AN: Hey everyone, I'm sorry it's been a longtime since I've posted anything. I had lost my motivation due to writer's block on "Summer Vacation" and "Yu-Gi-Oh!: The World of DragonVale". I have decided to discontinue "Summer Vacation" for now but I plan to keep updating the DragonVale story and I still plan to do a sequel to "Stone in the Sky". Anyway, I've decided to try to do a Seto and OC romance fic. Please let me know what you all think but, as always, I delete flames. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu-Gi-Oh! or any of its characters, I only own the OC.
Chapter 1: Memory Through Twilight
The sky was bathed in orange, pink, gold, red, and purple hues with dark blue clouds. The sun was slowly setting below the horizon, the end of the day was nigh.
But while most people were heading inside their homes to settle down for the night one teenage girl, seventeen years of age, was sitting on an outdoor chair on her back patio, staring up at the beautifully nature made painting. This was her favorite time of the day. The dark blue, gold, orange, and pink colors reminded her of a dark blue vase containing a bouquet of gold, orange, and pink flowers. The vase sat atop a wooden table that was covered with a deep purple tablecloth.
But the flower vase was not the only thing that the twilight sky reminded her of. She remembered the time she made her first two friends. It was while she was in the orphanage. Just like the flower vase held a variety of flower types and colors the orphanage was filled with all kinds of children. Some children were shy and didn't put effort to meet new people. There were other kids who would get picked on and hide(she fit in this category), and of course, there were bullies who picked on kids such as herself. And just like the single pink rose in the vase there was one boy who stood out from the rest. This boy was caring and brave, for he always stood up to the bullies.
-6 years earlier-
"There she is! Get her!" Three boys, about the ages of ten through twelve, were chasing a young girl with strawberry blonde hair tied in pig tails and wearing a purple dress around the grounds of the town's local orphanage. The chase seemed infinite, never ending, until the main entrance was finally in her golden eyes' sight.
She dashed inside, the three older boys not too far behind. She ran into a room that was to the left of the front doors. The room appeared to be a game room. There were other children playing games and other fun activities. Laughter and chattering filled her ears as she entered the room.
Among the kids in the room were two boys, one brunette with deep blue eyes, about the age of twelve, and a smaller boy, about seven years old, with long dark hair and violet eyes were playing chess together. There was a dark blue vase with multi-colored flowers sitting on top of a round wooden table with a purple tablecloth several feet from the two chess players. The flowers were what caught the young girl's attention so she made a beeline for it, ignoring everyone else in the room.
As she dove under the table she heard one of her chasers, a blonde boy she knew as Damien, announce his presence.
"C'mon guys, I think she came in here!" The girl hugged her knees as she brought them up to her chest and lowered her head, trying to fight back her tears.
'Please don't let them find me. Please don't let them find me. Please don't let them find me.' She prayed silently, over and over.
The next voice she heard she knew belonged to the older of the two boys playing chess.
"Checkmate, Mokie."
Two seconds later, Damien could be heard again. "Hey kid, Seto was it? Did you see a red-haired girl run in here?"
'Please don't tell them where I'm at.'
It was as if Seto had read her mind for she heard him only acknowledge the dark-haired child he was sitting across from.
"You can start this round, Mokie."
Damien didn't take too kindly at being ignored. "I asked you a question, Seto!" He spat, his voice rising. "Did you or did you not see the red-haired girl?!"
"I did not." Seto stated in an irritated, yet calm, manner.
"I don't believe you! You're probably just trying to protect her like you do with that annoying brat!"
The golden-eyed girl chose this time to peek out from under the tablecloth but still kept herself mostly hidden. Damien was towering over the two boys sitting at the chess table, pointing a finger and glaring menacingly at the dark-haired child. At this, Seto stood up in a way that made everyone in the room freeze what they were doing and turn their heads towards the five boys.
Seto turned to face Damien as he asked in a dangerously low voice, "What did you call my brother?"
Damien looked even more annoyed now. "You heard me. He's a brat; he cries way too much and always needs you to come to his rescue. It looks to me like he's been spoiled rotten by you and your dead parents."
Golden eyes went wide as she watched Seto shove Damien to the ground and went to punch him. However, one of Damien's two friends, this boy had green hair, grabbed Seto's arm but Seto used his other arm to swing a punch at the second bully, making him let go of Seto and stumble backwards until he tripped over a chair.
The girl went back into her shelter the table was providing her when she heard the Head Master, Sister Margaret, appear.
"Boys! That is enough! I want all four of you in my office, now!"
It felt like an eternity, though in all honesty, it had only been about ten minutes. She really had no idea how long she had been crying until she heard a familiar voice softly say, "It's okay, you can come out now."
She opened her tear-filled eyes and looked up to gaze into a pair of blue eyes with brown hair nestled in between them. It was the one boy who stood up to all the bullies: Seto!
Seto held a hand out to her and she happily accepted it, trusting him to guide her out from under the table. She was scared of the bullies, of most of the people there at the orphanage if she was being honest, but not of Seto. Even before he helped her, she had never felt fear for the blue-eyed brunette.
"Are you okay?" The young strawberry blonde nodded but said nothing as she appeared to be mesmerized by her savior.
Thinking he'd better say something to break the awkward silence he decided to introduce himself.
"My name is S—"
"Seto, I know. I heard some of the other kids calling you that. Thanks for not telling those guys where I was hiding." She smiled.
"You're welcome," He smiled back and it made her cheeks blush slightly. "And who might you be?"
The girl appeared dumbfounded for a moment. She wasn't sure if she heard him right. Had he just asked her what her name was? All of the other kids either ignored or picked on her since she arrived here a few months before. Nobody had given her a chance to be friends or even to simply be acquainted. But Seto was giving her a chance, wasn't he?
"Amber." She smiled widely, so happy that someone, other than a bully, was actually talking to her.
"Can I call you 'Twilight'?" The new voice asked. Both Amber and Seto looked at the newcomer who was standing right next to Seto. It was the younger boy Seto had been playing chess with just before the fight.
Before anyone responded, the dark-haired boy continued, "Your gold eyes and that purple dress you're wearing make you look like the twilight in the sky."
Amber giggled and said, "I would love that! Thank you, um…" It only just occurred to her that she didn't know this boy's name. She had heard Seto call him "Mokie" but she figured that to be a nickname and she figured she didn't have the right to use it.
The raven-haired child realized she didn't know his name so he excitedly exclaimed, "Mokuba, my name is Mokuba! Seto is my big brother! Pleased to meet you!"
And just like that, the three children became inseparable until Amber was adopted one month later.
-Present-
The sky was now a mix of purple and dark blue going on black as the sun was completely gone for the day.
Amber sighed heavily as she stood up and stretched. Tomorrow was her first day at her new school and she knew she had better get to bed before it got too much later. Before going inside she fixated her now glowing gold orbs back unto the dark blue blanket covering this part of the world. This shade really reminded her of a pair of deep cerulean eyes with brown hair falling between them.
I wonder if he's missed me as much as I've missed him. She mused to herself. And with that thought in mind she turned back towards her house and walked back inside, the back door shutting softly behind her.
AN: Please tell me what you think. I'm not sure when I'll get the next chapter posted but I will do my best to get them up one chapter a week. It's just my job and helping take care of my mom and my husband that keeps me very busy. Hope everyone is staying safe through all the craziness with Covid and whatnot.
