LORD OF THE CARDS V2

prologue

A seven year old harry was sleeping in his 'room' under the stairs. As he was asleep, he was tossing and turning, even hissing like a snake. There was the sound of a door slamming open, and the quiet of the entire home was shattered. "BOY~!" an obnoxiously loud male voice yelled. Harry startled awake, when the door to his 'room' was forced open and he was roughly grabbed and thrown into a wall. "You freak, you cost me my promotion with your freaky abilities. Time to be punished," the grown man said, before he grabbed an old wooden bat and started to beat harry with it.

Harry whimpered a bit, but he did all he could to keep from screaming out in pain. After the man hit a particularly sensitive area, from his last beating, that was when harry screamed in pain. The man froze, before he saw red. He started to beat on harry harder, all while yelling out, "WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT SCREAMING, YOU USELESS WASTE OF SPACE?!" he yelled at harry.

The beating lasted for about ten minutes. It would have gone longer, but the old bat broke, leaving a lot of splinters in harry's back. "You better have learned your place, you freak," the man growled. He then had an idea. "Freak, in the morning, you are coming with us on vacation," he stated. "Yes, sir, uncle vernon," harry gasped out.

The man, vernon, scoffed before he grabbed harry and threw him back under the stairs and shut the door, before he went to get something to eat. As he laid there, harry prayed. "Please, whoever is listening, please get me away from those animals, to a better life. Family should not treat me like they do. They are not my family. Please, get me out of here," harry prayed before he went to sleep. Unknown to all, a device in a certain office simply stopped working.

However, since the office was full of noisy trinkets, it would not be noticed for a good long while. After harry went to sleep, again, the splinters were pushed out of his back, so his injuries could heal. In the morning, harry managed to get out of his 'room' and stand by the front door. Vernon and the other two approached, to which vernon snorted. "Good, freak. You can follow simple orders. Get in the car, we're leaving," vernon said.

"Yes, sir," harry said dully, as he went to the car and got in. the three others then got in the car, and vernon drove to the airport. Hours later, they were in america. While exploring, harry managed to purchase a deck of cards, to keep himself entertained. "Freak, what are you doing?" vernon asked. "A card game i heard of, sir, called 'solitaire'," harry responded, as he focused on his game. "Hmph, don't be freaky, and you can keep doing that," vernon allowed.

A few days later

The tow children of the group were asleep. The large one was snoring, while harry was quiet, his deck of cards clenched tightly in his hand. Vernon was awake with his wife. "My dear petunia, i finally found a way to get rid of the freak for good," vernon said darkly. "What way is it?" petunia asked, just as darkly. She never wanted to raise her freak of a nephew, who was just as freaky as her sister. "Simple, my dear. I take him somewhere, whack him over the head with something incredibly hard, killing the freak, at best. Then i dump the body in a remote area that'll be hard for the body to be found," vernon explained his plan, with a smirk. Petunia smirked, as well. "That is a good plan, vernon. Please do it. I will explain to dudley what you will be doing, should you take too long" petunia said.

Vernon kissed his wife, went to harry and picked him up. "Best do it, while everyone is still asleep," vernon said. Vernon then carried his nephew like a sack of potatoes to the car, where he drove off. After driving around the city for a bit, he found a secluded spot perfect for the plan. He dragged harry out of the car and dropped him to the ground. It was now that harry was beginning to wake up, albeit slowly.

Vernon searched for a bit, and found something perfect for the plan: an aluminum baseball bat that was still in good condition. He grabbed the baseball bat and made his way over to his nephew, who was beginning to sit up. Once harry was sitting up, vernon whacked harry on the back of his head with the bat. After harry collapsed, vernon whacked him two more times in the head, before he put the bat back where he found it, a large puddle of blood forming under harry's head.

He then took out some bandages and wrapped them around harry's head, put him in his car, then drove to an orphanage. After vernon put harry on the step of the orphanage, he got back in the car and drove off. He smirked as he drove off, not looking back.

Vernon got back to the hotel and went to the room his family was in. petunia looked at him hopefully, while dudley was still asleep. "Well, vernon? Is the freak gone?" she asked hopefully. Vernon kissed her, before he answered. "Yes, petunia. The freak is gone for good," he said joyously. So, the dursley family continued their vacation, without the freak, before they went back home, to enjoy their lives without the freak.

Hours later, dawn

A somewhat elderly woman in a nun outfit opened the door to put milk bottles out on the step, when she jumped. After she put the bottles on the step, she quickly picked harry up as best she could and carried him to the orphanage infirmary, where she put him on the bed, before putting him under the covers. She cupped his cheek, a look of worry on her face.

A few days later

Harry woke up, groaning, as he held his head. He felt dry flaky stuff on his hand. When he pulled his hand away, he saw that there was dried blood on his hand. "Where did that come from?" he asked himself, before he looked around. "For that matter, where is here and how did i get here?" he asked out loud.

He felt something in his clenched hand. He opened his hand, and saw a deck of cards. "Huh, why do i have playing cards?" he asked himself. He tried to remember, but he had a startling realization, which showed on his face as a look of confusion. "Wh-who am i?" he asked aloud. (*an: at this point, until he gets a new name, i will still call him harry, as it'll be easier for me, and probably you readers)

Harry noticed that he was in a bed, under some sheets. Absently, he noticed that it was comfortable. The woman walked in, when she noticed that harry was sitting up. "Oh, you're finally awake, little one," she said kindly, getting his attention.

"Who are you?" harry asked. "I am the matron, dear boy, and this is my orphanage" the woman, the matron answered. "I see. You already answered my second question, so i will ask my third question: do you know who i am?" harry asked.

"Do you think that you could put it better?" the matron asked. "I have no memories of who i am. Do you know who i am?" harry tried to clarify. "I see. You have amnesia, then," the matron said sadly. Harry tilted his head to the side a bit in confusion. "What is amnesia?" he asked. "Amnesia is where one loses all memories of who they were in life. Though, in a good number of cases, they do retain basic information. However, they draw a blank as to who they were," the matron explained.

"I see. I suppose i have amnesia, then," harry said thoughtfully. "I can think of two reasons for you to be on the doorstep to my orphanage,"
The matron said, getting harry's attention. The first is that you stumbled around after you lost your memories, before you collapsed on my doorstep," she said. "What's the second?" harry asked fearfully. "That you were abandoned here by someone," she said sadly. Harry looked at the bed in sadness. "I see," he said.

The matron walked over to his side, knelt and put her hand on his shoulder. Harry jumped a bit at the contact, though he didn't know why. "It'll be ok, child. Even if you were abandoned, someone will want you to be their family," the matron said kindly.

"Ok, then," harry said." The matron stood up, before she gently turned harry's head to look at the back of his head, before she started to unwrap the bandages. "What are you doing?" harry asked. "Though it was bandaged before you arrived, you were bleeding somewhat heavily on my doorstep. So, i need to check the damage," she answered, finishing unwrapping the bandages, before she felt around the back of his head.

She saw and felt that is was now somewhat healed. "Huh, this is weird," she said, before she wrapped fresh bandages around harry's head. "What's weird?" harry asked. "The wound on the back of your head, i suspect that it is the cause for your amnesia, looks like it is already somewhat healed, despite finding you just this morning," the matron said. "That IS weird," harry admitted.

The matron finished wrapping harry's head in bandages. "How would you like to meet the other children here?" she asked kindly. "Ok," harry got out of the bed. The matron held out her hand, and harry nervously took it.

So, the matron walked out the infirmary, with harry holding her hand. "The other children are normally out back around this time, so you picked the perfect time to wake up," she said. Now that he was about to meet other children, harry felt nervous, though he didn't know why, and it showed, when he tightened his grip on the matron's hand.

She felt his hand tighten on hers, so she stopped walking. Harry did as well. The matron knelt next to him, and harry looked at her. "I know that you are probably scared, even if you don't know the reasons, but you need to meet other people your age," the matron said.

"But what i was an awful kid?" harry asked fearfully. "Then your amnesia can be a good thing, you can start fresh, as it were," the matron said. Harry calmed down, after the matron said that. "Are you ready to meet the other children?" she asked.

Harry nodded a bit.

Smiling reassuringly, she led him out back, to meet the other children. Once out back, she called for the other children to gather in front of her. Once they did so, she put a hand on harry's head, bringing their attention to him, making him nervous again. "We have a new resident with us. Remember, he has amnesia, so please be kind and patient with him," the matron said. "Ok," most of the children agreed. However, life was not going to be easy for him, here at the orphanage.

"Have a good time," she said to harry, before she went inside to do her paperwork, as she had put it off long enough. Harry timidly looked at the kids in front of him and felt really nervous. The children looked at him, and simply went about what they were before, leaving harry alone.

Seeing a tree, harry simply went to it and sat under it, and brought out the cards he had on him. "What am i supposed to do with these?" harry asked himself. Deciding not to do anything, he put the cards back in his pocket, leaned against the tree and went to sleep.
