It was a sunny afternoon in New York City. Gwen and Clarence decided to take Cuphead, Mugman and Ms. Chalice to Yankee Stadium to watch their favorite baseball team called the Boston Red Sox play against their rivals the New York Yankees. Cordelia along with her boyfriend Virgil tag along and watch the game.

They watch the Red Sox star player named Babe Ruth hit another homerun.

"YAY!" All three cups cheered.

"Go! Go! Go!" Gwen cheered.

"Yeah!" Clarence cheered.

The cups eat their hot dogs and drink soda after cheering.

"This was a nice idea for a weekend activity." Gwen said.

"Yeah. I thought it'd be good to watch the Red Sox play against the Yankees." Clarence said.

"I hope Cordelia's okay with this. She hasn't been back here since she and you got your inheritance and sold off the mansion and everything after her parent's arrest." Gwen said, feeling concerned.

"I know. But she said she's cool with it. It's all thanks to you we both got justice and happier lives." Clarence said.

Gwen smiled and sunk into Clarence's chest. Just then, Babe Ruth hit another homerun when suddenly, the baseball whacked Cuphead in the face, knocking him down.

"Ooh! That's gonna leave a mark!" Clarence said as he winced at his pain.

"Hang on, buddy." Gwen said as she used her ink pen to heal his injuries.

Cordelia and Virgil watch the game.

"I have never been to professional baseball game before." Virgil said.

"Well, there's a first time for everything dear." Cordelia said.

She thought of something and felt sad.

"What is wrong, love?" Virgil asked.

"Oh. When I was a kid, my parents got tickets for life here because of my world-famous father. But they never took me. I was just a servant and punching bag to them. They cast me aside like I was nothing." Cordelia answered sadly.

Virgil held her hand.

"You listen to me my love. Those dark days are over. You are here now with your real family who love you. It is time to put your past behind you." Virgil said.

"Yes. I'm so thankful Gwen found me when she was looking for answers about Clarence's past. I never would've known I had a brother." Cordelia said.

"I am glad to hear you say that." Virgil said.

"Your mom and dad were the closest thing to real loving parents I've ever had. And Gwen is the closest thing to a sister I've had, even though we're gonna be sister in laws soon." Cordelia said.

"We are all family, love. And we make our future together." Virgil said.

"Yeah." Cordelia agreed as Virgil held her.

They all continued to watch the game until the New York Yankees won the game.

Meanwhile in Sing Sing Correctional Facility, in a prison cell, the once world-famous Harry Hopewell was sitting alone in his prison cell, thinking about how he once had it all. Fame, fortune and a lavish lifestyle. But now it was all suddenly taken away from him.

"How did I lose everything? How did the press find out about me? Who is to blame?" Harry asked himself.

Just then, a prison guard comes up to his cell.

"Hopewell! You got a visitor!" The guard yelled.

"Visitor? Who?" Harry asked.

"Some rich gentleman." The guard answered.

Harry is confused until a fancy-dressed human approached his prison cell. He gave a big menacing grin, which unsettles Harry.

"Hello… Mr. Hopewell." The gentleman greeted.

"Who are you? What do you want?" Harry asked impatiently.

"My are we in a grumpy mood. I just want to talk. I understand you have… questions about who was responsible for ruining your life?" The gentleman asked.

Harry's eyes popped.

"You do? Who?!" Harry asked, demanding to know.

"Uh! Uh! Uh! Before I reveal the name, there's something else you should know." The Genleman said.

"What else is there to know?" Harry asked.

"I'm sure you remember your firstborn child?" The Gentleman asked.

Harry's eyes widened but then remained calm.

"I once did but he died a long time ago." Harry lied.

"Are you sure? Let's look at your file." The Gentleman asked as he pulled a file from inside his coat with his name on it.

He puts on reading glasses and reads the file.

"Ooh! What's this? You had an affair with one of your maids, got her pregnant. But the poor thing died giving birth to your… son. You wanted nothing to do with him and had one of your servants dispose of him. Unfortunately for you, he didn't. He just dumped the boy in a Boston Orphanage." The Gentleman revealed.

Harry's eyes widened, feeling shocked at the revelation.

"H-h-h-how do you know that?"

The Gentleman snickered.

"I have my ways Mr. Hopewell." The Gentleman said as he put the file away.

"So, my son… is alive? After all these years? Where is he now?" Harry asked.

"Oh. So now you care? Clarence has grown up to be quite the handsome lad with a golden voice just like you." The Gentleman answered.

"Did he ruin my life as revenge?" Harry asked.

"Oh no. He didn't do it. His fiancée did." The Gentleman revealed.

"Fiancée? He's engaged? To whom?" Harry asked.

"Your soon to be daughter-in-law possesses great magic very powerful than you can imagine. She snooped around in her fiancé's past to learn about his parents and found out about you and your daughter. In fact, after you slapped her, the girl helped her and took her away from you." The Gentleman answered.

Harry couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"Wait, who are you really? You're not a gentleman, are you?" Harry asked suspiciously.

The Gentleman snickered as he magically made the escorting prison guard fall unconscious. Then he shapeshifted, revealing himself to be the Devil himself.

"Clever Mr. Hopewell. You're not stupider than you look." The Devil complimented.

Harry gasped in horror, being in the presence of the Devil himself.

"Jiminy Crickets! You're the Devil!" Harry exclaimed.

"The one and only!" The Devil said as he struck a pose.

"What do you want with me?" Harry asked.

"I couldn't help but notice your perfect life was taken away all because of one girl's actions and got you and your wife behind bars." The Devil answered.

"Who? Who is responsible?" Harry asked.

"A young redhead girl named Gwen Emmons." The Devil answered.

"Where do I find her?" Harry asked, feeling anger.

"Ooh. Angry, are we?" The Devil asked.

"I'm gonna make her pay!" Harry angrily exclaimed.

"I understand your hatred for her. There is one way you can do that. If you're willing to make a deal." The Devil said.

"How?" Harry asked.

"If you want to make her pay for her actions, you will take something precious to her. Let's say… her fiancé?" The Devil suggested.

"My son?" Harry asked.

"Oh yes. Your unloyal servant showed your son mercy and hid him far away. So, I'll give you the opportunity to finish what you started 21 years ago." The Devil offered.

"So, you want me to kill my son as payback to Gwen?" Harry asked, trying to understand.

"Of course. It will ruin her life like she ruined yours." The Devil answered.

Harry thought for a moment and got an idea.

"Alright then." Harry agreed.

"There is… one catch. If you succeed in killing your son, you will have your revenge. But if you fail, you will be in eternal servitude to me." The Devil warned.

The Devil reached his hand for a handshake.

"Deal?" The Devil asked.

Harry hesitated for a moment but finally reached his hand.

"Deal!" Harry agreed.

They both shake hands, the Devil burns Harry's hand, scarring him.

"OW!" Harry cried in pain.

"Now then, I know where those two lovebirds are now. So, in other words: You're free to go." The Devil said, transforming back to his Gentleman disguise.

The Devil snapped his fingers, and the cell door opened. Harry stepped out of his cell.

"Where do I find them?" Harry asked.

"I'll transport you there. But before I do that, there's one more little crucial thing." The Devil said.

"What's that?" Harry asked.

The Devil grabbed his shirt and pulled him up to his face.

"You are to only kill your son, but no harm is to come to Gwen! I want her alive! If you try to harm her, there will be consequences. Got it?" The Devil warned in his demonic voice.

"Yes! Yes!" Harry answered fearfully.

"Good!" The Devil said then finally tapped his pitchfork and both disappeared.

Later, Gwen and her friends leave Yankee Stadium.

"That was nice, even though the Red Sox lost the game." Gwen admitted.

"Look at the bright side, I got a free souvenir!" Cuphead said as he held up the baseball with Babe Ruth's signature.

"Yeah. Babe Ruth was kind enough to sign it for ya." Mugman said.

"Yeah. The Yankees have a winning streak going on." Cordelia said.

"Look, I know you grew up here and we grew up in Massachusetts. But we still cheer for our teams." Clarence said.

"Yeah." Cordelia agreed.

"Hey! Can we go get some ice cream?" Ms. Chalice asked impatiently.

"Okay." Gwen said.

"I know where we can get the best ice cream! Then I'll show you New York City!" Cordelia said.

"Yay!" Both cups cheered.

"Where, sister?" Ms. Chalice asked.

Cordelia leads the group to a local ice cream parlor, and they all get ice cream. The group decided tour around New York City, they travel using the subway to reach the Empire State building, the tallest building in the world.

They travel through Central Park, Times Square and the Bronx Zoo.

For the grand finale, they take a boat to Ellis Island and climb up inside the Statue of Liberty and get a beautiful view of the ocean.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Cordelia asked.

"Yes. It is beautiful." Virgil agreed.

"Yeah. Who knew this city is what you humans call 'the Big Apple' when there are no apples?" Mugman asked.

"Yeah Mugsy. Strange names we have for these cities." Gwen agreed.

"Well, I think that's enough adventure for one day. Let's head home." Clarence said.

"I agree bro. Gwen, would you take us home?" Cordelia asked.

"Of course." Gwen said.

She pulled out her ink pen and was preparing to teleport back to the Inkwell Isles. But before Gwen could tap her ink pen, a loud older male voice yelled.

"What's the rush?"

The group look and notice Harry Hopewell with messy hair and wearing a different outfit walk up the stairs and approached them. The cups panic and hide behind Gwen.

Cordelia's eyes widened, knowing exactly who he was. She quickly hid behind Virgil.

"What is wrong? You know him?" Virgil asked.

"I-i-i-i-i-it's m-m-m-my…" Cordelia struggled to speak until the man interrupted.

"Cordelia! I never thought I'd ever see you again. You ran away from the mansion after I disciplined you, you meet this freak magical girl and my long-lost son, which would result into my downfall." Harry said.

Gwen gasped, knowing he knew her secret.

"Wait a minute. Is he…?" Virgil was about to ask until the man interrupted.

"Her father. Yes, it is I. The glamourous, handsome and angel with a golden voice: Harry Hopewell. Or at least I was." Harry revealed himself.

Clarence's eyes widened, finally in the present of his father Harry Hopewell who wanted nothing to do with him as a baby and tried to have him disposed of.

"Y-y-y-you. I thought you were in jail?" Clarence asked shockingly.

"Son, a while ago I thought you were dead. But now I see you before me all grown up and handsome. You've inherited my looks and golden voice Clarence." Harry said looking at Clarence.

"Yeah, no thanks to you. You've ruined my life. And my mom's too before she died, and you didn't even care she was dead." Clarence said with anger in his tone.

"Well, we don't always get what we want." Harry insulted.

Harry looked at Gwen.

"So, it was you who found my son, took Cordelia away, exposed me and got me and Joan arrested and had everything taken away from me. All because you had to go snoopin' around in the past." Harry said angrily.

"Mr. Hopewell, I don't know how you broke out and how you found out about me, but you shouldn't have come back." Gwen said angrily as she armed herself.

"On the contrary, I didn't break out Miss Emmons, I was released." Harry revealed.

"What?!" Clarence and Cordelia exclaimed.

"And who released you?" Virgil asked sternly.

"All I know is I was told I was free to go and then a nice gentleman who had me released told me everything about you all." Harry answered.

Gwen's eyes widened, then noticed the burn scar on his hand, knowing exactly who was responsible.

"I'll see you're with her you big freak. I don't want you with my daughter, I forbid it!" Harry sternly said and insulted Virgil.

"Don't you dare call him that father! We're together and I'm never going back with you or mother!" Cordelia angrily yelled.

"Have you come seeking revenge on all of us?" Virgil asked as he prepared to protect the group.

"Not all of you. Her." Harry said and pointed at Gwen.

Gwen stood her ground, preparing for a fight.

"Before I kick your butt, can I ask you something Mr. Hopewell? This 'gentleman' who released you, did you make a… deal with him?" Gwen asked suspiciously.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Harry answered in denial.

"Don't play games with me. I know that burn scar on your hand anywhere. If you made a deal with a certain demon, I'll warn you right now that whatever he promised, he won't give it you." Gwen warned.

"Wait, you don't think it was…?" Cordelia asked.

"I believe he is responsible for your father's release." Virgil agreed.

"Why would the Devil release Clarence and Cordelia's dad?" Mugman asked.

"I dunno. But the Devil's going too far with this." Cuphead said.

"Guys, we gotta do something!" Ms. Chalice reminded them.

"Oh right!" Both cups exclaimed.

All cups bravely go in front of Gwen and raise their arms, shielding her.

"I'll give you one chance to turn yourself over to the police and go back to jail." Gwen warned.

"And what are you gonna do if I don't?" Harry asked as he pulled out a gun and aimed at her head.

The group gasped in horror as Gwen's ink pen started glowing. The cups fearfully hide behind Gwen.

"I'm sorry Harry, but you leave me no choice. I'm sending you back to jail." Gwen said.

"You ruined my life; you took everything away from me Gwen. So now, I'm going to return the favor." Harry angrily said.

But before Gwen could attack as Harry pulled the trigger at her head, a puff of smoke appeared, and the Devil arrived and deflected the bullet away from Gwen.

The group screamed in shock.

"Woah, woah, woah. Let's not be too hasty Mr. Hopewell. This isn't what we agreed on!" The Devil yelled furiously.

"I just told you that just so you could give me a weapon to revenge on my daughter-in-law." Harry said, revealing his true intentions.

The Devil growled at Harry then turned his attention to Gwen.

"I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. This wasn't supposed to happen." The Devil apologized.

"Cut the balderdash Devil. I know it was you who released him!" Gwen snapped.

"Oh, nice. I just saved your life, and this is the thanks I get? Okay, yes, I did release him but now I regret it. Now if you'll excuse me." The Devil said impatiently.

The Devil turned his attention to Harry.

"As for you Mr. Hopewell, have you forgotten the deal?!" The Devil angrily asked.

"What?" Harry asked in disbelief.

"You are not to hurt her! You were supposed to get rid of your own son!" The Devil yelled as he swiped the gun from Harry.

Clarence's eyes widened in horror. Virgil pulled Clarence behind him and prepared for a fight.

"Stay behind me." Virgil instructed.

"No! You told me it was Gwen who destroyed my life and now she's gonna pay!" Harry argued.

"You were supposed to do away with your boy! That was gonna be her payback! To take away something she loves, not kill her!" The Devil angrily said as he raised his flaming pitchfork.

"I don't care! She's dead!" Harry yelled as he tried to take the gun from the Devil.

Cuphead quickly stuck his baseball in his straw, blew on his thumb and shot the baseball at Harry, knocking him to the ground. Mugman quickly collected the baseball back.

"Nice shot, Cuphead!" Ms. Chalice complimented.

"Still got it." Cuphead bragged.

"You went back on the bargain Harry. You know what that means…" The Devil warned.

"No! I can't go back to jail!" Harry exclaimed.

"Oh, you're not going back to jail. You're going somewhere far worse than that old dump. I warned you. Actions have consequences." The Devil said sinisterly.

The Devil tapped his pitchfork, and both disappeared.

"Wow, he's gone." Cuphead said shocked.

"Yeah, he went crazy." Mugman agreed.

"Hey, he wanted to kill Gwen, so it serves him right." Ms. Chalice said.

"What is important is we are all safe." Virgil said.

"Yeah. Let's go home. I can't deal with our father ever again." Cordelia agreed.

"Neither can I." Clarence added.

Gwen tapped her ink pen, and the group disappears back to the Inkwell Isles.

Virgil and Cordelia returned home while the cups enter the cottage as Gwen stayed with Clarence.

"Honey, are you okay?" Gwen asked as she wrapped her arm around him.

"I can't believe he was gonna kill us. The Devil wanted him to kill me." Clarence said sadly.

"Harry wanted to kill me since I was the one who ruined his life." Gwen assured him.

"But how do we know he would've killed me too? He didn't want me and wanted me dead after I was born, and mom died, and he didn't even care." Clarence said with a few tears.

"I know, but you were saved by one man's kindness, and you were delivered to the orphanage in Boston. And I'm sorry your childhood wasn't happy or your later years after you left the orphanage." Gwen apologized.

"It's not your fault. You were the best thing that ever happened to me. You made me feel like I had a purpose in life and made me part of your family." Clarence said looking at her.

Gwen smiled and sunk herself into his chest. Clarence held her for a while.

"What do you think the Devil's gonna do to Harry?" Clarence asked.

Gwen's face dropped, having a good idea what the Devil is going to do.

"Love, you don't wanna know." Gwen said quickly.

"Not even a hint?" Clarence asked.

"Trust me. You don't wanna know." Gwen warned.

"But I need to know why Harry didn't love me. Why he did what he did. Why Cordelia wasn't given up after I was." Clarence said, now having questions.

"Clarence, you've seen it yourself when I showed you and Cordelia the past. What more do you need to know?" Gwen asked.

"I just need answers from the man who got my mom pregnant with me." Clarence said.

Gwen felt bad for Clarence, then thought for a moment and got an idea.

"I think I have an idea. You're not gonna like it." Gwen said.

"Does it involve… going down there again?" Clarence asked.

Gwen nodded.

"What is it?" Clarence asked.

"We'll pay the Devil a visit on a temporary truce. I'll convince him to let you speak with Harry for a while. See if he'll let you talk to him." Gwen explained her idea.

"Are you sure about this?" Clarence asked.

"I'm sure. I have an idea how to convince him. I'll tell him he almost got me killed and I want penance." Gwen answered.

"Okay, when do we go?" Clarence asked.

"First thing in the morning." Gwen answered.

"Alright, I'll meet you then." Clarence said.

Both kissed then went back home then later up to bed.

The next morning, Clarence met Gwen at the cottage.

"Are you ready?" Gwen asked.

Clarence nodded.

Gwen took a deep breath, then she raised her glowing ink pen, created a flaming note and made it disappear.

"What was that for?" Clarence asked.

"You'll see." Gwen said.

A few moments later, the Devil's elevator emerged from the ground. Henchman opened the door.

"Uh, boss got your message. He's accepted your request." Henchman announced.

"Thank you, Henchman." Gwen thanked.

Both humans stepped in the elevator, Henchman closed it, hit the down button and the elevator disappeared into the ground.

They waited for a while.

"Duh, are you sure about this Gwen?" Henchman asked.

"I'm sure. We're not here to fight or rescue Harry. Clarence just wants an audience with him. Besides, your boss owes me for almost getting me killed." Gwen answered.

"Right." Henchman said awkwardly.

Just then, the elevator made the ding sound, arriving in Hell.

"Alright, we're here. Good luck guys." Henchman said.

Gwen took a deep breath. The elevator opens, Gwen bravely stepped out of the elevator with Clarence following and approached the Devil sitting on his throne, expecting them.

"I see you got my message." Gwen bravely said.

"Yes, I did. Now, what do you want from me Gwen?" The Devil asked.

"You almost got me killed yesterday. This time, I want penance from you." Gwen sternly answered.

"Right. What penance do you desire? Is it something to do with Harry?" The Devil asked.

"Yes." Gwen answered.

"I'm afraid I can't release him to you my dear. He violated our bargain and now he must pay the price." The Devil denied.

"That's not what I want." Gwen said.

"What is it then?" The Devil asked.

"I request you grant Clarence an audience with Harry. He wants answers my inkwell cannot give." Gwen answered.

"You want me to grant a visitor meeting to him?" The Devil asked, trying to understand.

"Yes." Gwen answered.

"I don't normally do this. But in your case, I'll make an exception. Alright, I'll grant your request on one condition." The Devil said.

"What is it?" Gwen asked.

"You will remain with me during the meeting between father and son. I don't want you getting any ideas." The Devil answered.

"I can't believe that after all we've been through together; you don't trust me?" Gwen asked mockingly.

The Devil gave her a blank stare.

"Ouch." Gwen said sarcastically.

The Devil got up from his throne and walked down to the couple.

"Follow me." The Devil ordered.

The humans follow the Devil down the tunnel, leading to the dungeon where his slaves worked in the mines.

"Clarence, brace yourself for the horrors you're about to see." Gwen quietly warned.

Clarence gulped fearfully.

The Devil used his pitchfork to open the door. Clarence looked and to his horror, he witnesses slaves working in the mines and some other slaves were chained up. Clarence was about to freak out until Gwen quickly raised her hand on his chest.

"Don't freak out!" Gwen scolded.

Clarence took deep breaths to calm down. The Devil smiled, amused at Clarence's reaction.

"If you're finished mentally preparing, follow me." The Devil ordered.

The humans followed the Devil into the mines where they find a line of slave digging in the rocks and among them was Harry who was now enslaved to eternal servitude.

"Guard!" The Devil yelled.

A large toothy guard looked at the Devil and made himself presentable.

"Bring me Hopewell!" The Devil ordered.

"Yes boss!" The guard answered.

The guard grabbed Harry and led him down to the group. Harry gasped at the sight of Clarence and Gwen.

"Oh Harry, you have visitors." The Devil taunted.

"Are they here to save me?" Harry asked.

"Sorry, but no. Your boy here wants an audience with you." The Devil answered mockingly.

"What? Why?" Harry asked.

"He'll tell you. Now, follow me!" The Devil ordered.

Later Clarence and Harry were sitting at a table in an interrogation room while Gwen and the Devil remained on the sidelines behind a window as he kept an eye on her.

"Isn't this nice dear. You and me watching Clarence confront the father he never had?" The Devil asked calmly.

"You have no idea how hard he had it his whole life. I thought I had it hard, but he had it harder." Gwen answered.

"I know. I looked at his file. His mother died after he was born. She thought having him sent to live with his father will give him a good life, but she was wrong. He wanted nothing to do with him and he didn't want anyone finding about the affair. So, he had his righthand man take the boy away to be killed. But the righthand couldn't bear to do it. Instead, he drove to Boston and dumped him at the orphanage. And well, you know the rest." The Devil explained.

"Oh my." Gwen said, horrified at the story as she held her head in her hand.

"I don't think he'll be able to bear the truth from his own father." The Devil said.

"I know. By the way, thank you for saving me yesterday." Gwen finally thanked the Devil.

The Devil wrapped his arm around her.

"That's more like it. Now, let's watch the fun." The Devil said, approving her answer.

Gwen sighed, knowing he would never change.

Inside the interrogation room, Clarence prepared himself to ask questions.

"Look son, I know we got off on the wrong foot. I'm sorry about your mom Mary's passing and for giving you up as a baby, have you dead and for trying to kill your fiancée. It was wrong of me; I know that now. But if you get me out of here now, I'll make things right for us." Harry said, trying to sound like a redeemed man.

The Devil snickered at Harry's plea, knowing he was lying. Clarence gave a cold stare.

"Before I consider helping you, I need you to tell me what else you heard about mom and me after you gave me up." Clarence said.

"Well, nothing too specific. I heard Mary passed away; she was buried at the Green-Wood Cemetery. Other than that, I thought you were dead. I just didn't want anyone to find about my affair with Mary, otherwise I would've been ruined." Harry nervously answered.

"Well, let me fill you in then. You see, I grew up in the Boston Orphanage. Every year, I hoped someone would come and adopt me and love me. But no one ever did. Over the years I had to learn how to make some cash on the streets. So, I took up playing the ukulele, singing and dancing I learned from watching others. I had some gigs with a band, but they only used me to make extra cash and casted me aside with nothing. So, I had to be a solo act. Then, when I turned 18, they kicked me out of the orphanage and told me it was time to fend for myself. I struggled to find a job, but times were tough with the Great Depression. So, I had no choice but to live on the streets. The only money I could make was playing my ukulele just to get something to eat, then sleep at night at a homeless camp." Clarence summarized his past with a few tears rolling down his face.

Gwen had a few tears from the story.

"Ooh, really tragic childhood." The Devil said mockingly as Gwen gave him a glare.

"So, you see; after living on the streets for 2 years, I was finally given a miracle. One fateful day, I met a woman I had never seen before sitting alone at a restaurant. After our first dance, she was threatened by some creep until I saved her life. I wanted to see her again after she gave me a kiss and left with her sister." Clarence continued his story.

"So, Rosy Cheeks is responsible for you meeting him." The Devil said, figuring it out as Gwen sighed.

"When I found Gwen, she wanted to repay me for what I did for her. So, she let me live in her cabin and helped me land my job at a restaurant club. I worked my way up in show business finally got myself an apartment and landed my first gig with a radio show of my own. It was all because of Gwen who got me where I am now, and I am forever in her debt." Clarence finished the story.

"Son, I-I-I had no idea. I'm so sorry you had to go through all that." Harry said, shocked at hearing the story.

"Gwen also found and helped the sister I never knew I had. She brought us together and now we are family." Clarence added.

"I-I-I am also sorry for Cordelia. For the way Joan and I treated her. Look, I know I wasn't there for you and Cordelia, but I'm here now." Harry said, trying to sound sympathetic.

"You're here now?" Clarence asked.

Harry nodded as Clarence scoffed.

"What makes you think we need you now?" Clarence asked angrily.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Harry asked.

"Where were you when mom died? Huh? Where were you when I stuck at the orphanage for 18 years? Where were you when I was living on the streets? That's when I needed you most and you weren't there!" Clarence yelled furiously.

Harry sat there in shock at his son's yelling.

"I… I don't know what to say, son." Harry said.

"That's because there's nothing to say. Because you know Cordelia and I don't need you anymore." Clarence said after calming down.

"Wait a minute, I hired your mom when she desperately needed a job! I created you! I deserve something for that!" Harry angrily said.

"Deserve?!" Clarence angrily asked.

"Yes! I'm still your father of both of you!" Harry answered.

"A father is someone who's there when it counts! You weren't! So as far as I know, Cordelia and I don't have a father! And Cordelia doesn't have a mother!" Clarence yelled.

Gwen attempted to go in the room to calm Clarence down until the Devil grabbed her shoulder.

"Hold your horses dear. Don't break your part of the deal." The Devil warned as Gwen glared at him.

"So what? You're not gonna help me anymore? I need to get out of here!" Harry yelled.

Clarence shook his head.

"It's like you said yesterday. We don't always get what we want." Clarence said, using Harry's own words against him.

Harry gave a horrified look as the Devil stepped in the room.

"Alright you two, time's up. Guards! Take the prisoner away!" The Devil yelled.

Two guards came in and grabbed Harry as he tried to struggle to break free, but to no avail.

The Devil wrapped his arm around Clarence.

"Let's go." The Devil ordered as he led Clarence away.

"Son! Please forgive me! Have mercy!" Harry begged.

"Wait!" Clarence said.

The Devil sighed impatiently and stopped. Clarence took a deep breath.

"Mom would've wanted me to forgive you. But I don't think I can." Clarence said bravely.

The guards dragged Harry away as he begged for mercy. The Devil takes Clarence away as Gwen joined them in the throne room.

"Well, that was interesting. You know Clarence, I know we're enemies. But I gotta say, I'm impressed with you." The Devil admitted.

"Why do you say that?" Clarence asked, confused.

"Because I thought you would've tried to 'do the right thing' and try to rescue him. But you… you didn't show him any mercy." The Devil answered.

"Well, it's like you said to him yesterday. Actions have consequences. He thought with all that fame, money and power he could get away with anything without consequences. But he needed to be proven wrong." Clarence said.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but, I agree with you on that." The Devil admitted.

"Thanks, Devil." Clarence thanked.

"Alright, if you two are finished, we need to go." Gwen interrupted.

"Oh, come on Gwen. We were just having a guy's moment!" The Devil complained.

Henchman came in with a clipboard.

"Uh, boss. It's time to perform work inspection." Henchman reminded him.

"That was today? Fine! I better go. You know the way out." The Devil said.

"Thanks again, Devil." Clarence thanked.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but, you're welcome. But don't get used to it. This changes nothing." The Devil reminded him as he and Henchman left.

Gwen knew the Devil will stop at nothing to marry her and will kill Clarence if necessary. Gwen teleports themselves out of Hell. They reappear outside the cottage.

"Honey, are you gonna be okay?" Gwen asked.

Clarence sighed.

"I will be. I just need some time. I wish I could talk to my mom and tell her I finally told him off." Clarence said.

Gwen thought for a moment and got an idea.

"Would you like to tell her that in person?" Gwen asked.

"What do you mean?" Clarence asked.

"I mean, there's an actual realm called the Land of the Dead. It's where the deceased go after they die. I only ever been there once. I disguised myself as a ghost, snuck on the Phantom Express train and was taken there. I got to see Grandpa Earnest again and he answered questions about the magic inkwell. Only later, the Devil struck again until Cuphead and Mugman showed up and saved me. Then, the workers of the Phantom Express caught me, and I got in trouble. They took me and the cups back to the Land of the Living and have banned me from coming back." Gwen told the story.

"Wait, do you think mom could be there?" Clarence asked, now fascinated.

"I believe so. But we can't get there with the Phantom Express since they've banned me. We'll have to teleport in and out before they find out." Gwen said, having a plan.

"Okay. How do we find her?" Clarence asked.

"I know exactly who to talk to." Gwen answered.

Gwen grabbed her ink pen, transformed Clarence and herself into their ghost forms.

"Wow, I never thought I'd be a ghost again since the haunted house incident." Clarence said.

"Yeah, well we learned our lesson. Now, are you ready to go to the Land of the Dead?" Gwen asked.

Clarence nodded.

Gwen tapped her ink pen, and both disappeared. They appeared outside Earnest's house in the Land of the Dead. Clarence is awestruck of their new surroundings.

"Wow, so this is the Land of the Dead." Clarence said, looking around.

"Yep. It's not as creepy as Hell is." Gwen said.

Gwen floated up to the door and knocked. Suddenly, the door opened.

"Yes?" Earnest answered.

Earnest gasped, shocked that his granddaughter had come back.

"Gwen?" Earnest asked.

"Grandpa!" Gwen exclaimed and hugged him.

Clarence floated up to Gwen and Earnest reunited.

"I'm so happy to see you Doodlebug, but what are you doing here? You know you're banned from coming here." Earnest reminded her.

"I know Grandpa, I won't be long. But we need your help." Gwen answered.

Earnest looked at Clarence as he gave a wave 'hello'.

"So, this is the man you're marrying?" Earnest asked.

"I'm Clarence Hopewell. Gwen spoke of you a lot. It's an honor to meet you sir." Clarence greeted.

"What a nice young man you are." Earnest said, shaking hands with Clarence.

Earnest looked at Gwen.

"Why did you bring him here? You could get into much bigger trouble for this." Earnest warned her.

"Because I need your help. We want to find his mother's spirit. Mary Brown. She died after Clarence was born long ago. He never knew her, and he wants to meet her face to face. Please grandpa." Gwen answered, begging him.

Earnest sighed, knowing it was going to be risky.

"It won't be easy, and it'll be very risky, but alright. I'll help you find her." Earnest hesitantly agreed.

Gwen hugged Earnest.

"Oh, thank you! Thank you, grandpa!" Gwen thanked happily.

Earnest looked at Clarence.

"My boy, if I take you to see your mother, choose your questions carefully. Because it'll be a matter of time before the Phantom Express find out you two are here and they will come after you and punish you both. Especially Gwen since she's broken the 'no living people allowed' rule twice now." Earnest warned him as Gwen chuckled nervously.

"Okay, sir. Gwen warned me about them." Clarence said.

"Good. Now, follow me and stay close." Earnest instructed.

Earnest leads the couple away from his house. Earnest has the couple wear cloaks and masks so they wouldn't be recognized when they entered the city. Earnest looked in a phonebook in a telephone booth, looking for Mary Brown's whereabouts. He takes the ink pen from Gwen and magically made a paper and wrote down the address.

"I got the address." Earnest said.

"Wonderful! Where do we go?" Gwen asked.

"Follow me." Earnest instructed.

The group flew outside the city to another neighborhood. They reach another broken down house with dead flowers outside.

"Is this where she lives?" Gwen asked.

"It's the right address. You two wait here. I'll go first and prepare her." Earnest said.

Earnest floated up to the door and knocked. Gwen and Clarence held hands.

"I can't believe this is it. I finally get to meet my mother I never knew." Clarence said nervously.

"Calm down. I know it's scary, but I know she loved you when you were born. I saw that when I looked into your past and I believe she still does." Gwen assured him.

Just then, the door answered and a young human ghost with brunette hair floated.

"Oh, hello. May I help you?" The woman asked.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. Are you per chance Mary Brown? The woman who worked for Harry Hopewell?" Earnest asked.

"Yes, sir. I am. Why do you ask?" Mary asked, confirming it was her.

"Ma'am, do me a favor and don't panic. Because, you have a special visitor who wants to meet you." Earnest said.

"Who?" Mary asked, confused.

Earnest gestured Clarence and Gwen to come forward. They float up to Mary, remove their disguises. Mary gasped at the sight of Gwen and Clarence. She floated up to Clarence and looked closely at him. Earnest took Gwen aside as Mary studied Clarence.

Her eyes widened, realizing who he was.

"C-C-C-Clarence?" Mary asked shockingly.

"M-M-M-Mom?" Clarence asked.

"My son!" Mary exclaimed and hugged Clarence.

Both of them started crying. Gwen had tears in her eyes, watching her fiancé finally reunited with his mother. Earnest wrapped his arm around Gwen.

"A very powerful good deed you did Doodlebug." Earnest said.

"Yeah. I know." Gwen agreed.

After a while of hugging, Earnest looked over at some ghosts coming.

"Everyone, get inside now!" Earnest exclaimed.

Everyone floated inside the house as Earnest closed and locked the door.

Mary, still holding Clarence looked at him.

"Son, are you really dead?" Mary asked.

"No mom. This is just a disguise. Gwen, show her." Clarence said.

Gwen grabbed her ink pen and transformed them back into humans, to Mary's shock.

"Oh, my goodness! She's magic! You're both ali-!" Mary exclaimed.

"SHH!" Earnest shushed her, cutting her off.

"Oh. What is the meaning of this? You two aren't supposed to be here." Mary whispered.

"We know. But don't worry, we won't be long." Gwen assured her.

Mary looked at Gwen.

"Son, who is this woman?" Mary asked.

"Mom, I'd like you to meet Gwen Emmons, my fiancée. She made all of this possible. She also saved me and gave me a home and family when I was on the streets after I was kicked out of the orphanage." Clarence answered.

Mary took a closer look at Gwen.

"It was you helped my son?" Mary asked.

Gwen nodded. Mary quickly hugged Gwen tightly.

"Thank you, my dear." Mary thanked, accepting her as her daughter-in-law.

"You're welcome, ma'am." Gwen answered.

After a while, Clarence, Gwen and Mary socialized on the couch as they told her everything that's happened with the past and the present. Earnest kept watch to make sure the Phantom Express weren't on their trail.

"This is so much to take in. I'm so sorry you were at that orphanage, were kicked out and on the streets. I regret falling in love with Harry. I was young and foolish at the time, but I never regretted having you." Mary said.

"Really mom?" Clarence asked.

"Yes. But what I really regret is that I thought Harry would have some decency and take you in to give you a good life. But I was wrong, he only cared about his image and wanted to get rid of you." Mary said with deep regret.

"Mary, you didn't know what would happen. You knew you were dying yet were only thinking about what was best for Clarence. But luckily, Clarence was spared and taken to have a home at the orphanage. Otherwise, I never would've met him." Gwen assured her.

Mary looked at her daughter-in-law and smiled.

"My son is blessed to have you, Gwen. You pulled him out of the darkness and brought justice to Harry." Mary said.

"Yeah, I'm forever in her debt. And mom, I finally told him off for his crimes against you and me. You can rest in peace now." Clarence said.

Mary wrapped her arms around her son and sighed softly. Just then, something caught Earnest's eye. He spots the Train Conductor and Blind Specter coming towards their house.

"Gwen! Clarence! The Phantom Express are coming! You must leave!" Earnest warned them.

Gwen gasped, knowing she was going to be in big trouble if she and Clarence don't leave immediately.

"Clarence! Say goodbye and let's go!" Gwen said as she quickly gave Earnest a hug and kiss goodbye.

Clarence and Mary hug each other one more time and she gave him a kiss.

"Goodbye son. Remember, I'll be with you even if you can't see me." Mary said.

"I will mom, I promise. I love you." Clarence said as he was tearing up.

"I love you too Clarence." Mary said as she was tearing up.

"They're approaching the door! Go!" Earnest exclaimed.

Clarence rejoined Gwen as she quickly tapped her ink pen, and both humans disappeared back to the Land of the Living. Earnest and Mary hear someone knocking at the door.

"Phantom Express! Open up!" Train Conductor called.

Earnest approached Mary.

"Mary, listen to me. You're gonna answer the door, and you're gonna act like nothing is wrong. And you will deny any knowledge of any living person in the Land of the Dead. We are just visiting each other. Alright?" Earnest asked.

Mary nodded. She floated up to the door, took a deep breath and opened the door.

"Hello. May I help you?" Mary asked.

"We got reports of suspected living people in the Land of the Dead. You haven't seen anything have you?" Train Conductor asked.

"Living people? What living people? I thought living people are forbidden here." Mary answered, pretending nothing was wrong.

"Of course they're forbidden here. Do you mind if we have a look around ma'am?" Blind Specter asked.

"By all means." Mary answered politely.

Train Conductor and Blind Specter enter the house and begin their search. They noticed Earnest sitting on the couch sipping some tea.

"Earnest, I didn't expect to see you here. Although it explains why you weren't at your house." Train Conductor said.

"Hello sir. I was just visiting my friend Mary. We're family now." Earnest said calmly.

"You are? How?" Train Conductor asked.

"I saw that my granddaughter and Mary's son are getting married soon. So, I decided to get acquainted with her and we have become friends." Earnest explained, acting like nothing was wrong.

"It's true. I'm so happy for my son and my soon to be daughter-in-law." Mary said.

Blind Specter flew up to the Train Conductor.

"No living person here sir. I searched this house inside and out." Blind Specter reported.

"Alright then, we'll keep searching." Train Conductor said.

He turned to the human ghosts.

"Well, thank you for letting us search the house. If you happen to see any living person even if it is your own granddaughter, you will inform us right away. Understand?" Train Conductor asked.

"Yes, sir." Earnest answered.

"Yes, sir." Mary answered.

"Very good. Good day to you both." Train Conductor said and tipped his hat.

Train Conductor and Blind Specter leave the house to continue their search. Both ghosts sighed of relief.

"That was a close one!" Mary said, feeling relieved.

"Yes, I told Gwen this was very risky." Earnest agreed.

"Earnest, did you mean what you said? We are family now?" Mary asked.

"Of course I meant it. My granddaughter and your son brought us together." Earnest answered.

"Thank you." Mary said as she hugged Earnest.

Back in the Land of the Living, Gwen and Clarence appeared back at the cottage.

"Phew! That was a close one! I thought I was busted again!" Gwen said, feeling relieved.

"Gwen, I can't thank you enough for all you've done. You gave me a home, made me part of your family, helped me become a star, found my half-sister, brought justice to my father and reunited me with my mother." Clarence said.

"Yeah, it's the least I can do since, you are the reason I will be free from the Devil." Gwen answered.

"Well, I better get home. I'll talk to you later. Love you." Clarence said as he prepared to head home.

"Wait, before you go, I made you something." Gwen said.

Gwen magically held up a portrait of Clarence, Cordelia and Mary.

"Gwen, you made this just for me?" Clarence asked, fascinated.

"Of course, so you'll always know who your real family is." Gwen answered.

Both of them kissed, then Clarence headed back to his apartment with the portrait. Clarence found a nice space on the wall and hung it up with a nail pounded in. Clarence looked satisfied at the family portrait.

Clarence was forever grateful to Gwen for bringing justice to his father and allowed him to meet his mother in the Land of the Dead and will always cherish the memory of Mary Brown forever.
