"Michael, I'm scared." The voice of the Knight Industries Two Thousand is heavy with fear.

Michael Knight looks at the voice modulator inside the black Trans AM. "I know, Pal. Hang in there. We should be home soon." He said soothingly.

"I can hear everything around me, Michael, but I can't see anything. Everywhere, it's dark, so dark. I-I feel trapped inside a small, dark space. It's like a never-ending nightmare. Michael, please tell me we are near the garage." Kitt said, trying to regain control of his emotions, but instead, becoming more afraid by the minute.

"I promise, Kitt. We're almost there. I'll get you home safe and sound. Do you trust me?" Michael continues to soothe while asking that particular awkward question.

"I do, Michael. Although, I find it very difficult," Kitt confessed. "I never had to trust anyone one hundred percent before - not even my creator. I'm supposed to be indestructible, to never rely on anyone, but now I'm blind, truly blind, and my continued existence has become your responsibility, Michael. I'm scared that I'll be blind for the rest of my life - I don't want to be a burden on you."

"You'll be fixed up very soon, Pal. You'll be back to your old self in no time. It's ok to rely on me occasionally - there's no shame. You never be a burden to anyone, Kitt." Michael said while continuing to drive at far below the speed limit.

"You've needed me and my abilities to keep you informed...To keep you safe. With my scanner damaged, I cannot perform my duties to serve you as my programming dictates." Kitt continues very quietly. "I'm inadequate, useless!"

"No, you're NOT, Kitt! You're damaged, yes, but far from either inadequate or useless. I don't want to hear the words inadequate and useless from you EVER again. Do you understand?" Michael's temper flares up briefly. "I see the front gates, Buddy. We're home. Won't be too long now." Michael sighs while attempting to comfort the AI.

Michael drives straight to the garage - where Bonnie and RC3 are waiting. On a table nearby is a brand-new scanner ready for installation.

"Bonnie and RC are here, Pal. You're ready?" Michael exits the car and starts to walk over to a nearby chair.

"MICHAEL! Please don't leave me, come back! I-I need you." Kitt cries out.

"I'm here, Buddy. I'm not going anywhere." Michael responded with gentleness as he returned to the car and re-entered the cabin. He gives a 'Hurry up and fix him' look to both Bonnie and RC as Kitt is unaware his best friend did so.

The damaged scanner detaches, and now there's a gaping hole in the front of Kitt's prow. The AI says nothing while Michael continues to murmur reassuring words about what type of football game they can play together, to chess, to descriptions of Michael's favorite foods, and finally, how beautiful the sunset will be.

Two hours later, the new scanner is tested, calibrated, and ready for Kitt to try. The scanner is activated, brightens, and moves from side to side with an occasional whooshing sound.

Kitt can see- EVERYTHING!

"Michael! It's so good to see you! I see you!" Kitt exclaims, very much relieved the 'nightmare' is over.

"Welcome back, Buddy! Welcome back!" Michael replies warmly.

"Thank you, Michael." The AI said fondly.

"For what, Kitt?" Michael questions while giving a pat on the dashboard.

"Keeping your promise, Michael. I'm safe and now restored. I was a fool for thinking I couldn't completely trust anyone. I trust you completely and unreservedly." Kitt responds calmly.

"Kitt, I completely trust you no matter what. I wouldn't be a good partner if I didn't. You've always protected me - sighted or blind, I'm grateful." Michael smiles. "C'mon, Pal. Let's play some football and later watch the sunset."

"Let's!" Kitt flashes his new scanner.
