As days turn into weeks, Max has begun to regain his strength, his mobility. Which is great, Adam's relieved to see it, always hating to watch him suffer, especially after everything that happened in the early part of the year after Worlds End. But now... now he wakes up with Piper purring above his head, and an empty stretch of mattress next to him, and he panics all over again.

He rushes out of bed as quickly as he dares to considering his ankle and makes his way quickly to the living room. "Max?" he calls out. "Max!"

He hears a noise off to the side, so he heads towards the balcony, eyes wide as he slips out into the early morning sun. "Max, what are you doing out here?" he asks, in disbelief as he walks up behind the man and wraps his arms around him.

Max exhales, then shrugs. "Uh, I don't know," he says quietly, resting his hand on Adam's forearm. "Just couldn't sleep, wanting some fresh air."

"Oh." Adam nuzzles into him as best as he can considering the neck brace still protecting him while he heals. "I woke up alone, and was worried," he murmurs.

"Sorry," Max sighs. "I just... I needed some time to myself."

"I understand," Adam says, rubbing his sides gently. "It's just kind of chilly out here, that's all. Don't want you getting sick or something."

"Maxwell Jacob Friedman never gets sick," he says, the usual bravado in his voice so forced that it kind of hurts Adam to listen to.

"I know. Still. Would you come back to bed with me for a little while?" Adam asks, squeezing him a little harder. "Please?"

Max stands for a few moments, staring out over the skyline. "Yeah, ok," he sighs finally. "Let's go back to bed."

Adam pats his hip a couple of times before backing up and walking back into the living room, grabbing a blanket off of the couch and wrapping it around Max as soon as he follows. "Get you warmed up so Miss Piper doesn't get annoyed by you touching her while chilly," he says with an amused lilt to his voice, chuffing him lightly.

Max sighs and leans into him, exhaling. "You take good care of me," he mumbles.

"Just returning the favor," Adam says with a small smile, leaning in to kiss him on the forehead. "Now c'mon. Sleep." He turns Max towards the bed and lightly pushes him forward, relieved that Max is agreeable enough to go back to bed for a few more hours.
