(Charlotte's Sick Day)

*March 11th, 1941*

*11:21am*

It was a rather beautiful morning as Charlotte was laying in her bed as she was caught with a fever as there was knocking on her door which prompted her to say something.

"Come in.." Charlotte had spoken in a raspy tone of voice as she coughed as she heard the sound of the door opening to reveal her mother.

"Are you doing okay? Here's some warm tea to help you with your sore throat and Anya and Nancy are on their way as well.." Mrs Smith (a young 40 year old woman with a ponytail as she wore typical 1940s housewife clothes) had spoken to her daughter in a warm tone of voice as she set the warm tea down on the small table that was by her daughter as she was met with a smile from her.

"Thank you mother. I truly appreciate it…" Charlotte had thanked her mother as she continued to cough as she had carefully taken a sip from the warm tea before placing it back on her table.

"I don't want you to lose your voice by calling me so here is this bell if you need anything from me but please get plenty of rest as well once your friends leave, okay?" Mrs Smith had advised towards her daughter as she gently put a small brown bell on the small table as she exited out of the room as Charlotte was left alone.

"Anya and Nancy don't have to stress themselves by coming but I'm so glad that they did. It's always comforting to know that you have friends that's always there for you…" Charlotte had thought to herself as she began to cough which made her drink her warm tea as she heard more knocks coming from the door.

"Charlotte, May we come in? It's me and Nancy." Anya had asked Charlotte from the other side in a comforting tone of voice as this prompted her to answer back.

"S-Sure, I-If you must…" Charlotte answered back in the same raspy tone of voice as she heard the sound of the door opening which brought a smile on her face as she was happy to see her two friends.

"Hey, are you feeling okay? You've been sick since Sunday so we thought we missed school so we could check on you" Anya had asked her friend in a tone of concern as she sat beside the wall while Nancy followed suit.

"It's not much but I hope that our presence can make you feel just a little bit better.." Nancy had also spoken to Charlotte with a small smile on her face as this prompted her to speak.

"Thank you both for visiting me. It truly means alot since I felt lonely for most of the morning but now that my two best friends are here. I don't have to worry anymore…" Charlotte had spoken to both of her friends as she coughed once more as she eventually saw Nancy right by her as she handed a small cough drop that was in the wrapper in which made her smile.

"Here's a cough drop so try sucking on these cause it's gonna soothe your throat since I can tell that it's quite sore" Nancy advised her friend as Charlotte accepted her advice and offer as she put the cough drop in her mouth.

"T-Thank you, My good friend…" Charlotte uttered in the usual raspy voice as she continued to suck on the cough drop as this was watched by Nancy who had taken a good look at her beautiful long brown hair.

"Did anyone tell you that your hair is beautiful? It truly makes you stand out…" Nancy had complimented her friend as her words made Charlotte blush madly as she began to speak.

"Thank you so much. I usually like to wear it in a pigtail-like style but many people say long hair looks rather good to me!" Charlotte had spoken back to her friend as she did a faint chuckle at the last part of her sentence as this made Nancy and Anya chuckle as well.

"My mother and aunties all had long hair but my three older aunts usually kept it held up while my mother's hair was still long so I can relate to that as well" Anya had chimed in as well as the conversation made Charlotte's day just a little bit better as this was noticed by her in which made her smile as there was sounds of knocking on the door in which prompted Charlotte to speak once more.

"Please come in…" Charlotte had answered as her mother had entered the room with sandwiches and grape juice for Anya and Nancy while there was Oatmeal for Charlotte in her hand which was met with smiles from the trio.

"I knew that you girls were getting hungry so I fixed up some lunch for everyone but I hope everyone enjoys their wonderful meals" Mrs Smith had spoken to the girls as she gently handed over the two plates and cups of sandwiches and grape juice to Anya and Nancy as she was met with appreciation.

"Thank you so very much. We truly appreciate it and everything that you are doing for us" Anya had thanked Mrs Smith with a smile on her face while Nancy followed suit.

"Thank you so much for the meal, It really means alot to us" Nancy had thanked Mrs Smith as well as both girls began to eat their lunch as this brought a smile to Mrs Smith's face.

"You are most welcome. I'll do anything in my power to ensure that my guests enjoy their say" Mrs Smith had spoken back to the girls as she gently placed the Oatmeal on her daughter's small table as she placed her hand on Charlotte's head to check her temperature.

"It's still pretty warm but it shows that you're starting to feel just a little better. Keep resting up and keep drinking that tea and you'll feel better and no time, okay?" Mrs Smith had advised her daughter in a gentle tone of voice as she was met with a nod of agreement from her.

"Thank you so much, mother. I will definitely take your advice…" Charlotte had spoken to her mother with a warm smile on her face as she saw her mother smiling back before leaving the room as the sounds of the door closing was heard.

"Your mother seems nice…" Nancy had uttered towards Charlotte with a smile on her face as this caused Charlotte to nod with agreement.

"She is! My mother always makes sure that I'm feeling okay at all times but I'm so glad that you and Anya came to visit me. It truly means alot to me…" Charlotte had spoken back to Nancy as she felt tears rushing down her face as she eventually saw Anya giving her comfort.

"That's what friends are for. My mother always taught me to spread kindness no matter what. I feel like we were all lonely before meeting each other so It feels odd that there's people out there that care for us but just know that we're gonna be friends, no matter what! Just like how my mom and Kaede were friends…" Anya had spoken to Charlotte in a comforting tone of voice as she was met with a nod of understandment from Charlotte.

"She's right, We don't care about who you like or anything. It's your character as a person that truly matters…" Nancy had added on to the conversation as she gave Charlotte both a smile and thumbs up.

"Sorry to get all sappy but It's always good to just let certain tears come out but once again, Thank you both for coming to see me…" Charlotte had thanked both of her friends once more as she gently wiped the tears from her eyes and smiled at her two friends as this was seen by Nancy.

"I never knew John Claude or Natasha, my real parents but I know that my adoptive parents treated me with kindness which led me to do the same amongst my peers. Were my real parents bad? Were they good? I will never know the answer but at least I know that Anya and Charlotte's actual parents are good and loving people…" Nancy had thought to herself as she looked out of the window to see the beautiful afternoon sky as the sun shined beautifully in their rooms.
