Chi-Chi woke up in very high spirits that morning. It was a regular day, but she felt really happy. Earth had been at peace for quite some time and life on Mount Paozu couldn't be better. She had an amazing husband and son and…
"You're up already." She gently caressed her growing belly, smiling. "Did you sense there will be food soon?"
Her answer came as an internal kick and she could already say he or she would be quite strong. She wasn't surprised at all though, she was carrying the child of the strongest man of the world after all.
"Alright, baby, let's get to work."
"Hey, Chi-Chi." Goku walked inside their house about an hour later, after spending half of the morning training outside, attracted by the smell of food. "What are you doing?"
"Oh I'm just baking a cake. I really felt like eating one today."
"Is this one of those…" His voice trailed off and he looked at the ceiling with his eyebrows raised, trying to remember the words.
"Desires that pregnant women have? That's right."
"What kind of cake are you making?"
"A chocolate one."
"Ohh that's one of my favorite ones." He pulled a chair and sat down, eager to try it out. "Is it ready? The smell is really good already."
"Not yet." She went to check the cake in the oven. "But it looks delicious. I hope it tastes like that too."
"I'm sure it will. Your food is amazing." He replied with a grin.
"Thank you, Goku." She grinned back at him. "This means a lot."
"You're welcome, honey."
She pulled a chair out and sat down across him, and they chatted happily for the next twenty minutes.
Chi-Chi took the cake out of the oven and placed it on the sink, so it could cool down. Goku spied over her shoulder and couldn't hide his large grin.
"Wow, Chi-Chi, this looks so tasty!" He wiped his drool away with the back of his hand and laughed awkwardly when his stomach growled. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay." She assured him with a soft smile. "I know how you are with food, and I love it. You'll get to eat it very soon."
"I can't wait!" He rubbed his hands together excitedly. "But I don't mind eating it while it's hot."
"Don't touch it!" She slapped his hand slightly when he tried to grab a slice of the cake, which was pretty much a quarter of it, as an attempt to take it away from it. "It's for the picnic."
"Picnic?" He asked with his eyebrows raised. "I didn't know we were going to have one."
"It's something I decided this morning, before you woke up." Chi-Chi replied, looking at him and rubbing her growing belly. "Plus, I think it will be good for Goten to be in touch with nature even before he's born."
"I see. That will be great for him, indeed."
"Gohan, let's go. We want to enjoy some time outside before lunch."
"I'm here, mom." The boy walked in the kitchen almost a minute later. "We can go."
.
The weather outside was very nice. The sun was shining timidly in the sky, but Chi-Chi could tell it was going to change pretty soon.
"Gohan, how about we go fishing before lunch?" Goku suggested with a grin and the boy got all excited for a moment, but then his smile faded and he looked towards her.
"But what about mom? Are we just gonna leave her here?"
"Of course not. We'll take her with us."
"It's alright, I can stay here. You two can go fishing alone and spend some time together by the river."
"No." Goku said firmly, startling her. She looked right into his eyes. "This is a family picnic, so we're all going."
"What about the food?" She glanced down at the white towel spread on the glass, full of bowls. "We can't leave it here unsupervised. An animal can come and eat the whole thing."
"You have a good point." He rubbed his chin, trying to come up with a solution. But his stomach growled again and it was the answer they needed. "I guess fishing will have to wait."
The sun reflecting in the water made it sparkle that warm afternoon. Chi-Chi was sitting against a tree, almost falling asleep, while Goku and Gohan were playing in the river. She was observing them with a wide grin on her lips, while her left hand softly rested on her belly.
"Mom, look, we got a bunch of fish today." Gohan said proudly. "Look."
"That's great, Gohan! I'm proud of you." She lifted her gaze to Goku and smiled. "Of both of you."
"Thank you, Chi-Chi."
"Thanks, mom."
"You're welcome, my boys." Her smile got a little warmer. "How was the water?"
"It was great! You should've really joined us there. You would have loved it."
"I'm sure I would." Chi-Chi looked down at her stomach and gently rubbed it. "But today I just wanted to stay here."
"Is everything okay with the baby?" The boy sat beside her and looked at her belly with worry.
"Everything is fine, don't worry." She reassured him. "He's just a little too agitated right now. I think he enjoys being around nature."
"He?" Gohan asked, not bothering to hide the excitement in his voice. "Is it a boy?"
"We don't know yet, son. It was a figure of speech." She said softly. "Do you want it to be a boy?"
"Yes! I mean, I don't mind it if it's a girl, but it would be nice to have a younger brother."
"What do you think, Goku?"
"I'm with Gohan in this one. I'd love for it to be a boy." Goku sat down beside her, placing his hand over hers. "What about you?"
"I'd love for it to be a girl, but I have a feeling it's going to be another boy. Either way, he'll be loved." She rested her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.
"I'm sure he will be." He said, wrapping an arm around his wife and holding her closer to him.
