(Letter from the Army)

*December 20th, 1941*

*12:25 pm*

*Wright Manor*

Calvin sat in his room, pondering to himself after reading his letter from the US Army.

"Damn, it seems that I might have to serve in the war. I never thought I'd see the day." Calvin spoke to himself while letting out a smile; however, it wasn't one of joy but rather one of nervousness.

"Well, I guess I'll have to tell Anya and the others. I leave on Christmas so it's best to tell them right away to avoid any more worries." Calvin spoke to himself once more before getting up from his bed and heading toward the door.

After this, Calvin would exit the room and quickly head downstairs while unknown to him, Louise watched him from her room door.

"Dear Brother..." Louise uttered to herself in nervousness as she continued to watch her brother heading downstairs.

*Charlotte's Room*

*1:50 pm*

Anya, Charlotte, and Nancy sat in the comfortable room while discussing plans for Christmas and the rest of their break while also bringing up Calvin.

"I hope Calvin is okay. He's been quiet for the last few days. I've even talked to Louise and she told me that it's a personal issue that the family isn't ready to discuss." Anya spoke to her friends worriedly while Charlotte and Nancy nodded in agreement.

"I hope so as well. I mean, I think it could be Calvin joining the army. We are in a war right now…" Charlotte responded in a worried tone of voice while Anya quickly spoke up.

"I seriously hope that's not the case. I mean, Calvin has told me about this but I'm assuming it's all talk…" Anya spoke to Charlotte in response to what she just heard while her friend nodded understandably.

"Well, I'm sure Calvin might tell us the news in the coming days, but how does Judith feel about this? I know she's worried about his quietness as well, and they're extremely close!" Charlotte spoke to Anya once more while waiting for a response from her friend.

"Judith is feeling worried like the rest of us. I talked to her yesterday and she told me that Calvin was quiet. He didn't even tell her about what could be going on…" Anya responded seriously while Charlotte and Nancy nodded understandably.

"I see. It's that or something serious if he's not telling Judith out of all people so I'm hoping things work out for Calvin in the end." Nancy spoke to her friends as well while Anya looked out of the windows.

"I hope so. We graduate in two years and I want everyone to be alive to see it.." Anya responded to Nancy with a slightly sad but disappointed voice while she continued to stare out of the window.

Charlotte noticed this and gently hunched over to hug her friend from behind, which made Anya slightly smile.

"We're going to get through this together, okay? The only thing we can do is continue to pray and hope for the best for Calvin, okay? Please don't worry too much." Charlotte advised Anya in a sincere voice while hugging her tightly from behind.

The hug made Anya smile warmly as she gently placed her hands on Charlotte's arms.

"Thank you. I'm just worried about Calvin's future, but like you said, we must continue to hope for the best." Anya responded with a smile while Nancy began to speak.

"She's right. It's terrible that Calvin is going through things, but just know that things will go smoothly, okay?" Nancy spoke to her friend in a gentle voice and these words made Anya smile at her friends.

"Thanks, I needed that," Anya responded with relief in her voice while getting up from the floor to stretch.

"I'm going to take a small walk to clear my mind, I'll be back, okay?" Anya spoke to her friends before heading toward the door while Charlotte and Nancy nodded in an understanding way.

"Of course, we'll let you clear your mind for a bit so we'll be waiting for you right here, okay?" Charlotte responded to Anya with a smile while her friend nodded understandingly.

"Okay, and it's only going to be ten minutes so I won't be gone for too long or anything," Anya responded to Charlotte once more before heading her way to the exit.

After this, Anya would grab her winter clothes from the hangar and put them on before heading out of the room.

This was seen by Charlotte and Nancy as both girls were worried yet happy at the same time for their friend.

"I hope Anya is okay.." Nancy thought to herself while she continued to think about her friend.

*Outside*

Anya exited Charlotte's home to begin her walk, and she walked for a few minutes.

"I hope Calvin is okay. If he's truly going to the army then I wish him nothing but the best; however, I wish he would just tell us already.." Anya thought to herself before sighing to herself as she looked up at the snow falling from the sky while being stuck in her thoughts.

Anya continued staring at the sky for a few more moments before being interrupted by a rather familiar face, and it was none to her than Cynthia.

"Hey girl, what's with the sad face? My doppelgänger should be cheerful, like me." Cynthia greeted Anya with a smile which made Anya turn around to greet her friend.

"Cynthia!? It's great to see you again, how have things been? And I've been thinking about things.." Anya responded joyfully while hugging her friend as Cynthia began to speak.

"I've been doin great, and thinkin about what? You don't have to tell me but you're not your usual cheerful self today.." Cynthia responded with a mixture of joy and seriousness in her voice while waiting for an answer.

"That's good, and it's just I've been worried about Calvin since…well…the war.." Anya responded as she looked down at the floor. Cynthia's expression turned into a concerned one as she gently placed her hand on Anya's shoulder.

"Oh yeah, things are gettin serious these days so I'm not surprised at that, and don't tell me Calvin is joinin the war?" Cynthia responded to her friend in a serious voice while Anya shook her head with uncertainty.

"I don't know. I tried to call Calvin, and his family told me that he was busy. I've even tried to call Judith and she was just as lost as me." Anya responded in a worried voice and this made Cynthia's eyes widen with surprise as she spoke once more.

"Wait?! Hold the phone! You and Judith are friends now?! What in the world happened!?" Cynthia uttered to Anya in shock while waiting for an answer. Anya chuckled for a bit despite feeling worried before smiling at her friend so she could answer the question.

"It's a long story but Judith is changing her ways so me and her are friends now, it's crazy, right?" Anya responded while Cynthia shook her head in denial.

"Not at all! I was caught off guard with the news since it's Judith and all but I'm glad that you and her are friends now." Cynthia responded while Anya nodded.

"Same here, and wanna join me on my walk? I could use the company right now despite me wanting to be alone." Anya offered Cynthia while her friend quickly accepted her offer.

"Of course. Anythin for my friend. I know things are tough right now, but just know that I'm always here for you, my friend." Cynthia kindly responded to Anya and this made her smile brightly once more.

"Thanks! Same for you." Anya responded once more as she and Cynthia began their walk.

The girls would begin walking together in the snow while unknown to them, Calvin was watching them from afar.

"Anya, how would I ever tell you? I leave in two days…" Calvin thought to himself while shedding a tear in his eyes before turning around to walk away to whatever destination he was planning to go.
