Memories of Once Was

Disclaimer; Don't own Vampire Knight or it would've been a BL and etc.

Warning; Before reading you should know this is my first-ish attempt at writing a fanfic about this series and if you are a Yuki fan this isn't for you. I DESPISE Yuki Cross/Kuran with a burning passion and wish the series had been a yaoi, it would have been sooooo much better. Her eyes are way too big for her face. Anyway, on with the chapter.

Chapter 1

Yuki noticed Zero was acting different for over two weeks.

It started on the evening during changer-over, Zero suddenly collapses when the night student was leaving. A few hours after waking he was quiet (more than usual) and seems to be in a daze but overall fine, at least that's what she thought while the chairman fussed over his non responding son.

The next day everything seemed normal, until at change-over. Zero had seem startled at seeing Kaname-senpai when the gates open then bolted bewildering everyone there.

Zero locked himself in his room at the chairman's house for three days after that incident. She and the chairman were concern throughout those days (Zero had put up a barrier preventing any entry to his room and didn't eat or drink anything nor respond to their constant inquiry).

The evening Zero finally came out he acted somewhat normal though he did leave absurdly during change-over and ignored her calling him.

The following days Zero drastically changed, he stopped scowling and glaring at others. His demeanor became refine like the night students but much more elegant. He treats the night student as if they're air which anger most especially when he treats Kaname-senpai the same even when the pureblood dotes on her.

Zero tried to avoid Kaname-senpai as if he was the plague. If Kaname-senpai so much as look in Zero's direction the prefect would immediately leave the area.

Many were baffled, confused and or curious at his sudden drastic change (mostly the night students, Kaien and Yuki).

The day students however shrugged it off after a while since Zero treats them (somewhat) nicer, he was more approachable-that doesn't mean he went out of his way to be friendly with everyone but he isn't hostile when others talk to him. He starts giving off a calm noble vibe and only talks when necessary and answer student's questions when asked, it's like he became a different person, (except during change-over) he may not glare anymore but his penetrating stare is a thousand time scarier (somehow).

On occasions she saw him subtly rubbing his chest at random times. She tried to ask about it one evening when she saw him rubbing his chest and why he'd suddenly change but received a dark glare before he walked away.

She'd stood in the kitchen stunned at his reaction then brushed it off seconds later writing it off as Zero being his usual grumpy self, 'that's right, Zero can't stay mad at me for long, he's in love with me after all' she'd convinced herself.

But he became more distant towards her after that night, though she's determined to get answers so she tried again two days later after change-over and failed. But most important, the subtle quick glances Zero sends Kaname-senpai when he thought no one was looking (she saw by chance the eve before her fail attempt to question him) and it didn't sit right with her.

Zero's POV

He woke up disoriented and confused with memories of a life he once lived in love with someone he's familiar with in his current one.

Though things are different now, the love of his past life is infatuated with another and only see him as a disposable level E and faithful guard-dog.

He'd tune out everything around him staring blankly at the wall in the infirmary office ignoring the hyperactive male fussing over him, standing by the bed he sat up in trying to process everything. Experiencing centuries worth of memories and emotions in a few hours is quite overwhelming for his current self.

His emotions and mind were still a jumble mess the next day and seeing Kaname Kuran in the late evening didn't help matters (having double vision of slightly different features overlapping). So, he locked himself in his room for three days to sort and ground himself to current reality and not mix up past with present memories then end up doing something embarrassing. Calling Kuran by a pet name or embrace him wanting comfort for example, 'yeah, I would die on the spot, that's a recipe for disaster.'

The evening he finally left his room he attends change-over thinking he was fine but seeing Kuran walked straight to that girl, Yuki, and ignoring him hurt deeply. Clenching his fists until they turn white while biting his lip, he looked away then grasped his chest with a silent gasp when a sharp jolt of pain registered for a second.

He chanced a glance to the chatting brunettes and regrets it, his heart skipped a beat and his entire being pulsed when lavender eyes met Kuran's, he immediately turned and ran away before he did something he won't regret (snapping Yuki's neck for one who's acting like a love sick fool).

She must have noticed him leaving but he ignored her calls, lavender eyes flash an icy-blue for a moment.

After calming he realize his instinct and emotions wouldn't be as easily repressed as he thought. He can still feel their mating bond but something seems to be sealing part of Kuran's soul. The reason his mate didn't seek him out in this life, so he'd decided (reluctantly) to completely mute it from Kuran.

He could unseal the pureblood's soul but he didn't want to risk trying when he's not at full power yet and cause damage, plus this world's Kaname isn't in love with him but his pureblood sister playing human, he'd thought it's for the best.

Yes, he'd figure that out the moment he came out of isolation and laid eyes on her. How could he not (with his vast knowledge from past life) see the spell surrounding her body with magical chains restraining her true nature. And they do look alike when compared, except their eyes.

Another thing that awakened with his memories, the part of his soul that forced his change to restore his former self.

The catalysts that triggered the awakening was Shizuka's bite, the seals and drinking Yuki's blood.

Shizuka's bite had slowly tainted his soul as time pass then the seals were placed, one to stop him should he lose control but he accidently drank Yuki's blood and it combine with the other that suppressed his vampiric nature tried to shackled the dormant part forcing it to awaken, preventing himself from being tied to both females (since he's already spoken for).

A being of his caliber would not be tamed by blood sucking rats especially the weak annoying one playing human.

In his previous life he was the most fearsome Elemental Ice Dragon, Rosalg Dloc. Proud as he was fell in love with a human name Kaname, Crown Prince of the Tristan Empire.
