Twilight was told she is too deep into her books at times. This may be one of these situations. Having read the legends of Nightmare Moon, she is convinced the walking nightmare will return. As she wrote a letter to her mentor, she received one. A meeting, now. "Perfect! I can tell her in person!"

She left her room and ran to the princess's chamber. The guards just let her though. In there, she deactivated the glamour by tapping her necklace.

"You were fast, I just send the letter.", said Celestia.

"I know, but there is something I really need to talk to you about.", said Twilight. "I've read the legend of Nightmare Moon and-"

"You are worried she returns. Calm down, Twilight. While it is true, I have a plan to handle her." She saw her niece's eyes getting bigger and her wings opening in shock. "But that is not why I called you for. Your debut as a princess is coming closer, so I will slowly get you used to such tasks. For this, I want you to plan this years celebration in Ponyville! But also to keep ready for her return, as she should return in the Everfree, where the old castle stands.", explained Celestia. "I am fully aware that it is odd to have the thousandth celebration in such a small town, but I think her return is bigger than the feelings of the Canterlot nobility. And planning for a small town would be good exercise for you, Twilight."

"I see... What do I need to do? When do I leave?", asked Twilight.

"While optional, Ponyville has a mare that has experience in planning events. Contact her. You will need someone for the catering, decorations, the Pegasi need to keep the feather clear for that day, someone for the music. Now... your status as my personal student give you a lot of attention. I... offer you to go incognito as Pegasus, if you can handle being without magic."

"Mm, I doubt I have these problems in such a small town as Ponyville!" Twilight is nervous for her debut as people already act bonkers to her for her status as Celestia's student. She can't imagine how it will be when she is revealed to be a princess. Especially since rumors of one or two secret princess's have been spreading lately. Twilight sometimes goes undercover as a Pegasus. Partly to allow her to spread her wings more freely. She just claims her cutie mark is astronomy based. While not common, it isn't unheard of that Pegasi are into Astronomy.

"It is your choice, but you could fly there more freely.", said Celestia. "Oh, you would need to arrange a place to stay. I've heard that the Library of Ponyville is vacant, including it's living space."

"The library? How great!", said Twilight. "Can Crowley accompany me?"

"Sure... if she wants. Crowley had a bad experience in Ponyville before I hired her..." mentioned Celestia.

Twilight could imagine what her mentor meant. Bat ponies have a hard time. Nearly extinct at that. "I ask her then when I see her. Maybe I go as a Pegasus if she declines." The attention she gets tends to be diluted by just Crowley's presence.

"But seriously, stay calm about my sister's return, focus on your task at hoof, but don't isolate yourself.", said Celestia. "Just because your away from your group, does not mean not to feel some friendship. Even if you drag Moondancer with you."

"Yes, princess Celestia.", agreed Twilight sheepishly. As she left to find Crowley, Celestia was hurt. Her niece, who is a princess and near equal to her, calls her by her title, not aunt! Maybe she should come clean like Cadence told her to.

As she returned to her room, Crowley approached her. "Moondancer is holding a party in the west garden. Should we attend?"

"Of course. I need to talk with the girls anyway. The princess gave me the task to plan this years Summer Sun Celebration!", announced Twilight as she looked for a gift she prepared for Moondancer. Due to the jokes about their similar manes, Twilight let a jeweler make a replica of her necklace. Instead of silver and sapphires, Moony's necklace is bronze and made from amethysts, matching her color palette. "Albeit..."

"Albeit?"

"It is in Ponyville. Will you accompany me?", asked Twilight. "I understand if you say no... you know what, tell me your choice after Moondancer's party."

Arriving at the party, her friends greeted her with their joke. "Hello, princess of the libraries!" Only Lyra was not there, as she moved to Ponyville a while ago.

"For you.", she said as she gave Moondancer the necklace. "If you copy my mane."

"Copying is the highest form of flattery, Princess.", replied Moondancer. "I saw you dashing to the Princess's chamber. Did something happen?"

"To get me used to my royal duties, I am tasked to plan this years Summer Sun Celebration.", announced Twilight. "It will be held in Ponyville, so I will leave tomorrow until the celebration is over."

"Oh, so Moony's party is the last time we see each other for a while.", realized Twinkleshine.

"Ah, she has Lyra there.", said Minuette. "And me! I'll go there as well to visit family and Lyra. See you in a few days, then."

"Oh, how nice.", chimed Lemon Hearts in. "And congratulations for having the honor of planning the thousandth celebration."

"Albeit isn't Ponyville a bit odd for the thousandth?", asked Moondancer.

"Yes, but... clarified reason.", answered Twilight. "Sorry, girls."

"Eh, understandable.", said Minuette. "When you plan, make it fun, okay?"

"You say that as if I'm boring!", countered Twilight, fake-offended. "Hey!" Then the realization hit.

As they landed in Ponyville when the sun rose, Twilight noted Crowley's nervousness, so did Twilight. "You can go back to Canterlot if you want, Crowley.", she offered her friend and assistant. They arrived so early so that they could reach the library before anyone notes Crowley.

"No, no. I help you, I stay here with you.", decided Crowley as she got off the carriage. She nod to one of the guards carrying it, a bat pony like her. After she returned, Celestia hired more bat ponies, including this stallion. "Now where is that library?"

"According to the major's letter, it is build into the biggest Oak tree, so it should be easy to find.", said Twilight. She shifted her attention to the two stallions. "And thank you sir's."

"You're welcome, princess.", they replied.

"Not so loud, you two.", scolded them Crowley.

The two mares found the Oak with ease and moved in.

"Okay. First of all, we meet the major. There we ask about that party mare the Princess mentioned. From there, we find someone for music, catering, decorations and the weather.", said Twilight, writing a list. Spike returned to sleep as they reached the Oak. They won't wake him after waking him so early for the travel. "Do you believe me that I can't ignore Nightmare Moon's return?"

"I can, I sense that you aren't calm even if you look like it.", replied Crowley.

"Why does the princess look for bearers for the elements? Can't she use them again?"

"Not really. You see..." Twilight is aware Crowley is a time traveler – she slipped into old Equestrian once – but not why. "When she banished Princess Luna, the Elements rejected Princess Celestia. They stopped working, turning to stone and vanishing. They are not meant to be used by one sole pony. Celestia is locked from using them now.", explained Crowley, "While she could just look for two bearers, she wants to play it save and search for one pony per element."

"I see... I see..." Twilight heard noises from outside. "Ah, the town is waking up!"

Crowley's stomach growled. She asked embarrassingly, "Could we get something to eat first before we meet the major?"

"Of course, Crowley. We better get groceries too, then. We'll be here until the celebration is over.", decided Twilight. "Should I go as a Pegasus?"

"Can you last that long without magic?", asked Crowley mockingly.

"No…" It is her cutie mark after all.

"Exactly, princess."

Thousandth Summer Sun Celebration not held in Canterlot

The Royal House has announced that this year's summer sun celebration will be held in Ponyville and not the capital, Canterlot.

On first glance, who cares? Mind you, Ponyville is a small and – despite being close to Canterlot – rural town. Even normally an odd choice to host such festivities. But this year is the 1000th celebration. Special years are always hosted in the capital city, the nobles of Canterlot petitioned for this right soon after the holiday got introduced a millennia ago.

Princess Celestia has yet to give a statement why she chose the small town south of Canterlot.

She did, however, share with the announcement that her personal student Viscountess Twilight Sparkle of House Stars will organize this years celebration. It is unlikely that the Viscountess influenced the decision to host there, as the town is unrelated and irrelevant to the Viscounts of House Stars.

Most of the other nobles – notably House Orion, Twilight's maternal family – were very vocal about this break of their petition. They demand that the celebration is held in Canterlot or at least a major city like Manehattan or Vanhoover.

Walking out of the library, Crowley kept close to her charge. As they approached the market, ponies started to notice Crowley and stare at her. Twilight just returned unimpressed glares. Having brought a few groceries from the market, they returned. Then the muttering started. "Holy hay, a Thestral! There hadn't been one since nearly twenty years!"

"That really happened? I thought that was just Granny Smith's early crazes."

"Ah, they remember me. To some extent.", muttered Crowley. "They don't seem to treat that Granny Smith much kinder."

"Honestly, I don't get why Lyra moved here... Lyra! We need to visit Lyra.", said Twilight, remembering her friend.

"Am here! Now why are you here?", asked Lyra as she approached them. "You okay, Crowley?"

"Long story. Talk to the Princess.", muttered Crowley. "I was once in Ponyville, twenty years ago. No good experience."

Lyra looked around, seeing the ponies staring with fear. "I see. Sorry for that." She then said more loudly, "Ponyville's population is normally more friendly and lesser cowardly!" The ponies looked away and walked away, having been called out. "Now, why you here? Taking a break? Sounds like you aren't here for me."

"I tell in the library where we stay.", said Twilight.

Lyra followed her there. As they ate breakfast, Twilight explained that the Summer Sun Celebration is held in Ponyville, planned by Twilight and, "Minuette will come here as well in a few days. She's visiting her relatives in Vanhoover currently."

"How nice! Now, for catering, Ponyville has two options. The Cakes who own the Sugar Cube Corner and the Apple family. Please ask the Apples, Mr. and Mrs. Cake would be too stressed out by catering such an event.", said Lyra. "For the decorations, you have to ask Rarity, she has a boutique here."

"Oh, you seem to know many people here. Princess Celestia mentioned a mare who is experienced in planning parties, do you know her?", asked Twilight, writing down what Lyra told her.

"Mm, she must mean Pinkie Pie. She works at the Sugar Cube Corner. If you don't find her here, you probably walk into her.", said Lyra. "It may sound odd – to be fair, everything about her is odd – but she can sense people in need of a party. She's very fun."

"Pinkie Pie...", she noted down the name.

Lyra then said, "We better get to the mayor, then I show you the way to Sweet Apple Acres. It would be better to tell them first, so that they have as much time as possible for the catering."

"That sounds like a plan." stated Twilight.

The ponies were lesser awkward when seeing Crowley, now that they saw Lyra talking to her all friendly. Spike was now with them. As they approached the mayor, she flinched seeing Crowley. Twilight sighed and said, "I am Twilight Sparkle. I believe you have read my letter?"

"Of course, of course! I am so honored that Ponyville had been chosen to host the thousandth celebration!", she said, cheering for her town. "Is there anything you need?"

"Does Ponyville have it's own weather team?", asked Twilight. "While it is small, I know it is close to Cloudsdale."

"Not necessarily a team... We have Rainbow Dash and a few volunteers, if needed.", explained the mayor. "You can't miss her flying her stunts. She's a flying rainbow."

"I see. Mm, one pony handling the weather of a whole town is something." replied Twilight. Then again, Ponyville is quite small.

"Rainbow Dash is very efficient.", assured her the older mare proudly.

As Lyra guided them to the Apple farm, they walked into Pinkie Pie. As soon as she saw them, the ran off.

"Maybe I should leave...", said Crowley darkly, faulting herself for the mare's reaction.

"Relax, Crowley. Pinkie always reacts to new faces like that.", said Lyra. "She reacted like this when I moved here. She then threw a welcoming party for me. She probably does the same for you two now."

"I hope she does, then I can ask her for the celebration.", stated Twilight.

"You could enjoy the party.", countered Lyra.
