Chapter one
Summer 3
The day started off normal as Dorie walked into town, enjoying the crisp summer air as she made her way to Pierre's. As she's about to make her way in she hears a small cry out. "Farmer Dorie!" She pauses as she turns to see Jas and Vincent make their way over. Jas moves closer as she looks up into Dorie's eyes. "I have a question for you" Dorie looks down at Jas with a gentle smile as she gently bends down a bit to be closer to her level. "Can witches jump rope?" Jas's head tilts to the side curious as to Dorie's response. Dorie moves back up grinning as she responses "yeah, witches can jump rope" At that moment Jas eyes grew to saucers as they glisten with amazement. Vincent growing board rolled his eyes at Jas response to Dorie's answer. As if she knew what he did Dorie looks at him as she spoke "I eat children, and that's a fact. If they eat veggies though, then they taste icky and nasty." Vincent's eyes grew into pools as he begin to tear up scared. Jas comes over and pulls at Vincent's hand asking him to play with her, they began to run off to the forest. As the kids run away Dorie gets lost in thought until she's startled by Dr.Harvey. Harvey smiles as he watches the kids run off, he sighs as he quietly spoke "it's nice seeing the children playing together". A few moments go by as the kids get further away, Dorie finds it hard to focus as she mumbles to herself "I wish you'd put a kid in me" not really noticing if Harvey heard what she said or if she was quite enough so her words would fall on deaf ears. Once again she gets pull from her train of thought as Harvey talks "I have someone I would like for you to meet." As you both walk over to the clinic, the doors open and you see a young girl sitting at the front desk. She stands up as Dr.Harvey clears his throat "Dorie, this is Maru. She's the Clinical nurse that works along side me." A brief pause happens as Dorie and Maru examine one another, glances exchange from one another until their eyes meet. Simultaneously they both spoke "Are you half-black?" They continue "yeah, my dad…." They stare as they both begin to tear up, each of them gripping one another's hands. Dorie blurs out tears forming in the corner of her eyes "soul sister who in the world did your silk press?" In exchange Maru says in tearful confidence "I made a robot" quickly Dorie shouts "we love a woman in stem!" As the girls take a few minutes to calm down, Harvey watches from the other side of the counter. Maru bids Dorie a farewell as she makes her way to the back to work on inventory. Dorie makes her way over to Harvey as she glance up at him, he greets her with a warm smile as he begins to make small talk "I've heard from the kids that you're a witch." With a grin on her face Dorie's eyes flutter shut as she replies "I am a witch" Harvey smile never fades as he answers back "Well, I have to admit that I don't believe in such things Dorie." Dorie's eyes shoot open as his smile turns to a frown, she stares at him for a moment as she begin to squint her eyes at him, her eyes turn to a look of annoyance as she begins to recite the Hippocratic oath "I swear by Apollo the physician, and desculopius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation-to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this Art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are proctitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it. I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by, all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot!" Harvey stares stunned at the sight before him, it takes him a minute to comprehend what she had said as he finally mutters "how do you know about the Hippocratic oath?" Dorie slowly turns around as she walks out leaving without giving a response to the doctor, she pauses as she pulls out her phone. She think to herself as she begins to wonder "should I only grow corn for the whole season?" Her thought suddenly come to a halt as she hears her name "Farmer Dorie!" She puts her phone away as she turns to see Dr.Harvey "hello Dr.Harvey, what's poppin?" He begin to sweat a little as he speaks "hey, I just came to tell you, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings back at the clinic. My oath says to do no harm, but I harmed your feelings and i want to apologize for it." Dorie glance to the side as she cheekily smile "Well, im really sorry for tossing the oath at you back there. That wasn't very nice…" She turns her gaze at him and whispers with a smile "friends?" He looks at her as he smiles back "friends." Thus begins a friendship between the Farmer and the Doctor.
