After breakfast, Gwen and her friends decided to head out to the icy tundra to obtain the icy sugar cubes. They arrive near the tundra until they realize it was starting to get very cold.

"Oh my. I better dress us warm." Gwen said.

"Please do. I'm starting to freeze." Cuphead agreed.

Gwen magically dresses everyone warm for the winter. They enter the tundra and come across an ice-made stadium.

"You think this is where this Freeze guy is?" Mugman asked.

"It's gotta be. Chef Saltbaker said so." Gwen answered.

Just then, they hear chanting noises.

"Hey, what's that noise?" Ms. Chalice asked.

"It sounds like… chanting." Clarence said.

"Come on, let's check it out." Gwen said.

"We need to be careful sis." Rose advised.

"I know. That's why I have you." Gwen assured her.

Rose smiled as they enter the ice stadium. They enter and notice a large group of anthropomorphic snow people chanting. The group looked up the stadium seats and notice an obese ice-skinned man with a beard wearing a purple cloak and wizard hat leading the group, revealing himself to be Mortimer Freeze.

"Uh, guys? I think this is… a cult." Rose whispered.

"Yeah. Let's wait till they're finished." Gwen whispered.

They watch the snow people chanting and Mortimer raised his crystal ball and three tarot cards appeared. They showed an image of the magic inkwell, a human and ice cubes.

"Hmm… It looks like we are expecting someone…" Mortimer said.

Just then, a little icicle with other icicles spotted the group.

"Trespassers! At the entrance!" The icicle called.

Everyone turned and looked at the group and gasped. Mortimer looked and noticed Gwen with the magic inkwell. Before the group of icicles could attack, Mortimer yelled,

"STOP!"

Mortimer flew up from his ice throne and flew down to the group.

"This is the human the cards foretold was coming!" Mortimer announced.

"What?" Gwen asked confused.

"Ah, the human who carries the magic inkwell. We've been expecting you." Mortimer said.

"Uh…" Gwen said, now more confused.

"Come in, come in. Right this way." Mortimer greeted.

The group follow Mortimer to the cult.

"What's all this?" Gwen asked.

"Welcome to my snowy group. Here, they join me, and they all gain happiness in return." Mortimer explained.

The three humans looked confused.

"But where are my manners? My name is Mortimer. Mortimer Freeze. Can I get you anything? Ice cream, popsicles, snow cones?" Mortimer offered as he magically made a parlor appear with seats.

"Uh…" Gwen hesitated to answer until the cups interrupted.

"Ice cream!" All three cups exclaimed.

Mortimer magically gives the cups each an ice cream cone and they started eating.

"We'll have ice cream too." Gwen politely answered.

Mortimer magically hands the humans ice cream cones.

"Gwen! We'll be more colder!" Rose whispered.

"Rose, just go with it! We need these people to like us!" Gwen whispered back.

"She does have a point." Clarence agreed.

The humans started licking their ice cream cones to be polite.

"So, that you're all refreshed, what can I do for you?" Mortimer asked as he was eating a snow cone.

Gwen gathered some courage.

"We've come to earn the icy sugar cubes." Gwen bravely answered.

Mortimer choked on his snow cone.

"You… want to earn some icy sugar cubes?" Mortimer asked, trying to understand.

"Yes please. I've already earned the gnome berries, the distillery dough and the pineapple mint. I'm on a quest." Gwen explained.

"Hmm…" Mortimer said.

He magically summons his crystal ball and it started glowing until three more tarot cards magically appeared. Mortimer looked at them and it showed images of a human, the Wondertart and a soul.

"Are you sure you want to earn my icy sugar cubes? The cards are telling me you will be in great danger." Mortimer warned.

"I know. Our worlds are in danger. That's why I'm collecting these ingredients." Gwen explained.

"No… you will be in danger." Mortimer corrected her.

Rose's eyes widened.

"W-what do you mean?" Gwen asked.

"If you collect those ingredients, you will be given great power. Which for a mortal, can be very dangerous. Yet again, the worlds are in danger." Mortimer warned.

"Oh boy." Clarence said worryingly.

"Are you willing to take that risk to save our worlds?" Mortimer asked.

"Yes." Gwen bravely answered.

"Well, if you really want my icy sugar cubes, you will need to face… a challenge." Mortimer said.

"What is it? Can we get this over with?" Gwen asked.

"Patience young human. First, I need to prepare." Mortimer said.

Mortimer used his magic to lighten up the stadium and cleared the arena. He magically seated his cult members and Gwen's friends in the audience stands.

"I hope Gwen doesn't get iced." Rose said worryingly.

"Maybe it won't be so bad." Clarence said, trying to calm her down.

The cups continue eating their ice cream cones.

Gwen stood in the arena looking around at the snow people staring at her. Mortimer took his seat in his throne.

"Gwendolyn Mae Emmons! Are you ready for your challenge?"

"Yes." Gwen answered.

"For your challenge, you're going to play… a game." Mortimer said.

"What game?" Gwen asked.

"A game of… snowball fighting!" Mortimer announced.

All the snow people cheered.

"Snowball fighting? That's it?" Gwen asked, feeling disappointed.

"For your challenge, you will face my champion." Mortimer said.

"Who's your champion?" Gwen asked.

Mortimer grabbed a little bell out of his cloak pocket and rang the bell. Just then, a giant snow monster in chains was dropped from the sky, and everyone cheered. Gwen looked at him in horror, realizing her opponent was a giant snow monster.

"Oh wow! He is huge!" Mugman exclaimed.

"Behold my champion! Jupiter!" Mortimer announced.

Everybody cheered for Jupiter as Gwen started to get worried.

"Now, then. Here are the rules. You try to hit each other with snowballs by any means necessary. The last one standing is the winner." Mortimer explained the rules.

Gwen gulped as she noticed Jupiter looking at her, clenching his fist and punched his hand, gesturing he will beat her.

"Now then, let's get this snowstorm started!" Mortimer announced as everyone cheered.

Jupiter prepares himself for the battle while Gwen gets out her ink pen making snowballs. Gwen knew she needed to outsmart the giant snow monster somehow.

"Ready…!" Mortimer called.

Jupiter scooped a large snowball.

"Get set…!" Mortimer continued.

Gwen prepares herself for the battle as she held a snowball in her hand.

"FIGHT…!" Mortimer yelled.

Jupiter threw the large snowball at Gwen. With quick thinking, she quickly jumped out of the way as the snowball hit the wall. Gwen used her ink pen to throw her first snowball. But it did no good as it barely affected Jupiter, making him laugh.

"Uh oh…" Gwen said worryingly.

Jupiter threw another giant snowball at her. Gwen tried to jump out of the way, but the impact of the snowball splatted her down to the ground. Jupiter proudly bowed at the audience until Gwen weakly stood up, now angrier than ever.

"So… you wanna play rough… do you?" Gwen angrily asked.

Gwen used her ink pen to scoop up more snow. She aimed at Jupiter's mouth and shot a line of snowballs like bullets at Jupiter's face, temporarily blinding him. Then she attacked again by shooting the snowballs in his mouth, making him choke.

Just then, Gwen shot a giant snowball at Jupiter's head, knocking him to the ground.

"Taste your own medicine you big snow pile!" Gwen yelled.

Jupiter spat out the snowballs and got up on his feet, now angrier at Gwen. He growled and he used his own body to turn into a snowball.

"Uh oh…" Gwen said worryingly.

Jupitar charged at Gwen as she used the inkwell to levitate herself in the air. Jupiter leapt up and tried to knock her down but Gwen dodges as they find themselves outside the arena and into the open tundra near the water. She notices a large orange whale peeking out of the water, licking his lips, hinting that he wants to eat her.

"Oh no, not again." Gwen said worryingly.

Gwen needed to act fast to save herself. Jupiter charged at her again as a giant snowball. She quickly gets an idea and faced Jupiter. At the last moment, Gwen teleported herself out of the way, causing Jupiter to fall into the whale's mouth. Gwen reappeared near the stadium as she watched satisfyingly at Jupiter getting eaten instead of her.

"And to think that could've been me." Gwen said to herself.

The whale realized his mistake too late and spits out Jupiter. He weakly approaches Gwen, trying to attack her, but he passes out from almost being eaten.

Gwen caught her breath, knowing she had once again succeeded another challenge. Mortimer flew down to Gwen and raised her arm up.

"We have a new champion!" Mortimer announced.

Everybody cheered as Gwen was escorted back into the arena. Her friends come down to Gwen and cheer for her victory.

"For your triumph over my champion, I hereby present to you your prize: the icy sugar cubes!" Mortimer announced as he handed Gwen a pail full of icy sugar cubes.

Gwen smiled, feeling proud of herself once again. Rose hugged Gwen once again happy not seeing her get killed.

"That teleportation was quick thinking! But you could've been eaten… again!" Rose scolded.

"Yeah, but I learned something from the other battles." Gwen explained.

"What's that girlfriend?" Ms. Chalice asked.

"Brain over brawn. He was the brawn; I was the brain." Gwen answered.

"Oh." Both cups said.

"Oh, mind over muscle. Clever." Rose said.

"Yep." Gwen confirmed.

"Nice job love." Clarence complimented.

Both Gwen and Clarence kissed as she looked at Mortimer.

"Well, we should be going. Thanks again." Gwen thanked.

The group leave the tundra back to the warmth of the town. Gwen magically removes their warm clothes as they head back to the town. Gwen looked around in the sky for the ladder to drop down to her.

"Huh, I guess the King of Games has no match for me. I could use a break anyway from all that fighting." Gwen said.

"Yeah, I agree. We need a break. What do you guys wanna do?" Clarence agreed.

Everyone thinks until Rose noticed a spa.

"Hey, wanna go get massages?" Rose asked.

Gwen and Clarence looked at the spa.

"I could use a spa day. Especially after all I've been through these past few days." Gwen agreed.

"Yeah, us too." Mugman agreed.

"Lucky for us, I've won us bags of gold. What do you guys say?" Gwen asked her friends.

"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!" All three cups exclaimed.

They all go inside the spa and Gwen ordered all her friends premium packages. Gwen, Rose and Clarence get massages while the cups get their massages in the kid's section.

Later, Gwen, Rose and Ms. Chalice relax in the ladies' steam room while Clarence, Cuphead and Mugman relax in the men's steam room.

"I really needed this girls." Gwen said, finally feeling relaxed.

"Yeah. We deserve it." Rose agreed, feeling relaxed herself.

"Best… vacation… ever." Ms. Chalice said.

"Chalice, we're not on vacation, remember?" Gwen reminded her.

"I know, but we need to get our minds off the mission. After all, we've got one ingredient left to find!" Ms. Chalice said.

"I know. The desert limes are all we need to get the Wondertart." Gwen said.

"Gwen, we still need to ask Saltbaker what's really going on. What he's planning to do." Rose reminded her.

"Yes, very true. I just hope he hasn't caught on to you for spying on him." Gwen said.

"No, I was hidden when I was in the secret laboratory." Rose assured her.

"Oh good." Gwen sighed of relief.

Later, their time at the spa was over and the group leave, feeling fully relaxed. Suddenly, the ladder dropped down from the clouds.

"Oh, now he's ready for me?" Gwen asked.

Gwen summoned Cerulean Bolt, everyone hopped on and flew up to the floating palace. Gwen approached the King of Games once again.

"Hello again, your majesty. I see you're ready for me." Gwen greeted.

"A clash of force and finesse awaits you this fine day!" King of Games greeted.

The door opens for Gwen. She noticed a nook chess piece above the door, realizing the Rook was her next opponent.

"Okay, Rook. Let's get this over with." Gwen said as she leaves her items behind and enters the palace.

She enters a dungeon-like hall where she noticed the Rook chess piece daydreaming while holding an axe in his hand behind a grinding stone. Suddenly, he noticed Gwen's presence and snapped out of his daydream and started sharpening his axe. Sparks shoot at Gwen from the grinding stone as she dodged them.

Just then, severed heads and skulls shot out from the grinding stone, aimed at Gwen. Gwen quickly punched the heads at the Rook's head, making him groan in pain.

This gives Gwen an idea of how to beat the Rook. More severed heads and skulls kept shooting at Gwen as she kept punching them at the Nook's head until finally, she delivers a final blow, knocking the Rook's head off his body, thus winning the match.

"Off with your head." Gwen taunted.

Gwen leaves the palace and joins the King of Games.

"You dispatched that champion in so few rounds, brave lady. Thy reward? Wealth untold!"

The King of Games rewards Gwen another bag of gold.

"Thanks, your majesty." Gwen thanked as she prepared to leave.

"Furthermore… I permit thee special entry to the final match!"

Gwen's eyes widened as the King of Games used his scepter to switch his castle to the final door. Gwen looked up and noticed a queen chess piece statue above the door. She realized the Queen was her final opponent. The door opened as Gwen sighed.

"Okay, if I defeat the Queen, will I be done for good?" Gwen asked, losing patience.

"Aye fair maiden." King of Games answered.

"Fine." Gwen said as she entered the palace.

She enters a treasury room where the Queen chess piece was counting the gold where three little mice with three cannons were waiting for her. The Queen noticed Gwen's presence, shoved her table away and prepared to attack. Gwen figures out she needed to use the cannons to attack the Queen.

Gwen tried firing a cannonball at the Queen but missed the first shot. The Queen attacks my grabbing Fabergé eggs and the shot out treasures at Gwen. Another cannon was loaded, and Gwen carefully aimed at the Queen until she shot the cannon until it finally hit her in the head.

"Yes!" Gwen said happily.

Gwen kept up her strategy while avoiding getting hit by treasures and lion statues. Finally, Gwen delivered the final blow, making the Queen lose her head and fall back in her chair defeated.

The mice cheer Gwen on for her victory as she felt proud of herself winning the gauntlet. She exits the palace and meets the King of Games.

"Hark! To my new champion! The remaining spoils!" King of Games announced.

He rewards Gwen with a few more bags of gold.

"And with that, the tournament has concluded. Henceforth, my castle shall remain a training ground for thee!" King of Games continued.

"Really? Thank you!" Gwen thanked.

"Fare thee well champion!" King of Games said.

Gwen leaves with her friends back to the ground.

"Finally! The tournament is over and I'm the new champion!" Gwen said happily.

"Yeah, and you didn't get killed." Rose said.

"True. We should head back to the bakery. I wonder what Saltbaker's got cookin' for us this time?" Gwen asked.

"I can't wait!" Cuphead said excitedly.

They fly back to the bakery for dinner. Chef Saltbaker once again greets them.

"Ah my friends! Welcome back! You got the icy sugar cubes! How wonderful! You got one more ingredient and then I'll start baking the Wondertart!" Chef Saltbaker said happily.

"Yeah. It is wonderful. Now what's for dinner?" Gwen asked, still acting like nothing was wrong.

"For your delight tonight, I have prepared…" Chef Saltbaker said as he grabbed a platter.

"Leek, feta and potato pithivier!" Chef Saltbaker announced.

He served everyone a slice and they all once again eat and socialized with each other. After dinner Gwen looks at the four ingredients, feeling nervous. Chef Saltbaker comes up to her.

"Nervous?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

Gwen nodded.

"I know it's nerve-wrecking but trust me. It'll all be worth it." Chef Saltbaker assured her.

"Why are you helping me?" Gwen asked.

"What do you mean?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

"You've been so kind to me. You took us in to your bakery and home, you showed us where to find those ingredients. Why did you find it in your heart to help me?" Gwen asked, hoping she could get some answers without raising suspicion.

Chef Saltbaker sits next to Gwen.

"Because I know what it's like." Chef Saltbaker answered.

"What, what is like?" Gwen asked.

"To be helpless." Chef Saltbaker answered.

"What do you mean?" Gwen asked.

"Well, I too was helpless just like you were when you were first brought to our world. I had nothing, I was at the bottom of the barrel just like you once. Then, after being shown kindness, I used my baking talents, worked hard and opened this bakery we're in now and I am now the best chef in all the Inkwell Isles." Chef Saltbaker explained his story.

"Wow. I'm glad you got what you wanted." Gwen complimented.

"Thanks kid. And tomorrow, you're gonna get what you want to save the worlds and end this." Chef Saltbaker said.

"Thanks. I couldn't have done it with you, my sister, my fiancé and my best friends." Gwen said.

Gwen gives Chef Saltbaker a heartwarming hug as he hugged her back.

"Alright, get some sleep kiddo. We've got a big day ahead of us tomorrow after you get the desert limes." Chef Saltbaker said.

Gwen smiled and went upstairs to bed. Gwen gets in bed with Clarence and hoped that her kindness might make Chef Saltbaker change his mind for whatever he was planning.

The next morning, Gwen and her friends have breakfast together. Just as they were about to leave for the desert, Chef Saltbaker stopped them.

"Wait!" Chef Saltbaker called.

"What is it?" Gwen asked.

"I'm having trouble with my latest batch of chocolate chip cookies and I gotta get these orders delivered! I need one of you to help me!" Chef Saltbaker pleaded.

"Can it wait till later? I gotta get the desert limes." Gwen asked.

"You go get the limes. I need of you to help me." Chef Saltbaker said.

Gwen looked at her friends.

"Who wants to stay and help him?" Gwen asked.

They all looked at each other.

"Wanna draw straws?" Clarence asked.

Gwen magically makes a cup of five straws with one bright yellow straw. Gwen mixes up the straws and hands the cup to her friends. Each of them closes their eyes, grab a straw. The open their eyes and Rose discovered she had the bright-yellow straw.

"Well, looks like I'm staying." Rose said.

"Don't worry, we'll be back soon sis." Gwen assured her.

They leave Rose behind with Chef Saltbaker as she followed him into the kitchen.

"What's the problem?" Rose asked.

"My orders need to be delivered to my customers! Can you help me? I gotta make sure my cookies don't overcook!" Chef Saltbaker begged.

"That's it? You needed me to deliver your orders?" Rose asked confused.

"Yes, here's the boxes and where to deliver them." Chef Saltbaker said as he showed her a few boxes and the addresses.

Rose is unsure but goes along with it and goes into town to deliver the orders. After Rose delivers the orders, she returns to the bakery seeing Saltbaker relieved he saved his cookies.

"Okay, all the orders are delivered." Rose said.

"Wonderful! Now that it's done, I can get everything ready for the Wondertart." Chef Saltbaker said happily.

"Okay then, I'll go rejoin my sister. Be back in a while." Rose said as she attempted to leave.

"Wait!" Chef Saltbaker called.

Rose turned around.

"Before you go, I'd like to reward you with a treat." Chef Saltbaker said.

He pulls up a chocolate chip cookie from the baking sheet pan.

"I have an extra cookie from today's batch. Want one?" Chef Saltbaker offered.

Rose takes the cookie, but she started to get suspicious that there was something in the cookie.

"Thank you. I'll eat it later. Looks really delicious." Rose said, acting like nothing was wrong.

"What's wrong? Don't you like my sweets?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

"What are you talking about? Of course, I do. I'm just not hungry right now." Rose said, trying to hide her suspicion.

Chef Saltbaker looked at her.

"Well, I better get going…" Rose said nervously as she turned away.

But before Rose could go out the door… WHACK!

Rose was knocked in the head unconscious by Chef Saltbaker, holding a rolling pin. He looked down at Rose's unconscious body and smiled evilly.

After some time, Rose wakes up with a headache. She finds herself strapped to a chair in the secret laboratory. She is horrified that she's held prisoner as Chef Saltbaker walked into the secret laboratory.

"Ah, you're awake finally." Chef Saltbaker said.

"You… you lying manipulative traitor! What are you planning to do to my sister?!" Rose angrily yelled.

Chef Saltbaker clapped slowly at Rose.

"Congratulations. You discovered my little secret. I couldn't get those ingredients on my own. So, I needed someone to do it for me. Gwen was the perfect candidate to do that. The salt-tornado I unleashed into Inkwell City lured her here to me." Chef Saltbaker revealed.

"And the Wondertart?" Rose asked.

"Once the Wondertart is baked, the cosmic powers of the astral plane will be all mine." Chef Saltbaker said.

"You set us up. You set Gwen up. You disrupted the balance of the worlds. That's why Gwen was hearing those voices, because they needed her help to stop you!" Rose said, figuring it out.

"That's right! But there's just one little problem though. I forgot to mention the most important secret ingredient…" Chef Saltbaker said.

Rose's eyes widened.

"A secret ingredient?" Rose asked.

"Yes. Remember I told your sister heart and soul is the key ingredient?" Chef Saltbaker asked.

Rose sat there silent trying to think. Chef Saltbaker turned on a large machine with a glass jar attached to it.

"Well, I need a living soul… literally." Chef Saltbaker answered evilly.

Rose's eyes widened in horror.

"No! NO!" Rose yelled as she struggled to break free.

"You were poking your nose where you shouldn't have. You didn't think I'd find out, did you? And now…" Chef Saltbaker said.

"W-w-what are you gonna do to me?" Rose asked fearfully.

Chef Saltbaker held up the cookie he tried to give her.

"I have created the very first astral cookie! I managed to make it with my regular batch earlier. And you my dear have the opportunity to test it." Chef Saltbaker answered.

"No! NEVER!" Rose yelled.

"Unfortunately, you don't have a choice." Chef Saltbaker taunted.

Rose struggled to break loose as Chef Saltbaker activated a machine to hold Rose's head and forcefully open her mouth. Rose started screaming as Chef Saltbaker broke cookie down, placed it in her mouth and forced her to swallow it.

Suddenly, Rose was transformed into a ghost as Chef Saltbaker trapped her inside the glass jar. Rose noticed her new appearance and was horrified.

"What did you do to me?!" Rose yelled.

"I transformed you into a living soul. And when you are baked into the Wondertart, no one will stop me now! Not even your sister will be able stop me!" Chef Saltbaker revealed his intention to kill Rose.

"NO!" Rose yelled as she struggled to escape.

"So, there's no point to killing your sister for the power of the magic inkwell… yet." Chef Saltbaker evilly said.

Rose's eyes widened in horror as Chef Saltbaker laughed evilly.

"You won't get away with this!" Rose yelled.

"Just sit tight my dear. Your sister should be back soon anyway." Chef Saltbaker said as he grabbed his chef knife.

Rose was in grave danger now. She prayed her sister and friends will be back to rescue her in time before Chef Saltbaker carries out his evil plan.
