had thickened and wasn't draining as thinly. It should heal soon, and he can leave when he wakes up… However, she noticed yellowing around the wound as well, knowing from the pit of her stomach that Sesshomaru wasn't in a good state.
She cleaned the wound with hydrogen peroxide and polysporin before placing a clean pad of gauze over the wound. She repeated the process with the wound on his back and wrapped gauze around his chest to further protect from infections.
"So.. who is he?" Souta wondered and asked his sister after he had helped her get the Demon Lord onto the bed in her room.
Kagome stole a peek of herself in her bedroom mirror. How grotesque she looked, wishing dearly she was soaking in hot water right now. "I'll tell you over hot tea. Have you even started that yet?" she asked glaring at her younger brother through the mirror.
A terror-stricken "right on it!" came out as Souta turned and ran down the stairs to boil water.
What a long day… Kagome thought as she sunk herself into hot steamy heaven. Her muscles began to soften and relax as her mind drifted aimlessly. Not as aimlessly as she wanted, for her thoughts always went back to Inuyasha. Why is it so hard for him to tell me his true feelings? If he doesn't like me, why doesn't he tell me? And if he does like me… but he loves Kikyo. Maybe it's just that I remind him of Kikyo… Kagome could feel the tears stinging her eyes and made herself shut down her thoughts. It will be what it will be.
She knew one of the things to make herself feel better, and it was downstairs being made by her sweet little brother. After soaking for a bit longer, Kagome got out of her bathtub, dried off and put on the comfiest of pajamas before checking on the demon in her bed. For the first time, she saw a peaceful side of him as he slept – possibly the only way she will ever see him peaceful. He looked like Inuyasha, but mostly he did not resemble him. They had the same nose, Kagome finally noticed, and realized that was about it. If Kagome didn't know any better, she would confess that Sesshomaru was a bit prettier than his half-brother.
The hot tea and story time with Souta made Kagome feel at home and safe again. Her mother called to announce the little girl will be fine and will stay at the hospital for the night. Giving Souta the night to be free and watch late cartoons with his big sis, a rarity that he enjoyed.
Where am I? Where is Rin? Sesshomaru let out a coarse cough as he glanced around the room. It smells like her… His memories hit him just as fast as the scent did, recalling the injured Rin and being dragged down a well by that woman. Where did that well send us?
It was dark and quiet in the room, with a whisper of a child's laughter coming from outside the room and down a ways. As he laid on the bed, he concentrated on the world around him; hearing enigmatic noises in the far distance, perplexed and clamorous as they were to Sesshomaru, they piqued his curiosity. What is this world? Surly I haven't died.
He could feel the pull of unconsciousness creeping through him. For now, he would let the darkness take him in. For now, he would see how this world would suit him.
A/N- I will definitely try updating more frequently. I got busy with birthday things, vet things, and now a new puppy thing. Twice a month will be the goal. Enjoy!
