Finding peace in the aftermath is a challenge, especially since she's stuck with the jewel. She just can't seem to shake that uneasy feeling… She's never been much of a gambler, after all.

Chapter One

"Hey, Kid, what's taking you so long?"

The voice from outside the tiny shack she stood in made her jump. She brushed her hair over her shoulder as she glanced back at the entrance to the well house. A figure standing there, halfway blocking out the sunlight, watched her with eyes so akin to her own. There was a beat where just silence filled the space between them before Kagome shook her head.

"It's nothing…" Kagome sighed, stepping away from the well with a faint smile lifting at her lips. Standing there in the darkness of the run-down well house left her feeling a certain type of way. She couldn't quite tell if it was a good feeling or not, so she instead decided to not give it a name. "I was just… saying goodbye."

She could feel the faint spark of confusion that peppered his aura at her comment, and she heard the floorboards creak as he stepped a bit more into the well house. The sunlight returned full force as he folded his arms and leaned against the wall as he watched her. "That's quite a way to say it, I suppose," Grimsley remarked with a faint chuckle.

"Is it now?" Kagome countered with a similar laugh. "I guess I've just grown so fond of it all, you know?"

It was one way of putting her feelings into words, but even as she said it, it still didn't quite seem right. How could she ever really manage to find the words that gave life to all the feelings she had in the aftermath? She doubted such a feat would ever be accomplished… For her, at least.

Her hand fell to land on the lip of the well, blue eyes returning to gaze down into the dark abyss that'd once been so inviting. The air in the room was stagnant, almost to the point it felt poisonous. She couldn't blame him for being so confounded by her attachment. Her smile faded as her grip on the well-tightened, blunt nails dug into the wood.

Yet again, she found herself faced with a question that seemed to linger on her mind more and more as the days went on.

Was it truly okay for her to move on like this? Just like that?

Her other hand came up to grip the jewel that hung innocently from around her neck. She knew it was far from innocent, but that was a burden no one else was aware of. Maybe that was for the best, though.

The well had been sealed for months now, and the longer she stayed there, the more and more she found herself dreading it. She couldn't just stay in a place that'd had so much negative energy. Then again, if she left with the jewel, then that negative energy would only follow.

Before she'd made her choice, she'd been so sure that the decision had been right, but now that she was staring it in the face, something about it left her nerves alight and on edge. Something in the air left her feeling so… uneasy.

Unable to endure it any longer, Kagome turned away from the well entirely. She automatically sought out the other person there, finding him in the same position as he stood watching her actions. Blue eyes clashed over the darkness, and she moved to walk up the few steps separating the platforms they stood on.

"Dad…" Kagome began, only to stop herself before the full question could escape. There was no point to it, as she'd already caught his attention.

"Yeah? What's up, Kid?"

The nickname never once changed, no matter how much she'd grown since her earlier years. She was nowhere near as young as she'd once been, yet he still stuck to that title for her.

She held her silence for several moments as she tried to carefully piece the words together. After a while, she decided that there was no way to phrase it as a hypothetical situation, so she then decided on transparency.

"Something about the decision I'm making feels so… awful," she stated. "Is it really okay for me to leave?"

There was no point in beating around the bush, after all. A knowing gleam lingered in his eyes as he sighed and pushed his weight off the wall. He motioned for her to follow him, and she soon joined him outside the well house.

"I was waiting for something like that," he mused. The shrine was empty, seeming to lack that comfortable familiarity she'd sought upon her return. "In the end, things won't change without a force," Grimsley stated. "All you can do is play the game." He turned, meeting her eyes with his own. He reached a hand out, a single coin resting in his palm. Kagome glanced down at it, her expression unreadable. "Are you going to take the chance, or will you let yourself stay stagnant?"

It was an answer, yet it wasn't all at the same time. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to take advice from her gambling addict of a father…-

The thought of fleeting as she sighed. She folded her arms and turned her focus to the edge of the shrine. Maybe she was just as bad, especially since it made sense in her mind.

His hand moved to the middle of her back, right between her shoulder blades as he gave an encouraging push. The step that followed seemed to seal her fate and make her decision. She didn't spare the well house a parting glance as she made her way to the stone staircase with him.

"Alola, huh?" she mused softly, her voice low and mostly kept to herself. She knew he'd heard her, especially when he glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "Seems interesting."

Auroua-chan: Honestly, the idea of Kagome and Grimsley being related has been a prevalent thought for me. At the very least, she can learn a lot from him.

Kagome's going to have a dark-type Pokemon, obviously, but therein lies the difficult decision. Zorua is a solid choice since it's Gen V (much like Grimsley) but Absol or Umbreon are also good choices. I don't want her to have a full team of dark types, and I don't know if I want her to have a different eeveloution.

She'd be better with a variety, as opposed to a mono-type team.

Grimsley knows about her trips through the well, even if it wasn't explicitly stated. His thoughts on them will come later.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
