Mermaid Of The Huntsclan Chapter 11

Adding a Nix to the mixer at the dance can be a real kick in the gut.

Especially since it's the first time in a long while that someone has had a good night out.

The Nix roars, opening her jaws wide and begins to suck the souls belonging to those students nearby into her body for sustenance.

Even Rose isn't excluded from this nightmare.

Mirana ducks and covers behind an upturned table, contents spilled on the floor, using it as a shield.

Watching the Nix run wild like this has Mirana thinking that maybe she should be doing something to stop it. But if she does then she risks exposure for her presence in New York City, leaving her stomach tied in tightly clenched knots.

As she's weighing the positives and negatives of bringing down the Nix herself Jake takes the decision out of her hands.

Morphing into his dragon form Jake engages the Nix head on.

Mirana is left to watch the show from the sidelines.

Observing the confrontation Mirana can tell that Jake still hasn't gotten the hang of his dragon powers yet. He should've been easily able to handle this, but the Nix gets the upper hand on him plenty of times. Although she's got to admire his creativity. He even uses the records on the DJ station as weapons. As soon as he runs out Jake is in a heap of trouble, stuck on the ropes.

Thankfully Fu Dog and Grandfather show up with a potion that'll take the Nix out of the equation. Unfortunately for Jake, he utilizes it in the wrong way. You see the potion renders whoever touches it powerless and Jake stupidly ends up drinking it, thinking it is some kind of strengthening solution. Seconds later after he drinks it Jake reverts into his human form powerless instead of the other way around. Jake looks to his Grandfather for further assistance, but, turns out, the old man ends up getting his soul sucked up by the Nix along with everyone else's.

Jake bravely attempts to continue fighting the Nix in human form but it's all for nothing. It's futile without his dragon abilities because he's no match for her this way.

It's not until Fu Dog says offhandedly that he stinks that Jake gets an idea.

Tearing off the potion to counteract his bad breath, Jake breathes heavily in Nix's face. So she gets his awful dragon breath in full force.

Surprisingly this does the trick.

Unorthodox yet ethical in this situation.

The Nix can't stand the unbearable stench.

Coughing and retching from it the Nix involuntarily releases Jake from her tail's grip. Falling backward, clutching her throat, onto the floor. Every single soul she consumed here at the school escapes from her body, returning to their rightful owners.

Following this the students and chaperoning teachers return to themselves, not recalling a thing that happened.

Without the souls to energize her the Nix changes into her own human form at the same time.

Fu Dog and Grandfather grab the nix and take her out of the gym, saying they are going to keep her hidden at the shop until sunrise so that the danger can pass without anyone else getting caught in the crossfire.

Many students awaken from their trance bemused and angered to find themselves dancing with opposite people than before.

On the stage, Jake tries to get the party back on track again with a new record. Only without the potion to stop it, Jake's putrid-smelling breath makes many within range yell angrily at him.

Looks like the dance is over for Jake. No one wants to be around him when he's like this.

All except for Jake that is.

Glad to find she doesn't have to lift a finger after all, taking pity on Jake, Mirana decides it's time for them to leave. She uses an excuse saying it's getting late so she has to go home.

Like a gentleman, Jake agrees to walk her part of the way since she insists on walking the rest of the way on her own.

Jake's coat draped around her shoulders, Mirana said "I had a good time tonight, Jake. Thanks for asking me to go with you. It's been a while since I've done something like that. It was an honor to be asked out on a date by the American Dragon."

"You're welcome. I'm sorry it was cut short like that," said Jake, apologetically.

Shaking her head with conviction, Mirana said "Don't be. Neither of us expected a Nix to show up. So that wasn't something you could control. By the way, you seem pretty new at this. How long have you had your powers?"

Ruffling his hair in nervous sheepishness, Jake said "Just recently actually. My Grandpa is my teacher. He's a good one, but I keep messing up."

Mirana can understand where he's coming from. She was the exact same way the first time she turned into a mermaid.

"Don't worry. Just give it time. I know you'll get the hang of it," said Mirana, kissing his cheek gently.

Jake's face turns redder than any of his scales.

Picking a random street to stop at so Jake doesn't have a clue where she lives Mirana hands him back his coat and heads off, telling him that her "house" is not that far down.

Gathering his courage as he watched her walk away, Jake said "Hey-."

"If you ever want to contact me again then look for me at the Magus Bazaar. I'm there all the time," said Mirana.

"Cool. I'll see you around then," said Jake, eagerly.

"I'll see you around," agreed Mirana, laughing softly at how excited he was about the prospect.

Both of them separate with a new lightness to their steps.

This night ended better than either of them thought.

And there's plenty more to come.

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
