In the years that followed, Loki and his family continued to thrive.
Fredrik did take the throne of Jotunheim, 15 years after his initial thought. He spent much time there learning from Laufey and other council members, and gradually moved to make the transition easier.
During his time in Jotunheim, he met a lady of the court named Lilija. They became fast friends and fell in love easily. They were married 2 years after Fredrik moved from Asgard permanently. Their wedding was a huge celebration because no royal wedding had officially taken place since Laufey and Farbauti's. (At least considering that Loki and Asta's was done in secret).
The coronation of Fredrik Lokison was one of legend. Both kingdoms provided as much as possible to celebrate the renewal of Jotunheim and the bright future ahead, both as its own realm and with its new alliance with Asgard. Jewels from the former queens Farbauti and Frigga's own collections were used in Fredrik's crown.
King Fredrik was known as fair and noble king, his gift of intuition often aiding him in navigating his path in rebuilding the Jotun realm. Queen Lilija was lovingly by his side the entire time and many saw the similarities of a young Laufey and Farbauti.
They had 3 beautiful children: a daughter named Fjola Astrid, named so because of her striking violet eyes (those very similar to her mother's) and a combination of her grandmothers' names, and twin boys named Loki Anthony and Thor Laufey, after the men that helped Fredrik become the leader he would constantly strive to be.
Just over 75 years after Fredrik took the throne, Kaia became the queen of Asgard. Before that, she married her childhood friend and sweetheart named Havard. Loki and Asta couldn't help but see their own relationship mirrored as the pair continued to grow together and fall in love. Loki would joke that since Havard meant "high protector" then he would certainly be tasked with making sure no harm came to the princess (and later queen). Havard took his role seriously from a very young age!
When it came time for Kaia to take the throne, Loki was certain she was well prepared. He also made her wait long enough that his own rule would be longer than Odin's. A fact that didn't bother Kaia in the least. Her coronation day was a beautiful celebration of the continuing prosperity of Asgard. Her lavender gown had threads of gold and green throughout as a thank you to her parents who had guided her so well on the path to the throne, and her crown was one of her mother's and included ice blue diamonds as a gift from her brother. Her reign was one of peace and continued the success that her father had raised up.
Eventually, Kaia and Havard had 2 lovely children: a son named Stellan Ugagn (a nod to her own peace and her father's mischief) and a daughter named Finna Asta (after her grandmothers).
In the centuries to follow, the kingdoms flourished and both Queen Fjola of Jotunheim and King Stellan of Asgard led well, as did their descendants.
Odin passed away before he would see his grandchildren take either throne, but Frigga was present at both coronations, smiling brightly.
After Jane was given the gift of a goddess longevity, she and Thor lived in Asgard with their children, daughters Mathilde, Lulla, and son Tore.
As for Loki and Asta, their rule of Asgard went on to be the most prosperous reign that the realm had ever seen. As their family on Midgard passed, their time there dwindled, but the peace there never did. Harmony amongst the other realms began to grow as well. And when both of their children had ascended to their thrones, Loki and Asta happily began their retirement and traveled and rested. Loki cheerfully read in the gardens while his beautiful wife attended to her lilies and roses. Asta would work on her new love of painting as Loki would tell wild stories to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
And when Loki finally saw the afterlife, Asta followed him the next day.
End note: A bit shorter than I expected, but it wrapped it all up rather nicely, I think.
Thank you so much for taking this journey with me (and Asta and Loki!)! And many thanks to Olive04green and your much appreciated reivews!
