Author's note: Did I mention my goal was 1 million words in a year? I almost waited to post until the 22nd. There is a lot going to happen, not all bad, not all good. As the story grows, is it too cumbersome? Should I "end" this one and start another like I did with my first story? Also, this one may be short. My computer keeps shutting down so I can only redo the same paragraph so many times before I go crazy.
(Taylor)
Taylor wanted to be home with Kate. It was tense and miserable, but he could energy away from her so that she didn't blow anything up. He had stopped feeling the powerful surges and figured that she was mostly sulking at that point. He felt bad for her but also for John. Dean was able to swoop in and comfort her, even if she didn't always acknowledge him. John was stuck. He made a hard decision and had to stand by it but didn't want Kate to slip too far away.
"Is everyone going to the away game?" Hailey asked.
"Oh, probably not everyone," Taylor said. He hadn't asked. He didn't want to stress anyone out more than they already were.
Hailey held her hand out for him to hold and walked beside him as they made their way to class. As always, she was bubbly. She didn't have a lot to stress out about. She did well in school although her math grade wasn't as good as she wanted it to be. She knew Taylor aced every test. "Do you think you could help me with math?"
"Sure." Taylor said. "We could work on that after school, before practice, if you wanted."
That was exactly what Hailey wanted. She liked that Taylor wasn't pushy. They hadn't been dating very long but she didn't feel like he had a one track mind. She hoped it stayed that way.
Taylor checked on Kate but got nothing in return. There was just silence. He sighed and pulled his social studies book out of his backpack. He'd just go through the motions and hope that everything worked out. A silver lining of being in different schools meant that no one asked him why Kate was not in school.
(Bobby's house)
Dean opened Kate's door and cracked his knuckles. It was day 5 of silence and he was tired of it. He pulled Kate to sit up and put her over his shoulder. "We are going outside."
"I don't want to." Kate grumbled.
"Too bad. You've had your time to sulk and be angry. Now, you are going to move around and eat things before you shrivel up and fade away."
"Maybe I want to fade away" Kate said.
Dean opened the front door. "Kid, you are in a bad place to be making those comments." He patted the back of her thigh.
Kate groaned and wobbled when he put her on her feet. "I don't need to eat."
"You do." Dean said.
"No, obviously I'm not dead." Kate said.
"You aren't okay either. We are going to go for a walk." Dean said.
Kate sat down on the steps. "I don't want to."
"I didn't ask." Dean said, pulling her up by her arm. "You are going to talk as well."
Kate whined. "Just leave me alone."
"No." Dean said. "I will tie a rope to you and drag you if I have to. While we are walking, we are going to talk about dad. Don't get upset. I know you are pissed off. I have had a few groundings that made me want to blow up and those don't compare to this. I agree with him but you need to get some stuff off of your chest. So, while we are walking, you can say absolutely anything and I will not repeat it. Hell, you can say what you want about me and I'll let you. No matter what you say, there will be no repercussions."
"If I confess something will there be?" Kate asked.
Dean narrowed his eyes. "Do you need to?"
Kate scoffed. "No, I was clarifying your terms before I go into the woods with you."
"If it is something you have already done, I may talk to you but you won't get into trouble. Deal?" Dean asked.
Kate's body hurt. "Deal." She really did just want to go back inside. She would have insisted if her body wasn't so stiff. She felt about how she had when she woke up from a coma.
Dean walked slowly, giving her muscles time to get used to moving around again. He got to the tree line and looked at her. "Well, start talking."
"I don't know what you want me to say. Obviously, I'm angry." Kate said.
"That is a start. What happened with the blue fire and stuff?" Dean asked.
"It just came through my skin. I don't know how to explain it." Kate said.
Dean nodded. "Dad didn't tell me what happened between you two, besides that he banned you from hunting."
"I snapped, he whipped me, he left, I got upset again and boom." Kate said.
Dean chewed his cheek. "Did he try to calm you down before he left?"
"I don't know. Maybe. I didn't want him to calm me down." Kate said.
"Say what is on your mind." Dean reminded her.
"It isn't fair. I can do good for ages and the smallest thing erases it all. We don't have time to take the slow route with this. We need solutions. I shouldn't have put my fingers in the cage but it was just blood." Kate said.
"Think about those visions where we sold our souls," Dean said. "What if dad had ignored you and he and Sam still didn't get along? Would you be afraid that Jess would be in danger and that we would still sell our souls?"
"Yeah," Kate said, apprehensively.
"What if I had been the one trying to feed blood to the freak?" Dean asked.
"That is different. You don't heal and we have no reason to think your blood would do anything but make it attack." Kate said.
"We don't know anything for sure but seeing you with your hand in the cage was like seeing that hell hound tear into your leg," Dean said.
Kate frowned. "I'm sorry."
"You and I are good now. I made my point. No one thinks you are going to snap right back to being best buddies with dad but you can't keep sulking. I was tasked with getting through to you. After today, dad isn't going to put up with sass and backchat."
Kate fake whined. "Those are my two main forms of communication."
"Then learn a third. I won't put up with much either." Dean said.
"I thought this walk was meant for me to get things off my chest," Kate said.
"Spill," Dean said.
Kate crossed her arms. "No, you ruined the moment."
Dean chuckled and put his arm around her shoulders. "Why are you such a pain in the ass?"
"I think it is the last name," Kate said.
Dean raised an eyebrow. "Taylor isn't being a pain in the ass right now."
Kate rolled her eyes. "You can't compare me and golden boy. Our family proves that he is part Campbell. I'm part Winchester."
"I want to be in the room when you use that excuse on dad." Dean said.
Kate shrugged his arm off of her shoulders. "I don't think I'm calm enough to talk to him."
"You are. You can apologize for blowing up and promise to behave." Dean said.
"Yuck." Kate said.
"You'll be fine. He will give you space."
"Do you think he really doesn't have abilities?" Kate asked.
"He has abilities that he gained from being a Marine and stuff," Dean said. "I don't think he has supernatural abilities."
"He's kind of freaky at times," Kate said.
"Maybe, things are different with him because of a connection somewhere. Millie's eyes glow and she doesn't get injured by you. She doesn't have abilities though."
"That you know of." Kate said with a giggle.
"Damn cat."
(Sam and Jess)
Jess was slightly sleep deprived but didn't care. The kitten was getting stronger every day. They learned that it was a boy and named him Milo. He was white with gray paws, ears, and tail. He liked being held and cried loudly when he wasn't.
Sam figured out that he could turn his hoodie backward and carry Milo around in the hood. Jess had been in such good spirits since they found the little guy.
Jess took Milo to class with her and he was quite the gentleman. He stayed quiet and liked to listen to the lectures. Jess was never allowed to have a cat growing up. She had a horse but it stayed at a stable. Cats and dogs were filthy and Martha hated them. Milo wasn't filthy. He was sweet and cuddly.
Sam felt off that day. It wasn't the first time. He had a lifetime of training and felt like he was being watched. It had to be demons. It was always demons. He warned Jess and told her to be extra careful. Kate had made them a stamp set too so he placed stamps around campus, hoping to ward off stray demons. He kept a log of anything that seemed remotely fishy and fixed the window that Dean climbed through. It was exhausting. He wanted to focus on school but he was focused on keeping his girlfriend from getting hurt by demons. What if it wasn't demons? It could be any type of creature but demons had the most beef with his family. Vamps could be out during the day. They didn't burst into flames, but they were sensitive to sunlight. So were most gingers. One could be blending in, easily.
Jess felt bad for Sam. She felt like he wouldn't be as worried if she wasn't a target. She was worried too but knew Sam could handle himself. She couldn't. Even if it wasn't a creature, she guessed it could be a regular bad person. She had a good bit of money stashed away from Martha's belongings and her dad did have some shady acquaintances. It all felt like a bad movie script.
Sam was good at backup plans. He hadn't spoken to Jess about it yet, because he wanted to figure a few things out first. If Stanford remained a hot spot for demon activity where would they go? After Jess left for school that morning, with Milo tucked into her shirt, he made some phone calls.
(Caleb's house)
Owen and Andy were sitting on the top bunk of Andy's bed. Jody had to work late and Sean had things to do, so Owen got to go to Andy's house after school.
Ian was not happy to be left on the floor while the older boys played.
Andy thought that Ian needed a friend because he chose the top bunk so that Ian wouldn't climb on him. Tired of Ian's whining, he decided to move the transformer battle outside. He would just get Ian to play with Riot instead of messing up the battle.
Riot had grown and was no longer a little puppy. He was in the awkward preteen stage but was growing more protective of the boys.
Andy gave Ian a ball and told him to play with the dog. He turned his back and lined up the transformers to battle Owen's transformer army. That went well for a few minutes but Ian wanted to play too. Andy gave him two transformers but was annoyed that Ian kept knocking them all down. He had used his patience with Jimmy and didn't have much left over for Ian. He tried his best though.
April checked on the boys before making an after school snack. She planned to bring Ian inside once she was done. He was still doing well at his program and they rarely had complaints. She knew he was bored at home.
Andy went up to his tree house to get a break. He leaned back against one of the branches and took a deep breath. He let his eyes wander and landed on Jimmy's back yard. He narrowed his eyes. Stupid Jimmy. Jimmy made a face and that made him mad. He tried to ignore it but Jimmy was obviously trying to be mean. He had enough and flipped him off.
April walked out of the house at just the right time. "Andrew Ethan, what do you think you are doing?"
Andy gasped and quickly dropped from the tree.
"Who were you doing that to?" April asked.
Andy sighed. "Jimmy."
April had the boys go inside and swatted Andy once. "You know better than that."
Andy wanted to be angry at his mom but that would end badly. He had so much built up in his head and just stared at her. He swallowed hard and chose to run off to his room instead of argue.
April sighed heavily and gave Ian his snack.
Owen didn't want Andy to be in trouble. "Ms. April. It was just a finger. He didn't even cuss at him."
April shook her head. "It is something I don't want him to do."
"Jimmy was making faces and has been annoying all day. Please don't be mad at Andy." Owen pleaded.
April gave him a snack as well. "I'll go talk to him." She found Andy laying on his bed, sniffling into his pillow. She sat down and put a hand on his back. "Was Jimmy mean again today?"
Andy shrugged.
"Owen said that he was."
Andy shrugged again.
"I don't want you to flip people off. However, I only swatted you once for it." April said. "What did Jimmy do today?"
Andy gave her the short version and sat up with his pillow in his lap.
April was angry at Jimmy. She was angry that his parents hadn't stopped him. "I'm going to call your dad."
Andy followed her back to the kitchen and ate his snack. He didn't know what his dad would do. Jimmy didn't care about anyone, except for maybe Kate. He could call her. What would she do though? She could mess with his head.
Caleb was fed up. He would put a stop to it once he was done with work.
April decided to take the boys to the park by Owen's house. They would be able to get away from Jimmy and have fun before Sean picked Owen up. Ian even found a three year old to follow around. She chatted with the boy's mom and watched her own boys play happily. "He turned two September 8."
The other mom was a little surprised since her son was only slightly taller. "He's going to be a big kid."
April smiled. That was a sense of pride for her since she was so malnourished when she was breastfeeding him. That didn't phase him. He was happy, healthy, and tall.
Owen and Andy played for a half hour before Owen grabbed Andy and pointed. Of course, Jimmy chose to go to the park too.
Andy looked around for Jimmy's mom but didn't see her. He groaned and went to the far side of the park to play on the tires with Owen.
April didn't even see Jimmy walking to the park. There was a slide right in her line of sight. She gave Ian another snack and refilled his cup at the water fountain. She asked Andy and Owen if they needed anything and they said no.
When Jimmy approached the tires, the boys decided to go to the monkey bars instead. He couldn't bother them if they avoided him.
Andy was a pro at the monkey bars. He could even skip bars if he swung hard enough. He was behind Owen, following him across the bars when he felt someone grab his pants leg. He was trying not to fall and realized Jimmy was tugging his pants down. Stupid kids did that at school to embarrass people. He told Jimmy to stop. Jimmy didn't.
April ran over when she heard someone cry. She looked from Jimmy to Andy and noticed Jimmy's face had a bit of blood on it. She tried to figure out what happened but Jimmy sounded like he was actively being murdered. She and the other mom were the only ones there and she needed help fast. Caleb was too far away. She called Dean to see if he could help and used a tissue to get Jimmy's nose to stop bleeding.
Dean got to the park with Kate in a questionable amount of time and ran over to help April.
Kate got Jimmy to hush and checked his nose. It wasn't broken but he'd have two black eyes. She assumed he deserved it.
Dean had the boys go with Kate to the car and helped April with Jimmy.
Jimmy claimed that he was trying to get on the monkey bars and Andy kicked him in the face.
April called Jimmy's mom and got her to come down to the park to get him. She was angry and yelling at April, instantly took Jimmy's side and was ready to call the cops by the time she arrived.
Dean got the true story out of Andy and Owen and returned to the 'crime scene' with Andy. He had Andy show them the red marks on his hip to prove that his pants had gotten yanked more than once. "Jimmy followed them down here to try to pull his pants down. Andy kicked him to get him to go away."
Kate shot Jimmy a warning look. She probably wouldn't kick his butt but she wanted to. She got him to tell the truth by compelling him and was satisfied with the dumb look on his mom's face.
Dean got a closer look at Jimmy's face and told them that he would be fine.
Andy was in tears by the time that Jimmy and his mom left the park. He was queasy too.
April checked on Owen and Ian and turned back to Andy. She wiped a tear away. "Hey, don't cry. I know you didn't do anything wrong."
Andy stepped away from her and threw up his snack. His face was white and he was shaky.
Kate looked him over and saw that he was protecting his arm. "Does your arm hurt?"
Andy nodded.
Dean stood up quickly, as if to see if Jimmy was still around. The little shit caused Andy to break his arm. He'd happily do jail time.
Kate felt of Andy's arm. He must have fallen on his elbow when he fell from the bars. She asked April if she wanted it to be fixed or if she wanted to wait so they could use it against Jimmy.
Andy didn't want her to heal it. "A cast is a good weapon."
Dean made a zipping motion across his mouth. "Don't use the 'w' word. Your dad will hear you."
Andy sniffled pitifully.
Kate pulled the pain away. "Does that help?"
April let Sean know what was going on and let Dean and Kate take Ian. She drove Andy to the urgent care and had them do x rays. Kate might have been able to heal it but Owen was there and Jimmy's mom may cause issues. Andy was a trooper, even when the pain returned. They gave him the good pain meds to reset the bones and he was a tad loopy when they left.
Caleb was pissed. He stopped by Jimmy's first and didn't bother being nice about the situation. He told them that Andy's arm was broken and reminded them how messed up it was to try to pull someone's pants down. He'd be talking to Jody and the school to put a stop to Jimmy's antics.
Andy got taken back to Bobby's house and soaked up the attention. He got ice cream and pie and even a few pieces of candy from Karen's stash.
Dean was enjoying drugged Andy. He was silly and said things that would make his parents blush. Of course, as the pseudo uncle, Dean was going to make the most of it.
Caleb drove over there as well and checked on Andy. "How are you feeling?"
Andy smiled. "I kicked him in the face."
Caleb sighed. "You did."
Dean cracked his knuckles. "I'm trying to decide how much jail time I'd get for popping someone else's kid. "
Kate eyed him. "I wouldn't get any jail time? I can make it look like an accident."
Ian was concerned for Andy and patted his cast.
"We could just sic Ian on him." Bobby said. He made a growling noise so that Ian would as well.
Caleb picked Ian up. "We don't want to maim him."
April let Andy rest his head on her bump. She could feel Lauren wiggling around, likely confused about why her space was being squished. She felt so bad for Andy but was proud of him for just kicking Jimmy. He could have done more but didn't.
(Taylor)
Taylor was happy that John was picking him up from practice. He needed to know if anyone was going to the game.
John already had plans for that. "I was going to go. Dean may stay with Kate though."
"That is okay. I can't have all the attention." Taylor said with a grin.
John snorted. "Looks like you've gotten enough attention."
Taylor's eyes flew open.
John motioned to Taylor's mouth.
Taylor flipped the visor mirror down and groaned. He roughly wiped his mouth. "That's not... it wasn't.."
"Either you have taken up cross dressing or got a kiss." John said.
Taylor flipped the visor back up and flopped back in the seat. "It was just a quick one."
John couldn't help but crack up. "Son, you're 14."
"We didn't make out or anything. I wouldn't do that." Taylor assured him. He was nervous holding her hand. The kiss on the mouth had caught him off guard.
"You might be able to slip by Dean. That Jimmy kid caused Andy to break his arm so they are all focused on him."
Taylor sighed. "I'm not going to be a player like him."
"I didn't say you were. That doesn't mean he wont give you hell about it."
"I'm trying to be respectful and go slow. She is the one doing all of this." Taylor said.
"You could tell her not to." John said.
Taylor scoffed. "I will not."
John raised an eyebrow. "Do you need the birds and bees talk?"
Taylor looked horrified. "No! Dad, we are 14."
John shook his head. "You have the common sense of a 14 year old too."
"We won't be doing that any time soon." Taylor said.
John smiled. "Good."
(Bobby's house)
Kate had an awkward conversation with John when he got home. She was still frustrated but cleared the air between them.
John accepted that and told her she had a clean slate.
Andy fell asleep and Caleb had to carry him to the truck.
John was just as annoyed as everyone else. "They had to set his arm?"
"Yes." April said. "He was so brave. We didn't know it was broken until he almost passed out when Jimmy left."
John told her to let Andy know he thought that was very brave and that he hoped he felt better soon.
Kate was still moody but the ordeal with Andy got her mind off of her own woes. Luis was Taylor's bully. Natasha was Kate's. Jimmy was Andy's. What was it with them and annoying kids? Natasha redeemed herself though. Kate had spoken to her twice since she visited her. Natasha was doing well on her meds and apologized both times they spoke. She didn't think Jimmy would learn as quickly. He needed to be kicked in his smug face more than once. She cleared her throat. "What ever happened to Luis?"
Taylor turned around. "Where did that come from?"
"You know how my brain works." Kate said. That was explanation enough for the journey that her mind took to settle on Luis.
"No idea. He changed schools last time I heard." Taylor said.
"You two cannot get rid of Jimmy." John said.
Kate smirked. "I'm following enough rules. Surely that is one too many."
"Andy has a full cast now. He can knock him out if he runs his mouth." Dean said.
John cleaned his gun. "Add not making kids disappear to that list. The police would suspect you because you threatened him. Me... however..."
"Would you ever hurt a kid?" Taylor asked.
"No. Not a human one." John said.
Kate rolled her eyes. "See, you and I aren't fully human. That's a technicality."
John's eyes twinkled. She was almost back to normal. "I wouldn't ever truly hurt you. Bust your butt, you bet."
"You can't compare those." Dean said. "Sam and I are absolutely human."
"Well, Taylor and I share blood with you guys. Technically, you may not be 100 percent human." Kate said.
"I am human." Dean said. "I didn't get the extra pazazz from our angel buddies." He went upstairs to get a shower and stopped at the top of the steps to extend his fist to Millie. He snorted softly when Millie reached up to touch his fist with her paw. He quickly looked around to make sure no one had witnessed it and continued to the bathroom. He was grateful that Kate's loveable sass was back. He saw the muscle in John's jaw stop twitching as he relaxed. Neither of them thought that she was truly back to normal.
Kate was tired although he had been in bed for a few days. She called it an early night so that she could rest but also so that she didn't use the wrong kind of sass and make John mad.
Liam and Millie both ran to the window and dove behind the curtain to meow at the veil's tear.
Kate looked outside. "What are you looking at?" She didn't see anything. She scratched both of their ears and raised the blinds so that they didn't break them. She looked outside and watched the setting sun for a little while before laying down. She patted her bed and smiled when Millie ran over to lay on her. "Did you find moths outside?" She had no way of knowing what they were really looking at. "Thanks for hanging out with me." She looked up when Dean tapped on the door.
"Are you going to bed?" Dean asked.
"Yeah." Kate said with a yawn.
"I'm glad you're back." Dean said.
Kate gave him a small smile. "Me too."
(Two days later)
Taylor packed his bag with his football gear. He could have taken the bus with some of the other players, but he couldn't pass up riding with John.
John didn't mind the drive either. Taylor still needed a lot of his approval. Kate being Dean's shadow made things a little easier. She needed him too, but Taylor needed him more.
"I have a question." Taylor said.
"Shoot." John said, drinking the rest of his coffee.
"I was serious about not doing anything right now. I really like Hailey, but I respect her too. I was fine with the kiss but how do I tell her that..." Taylor couldn't form the words.
"You can be blunt about it. I don't know her but I don't think she would be wanting that right now, but you could also make a comment about the guys teasing you about wanting to wait until marriage." John said.
Taylor looked up at him. "That was very... Dean-like advice."
"It is good advice though." John said. "I think it is good that you want to wait. Maybe you don't want to wait until marriage, but religion is still normal around here. If you make a claim like that, not many people will think twice."
Kate wanted to say goodbye to Taylor. "Have fun. Don't lose."
Taylor jabbed her. "I will have fun. Don't do anything stupid."
Kate scoffed. "I need at least 7 to 10 business days to regain my will to do something stupid."
John raised an eyebrow. "We are in that window now."
Kate gave him a sheepish grin. "7 to 10 weeks?"
John just grumbled and told her to be good. He gave her a side hug and tilted his head to tell Taylor it was time to go.
Dean nudged Kate. "You just love jumping around on thin ice."
Kate spun on one of her socked feet. "I'm clearly ice skating."
(Andy)
Andy was already tired of the cast. He did get a lot of people that wanted to sign it though. He also had stickers. No one cared about Jimmy's face. That made him happy. He was afraid that he was going to get into big trouble, but it sounded like the adults had worked it out.
The adults did, indeed, work it out. Caleb threatened to press charges since Jimmy had gone so far out of his way to cause trouble. It helped that he was also found that far away from his house without an adult. He reminded Andy at least four times that he was not angry at him. Andy did what he should have done. He could have kicked Jimmy in the chest but the nose was a good place too.
April dropped Ian off at his program and went to the doctor for a routine checkup. She was hoping to get more scans of Lauren. She could not wait to see her sweet face. 25 weeks down. 15 to go. She was sad that Caleb wouldn't be able to go but he got to go to all of the big appointments. During the ultrasound, she anxiously watched the tech's face for any sign of worry. She tried not to be emotional, but she was scared.
The tech pointed to the screen. "You have a thumb sucker."
April let a few tears fall. Lauren was clearly sucking on her thumb. She was amazed by how clear the image was. Elizabeth didn't get any photos of Andy and April for sure didn't get any when she was pregnant with Ian. Lauren was shy, hiding her gender from the ultrasound tech. Ian would probably have been very different. They knew she was a girl and didn't need the tech to confirm it again. She tried to see certain features that Lauren may get from Caleb or from her. The image wasn't clear enough for that. She walked out of the appointment with a sweet image of Lauren's face and thumb sucking, as well as the cutest set of feet April had ever laid eyes on.
Andy got through an entire school day with no issues from Jimmy. He was in a great mood because it was Friday, and his dad would be off for the weekend. He got his spelling test back from the teacher and got all of the words right, including the bonus words. Nothing was going to rain on that day.
Caleb was able to leave work early and pick Andy up. The grin on Andy's face warmed his heart. He got out of the truck and caught Andy in a hug, mindful of his broken arm. "How was your day?"
Andy jumped into the truck. "Jimmy didn't talk to me and I got a perfect score. Look!"
Caleb looked at the spelling test and high fived Andy. "This can go on the refrigerator." He drove to pick Ian up and spied momentarily to see how Ian played with the other kids. He cleared his throat and chuckled when Ian ditched the kid he was playing for and ran to him. Both of his boys had good days.
April excitedly showed Caleb the images and hugged him. She grabbed his hand and placed it on her stomach.
Caleb felt Lauren's foot thump his hand and grinned.
Andy had no interest in feeling her kick. He was grossed out when Ian did it. "This is a good day. Ice cream would make it better."
Caleb laughed. "Then let's go get ice cream."
(Kate)
Kate spent the day trying to feel normal again. She was anxious to hear about Taylor's game. She napped earlier in the day and had strange visions. She kept seeing her family, but they weren't quite her family. They looked the same, but John was harsh. Sam was moody. Dean was kind of still Dean. She worried that she had messed up the timeline. She would never forgive herself if she did that. They were happy. She woke up and checked the time. She had plenty of time to find something to do before bedtime. She opted for another walk.
Millie was chattering at the window again. She wrapped her tail around Kate's ankle and meowed loudly.
Kate picked her up. "What do you see with those big eyes?"
Millie made another noise and wiggled from Kate's arms.
Kate looked up at the window from the driveway. She saw the slightest glint as the breeze filtered through the trees. "Spiderweb?" She shrugged and stretched her legs. "Dean?"
"What?" Dean asked.
"Do you want to walk with me?" Kate asked.
Dean nodded. He mindlessly bent to fist bump Millie again and slowly stood up when Kate gasped. "You saw nothing."
Kate grinned. "Did you teach her that?"
Dean scoffed. "No. You saw nothing." He walked quickly away from the house.
Kate ran after him. "You have a secret handshake!"
Dean stopped walking. "You keep this between us, or I tell dad you were disobeying orders."
Kate's mouth fell open. "You wouldn't."
Dean raised an eyebrow. "I would. Who is he going to believe?"
"He has photos of you cuddling her." Kate said.
Dean's nose flared. "He showed you those?"
Kate laughed. "No but now I know he has them!" She ran by him to dodge him.
Dean picked up the pace. She was too damn smart for her own good.
