Hello, brand new story and Brother Bear is Disney's not mine.
Chapter 1. When Storm's a Brewing
It was a beautiful night overlooking Fairbanks, Alaska on the last week of May. Stars blanketed the dark blue sky, the moon was going to be a New Moon in a few nights and the air was crisp. Everyone was asleep in their beds save for one. A elderly woman dressed in thick clothes walked away from the city into the forest nearby. A recurring dream had been bothering her for the last three nights and it ended the same way: A shadowy figure rises from the ground and engulfs the surrounding area. Most people would shake off dreams like they are a worry over nothing but Tanana Nukilik wasn't like anyone else. She was a shaman with a strong connection with the spirit world and the dream world.
Dreams were never something to ignore from her experience.
Something's wrong and Tanana can feel it in her heart and soul. She needs to check on it before it's too late. Centuries ago, an ancestor of Tanana's imprisoned an evil force in a tree somewhere outside of what is now the city of Fairbanks. Tanana's family was given the duty of protecting the tree from the Great Spirits themselves. If the tree was destroyed by natural causes or cut down the evil will be released into the modern world. Tanana wished she had help but majority of her family don't have much shamanic power or believe in the old ways. She doesn't want to the old traditions die.
They must live on.
Tanana walked through the forest until she reached a ravine. Down below was the cursed tree. It has been there since ancient times and untouched by the wildlife and looked like it was made of stone and wood. Tanana was told the tree was resting near a large rock and the two combined when the evil force was sealed inside. Carefully, Tanana climbed down into the ravine and approached the tree with caution. She could feel the power radiating from it and was making her feel a little nervous. Making sure to stay a safe distance, Tanana kneeled down and placed an bowl and feathers down in front of her. Pulling a small bundle of incense from her pocket, she lit it and placed it in the bowl while fanning herself with the smoke. Cleansing any impurities before she started meditating. For a few minutes, nothing happened. Then silence filled the air before it turned from cold to slightly warm like bath water. Tanana felt herself feel lighter as she entered the Spirit World. Once there, she stood up to see the tree in front of her was surrounded by a golden barrier but something wasn't right. The barrier was supposed to be a bright colour but it was fading and slowly turning black like the shadow trapped within. The seal was starting to weaken and she doesn't have enough power to enforce it. Tanana felt herself return to the land of the living when she heard a crack. She opened her eyes to see a small dent form in the trees roots.
"It's starting." Tanana said as she snuffed out the incense and gathered her supplies.
"I need their help."
In the sky above, the Great Spirits heard the shaman's plea and sent a message to the ones she need to get a hold of immediately before it was too late.
Meanwhile, in a house located in Portland, Oregon, three brothers were sleeping in their beds as a golden light flew through the open window and hovered up the stairs. It stopped in the middle of the hall before splitting and flew into three bedrooms. Engulfing the three young residents in a soft golden glow.
Dream World
A young man woke up and sat up confused. His wavy black hair was a mess and he was dressed in a blue winter snowsuit his grandmother gave him for his birthday when he was eighteen. He hadn't wore it at all because it looked out of style compare to the modern sports jackets made for skiing or snowboarding but it fit him like a glove. Around his neck was a stone amulet shaped like a wolf. A trinket he found in the pocket of the snowsuit and never wore either.
What's going on? he wondered as he looked around to see he was standing in the middle of rocky terrain. Where am I?
"Dennis!"
Dennis turned to see his older and younger brothers running towards him. He saw they too were dressed in snowsuits and wearing animal amulets given to then on their eighteenth birthday from their grandmother. The eldest was wearing red with a eagle amulet while the youngest was wearing tan with a bear amulet. This is one weird dream.
"Sid!, Kenny!" Dennis called back as he ran towards them.
"Are you alright?" Sid asked.
"I'm guys?"
"We're fine." Kenny answered. He fingered the bear amulet around his neck in disgust.
"I thought I hid this in my underwear drawer."
"I thought you threw it away." Dennis said. "Seeing as you're not a fan of bears."
"I'd never hear the end of it if I did that."
"Enough." Sid said silencing his younger brothers. "Something tells me we're not in Oregon anymore."
"Where are we, Land of Oz?" Dennis asked.
The brothers laughed but it was shorted lived when they saw the northern lights appear in the sky.
"Northern lights in the daytime?" Kenny said. "That's not right."
"Maybe we're imagining it." Sid said.
Dennis swallowed. This felt real to him. He remembered what his grandmother said before they moved to Oregon ten years ago.
"You and your family have a special gift. In time you'll know what to do."
"Guys, I think we should takeā¦"
Before Dennis could finish his sentence, the golden lights shot down and engulfed the brothers. Their bodies glowed as the amulets absorbed the ethereal energy surrounding them.
"Remember who you are." A voice said.
Real World
Dennis woke up with sweat all over his face. He panted and tried to wipe the sweat off when he felt something hard around his neck.
It was the wolf amulet his wore in his dream.
Panicking Dennis got up and rushed out of the room to bathroom when he ran into his brothers. Both drenched in sweat with their respective amulets around their necks.
"You too?" They said in unison.
Then Sid's smartphone beeped. He went back into his room and looked at the screen. It was a text message and Sid's eyes widen when he finished reading.
"Dennis, Kenny. Something's not right." Sid said as he showed his brothers the message.
Sitka, Denahi, Kenai. I need to talk to you right away. Tanana.
