"This is the temple, he was caught at?" Evelyn asked. Keres/ Beni nodded. "Surprised it still stands." He sighed. "He may panic seeing you. So perhaps I talk to him first. To let him know you came alone and are not here to hurt him." He added. But Evelyn grabbed him by his arm. "Eh?" He looked at her. "Before we go in. I want to ask you a few things. First. Did you know he would use Alex as a hostage?" She looked him in the eye.
"No, even I was surprised by that. Though, I am certain he never would have hurt the kid. As I said. I am both Beni and Keres right now. Part of Jonathan is also still alive. And Rugnak is many things. But no child killer." Keres stated, as if to reassure her Alex had never been in any danger. "I see. So, part of my brother is still there." She frowned. It would have been so much easier if Jonathan was dead, and Rugnak was merely using his body. Knowing part of her brother was still alive. Meant her brother was most likely suffering. And would die if, and when Rick and Ardith learn how to stop Rugnak.
Sighing, she entered the crumbling temple with Keres, looking around. Jonathan, or. Rugnak looked up from a scroll. Seeming happy to see Keres, then shocked when he saw Evelyn behind Keres. "Relax, she promised she is not here to fight you. She, just wishes to speak with you." Keres replied. Rugnak narrowed his eyes, then looked around, as if expecting Rick and Ardith to also be there. "They didn't come. They do not even know i am here right now." She said, walking up to the man.
He looked too much like Jonathan. To the point he confused her. How much of her brother was still alive in there? She then noticed he had two scrolls. "I see you found the one you needed." She said softly. "Of course. The Magi were not very smart with hiding it. Put the Greek one where I died, and the Egyptian one in hena's sarcophogus." He replied. "Unfortunately. Was never all that great with Egyptian..." He added.
'That is one thing he has in common with Jonathan...' She sighed. She then saw the floor around him had old carvings into it. Strange runes in Greek. She pushed past him and looked at the writing. Brushing her hand over the carvings, she felt a strange sensation overcome her, and the world seemed to fade for a moment.
She closed her eyes, feeling dizzy as she tried to regain her balance. "Eh, she okay?" Keres asked, noticing how she looked. Rugnak knelt down to check her. "Evie?" he asked, no. It was clearly Jonathan talking right now. She looked up at him, seeing the worry on his face. "I am okay. Just felt odd for a moment." She said softly. No, she did not merely feel odd. She saw something. A memory. Of her past life.
The memory was of her arriving at the temple against her father's wishes when she heard Hena had been taken. Closing her eyes, she saw the memory more clearly.
Nefretiti entered the temple, seeing Seti the First and the Magi standing over a body on the floor. Her eyes widened as she felt her heart sink. Rushing over, despite the Magi trying to stop her, she flung herself to the floor grabbing the lifeless body of her sister. Hena laid bloodied and cold on the floor. Her eyes wide, and her hand clenched tightly, holding a white flower. It was clear she had been stabbed to death, and the very weapon used to kill her was sticking out of the ground, having recently carved strange runes into the stone floor.
Evelyn opened her eyes, and looked at her brother. Or, was it Rugnak right now? He still looked worried for her. So, it was hard to say which one was more present at the moment. He opened his mouth to say something, but instead, grabbed his stomach as if in pain. "What's wrong?" Keres asked, worried for his brother. "The curse...it is taking effect." he muttered through gritted teeth. Reminding Evelyn what the other Magi had said. If Rugnak did not unbind himself in time. He would begin to suffer the pain he suffered when he died. Meaning, he would basically suffer being mummified alive all over again.
She gritted her teeth. "If you win. And free yourself. Do you swear...you will not harm anyone? And not curse Egypt?" She asked. She knew this was insane. But, she had to try. Rugnak and Keres looked at her confused. "Of course, I swear I mean no harm. Right Keres?" Rugnak looked at Keres. "No. I do not just want your word. I want Jonathan's. I want to know...he is still there. And strong enough to not give into this curse." She glared, causing Rugnak's smile to fade.
"I swear Evie. You have my word. It is still me here...I won't let any harm come to you or Alex, or even Rick." He said softly. "And, this ritual. Does not need any, sacrifices, or to kill or harm Egypt?" She asked. "Of course ole mum. No human sacrificing needed." He smiled slightly. Wondering why she was asking this. "Give me the scroll." She said, taking him by surprise.
"You cannot read Egyptian very well, right? I can. Give it to me. I will translate it. And help in any way I can. As long as you keep your word. If you break it. I should warn you. Rick is getting Hade's Bident. And will not hesitate to put you back in your grave." She glared, holding her hand out for the scroll. Chuckling softly, Rugnak handed her the scroll. "Are you crazy!? What if she is lying and tears it up. Or, lies about what it says?" Keres yelled. "I trust her. She is a woman of her word." Rugnak replied.
