The peaceful trio looked up to see a man running down the path in a well paced jog. About fifty feet off the path he noticed the civilians enjoying what would have been an otherwise peaceful day. He could have continued down the path possibly joining up with the Nibelheim watch but knew he would have left these three to deal with the threat. He stopped and took a stand. He reached for his shinra issued gun and began firing a barrage of bullets at a pack of six wolves sixty feet behind and quickly closing the gap.

"Glenn!" Claudia shouted recognizing him immediately.

"I have to help him" Brian said quickly grabbing his rifle.

"Brian!" Thea exclaimed with concern.

"If I don't help him, we're next on the menu" he said quickly springing to his feet getting twenty feet closer than quickly trying to pick off the onslaught of Nibel wolves.

"I haven't heard of a Nibel wolf attack in some time" Claudia said with shock.

"Brian had mentioned an attack three months ago, but not this many wolves were involved" Thea reacted taking out a small firearm of her own.

"I have no weapons" Claudia lamented. Thea frantically looked around on the ground gathering stones that could be thrown.

"Here, if they start coming close, throw these"

"Um..." Claudia stammered looking for a way she could help but Thea was already running to join her boyfriend with her firearm in hand.

When Glenn's gun ran out of ammunition and he threw it down drawing his big iron axe which was secured on his back. The barrage of bullets had only hit three of the six wolves and only one was actually slowed down by the hits. The young man knew it was going to be a brutal fight. Then he heard another loud shot fired as the one closest to the young man preparing to lunge at him was shot knocking it back. Glenn didn't have time to thank his newest ally but gripped his axe with both hands drawing it back preparing for lunging wolves on multiple fronts.

One wolf decided to target Brian as he began firing another grazing shot. He quickly tried to reload his rifle but knew there wouldn't be enough time to get a nice well aimed shot so he drew out his machete. The Nibel wolf came raging down with great momentum to pounce as Brian stoically remained in a defensive stance prepared to stab hoping for a killing blow. Just as the wolf made the lunge, a single shot was fired hitting that wolf stunning it giving Brian just the opportunity he need to easily stabb it in its side letting go of his weapon as the wolf went tumbling lifeless on the ground. Thea had her smoking gun well aimed as she stood there adrenaline flowing.

Glenn went into a wild momentous swing which connected cutting through three of the Nibel wolves and then he came back around a second time landing a fatal blow in a fourth wolf. The wolf that had initially attacked, dashed passed Glenn and had its sites on the softest target which was Claudia. Glenn was busy finishing off the trio that had attacked him but Thea saw exactly where the wolf was going.

"Claudia! Watch out!" Thea yelled.

Claudia didn't have time to be scared, this wasn't her first time encountering monsters. She had watched her dad slay two nibel wolves and many kyuvildun. She frantically grabbed a few stones and began throwing them at her charging attacker. The first stone missed, the second was a grazing hit, and by the time she was about to throw a third stone, she decided to grab a stick lying close by. The wolf was closing the gap.

"Hey monster!" Glenn tried to run to get to Claudia and distract the beast from her, but it was to no avail. Thea fired another shot hitting it, but it didn't slow down. Claudia hoped the stick she grabbed would at least give her some protection as she prepared to potentially be bitten. As luck would have it, a loud shot out of Brian's rifle echoed as it blasted the wolf causing it to stumble and skid to a stop less than five feet in front of Claudia.

While Brian and Thea inspected the dead and dying Nibel wolves, they finished the job of ending their lives while Glenn made sure the monster that was attacking Claudia was no longer a threat. Brian had gotten a clean headshot neutralizing it. Claudia stood starstruck and shocked at the same time staring at Glenn speechless while processing everything that had just happened.

"Um Claudia? Are you alright?" Glenn finally looked up at her standing there still shocked looking at him completely speechless.

Claudia tried to respond, but nothing came out. She saw the double spin axe attack that Glenn had executed, it reminded her of a similar attack her father had performed one time fighting a pair of Nibel wolves with a woodcutting axe but it wasn't a double spin nor as precise as Glenn's. Glenn noticed the basket of food and jars of Banora juice.

"All of that fighting has worked up an appetite... sure wouldn't mind some of that" Glenn suddenly remarked.

"Sorry..." Claudia suddenly reacted giving Glenn the other half of her sandwich and the remaining bit of her Banora juice. Glenn smiled and took it gratefully and sat on the blanket next to her spot. Thea and Brian returned a bit surprised by the scene they were now seeing.

"Just make yourself at home" Thea smiled sincerely.

"Yes, please eat up" Brian echoed. Glenn stopped in mid-bite not sure if they were being sarcastic or sincere.

"Is this your food? I thought..." Glenn said apologetically.

"No, no, you saved us" Thea thanked.

"Exactly, had you not been around, I'm not sure the three of us would have come out unscathed. So eat as much as you like" Brian agreed. Glenn smiled and continued eating ravenously as if he hadn't eaten in a couple of days. He looked filthy and ragged, but Claudia didn't care, he still looked amazing to her. After ten minutes of Glenn eating anything that he was offered including a Banora apple, an orange, another ham sandwich with cheese and tomato, and two bread rolls, he thanked them graciously.

"Thanks, I haven't eaten in a day or two, but I guess we should report this incident to the Nibel watch" Glenn concluded.

"Those Nibel wolf pelts should fetch us about fifty gil a piece" Brian surmised.

"Did all of you eat before this attack?" Glenn said wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

"A couple of bites and sips here and there, but frankly I think I can wait until dinner to eat anything else" Thea admitted her loss of appetite.

"That goes double for me, I'll save my appetite for her mother's good cooking" Brian admitted looking at the wolf blood on his machete.

"I think I can wait too, momma usually had something good in the evening..." Claudia trailed off looking to Glenn as he stood up inspecting his large iron axe.

"That sounds good..." he trailed off looking up at Claudia.

"I think we should call it a day and return back to town" Thea suggested.

With that, they collected their basket, plates, mugs, jars, and the blanket, then they began their march back down the big hill toward town without incident. All while Claudia kept staring at Glenn and couldn't believe she was walking with him. When they passed the Shinra manor, Glenn passed a disdainful but defeated look and continued. Once they arrived back in town, Brian explained everything to the Nibel watch on duty. Two young men with hi-powered firearms and machetes like that of Brian's. The Nibel watch assured them they would report the incident to Mayor Weston. Mayor Weston was a middle aged man who had been head of the town council for over ten years.

"Well we're heading home, if you're up to help me get those wolf pelts later you can join me" Brian said to Glenn.

"Sure, I just need to get lodging for the night which I'm sure Claudia here can help me with... right?" he said winking at her.

"Yea, right!" she nodded with excitement.

"You two stay out of trouble until then" Thea laughed as she and Brian returned home leaving Claudia and Glenn alone.

"Well, let's head toward the inn so I can arrange a room for you" Claudia confidently suggested.

"Sure thing, lead on little lady"

The two walked through town toward the inn drawing a couple of gazes from a couple of townsfolk.
