Chapter 4: Parachute Pals and Dinner
Marshall jumped out of the basket of apples before helping to push them into the barn. Marshall smiled before receiving pets from the two Farmers.
"Thank you for helping us, Marshall. We couldn't have gotten all the fruit and vegetables into the barn without your help," Farmer Yumi thanked as she pet the Dalmatian pup on the head.
"You're welcome Farmer Yumi and Farmer Al. Just remember; if you're ever in trouble, just yelp for help! Goodbye," Marshall replied happily, appreciating the pets and kind words. After the two farmers stopped petting him, Marshall ran over to his fire truck, and drove away.
"Phew! Well it was nice helping out Farner Yumi and Farmer Al with their fruit picking. Although, all that hard work made me hungry. I think I'll stop at Mr. Porter's for something to eat. I hope Ryder and the pups are enjoying their time parachuting," Marshall said to himself before he drove to Mr. Porter's Cafe.
Meanwhile on the hot air balloon, Ryder was the last team member to parachute down. Looking at his pup pad, he used his fingers to zoom in the screen on his device. He took a picture of the parachute covered pups that had landed on the ground so he could show Marshall later.
"Meet you on the ground sir," Ryder told the balloon and skydiving experts. Both gave Ryder two smiles and nods before Ryder took a deep breath and carefully climbing onto the outside of the hot air balloon basket, then jumped off.
Ryder spread his arms and legs out as he fell towards the ground in freefall; feeling the air rush by him. Ryder waited for minutes, as he fell down lower and lower. It was refreshing to feel the cool wind on his skin. Soon, when Ryder got lower enough to release the parachute, he pulled the cord on his backpack and waited. Ryder felt a jolt as the parachute was being released, waiting for what would happen next.
FWOOSH! Ryder's blue parachute popped out of the backpack, before catching the air, gently lowering the boy towards the ground. The view was clear and quiet as Ryder floated down, and within a few minutes, his feet touched the landing pad.
"Yes! I made it! That was great!" Ryder exclaimed happily. The pups cheered and howled for him happily, still trapped under their signature colored parachutes. Seeing his colorful parachute ghosts in front of him, Ryder smiled before taking out his Pup Pad, and taking pictures of each pup, a pair of pups, or group pictures off all the pups trapped under their colored parachutes. The team looked like silly ghosts under their parachutes. Ryder finished taking pictures, and even a few videos of the parachute covered pups before putting his Pup Pad away. Once he did though, his blue nylon parachute floated down, and landed on top of the ten year old boy.
"Huh? heard clicks! Were you taking pictures of us Ryder!" Chase asked curiously as he kept struggling under his blue parachute.
"Yes, I was taking pictures, and videos to show Marshall. Well done pups! How about I help you out, and then we can - Woah! Ahhh! Ahhhhh! Hey! Help! Let me outta here!" Ryder exclaimed as he started to struggle, and flailed about under his big, blue parachute. The ten year old boy looked like a blue ghost as he attempted to get out of his parachute.
The pups giggled happily at how silly Ryder must have looked, given the pups themselves were trying to get out of their own colorful parachutes. Ryder tried and flailed to get free, but it was difficult getting out of the blue parachute. Now, he was a blue flailing ghost, along with his group of pups, engulfed by their colored parachutes.
"Now I know how you pups feel; it's not easy being stuck under these parachutes. It's kind of hard to get untangled from under them," Ryder told the pups, his voice muffled by the parachute he was trapped under.
"Hehehe. It sure is Ryder. We must look so silly under here!" Skye agreed with a giggle, still trying to get out of her pink nylon parachute.
"Silly, AND spooky! Booooooo! Wooooooo! We're parachute ghosts! Ghoooosssssttts! Oooooooooo!" Rocky added, before pretending to be a ghost under his green nylon parachute. Everyone giggled at how silly Rocky was acting, feeling inspired to pretend playing ghosts too.
"Booooooooo! Oooooooooooo! Woooooooo! Ooooooooo! Hahahahahahah!" Ryder and the pups exclaimed playfully, as they wondered around under their parachutes. While flailing their arms pretending to be ghosts, they laughed at not only how silly they felt, but how much fun it was playing ghosts.
"Now I see why Marshall and Everest enjoyed playing ghosts under their parachutes after skydiving; it's fun!" Chase commented with interest.
"Totally dude!" Zumba agreed happily as he wagged his tail, the chocolate lab still under his orange parachute.
"Booooooooo! Ooooooooooooo! Hehehehehe!" the pups and Ryder said as they flailed and fumbled about, pretending to be ghosts under their colored parachutes.
"Hehehe. Well we can always play parachute ghosts at The Lookout. Maybe we should try getting out of our parachutes, so we can skydive a few more times?" Ryder suggested, feeling bad about cutting off the ghost play time.
"You mean, IF we CAN get out of the parachutes!" Rubble corrected, before everyone laughed in agreement.
Back at Mr. Porter's Cafe, Marshall stopped his fire truck, then jumped out of it, and sat down in a chair by a table. Mr. Porter came over to Marshall, surprised but happy.
"Hi Marshall. Did Ryder send you over for a delivery?" Mr. Porter asked kindly.
"No. Ryder and the pups went parachuting today. The Lookout is locked, since I went to see if anyone needed help. I just got back from helping Farmer Yumi and Farmer Al," Marshall explained.
"Okay. Would you like to eat here, or take something to go? I don't want to keep you busy if you need to get back," Mr. Porter replied considerably.
"I'll have something to take back to The Lookout. Just let me look at the menu please," Marshall said thoughtfully.
"Just let me know when you're ready," Mr. Porter said before going back into his restaurant. Marshall started to look over the menu.
"Okay what to eat ... peanut butter? No. Strawberry cheesecake? Too late for dessert. All vegetables plate? No thanks. Hmmmmm. Garlic chicken pasta? No. Sounds good, but no garlic for dogs. Huh? Spicy wing challenge? ... Can you take the heat? Try to clean a plate by eating ... TWENTY SPICY CHICKEN WINGS ... COVERED IN JALAPENO AND RED PEPPER EXTRACT for a delicious but volancic flavour experience?! No! No no! No thanks! Gotta be something else. Smoothies ... Tropical mix? A smoothie filled with milk, pineapple, coconut, and dill pickles mixed together for a unique tropical time. Well, I know our husky friend Snowflake would like this, but she's back at her hometown. Hmmmmm. No thanks. Steak dinner, steak dinner with vegetables, salmon dish, trout dish. Not really in the mood. Hmmmm. Oh! Chicken Berry Simply. A chicken dinner with a berry sauce of your choice, with two sides of your choosing. That sounds good," Marshall said finally deciding on what to eat for dinner.
"Mr. Porter!" Marshall called out. The restaurant owner walked back outside to the pup.
"Yes Marshall? Did you find something you would like?" Mr. Porter addressed upon arriving.
"Yes. I would like the Chicken Berry Simply please. Strawberry and blueberry sauce, with salad and sweet potato sides. Only snap peas, and carrot salad please," Marshall told the man.
"Coming right up," Mr. Porter replied before taking the menu and leaving again.
