Down in the depths of Hell, The Devil is almost recovered from his severe injuries from his last attempt to kidnap Gwen. He sits in his fine chair in his library ripping out pages of a book in anger, figuring how to kidnap Gwen and marry her. Henchman rolls in with a new cart after his last one got destroyed with a pot of tea and a paper cup to avoid the Devil's anger with his regular cups.
"Duh, hey boss, you're almost lookin' like your old handsome-self again!" Henchmen complimented.
The Devil growled furiously as he kept ripping out more pages. Henchman poured tea into the paper cup and served it to the Devil. The Devil sips his drink, looks in the reflection of the tea and remembered what Gwen said to him after she beat him up,
"No matter what you've done, I thought there was a speck of decorum in you! I was willing to give you a chance to redeem yourself and be friends with you! But I was wrong; monsters like you never change!"
The Devil screamed loudly and shot a fire blast with his pitchfork at the paper cup and the cart once again. Henchman stood there with the cart burnt to ashes with a shocked look on his face. The Devil angrily yelled,
"That's it!"
The Devil gets up from his chair, breathing heavily and walked up to the magic mirror and tapped it.
"Show me the girl!"
The Devil ordered the mirror. It showed the Devil Gwen drawing in her sketchbook while Cuphead and Mugman playing the Dirk Dangerous arcade game.
"Hmm, lounge time huh?" The Devil asked himself.
As the Devil watched Gwen, Elder Kettle comes into the room, preparing to leave the cottage.
"Boys! Gwen! I'm off to play cards with my buddies now!"
Elder Kettle walks past them, opens the door and asks,
"You remember the two rules while I'm gone?"
"One: Don't touch the radio." Cuphead said.
"Two: No fighting." Mugman finished.
"That's right boys! Now remember, Gwen's in charge 'til I get back! Got that dear?"
"Yes, Elder Kettle." Gwen answered.
"Good girl." Elder Kettle said and leaves the cottage.
Meanwhile, the Devil watches Elder Kettle get in his truck and drove away.
"So, that old tin can's off to play cards huh? Hmm…"
The Devil thinks for a while as Henchman arrives.
"Boss, you gotta stop trying to kidnap that human. It's making you crazy and you keep getting more injured every time. Just focus on torturing and collecting souls. It's what you do best."
Henchman advised once again, trying to reason with his boss.
"Wait! I think I've got it! Instead of taking her by force, why not have her employer do it for me?" The Devil snickered.
"Aw jeez boss. What are ya gonna do now?" Asked Henchman.
"I think I'll invite myself to his card game and make things more… interesting." The Devil explained his evil scheme.
"Oh no. Are you gonna use her boss to snatch her?" Henchman guessed.
"Precisely Henchman. You know how easy mortals are to trick with card games? I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse! Henchman, get her personal prison bedroom ready!"
The Devil ordered Henchman. Then, he grabs his pitchfork and floats away. Henchman stood there and said,
"I hope he knows what he's doing this time."
He leaves to get the prison bedroom ready.
At a local tavern. Elder Kettle and his friends were sitting at a round table, sipping root beer and playing cards, having a great time. It was almost time for Elder Kettle to leave and head back home to the cottage and says goodbye to his friends. Elder Kettle was alone at the table ready to leave until he is approached by a cartoony gentleman in a nice suit in a hat.
"Evening!" The gentleman greeted.
"Oh, hello. I was leaving so good night."
Elder Kettle said, got up from his seat until he is stopped by the gentleman.
"Wait, you're quite a card player I see! I wanna try my luck with you!" The gentleman offered.
"No thanks, I'm tired. I gotta get home to the family I love." Elder Kettle argued.
"Oh, come on! Just one more game?" The gentleman pleaded.
Elder Kettle groaned and said,
"Oh fine! One more!"
The gentleman sits down and Elder Kettle shuffled the cards and passed each other cards. They start the game and after a while, Elder Kettle and the gentleman each win a round.
"Best two out of three?" Asked the gentleman.
"No, thanks. That was fun but I'm done." Elder Kettle protested.
The gentleman thinks for a moment and asked,
"How about we raise the stakes?"
That got Elder Kettle's attention and asked,
"What do you mean?"
The stranger raised a verified coupon to his mustache waxer and said,
"If you win, I'll give you a year's worth of weekly mustache waxes. But if you lose, I'll take something of great value to you."
Elder Kettle grew worried and asked,
"What do you mean 'great value'? Like my truck or my radio?"
"You might say that." The gentleman snickered.
Elder Kettle wasn't sure at first.
"Oh, did I mention the mustache wax prices have gone up lately?" The gentleman said.
Elder Kettle's eyes popped and said,
"Alright fine! Let's play."
So, they play one more game of cards. The gentleman smiled evilly as he magically changed his cards to the winning ones and wins the game.
"What the? How did I lose?" Asked Elder Kettle.
"Just pure luck my friend. Now then, I'll just come by your home later on and I'll take something of great value to you."
Elder Kettle was nervous and quickly leaves the tavern, gets in his truck and drove back to the cottage. Elder Kettle arrives home and quickly gets in the cottage. Gwen was in her white spaghetti-strap nightgown without her headband and comes downstairs barefoot and asks,
"Hey, Elder Kettle. How did it go?"
Elder Kettle was acting nervous and holds on to his radio. Gwen is concerned and asks,
"Are you okay? What happened?"
"Oh, Gwen. I think I did something terrible!" Elder Kettle fearfully answered.
"What? What did you do?" She asked.
"I met this gentleman who wanted to play one more game, then he raised the stakes with a years-worth of mustache wax visits or he would take something valuable to me!"
Gwen's eyes widened, she started to get suspicious.
"Wait a minute. What did this gentleman look like?" Gwen asked.
"Uh, he was human-like wearing a nice suit and a hat and held a cane." Elder Kettle described.
Gwen thinks some more and asked,
"Did he have red eyes, fangs and horns on his head? Did he speak in an English accent?"
Gwen described a certain demon. Elder Kettle thought for a moment and said,
"Oh yeah! He did speak with an English accent!"
"Oh no! I don't think that was a gentleman! I gotta go!" Gwen said fearfully.
Gwen runs upstairs to her room and uses the inkwell to pack all her things in her satchel. Gwen puts on her slippers and goes back downstairs and is about to go out the back door when a knock is heard at the front door.
"Go! I'll give him the radio or the truck!" Elder Kettle whispered.
Gwen nodded and quietly slips out the back door and goes into the woods behind the cottage. Elder Kettle takes a deep breath, opens the door and sees the gentleman outside.
"Oh, uh. You're here already?" Elder asked nervously.
"Yes, I am. I'm here for something valuable to you."
Elder Kettle grabs his radio and handed it to the gentleman.
"That is not something valuable to you I want."
Confused, he puts the radio back on the table and handed him the truck keys.
"Not valuable to you enough." The gentleman said.
"Well, what do you want? Those two are the only things valuable to me!" Asked Elder Kettle.
"True those two are valuable to you. But you have something much more valuable to you than those piles of junk."
The gentleman looked behind Elder Kettle and realized the back door wasn't closed all the way.
"Wait a minute! She's gone, isn't she?"
"Who?"
Elder Kettle pretended not to know what he was talking about. The gentleman growled and magically disappeared right in front of Elder Kettle.
"No!"
Elder Kettle yelled and ran out the back door to find Gwen. Elder Kettle ran through the forest until he heard Gwen's yelling noises.
"Oh no!"
Elder Kettle continued his search for Gwen.
Meanwhile, Gwen was struggling to evade capture from the Devil as she kept running. The Devil used his pitchfork and levitates Gwen up and into his arms and magically ties her arms to prevent her from reaching her ink pen and gags her with a cloth gag.
"Stop it dear! You're coming with me whether you like it or not!"
The Devil scolded her as she kept fighting him as the elevator appeared from a fiery portal. Henchman opens the door and says,
"Uh, boss are you ready?"
"Ugh! Almost! This girl is feistier than ever!"
The Devil said as he struggles to keep Gwen still in his arms. Remembering her self-defense training, Gwen does a headbutt attack and hurts the Devil on his head.
"OW!"
The Devil cried in pain, drops her and she jumps on his feet.
"OUCH!"
She dives under his arm and runs away until the Devil finally loses patience.
"ENOUGH!"
The Devil roared angrily and blew a fiery tantrum, forcing Gwen fall down to the ground to avoid the fire blown at her. Gwen was breathing heavily through her nose and sweating from her struggle. After the Devil caught his breath, he walked up to her, scooped her up in his arms and said,
"You've gotten stronger than the first time we met. Impressive I admit it. Now stop fighting me!"
Gwen groaned in her gag and was carried into the elevator while Henchman takes her satchel. Elder Kettle arrives too late and sees Gwen tied up and gagged in the Devil's arms.
"Pleasure doing business with you! Couldn't have done it without you!" The Devil called out.
Gwen's eyes widened at Elder Kettle being tricked into losing a bet with the Devil in disguise. The elevator door closes and disappears into the ground.
Inside the elevator, The Devil said,
"See, Henchman? I told you mortals are easily tricked into card games!"
"Uh, yeah boss, you did. I believe you. And it actually worked."
Henchman answered back, feeling unsure how long this would last this time.
Gwen hung her head down, in defeat, now angry at Elder Kettle for letting this happen. Henchman removes the magic inkwell and her ink pen from her belt. They arrive in Hell and the elevator door opens and the Devil and Henchman stepped out in to the throne room and headed in a new direction that wasn't near the dungeon. Gwen studies the area for possible escape routes and hiding spots.
After a while of walking, they arrive at a door, Henchman grabs a key, unlocks the door and the Devil carries Gwen inside what appeared to be a bedroom, bigger than her bedroom at the cottage. The Devil lowers Gwen down on a queen-sized bed as she gives him an angry look. He holds her shoulders to keep her from headbutting him again and says,
"This is your new personal room slash prison I made just for you since you didn't seem to like the dungeon last time."
Gwen groaned in her gag and hung her head down in despair. The Devil lifts her head and says,
"Now that I brought you back, I'm gonna make sure you don't escape from me again."
The Devil magically removes Gwen's restraints and the gag. Gwen sat there, saying nothing as she glared at him in anger and sadness.
"Uh boss, I got her stuff, want me to lock up the magic inkwell and ink pen?" Henchman asked.
"Yes Henchman, go ahead."
Henchman walks out of the room to lock up the inkwell and ink pen. The Devil looked at Gwen tearing up and said,
"Oh, I know this seems bad now, but trust me. You'll learn to love it."
The Devil wiped her tears and reaches his fingers in her hair and pulled something out.
"It's too bad you won't be needing this anymore."
The Devil said as he held the bobby pin she used to escape last time and took it away.
"Well, you should get some sleep dear. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow."
The Devil walks towards the door and says,
"Oh, I wouldn't try anything if I were you. I got eyes all over the place this time."
The Devil closes the door and locks it. Gwen gets up and tries to open the door but it was locked so she looks around and finds nothing useful to help her break out of her confinement, but no luck. Gwen could do nothing but wait until morning. So, she takes off her glasses, places them on the lamp table and lays in her comfortable bed and quietly says to herself,
"Don't worry, Gwendolyn. If he thinks he can keep me down here again, he's wrong! I escaped this horrid place before, I can do it again!"
Gwen tries to calm herself until she finally goes to sleep.
The next morning, Gwen wakes up in the same room and was sure it was no nightmare this time and thinks about what to do now. Gwen gets up and notices her usual dress, belt, boots, and accessories were left for her hanging on a hanger on a room divider. She gets dressed, and noticed she had a personal bathroom with a new tooth brush, toothpaste and a hairbrush. Gwen washes up, brushes her teeth and hair.
Just then, she hears a few knocks at the door, Gwen backs against the wall and hears Henchman call,
"Uh, Miss Emmons? Are you awake ma'am?"
Gwen thinks for a moment, then gets an idea. She quietly grabs the bedside lamp and hides behind the room divider. She hears the door unlock and Henchman enters with a cart with a teapot and a cup and says,
"I'm coming in ma'am!"
Henchman looks for Gwen until suddenly… BONK!
Henchman is knocked out with stars circling his head. Gwen puts the lamp back on the nightstand, looks outside the door to see if the coast was clear. Thinking it was clear she sneaks out of her room and hides behind a rock. She looks for where her ink pen and inkwell were being kept until she noticed they were locked up in a cabinet across the hall. Gwen picks up a rock and looks around to make sure it was clear. Then, she quietly sneaks up to the cabinet and prepares to smash the glass. Just as she was about to strike the glass, she is suddenly stopped by the Devil as he grabbed her wrist, takes the rock from her and she struggled to attack him.
"Good morning my dear, I figured you were gonna try something!"
He lifts her on his shoulder and walked back to her room as she struggled to break free. He noticed Henchman was knocked out and yelled,
"Henchman! Get up and get rid of those pain stars!"
Henchman regained consciousness and stood up and waved his arms to make the stars go away.
"I told you this would happen! I just happened to around when I caught her! Do I have to keep doing everything around here myself?!" The Devil shouted.
"Uh, sorry boss! She's so cunning! I didn't see it coming."
"Just go get the dining room ready! I'll take it from here!" The Devil ordered Henchman.
Henchman flies with his little wings and leaves to get breakfast ready. The Devil carries her and places her back on the bed, grasps her shoulders and angrily says,
"I warned you not to get any ideas! Because now, I'm not letting you out of my sight!"
Gwen glared at him and said nothing. The Devil catches his breath and says,
"Now then, shall we?"
He takes her hand and leads her outside her bedroom and Gwen looks around for more possible escape routes and ideas.
They arrive in the dining room and a long table with both ends set up for breakfast. Henchman pulls a chair and gestures her to sit down. Gwen reluctantly complies and sits down. She sinks her head in her hand, fiddles with the silverware as the Devil sits down and yelled,
"Henchman! Where's our breakfast?!"
Henchman quickly rolls in a cart with two breakfast plates of toast, scrambled eggs and bacon with two glasses of orange juice along with cups of coffee. Henchman served his boss first, then he served Gwen next as she continued fiddling with her silverware. The Devil notices as he was eating and says,
"You know dear, you haven't said a word since I brought you here."
Gwen briefly glanced at the Devil then back at her silverware. The Devil thinks for a moment, gets an idea and says,
"I'll tell you what, after breakfast I'll take you with me on a grand tour of my beloved realm. How does that sound?"
Gwen thinks for a moment, then decided to take advantage of this, pretends to still be sad and nods.
"Wonderful! Now, eat up! We haven't got all day!"
Gwen started eating and finishes her breakfast. Afterwards the Devil takes Gwen's hand and leads her around Hell as she studies the area with Henchman tagging along.
"This is my throne room my dear. My beautiful tapestries are hung over here."
Gwen looks at the three tapestries of the Devil in three different forms, torturing souls and she is unimpressed.
"And this is my special throne. Where yours truly loves to sit and boss everyone around!"
Gwen is still unimpressed and sighed out of boredom. The Devil grumbled and said,
"Fine, I'll make things more… exciting".
The Devil got up to his throne, pulls a tassel and makes it spin around, revealing a piano. The Devil started playing a jazz song and sings about how fun evil can be and how she'll love being his wife. Henchman gets up and helps his boss with the turning the sheet music as he played. Gwen takes advantage of the moment to sneak off and go for the cabinet again.
After the song, the Devil is out of breath and said,
"Now, that was exciting! Huh, dear?"
The Devil noticed it was quiet and quickly realized she was gone. The Devil growled furiously again and gets up and goes after her. She was about to break the glass on the cabinet and the Devil once again stops her from breaking the glass with a rock. He takes the rock and yelled at her,
"What did I tell you about escaping me?!"
Gwen struggles to fight him until the Devil lifts her up and carries her back to the throne room. He places her down on the steps and angrily says to Henchman,
"Don't let this girl out of your sight!"
"Y-y-y-yes sir! Sorry sir!" Henchman fearfully said.
Henchman keeps a close eye on Gwen as she folded her arms in despair.
"Now then, on with the tour!"
The Devil said and takes Gwen's hand again and leads her to the area where imps were running a network of the sins committed around the two worlds, both Earth and the Inkwell Isles.
"This is where all the sins of the two worlds are being monitored by my workers here!" The Devil explained.
Gwen looks at all the machines and then something else caught her eye. She walks up to a monitor and sees her hometown of Boston and realized something. An imp comes up to her and says,
"Oh, this is where we were tracking the magic inkwell and we traced it to your hometown and where we learned it was you who found it and took it away before the boss could. Here, I'll show you."
The imp rewinds a tape and shows Gwen footage of that fateful day she found the magic inkwell, tested it out and took it home. Gwen was now more curious for more answers and asked,
"Could you play what happened that night? I need to see something."
The imp fast forwarded it to the moment the Devil kidnaps her, knocks her unconscious and lured her parents into her room and he taunted them and disappeared in the elevator. Gwen watched in horror at her mother crying and her father yelling in anger.
"He made them witness me being taken?" Gwen asked.
"Oh, yeah. He loves making people very miserable. Your parents were no different. He made them miserable by taking what was precious to them: you." The imp answered.
Gwen's eyes widened and said,
"I thought Rose was more precious to them than I was. She was always their favorite while I was a disappointment for being a free thinker. But at least Rose loved me and we had each other."
"Maybe. I dunno. I'm not an expert on families." Answered the imp.
Gwen thought maybe her parents were wrong about trying to force her to go through with the arranged marriage. The Devil comes up to Gwen and said,
"Alright, if you're finished walking down memory lane, shall we?"
The Devil leads Gwen away from the monitor and away from the imps.
Gwen was wondering how her family was doing since she chose to stay in the Inkwell Isles. The Devil leads her to another area where he summons his finest demons. A bunch of giant monstrous demons were lineup and roared and growled.
"This here is my finest demons! My personal army!" The Devil announced.
Gwen looked at them in horror and attempted to run away but the Devil takes her hand and says,
"Don't be scared dear. I forbade them from hurting or eating you."
Gwen stays behind the Devil as Henchman kept an eye on her. While the Devil was discussing some business with his army, something else caught her eye. She spots a mirror hanging on a wall under some curtains and decided to look in it. Gwen gazed at her reflection as Henchman watched her closely.
"That's no ordinary mirror, Miss Emmons. This mirror allows the Boss to watch anyone anywhere in the two worlds."
Gwen decided to try something.
"I'd like to see my parents, please." She ordered the mirror.
The mirror showed her parents in the human world in their home talking to her sister Rose and her fiancé William. Gwen listens to their conversation on Rose putting the wedding on hold until Gwen is found and safe at home.
"Mama, papa. I don't want to go through with the wedding until I have my sister and maid of honor back. None of this would've happened if you haven't always been too hard on her!" Rose snapped.
"You said you both saw the Devil himself enter her room and took Gwen away just like that?" William asked, confused.
"We know what we saw William!" Edgar argued.
"I still have nightmares about that night! Like the look on that monster's face when he took her!" Margarine added.
Gwen was stunned that her family does miss her and want her back in their lives.
"Wow, you didn't know they missed you, did you ma'am?" Henchman asked.
"No, I-I had no idea." Gwen answered, feeling guilty.
Gwen looked at the mirror again and watched her parents hug each other. Rose is hugged by William and has tears in her eyes. Gwen has tears in her eyes and hugs the mirror like she were there with them. Henchman is moved and almost has a tear in his eye.
Just then, the Devil called,
"Henchman! Get over here!"
Henchman hurries over to his boss and asked,
"Uh, yeah boss?"
"I'm sending them off to terrorize more souls now. Get ready to open the gates!" The Devil ordered.
Henchman hurries to the lever and the Devil yelled,
"RELEASE THE DEMONS!"
Henchman opens the gates and the demon army leave Hell and start their way to terrorize souls.
Meanwhile, Gwen once again took advantage of this opportunity and tried her luck again with the cabinet. The Devil sighed happily and,
"Ah, nothing makes me happier than sending my finest demons to do my bidding! That and having my lovely fiancée here with me. Right dear?"
The Devil didn't hear a response and realized she was gone yet again. The Devil growled furiously and was about to go after Gwen until he hears a familiar voice scatting and arriving.
The Devil's self-proclaimed number one King Dice arrives, carrying Gwen on his shoulder.
"Your number one has arrived fashionably late! And look who I caught trying to get away!"
King Dice announced as he puts Gwen down and puts his hands on her shoulders to keep her from running off. The Devil sighed and sarcastically said,
"Nice work, Dice."
"No problem Big D!" King Dice proudly replied.
The Devil takes Gwen from King Dice and said,
"Now get back to your sanitation duties! I think we're done with our tour today."
King Dice quickly leaves as the Devil escorts Gwen back to her room. The Devil sits Gwen down on her bed and angrily says,
"It seems you didn't like the tour I personally planned just for you! For that, you get to spend the rest of the evening without dinner! That should give you plenty of time to be grateful for what you're going to go through for all eternity once we seal the deal!"
The Devil leaves her room and locks the door. Gwen groaned and laid in bed, upset and angry. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't escape Hell.
"What do I do now?" She quietly asked herself.
All Gwen could do is just lay in bed and wait for something to happen. Meanwhile, the Devil eats dinner alone and grumbled. Henchman enters and asks,
"Aw what's the matter boss?"
The Devil sighed and said,
"I don't know what to do about that girl! She's not cooperating and is still resisting me!"
"Well boss, maybe one of us should talk to her. Make her comfortable here and show her that life here is nice. You know, show her compassion and understanding."
The Devil groaned and said,
"Maybe. Since you're so good at that stuff, why don't you do it? Make her come to her senses because she won't listen to me!"
"Oh alright, I'll try."
Henchman said and leaves the Devil alone to eat.
Back in her bedroom and prison, Gwen continued to lay in bed, trying to think of another escape attempt. Just then, she hears a few knocks at the door and hears Henchman,
"Uh, Miss Emmons? It's me."
Gwen rolled in bed to avoid eye contact and just laid there. Henchman unlocks the door and comes in with a plate of food.
"Aw ma'am, don't be sad. I know it's hard adjusting to this place, but it'll be okay."
Henchman said as he puts down the plate of food and silverware rolled up in a napkin on the nightstand.
"I don't get it. It gets worse every time I deal with him. Why do I have to put up with his balderdash?" Gwen asked frustratingly.
Henchman sits next to her on the bed and says,
"Well ma'am, maybe if you give the boss a chance, you might like it here. The boss isn't all that bad once you get to know him."
Gwen's eyes popped, she remembered a familiar time she tried to befriend him, which turned out to be a ruse to kidnap her.
"I don't know. I trusted him once, and it almost got me back here when he stabbed me in the back! How can I possibly give him a chance after all he's done to me?" Gwen asked after recapping her betrayal.
"Yes, ma'am I know the boss is a trickster and most of the time hot-headed. But I know he cares about you. He's just not good at showing it. I'm just saying, maybe if you stop the escape attempts and give this place a chance, you'll be happier here." Henchman advised her.
Gwen thinks for a moment, then she gets an idea and says,
"You know, maybe you're right. I probably should give it a chance."
"That's the spirit ma'am. You want me to tell the boss you're willing to give it a chance?" Henchman asked.
"Sure." Gwen answered.
"Great! Now, eat up ma'am but don't tell the boss I brought this for you."
Gwen gets up, eats a filet mignon with roasted red potatoes and green beans. Henchman takes the dishes and says,
"Now, get some sleep ma'am. Tomorrow's another day." Henchman leaves and locks the door.
Gwen goes to sleep, having a new plan to start first thing in the morning.
The next morning, Gwen wakes up and notices a new pink dress and new white shoes we're hanging on the room divider. Gwen gets ready for the day and makes herself look pretty. She hears a few knocks at the door and hears Henchman call,
"Uh ma'am, are you awake? I'm coming in."
Henchman enters with a cart with a cup and a pot of tea. Henchman flinched, fearing Gwen was going to knock him out again. But to his surprise, she just sat on her bed, acting like nothing was wrong and said,
"Morning."
"Oh, good morning, ma'am. You didn't even try to hit me on the head this time. Thanks, by the way."
Henchman pours her a cup of tea and hands it to her. Gwen takes it, sips the tea as the Devil enters her room and says,
"Well, someone's on her best behavior this morning. So, are you willing to give this a chance as Henchman told me yesterday?"
Gwen looked at the Devil and nodded, keeping her cool.
"Hmm, alright then. Shall we then?"
The Devil leads Gwen to the dining area, eat breakfast together and once again started his tour around Hell. Only this time, Gwen stopped trying to escape and participates with the Devil with his duties.
Later that evening, Gwen is in the Devil's library and is reading a book called The Death of the Heart by Elizabeth Bowen on the carpet by the fireplace as the Devil keeps an eye on her as he sat in his chair. Henchman comes and says,
"Hey boss, dinner's ready!"
"Excellent!"
The Devil gets up from his chair, helps Gwen on her feet and says,
"You know, you've been really good today unlike yesterday. What did Henchman say to you?"
"Well, he convinced me to give this a chance. So, I decided to stop trying to escape and to my surprise, I actually enjoyed today. Your imps are really funny guys, I can't believe you hardly ever give them breaks. Henchman is really a nice guy too." Gwen admitted.
The Devil was shocked and said,
"Oh, it's nice to see you're finally cooperating. Now, let's go eat dear."
The Devil takes Gwen's hand and leads her back to the dining area and both feast on lasagna and Caesar salad. For dessert, they eat Devil's food cake with vanilla ice cream.
Just then they hear a nasal-like voice call,
"Uh, excuse me!"
The Devil growled and yelled,
"What now Stickler?! Can't you see I'm enjoying my time with my beautiful flower?!"
A short big-headed imp wearing glasses and a bowtie enters with a book and says,
"We need to talk about something very important in private."
The Devil grumbled and Gwen looked at Stickler and asked,
"Hi, who are you?"
"I am Stickler. The auditor around here. My job is to count all the souls and make sure everything's accounted for, Miss Emmons."
Gwen clearly saw he was a nerd-like imp that nobody around Hell seems to like.
"Oh, nice." Gwen said politely.
"Thank you, ma'am. Now, if you'll excuse us, Miss Emmons. I have to talk to the boss here."
Stickler said as he leads the Devil away from the dining area.
"Henchman! Keep an eye on her!" The Devil ordered.
"Uh, yes boss!" Henchman called and watches Gwen as she continued eating dessert.
Stickler leads the Devil to another area and the Devil angrily says,
"What now? Is this about the cup's soul again?"
"No, it's about the human you brought here, Gwendolyn Mae Emmons."
"What about her, Henchman's keeping an eye on her." The Devil said impatiently.
Stickler opens his book and says,
"There is a complication with the human you seek to marry."
"What? What do you mean complication?! I've chosen her to be my bride and we're gonna be married soon!" The Devil argued.
"Furthermore, the bylaws of Article 14, Section 3, Paragraph 5 specifically signifies that the marriage with said human cannot be official if you haven't been granted her parent's official blessing to marry her, which you currently don't have. Therefore, your pursuit of marriage to that human you have here is… unauthorized." Stickler explained.
The Devil stood there in shock and was about to lose his temper again until he calmly said,
"Oh, Stickler. It's like I said to her: I'm going to marry her, one way or another. I don't need her stupid parent's blessing!" The Devil argued.
"But without their blessing, you can never marry her." Stickler pointed out.
The Devil growled furiously, then he leaves to rejoin Gwen in the dining area.
"Ugh! How could this day get any worse?!" The Devil grumbled.
When he enters the dining area, he is surprised to see Henchman knocked out with stars circling his head again.
"What the?! Henchman! What happened?!"
Henchman gets up and said,
"I was handing her that book she was reading, when all of a sudden, she headbutted me and I blacked out."
The Devil looked around and noticed she was gone.
"Oh no!"
The Devil runs to the cabinet and to his shock, he finds King Dice knocked out too with the soap bucket. The Devil looks at the cabinet and discovers the glass was broken and the magic inkwell and ink pen were gone.
The Devil runs into her room and finds her satchel and stuff all gone too.
Just then, Stickler walks in and says,
"Oh, by the way, she told me to give this to you."
The Devil noticed Stickler held a note in his hand. He snatches the note and reads aloud,
"Devil, I'm sorry it had to come to this but… Surprise! Now, you know how it feels to trust someone and then get stabbed in the back. Did you think I wouldn't take it personally when you did that to me at the ball? Well, I'm leaving now and I'm not coming back! So, leave me alone or else my attacks are going to get worse! Negative heart, Gwen. P.S., tell Henchman, 'Thanks for letting me out of his sight' and remind King Dice he missed a spot while I mopped up the floor with him. And thank you for letting down your guard like you did to me. Now, we're even… sucker!"
The Devil growled and threw a fiery tantrum and burnt the bedroom. The Devil stormed back in the dining area and yelled,
"How could you let this happen?!"
"I'm sorry boss! How was I to know she was faking it all along? She's a pretty good actress!" Henchman fearfully explained.
The Devil pointed to a corner and yelled,
"To the corner! NOW!"
Henchman groaned and went to stand in the corner for his failure. Just then, the Devil steps on a red-painted 'x', then he hears a 'snap' sound and the Devil looks up and saw a giant boulder drop down on him.
"Oh no…"
The Devil said fearfully when all of a sudden… CRUSH!
The boulder crushed the Devil, thus injuring him again. The Devil groaned as he struggled to call for help to remove the boulder from on top of him.
Meanwhile, Gwen arrives outside the cottage in the elevator and steps out and sends it back to Hell. Gwen goes inside and the cups were inside and looked at Gwen and both yelled,
"Gwen! You're back!"
Cuphead and Mugman run up to Gwen, jump in her arms and hug her.
"Guys! I missed you so much!"
Gwen said, feeling happy.
"We thought he married you!" Said Cuphead.
"How did you escape this time without the inkwell?" Asked Mugman.
"My self-defense lessons from my trainers and my acting lessons from Sally Stageplay have paid off!" Gwen explained.
"Plus, I finally got even with him for back-stabbing me at the ball." She finished.
"Oh, good for you Gweny!" Cuphead complimented.
"We figured you would!" Mugman added.
Elder Kettle runs in the room and says,
"Gwen! You're home! Oh, this is wonderful!"
Gwen glared at Elder Kettle, raised her glowing ink pen and said,
"Yeah, I'm back, no thanks to you! How could you do this to me?!"
Gwen yelled as she backed him against the wall.
"I'm so sorry, Gwen! I never meant for any of this to happen!" Elder Kettle fearfully apologized.
Cuphead and Mugman glare at Elder Kettle for being tricked by the Devil and Cuphead said,
"How could you let that jerk trick you into losing a bet? You almost got Gwen taken away forever!"
"I'm sorry boys! I'll make it up to all of you! I promise! I'll do anything!"
Gwen thinks for a moment and asked,
"Anything?"
"Yes! Anything!" Elder Kettle answered.
The cups whispered an idea to Gwen and she laughed.
"Well, since you're always promising us to take us places and then when it's time to go and you say 'you can't remember', I'm gonna make sure you keep your promises this time. We're gonna have 'family fun night.' Tonight." Gwen explained.
"Oh no." Elder Kettle said fearfully.
That night, they stop at the movies and watch a new movie, which Mugman wanted. Next, they go to the amusement park and ride all the rides, which Cuphead wanted. And finally, they stop at the Inkwell Art Museum, which Gwen wanted.
Afterwards, they all head home in Elder Kettle's truck and they all head inside as Elder Kettle is exhausted from driving them all over town and goes upstairs to bed. Gwen magically unloads her stuff back in her room as the cups join her and Mugman asked,
"So, Gwen. Did you learn anything while you were down there?"
Gwen thought for a moment then said,
"Well, I learned how my family was doing without me. I learned that they miss me and that Rose is delaying her wedding with William until I'm home. Mama and Papa are traumatized by my disappearance."
"Oh wow. What are ya gonna do?" Asked Cuphead.
"Well, I don't wanna move back in with my parents. I think I'm just gonna go pay them a visit at home when I feel ready. Just to let them know I'm okay and maybe patch things up between us. And Rose won't have to delay the wedding because of me." Gwen explained her plan.
"Well, we can go with you if you want." Cuphead offered.
"Yeah, we were thinking that we wanna meet your family." Mugman added.
"Thanks guys."
Gwen said and they all head off to bed and Gwen puts on her invisible sweater just in case and sleeps peacefully, happy to be home.
