Summary: A tragedy unravels the Weasley Family and the WIzarding World forever, but with the use of a time turner can one Weasley save them all?
Chapter 4
Lex had not slept the night after visiting Hermione in the hospital. Part of it was nerves, part of it was Finn loudly packing up his things and threatening to end their entire relationship since she had picked Scorpius over him. In the end, she did not fight back with him. She was exhausted and hurt that he had known about this potential way to save her family and didn't tell her. She also just didn't have the strength to fight for him, not when she didn't know what a new future could potentially hold for her if she was able to fix everything and save her family.
So by the time Lex arrived at Harry's office in the Ministry, she was absolutely exhausted. She entered to find her uncle at his desk and Kingsley, Cho, and Scorpius already there as well.
"Are you alright?" Harry asked his niece, seeing that she looked a little peaky.
"Tired. Didn't sleep much," Lex dismissed her uncle, deciding not to tell anyone about Hermione's strange behavior or Finn's dramatic exit.
"Well, we just filled Scorpius in on everything," Kingsley said.
"And we have all your paperwork in order," Harry handed Lex a large folder.
"What's this?" Lex asked.
"Your ministry paperwork, to make you both appear as legitimate Auror transfers. We didn't use your real last names on them, but your first names match," Harry said.
"I am a legitimate Auror," Lex said.
"Well he isn't," Harry said, also handing Scorpius a file.
"Additionally, there is a letter to give my former self," Kingsley handed Lex a sealed envelope. "We explained everything in there and the plan we have come up with. I don't think it will be much of an issue. He's already aware of the prophecy based on one we're sending you back."
"And what's the plan?" Scorpius asked.
"You will be set up to partner with Ron and Harry. Best not to tell them who you really are. Really just protect Hermione and figure out who the attackers were and hopefully that will lead you to destroying the prophecy or at least retrieving it so we can understand it," Harry said.
"Well, that sounds easy," Lex said sarcastically.
"You will do just fine. We believe in you," Cho said with a smile.
"And if we do all that, how do we get back?" Scorpius asked.
"Well, in theory, if you do all that, you alter time, and you wouldn't have to come back because you would have never gone in the first place in the new timeline," Harry explained.
"That sounds...complicated and possibly...not real," Lex said.
"There are certain risks with this. Are you sure you want to do this?" Kingsley reminded them as he held out the time turner.
Lex and Scorpius looked at each other and both nodded. They knew they had to do this.
"Very well," Kingsley said as he twisted the time turner.
Lex landed hard on top of Scorpius, knocking the wind out of him. She slowly opened her eyes, feeling as if the time turner had ripped her head in two and then put it back together.
"Bloody hell..." Scorpius rolled over to get Lex off of him.
"Sorry," Lex said, pushing herself into a sitting position and taking in their surroundings. They had landed in a small alleyway right outside the Ministry of Magic in London. Everything looked as how she remembered, except the clothing and vehicles of muggle London looked like they were from another time.
"I guess we made it," Scorpius said as he stood and helped Lex to her feet.
Lex nodded, grabbing the small backpack that she had put an extension charm on to bring her things with her. "We should head to the Ministry."
Scorpius nodded and followed suit toward the bathroom entryway to the Ministry from Muggle London. The two parted ways for a moment and then were reunited inside the Ministry.
"It looks the same," Scorpius looked around. Even if they were nearly thirty years in the past, the inside of the Ministry looked nearly the same as the Ministry Scorpius spent most of his days at.
"Guess the Wizarding World ages slower..." Lex said, moving toward the Ministry of Magic's office.
"Wait, where are we going?" Scorpius asked.
"We have to give this to Kingsley," Lex held up the enclose she had been given earlier.
Scorpius nodded and followed Lex up to Kingsley office, where she knocked on the door. A moment later, the door opened and Kingsley stood there. Surprisingly, Kingsley looked exactly as he did in the future.
"Woah...you don't age..." Lex said.
"Can I help you?" Kingsley asked.
"Uh...yes," Lex handed Kingsley the note from the future.
Kingsley opened the letter and read through it for a long moment before quickly pulling both Lex and Scorpius into his office and closing the door behind them.
"Well, I guess I should start by saying welcome," Kingsley threw his arms out.
Lex looked at Scorpius and then back at the minister."Uh...thanks."
"Now I understand everything in this letter, and I can't say I'm shocked by any of it. We have noticed an uptick in activity here. We certainly want to be able to thwart the attack on your mother, Miss Weasley," Kingsley said.
Lex nodded.
"The letter also mentioned a prophecy...one that could have been stolen from the Department of Mysteries around this time pertaining to Hermione or her child in some way. I am sure we can give you all access to look there for that," Kingsley continued.
"Brilliant," Scorpius spoke up for the first time.
"But before we do that, let's get you settled. I'll get you partnered with Potter and Weasley...the story is you are transfers from our American office," Kingsley said.
"Great. Are we going to do that now?" Lex asked, realizing she was so eager to see her father again, even the younger version. She had missed him so much.
"No, I need to get some things settled first and Weasley and Potter would have headed home by now anyway. Come by first thing in the morning. I have a small flat you all can use as home base not far from here. Go get settled there," Kingsley said handing Lex a piece of paper with an address on it.
Lex nodded and she and Scorpius moved out of Kingsley's office just as quick as they had walked in there.
Ron Weasley made his way up the front steps of the home he shared with Hermione in small, mostly Muggle village after a long day of work. He and Hermione had been married a little over a year and it had been the best year of his life. They had grown closer in ways he could have never imagined and he was so thankful every day to have her as his wife.
He opened the door, expecting to be greeted by Hermione but instead was met with an Owl from Kingsley himself, letting Ron know he needed to see him early the next morning in his office.
"Blood hell..." Ron mumbled under his breath. The last thing he wanted to do was show up to work early.
"Ron? Is that you?" Hermione's voice came from upstairs
"Yes," Ron yelled up.
Hermione stuck her head out of the bedroom, fixing her hair back into a simple bun. "Dinner is in the kitchen. I'm sorry but I ate already. It was getting late and I was getting tired."
"No problem," Ron trudged up the stairs and have Hermione a chase kiss before walking past her into their bedroom.
"Are you not going to eat?" Hermione followed him into the bedroom absolutely shocked. Ron never skipped meals if he could help it.
"I ate a bit at work. At any rate, I'm bloody exhausted and just got an owl from Kingsley saying I needed to be in the office early tomorrow," Ron sighed, pulling his shirt off and flipping down on their bed.
"Did he say why? Is there something going on at work?" Hermione asked.
Ron shrugged, closing his eyes. "Didn't mention specifics just that he needs me there early."
"I'm sorry. I know you have been working so hard," Hermione leaned down to kiss him once more.
"Come to bed with me," Ron smirked, grabbing at Hermione's waist but not bothering to open his eyes.
"Let me just finish getting ready for bed," Hermione smiled, moving into the bathroom and closing the door behind her.
Once Hermione was alone in the bathroom and certain Ron would not come barging in, her hand quickly grabbed something off the counter. She stood straight and looked at herself in the mirror, taking a deep breath before looking down at the object in her hand. When she did, her free hand quickly went to over her mouth in excitement and she let the object in her hand fall back onto the counter. It was a muggle pregnancy test and it read "positive". Hermione was pregnant.
