She met Danny at a local bar in New Orleans. He tried to get into some girl's pants by amaze her with his card tricks. It made her laugh, the way that girl was falling for him. It was a cheap trick after all. Henley thought the girl knew his type, so it doesn't make any sense for her, to fall for him. He was a charming, egomaniac, arrogant, player, but as Henley got to know him, she realized, he is so much more than that.

The girl's boyfriend showed up and they ended up in a fight, leaving the bar, leaving him alone. So she didn't underestimate her, the girl played him too. Although Henley felt sorry for her boyfriend. He seems to be in love.

She couldn't help but smirk after they left, it was funny to see Danny "fall on his face"; and that was the moment he looked at her.

- Hey. Are you enjoying the show? – he was offended, that someone saw him get burned. His ego had a hard time to take "public humiliation", if you can call it that. He probably did.

- Very much. - he doesn't have the slightest idea, how much.

-Well what about a different show, without me getting dumped? – saving face, with acting like he doesn't care.

- You don't even have a chance to ask her out, I don't think that counts as getting dumped. – it was funny to see him struggle, but she wasn't cruel. There is a line, she did not want to cross.

- Well, yeah. So do you want to see a trick? - without waiting for her answer he sat next to her, and started to play with the cards, giving a new meaning to the word erotic. - Pick a card. Any card. Memories it. This was it? - he showed her the ace of spades. She smiled. Moved her hand behind his ears and pulled out the nine of spades. Putting down in front of him.

- If you want to get burned yourself you better have nine lives like cats, or at least no fear from the fire.

He looked almost appreciative. She challenged him, he liked it. She wasn't afraid to tease him, he thought she would even tell him off, which sounds like the best adrenaline. He wanted her in his life, without recognising what he actually started.

There was something in the banter, in the teasing that drew him to her. She was fun, there was a light around her, which made her into this energetic entity, someone full of life. He liked that. He liked that she was sassy but it drove him crazy. There was this push and pull, which can be a maddening fun with her.

Danny never knew what a healthy relationship is, but he liked the excitement. And now he felt it.

- Do you want to work with me?

- I don't know your name, let alone anything else about you.

- J. Daniel Atlas. I'm a magician looking for an assistant, and I believe I just found the perfect woman for the role.

- Why is that?

- Because I am not afraid to get burned. Are you?

She smirked again. He was a challenge, and the first time in many years, she was ready for one. There was something about him, she liked. Mystery, shadows, banter, push and pull. It was a game. And she loved nothing more than the game. She wanted to play.

- No. I am not. – she wasn't. She liked the fire. The more she got to know him, the more she saw from the burning fire.

- So, what's your name?

- Henley Reeves. And I believe we just turned our world upside down. - Then it was his turn to smirk.

- I believe it too.

They ended up talking through the night, teasing, drinking, and without any of them realising it, falling in love. Not in the traditional sense of the world. It was a love and hate game after all. The question was: when will they be bored out of playing it?
