In an alternate universe, this hotel is a peaceful one. I know probably no one at all imagined this pairing, but Serpci is such a cool character, I wanted to pair her with someone. I wonder which ghost guy you all think she would look good with, out of curiosity. Anywho, hope you'll like this story as odd and unlikely as this couple is. God Jehovah bless.

Love From Afar

The haunted hotel the Last Resort was a place for wandering apparitions to stay, and it had everything: gourmet food, luxurious furnishings, a greenhouse, a gymnasium, a movie studio, a magic show, a piano stage, even a disco dance floor and a museum. One of the ghosts who work there was a staff hand named Steward who handled the guests' luggage. Grunt work was definitely the right term for this job, but it was something he could do. He couldn't play the piano like Mr. Wolfgeist, film like Morty or cook like Chef Soulffle`.

At least it gave him something to do. He was happy enough and the staff all got along well. His favorite time of the month was the staff meeting where he could stand in the room as everyone discussed new ideas to promote business. The reason he liked it so much was because he could see the most beautiful girl ghoul, Serpci.

She was an Egyptian ghost who was head of the Egyptian-themed floor to entertain in the art of the cobra dance, explaining hieroglyphics and using her powers to make sculptures of sand to give the guests the time of their afterlives.

Steward had tried to think of excuses to help the guests to her floor so he could catch any glimpses of her. Every time he did, he almost felt under her spell.

This time of month was special because he could see her for several minutes. He smiled whenever she had something to say, a skill for the art of sand and dancing.

She was perfect in every way, which made him feel too unworthy for someone as exotic as her. He thought what chance did he, with a simplistic, plain occupation like his had with her?

He grinned as he watched her give the magician girls, Nikki, Lindsey and Ginny pointers on entertainment. They looked up to her which was no surprise to him. Every girl guest whom Serpci entertained said they wanted to be like her.

Of course, male guests always had eyes on her, too, to his slight envy. He wasn't surprised by that, either, a woman like her was going to most likely attract many men's attention.

He just wished he knew how to attract hers.

One night on a full moon, he helped new guests to his favorite floor where he was lucky Serpci was in such a good mood that she came to greet her floor's guests herself.

Steward smiled to himself when she passed him and the luggage he tended to, feeling more energized now that he got to see her close up.

He finished his work, wondering how a ghost could run out of breath before he grinned from hearing Serpci bid her guests good night.

She turned to Steward who stood up straight, looking stiffer than an apparition usually did from anxiety.

"Steward, I must say you've done your job well giving service with a smile tonight."

He smiled humbly, his hands behind him. "Well, I was in a very good mood tonight."

"Yes, it's a very beautiful night gracing our beautiful hotel for a beautiful vacation for our guests."

"Yes, beautiful in... every way." He cleared his throat. "Well, I have to get back to the lobby. Bye for now."

"Mm-hmm, bye for now," she smiled, watching him take his leave.

Steward waited until the elevator door closed before he leaned against the wall behind him, his hands on his beating heart.

"Wow... She actually spoke to me, and even better, complimented me. Mama Mia, do I love this hotel."
