My heart will go on ... or will it?
I pushed through the crowd of people that had gathered in the Saloon for the Founders Day Festival. Rosemary and Fiona had just announced a Lady's Choice dance as the last one for the night. I had left little Jack with Fiona and some of the other lady's while I went to find Lucas. I was going to ask him to dance. I didn't feel l comfortable getting into a relationship so quickly after Jack had died, but I wanted to get something out of tonight so it didn't hurt to try. I knew I needed to open my heart again for little Jacks sake but I didn't want to just yet. As I approached Lucas, I started doubting my decision. What if Lucas said no? What about Nathan? Who did I actually have feeling for? Did I have feelings for anyone? I didn't listen to any of it. I just walked up to him and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.
'H-hi,' I stuttered.
'Elizabeth? Are you ok?' He asked. Clearly concerned.
'Err, yeah. Would you like to dance?' I said quickly, dreading the answer.
'Of course,' he replied softly.
We were dancing for another two minutes when I looked up to see Nathan walk out of the Saloon with Allie in tow, obviously upset to leave so soon. There were no words to explain the look he gave me, so I won't try. All I can say is he look utterly disappointed and maybe even upset. I felt so bad. I decided to dance with Lucas because I didn't even know Nathan had come this evening. I didn't know what to do so I excused myself, telling Lucas that I needed to get home so I could get little Jack ready for bed, even though he didn't need to for another half an hour.
Rosemary obviously noticed me leaving because she met me at the door, Lee miles behind her. She waited until he caught up with her before she began talking.
'Elizabeth Thornton!' she said a little too loudly.
'Yes, Rosemary Coulter,' I said right back at her, not tying to hide the annoyance in my voice. At this point, all I wanted to do was get home.
'What on earth do you think you're doing?' She exclaimed, not bothering to lower her voice.
'I'm going home. What does it look like?'
'It looks like you're leaving early, and using Jack as an excuse because of something that happened that caused you to not want to stay,'
I couldn't deny it. She could she right through me.
'Rosie, honey, just leave poor Elizabeth alone. She just wants to get home, so let her,' Lee spoke up. I almost forgot he was there he was so quiet.
'Oh, all right. I am feeling quite tired and a little light headed anyway,' she stated, finally giving in.
I looked at Rosemary curiously, then brushed the thought away. It was impossible, she couldn't be, could she? I decided I was over thinking things and left quickly before anyone else could stop me.
I finally made it home and put little Jack to bed. I then made myself some tea and was about to sit down and write in my journal when I heard a knock at the door, followed by frantic screams. The voices sounded familiar, but I couldn't work out who they belonged to. I opened the door to see Rosemary, Lee, Bill and ... no, it couldn't be.
'Jack?' I managed to squeak.
Unfortunately for me the next thing I saw was black.
