Rick kept the tip of the Bident aimed at Rugnak's throat. "Don't even think about it." He glared. Rugnak sighed. Seemingly bored. "Why did you do it? And why need to sacrifice someone? Can't you just be happy breaking the curse without gaining your powers?" Evelyn asked.
"You mean, why did I kill Hena? Simple. I didn't. I loved her far too much to ever hurt her. And she loved me. That night. We were going to run away together." Rugnak explained. Taking them all by surprise. "We were to meet in the temple to run away. Keres already had a boat ready for us. Hena had smuggled gold away. But someone else learned what we were doing. Someone from my past in Greece. Wanting to destroy me. They killed her before I arrived. When I arrived. I found her dead. So took the blade used to kill her. To bind myself to this realm. To ensure I would return. And be able to revive her as well one day. The Magi found me. And not giving me a chance to explain. Believed I killed her. And punished me with a fate far worse than death. To ensure I could not come back." He continued.
"That is why you want the powers back. To revive her. You wish to bring back the one you love. But are willing to kill those who have done you no harm to do so?" Ardith narrowed his eyes.
"What can I say? I am desperate. And time is of the upmost importance right now." Rugnak smiled. "You bastard. Jonathan truly is dead then, huh? Since no way would he allow you to harm Evelyn like this." Rick looked ready to lunge at the man. Evelyn glared at Rugnak. Feeling a mix of rage, betrayal, and heartbreak realizing her brother truly was gone.
Rick aimed the Bident, and jumped forward. Aiming for Rugnak's heart. But to his shock Rugnak dodged quickly, and grabbed the handle. Twisting it from his grasp. "I do thank you for bringing me the Bident though. I never would be able to complete the ritual without it. So thanks for helping." Rugnak laughed softly. Rick growled, kicking Rugnak in the ankle tripping him. Rugnak fell hard to the ground. But did not let go of the weapon. Instead he held it high above the center of the runes he carved out. And began to recite something. The spell to unbind himself.
He was clearly in pain. And not from Rick's attack. But from the curse affecting him. He had to hurry and break the curse. Then open the underworld. If he waited too much longer. The pain would incapacitate him.
"Me tous desmoús tou aímatos. Anapnéoume néa zoí. Étsi pou akómi kai o thánatos. Den boreí poté na mas chorísei. Adérfia sti zoí kai sto thánato. Epistrépste se aftó to vasíleio . Me to aíma mas sfragízoume. I symfonía mas eínai alithiní!" He gasped through pained breaths, slamming the tip of the Bident into the ground. Piercing the stone floor. The ground quaked, as a black mist with a green glow to it rose from the ground swirling around them.
"He is opening the underworld. We must stop him before he spills any blood!" Ardith yelled, pulling out his sword. The temple began shaking. As if a great earth quake was happening. And the ceiling began to crack. Looking up Rick saw a piece of the ceiling break off and fall down to Evelyn. "Evie!" He yelled, jumping forward to push her out of the way. But he was too slow. He saw a splash of blood before darkness enveloped the entire temple, signifying the gate to the underworld had opened. "Evelyn!" He shouted. Trying to see anything. Feeling around for her, or anyone else there.
