"That went better than I expected," Spencer said once he had joined his family for lunch the next day.
"But not the way you hoped it would," Bellamy said knowingly.
"No, it didn't," Spencer admitted seeing no reason to lie, as neither Dave nor Bella would believe him if he said it had gone the way he wanted it to. "I wish she had accepted just like you did Bella. On the other hand, I understand why she needs time to think. It doesn't help that her upbringing wasn't exactly a bed of roses just like mine wasn't."
"The difference is that both her parents apparently weren't really parental figures to her while at least you had your mother. That Emily has apparently turned out so well despite negligible parental influence says a lot about how intelligent she is. That she didn't find some sort of trouble, because she was bored says a lot about her, considering her lack of parental influence in her life," Dave said.
"Children are easy to bore if they aren't active enough, as Dave and I know that from our own children, though some aren't as active as others of course," Bellamy added agreeing with Dave, which wasn't really a surprise.
"True enough," Spencer agreed. "Still, I wish she had accepted it right away, even if I understand why she didn't."
"Don't give up hope. Give Emily at least a week or two to think and if she doesn't contact you within a couple of months then maybe she's decided not to continue your relationship," advised Bellamy.
"She did promise to let me know either way, so that's something at least," Spencer said, trying to look on the bright side.
"Uncle Spencer, why are you sad?" asked Lizbet who had been eating her lunch, not paying attention to the adult conversation until that moment.
How did you explain to a nine-year-old what was going on? Spencer briefly wondered. Lizbet was intelligent, but Spencer knew he was still going to have to put it in simple terms for her to understand.
"I'm sad because Emily has not is accepted my proposal," Spencer said.
"Why not?" Lizbet wanted to know.
"Because it would mean making a life-changing decision," Spencer said. "She just needed time to think about it and I'm hopeful that she'll decide in my favor."
Lizbet listened seeming to consider his words, seriously seeming more thoughtful than any nine-year-old should be. Then again, both her parents were very intelligent and so were all her siblings so really it meant that Lizbet was also going to be very intelligent, even if she was still a child right now.
"I'm sure she will," Lizbeth said naïvely. She didn't fully understand what she was being told, even though Spencer had tried his best to use simple phrases for the child's benefit. "I'm sure she loves you as much as I do Uncle Spencer. Anyone who doesn't isn't worth knowing."
"Well, out of the mouths of babes," Bellamy said in amusement distracting her daughter efficiently by picking her up and sitting her on her lap. Lizbet leaned against her mother's chest and her eyes immediately drooped.
"That's really quite wise, sweetie," Spencer said praying that Emily really did love him as much as Lizbeth believed she did. Maybe she did really just need time to think of all the pros and cons at least that was what Spencer hoped.
Soon lunch was over and Spencer took his leave.
"Thank you for lunch Dave," Spencer said.
"You're more than welcome, son," Dave said, even as he patted Spencer on the back in a friendly manner. "You let us know what happens, but I have no doubt that Emily will make the right decision in the end if you just give her time."
"I'm praying you're right," Spencer told Dave before walking out of the restaurant and getting in his car.
"I am," Dave said almost to himself once Spencer was out of earshot.
Dave didn't tell his wife what he was thinking, and that was he was hoping that Emily didn't leave Spencer worrying himself to death and in emotional agony as he was in limbo until Emily decided one way or the other.
Dave really hoped that Emily made her decision soon.

~~~Spencer and Emily~~~
Four days later
Spencer spent as much time as he could with his godchildren as well as Dave and Bellamy, mostly as a distraction in order to stop himself from dwelling on his mate, who he still hadn't heard from and it had been over 96 hours, which wasn't very long really. It just seemed like it had been much longer than it really was and all because Emily had not contacted him in the last four days.
Logically, Spencer knew that Emily was constantly thinking about what she had been told, as she wouldn't be able to help herself and that he needed to give her a chance to absorb all she had learned. He didn't need to pester her as that would make her decision just take longer and was more likely to be a no instead of the yes he wanted.
Spencer was just getting ready for the day and had just shaved off his bristles when there was a knock on his hotel room door.
Spencer opened the door, thinking it was probably Dave or Bellamy or maybe one of the employees from the hotel who wanted to talk to him for some reason but outside was the last person he had expected to see, but had been wishing to see for the last four days, his mate Emily Prentiss.
"Emily, I thought you were probably Dave or maybe Bellamy," Spencer said keeping his tone as neutral as he could manage. He hated to hope that Emily had finally reached a decision. Logically, he knew that if it was a denial, she could've called him for that and didn't need to come see him,
"Can I come in?" Emily asked.
"Of course," Spencer agreed, as he moved away from the door.
Once Emily was inside, Spencer shut and locked the door behind her.
"What can I do for you?" Spencer asked was he and Emily had sat down in the little sitting area that was part of his hotel suite.
"You told me to contact you once I'd made a decision one way or the other," Emily reminded him, as she sat in one of the comfortable chairs that were part of the sitting area while Spencer sat on the couch directly across from her.
"Well, yes, but a link call would have been easier, especially if your answer was a no, as that way we wouldn't have been in physical touching distance," Spencer told her. "I'm trying very hard not to beg you to decide in my favor as I don't want to force you to."
"Are you done?" Emily asked with amusement in the depth of her brown eyes as well as in her expression.
"For now," Spencer said falling silent, waiting for Emily to speak again wanting so badly to take her into his arms to love her and cherish her for the rest of their lives, but he knew that it was Emily's decision not his, so he simply waited as patiently as possible.
Usually, he had a ton of patience, but this situation was very important to him so patience was much harder than normal.
"I know you realize that I've been thinking constantly over over the last four days," Emily said. "I was very distracted at work and Dan asked me what the problem was and I just fobbed him off saying I had a lot on my mind, which happened to be the truth, just not the whole truth."
"I knew you had probably been thinking about what you learned constantly as I know how I constantly dwelled on the information I was given by Dave more decades ago then I care to recall as thinking about my actual age makes me feel old, and I suppose, technically I am, I just don't look it," Spencer nearly babbled he was so nervous as to what Emily's answer was going to be.
Spencer stopped himself when he realized he was babbling, looking embarrassed, and Emily simply looked amused.
"Well, I have finally absorbed what you told me and also showed me," Emily said. "You know my background, so you know what a hard decision this was going be for me. If there's one thing I fear it's getting into a relationship that is just like my parents."
This was a hard thing for Emily to admit Spencer knew, as he had come to know her over the proceeding months.
"I don't blame you really," Spencer said. "Even if I am immortal because of Dave, doesn't mean I don't understand where you're coming from. I have often wished over the years that my father had been more like David Rossi once we met, but unfortunately, William Reid was the man I share DNA with."
"I would think he would be happy to have such an intelligent child that might have followed in his footsteps one day," Emily said and Spencer nodded sadly.
"You would think so, but I believe he was actually jealous that was more intelligent than him and understood concepts that he didn't until he was much older," Spencer said, shaking his head. "My father doesn't matter anymore, as he's been dead for a very long time while I am alive, proving him wrong about his predictions for me every day. All I know is, I will never name a son, William, or any version of the name as my father dead or not does it deserve the honor of having a child named after him. I hope he realized his mistakes before he died otherwise, I'm sure he's in hell now, and while, I'm glad I got away from him I would not wish that kind of fate on anyone not even him."
"I think that's very generous considering what he did to you and your mother," Emily said.
"I had to learn to forgive him, as I didn't need that festering wound on my conscious, considering I'm immortal now it took a lot of introspection and soul searching to accomplish that," Spencer said. "Still, I felt a lot better after I forgave my father for his abandonment of me and my mother and also refusing to pay alimony and yes, that was a thing even in my time, even if men often got away without paying it back then."
"They get away with it today too," Emily suggested.
"But not as often as they did back then as women have rights now and can take a man to court over it if they have to," Spencer said.
"True enough," Emily admitted. "As to my decision about whether or not to accept your offer, my answer is yes. I realized after the last four days of soul-searching that I would be miserable without you. You're certainly more reasonable, generous, kind, and compassionate, then either of my parents ever was. You don't start pointless arguments like they often did, which is something I could never abide for long. Luckily, for me, you're not like either one of my parents, which is just one of many things I love about you."
"You mean it?" Spencer asked, jumping out of his chair and striding across the room to pull Emily to her feet so he could hug her breathless. The bone crushing hug was followed by a passionate kiss on the lips once Emily nodded in conformation, being unable to speak because of the pure joy and happiness on Spencer's face.
Her decision meant the world to this gentle man she had fallen in love with. She had realized quite quickly that she would be miserable without him. He had somehow snuck past all her defenses and stolen her heart, and she hadn't even realized it, not until she had spent the last four days contemplating his offer.
"I want to keep my job at least for right now," Emily said and Spencer nodded perfectly happy with that decision.
"That's fine, though you'll have to retire at some point," Spencer said, "but that is for the future not right at the moment. Dave and Bellamy will be in ecstatic and happy to welcome you to the family officially."
"We can discuss the details later," Emily said, as she kissed Spencer, this time, thrusting her tongue in between his lips, which he accepted eagerly, and they only broke apart because they both needed to breathe.
"You've made me the happiest man in the world," Spencer told Emily hugging her gently this time instead of tightly.
"You've made me happy too, and I never imagined I would actually find someone to love to have those children I want."
"We can talk about that later, but I want children too, but not until after we're married," Spencer said. "I didn't when I was younger, but that was a long time ago when my father was still alive. I just never thought I'd find a woman to accept me for myself, but now I have you. You are a miracle that I will love, honor and cherish you for the rest of our very long lives."
"Why do I have a feeling you're going to spoil me?" Emily said smiling.
"Because you're very perceptive and intelligent," Spencer suggested with a smile in his voice. "I promised to contact Dave and Bellamy after I heard from you, so I need to do that, but after that we have things to do if you're willing. This time without a condom."
"Sounds like a great idea. I'm more than willing for you to start the process of turning me immortal though thanks for giving me the time to think I appreciate it," Emily said eagerly, and Spencer smiled again, even as he kissed her one more time on the lips.
"It was my pleasure, even if it was hard on me personally to wait for you to reach your decision on your own. Believe me, I've been distracting myself by spending time with my godchildren as well as Dave and Bellamy, but that's only good during the day and at night it's different. I haven't been sleeping well, as I kept dreaming of you and you telling me that you didn't want to continue our relationship, that you didn't love me like I loved you," Spencer said not telling the real Emily that her dreams self had been quite rude and nasty in her rejection. Spencer had a immediately realized that it was only his own insecurities that were making him dream of Emily nastily rejecting him, but that didn't mean it had stung, even if it hadn't been real. "It's just my subconscious coming up with the worst possible scenarios and it's not like I could stop it unless I didn't sleep at all over the last three days. Let's just say I haven't been sleeping well because of them and leave it at that," Spencer explained before going to contact Dave and Bellamy to tell them the good news.
Things had worked down splendidly, and for once Dr. Spencer Reid was happy and content with his life and he knew he always would be with Emily and any children they had. Spencer knew that his father in every way, but DNA along with his mate would spoil his and Emily's children rotten and he wouldn't mind that at all.
Life was very good indeed, and Spencer knew that this was a new beginning for him as with his mate Emily by his side he was very happy with his life and knew that he always would be from now until forever.
