"Do we have work, Finch?", John asked entering the headquarters.
"Im afraid not by now, Mr. Reese. Maybe criminals want to give us a little breather."
"Or they come up with their crimes all at once to set the stakes a bit higher than usual."
"Im glad youd see a scenario like this as a challenge. However, Im not sure if I would be all positive about it."
"Its all about perception."
"So, what does your perception say about finding the second attacker of Detective Carter?"
"Theres no reason to look for him no more."
Finch raised an eyebrow.
"Lets just say, Fusco and I worked together uncommonly symbiotic and now the two gentlemen will reside in jail a long time before attacking a Detective again."
"Thats good to hear, and as I see, you also found the time to change", Harold looked at his employees fresh dark grey shirt.
"Didnt know that youre interested in my fashion style lately."
Leaving it with the statement that was all too typical for John, he changed the topic.
"In the meantime Ive been at Detective Carters place to see how shes doing", he focused his attention to one of the screens.
"Is she alright?"
"Despite that shes still struggling with memory loss, she is okay. In fact, she seems more concerned about you than about herself", Harold shifted his attention back to the former soldier.
"Why would she be concerned about me? As far as I know she thinks were private investigators, whose main task is it to follow around unfaithful spouses all day."
"I guess her worries arent job related but rather about your relationship issues."
Seeing Johns expression harden -the tension of is jawbone- was all the confirmation he needed. It was a reaction he already observed when they met for the first time; a reflex that seemed beyond his control. Whenever John felt caught in a negative way, his facial expression would tell without him even realizing it.
Finch nodded. "I see."
For a moment a heavy silence filled the room as John directed a simple but seriously apologetic "sorry Finch" to his partner.
"Theres no reason to apologize. In fact, Im happy for you and Detective Carter. It just caught me by surprise."
"Couldnt tell you yet. It was too new and… unexpected."
"Like I said, theres no need to be sorry, nor do you owe me an explanation. However, maybe you should talk to her."
Watching his partner raising an eyebrow, Harold didnt get the problem quiet yet. "What do you want me to tell her?" John asked. "That Im actually operating on the other side of the law, yet were in a relationship since two weeks? Think shes confused enough."
"So, what are you going to do instead?"
"Hoping that her memory will find her back soon."
"Maybe you shouldnt wait for numbers to come in then. Empirical studies that deal with the topic of recovery have found evidence that a feeling of safety can help the healing of several conditions. If I interpreted Detective Carters reaction correctly when I left, she doesnt seem to feel all that save by herself right now."
Observing a nod of his employee, his words seemed to resonate.
"Let me know if you need me", he headed toward the exit as he hoped for both sides that it would be another uncommonly quiet rest of the day.
