Ch 7 Time for Healing

A few weeks past and Nala was nearing the end of her pregnancy. Tama and Tojo had been giving them updates on Nuka and how he was doing. The little brown cub was doing really well without the brutal conditions of living with Zira. But as good as things were going for him things were also going better for Scar. The older lion was recovering from his injuries and was spending more and more time awake. This was not a good thing for Simba and his Pride for Scar loved to spend his time tormenting and threatening the other lions. On this particular day Simba had had enough and he stormed up to the cave and ordered the lionesses that were guarding the cave to move the rock. Once inside Simba approached his Uncle, who lifted his head up. "Scar," Simba growled, glaring at the old lion. "We need to talk."

"Ah to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit today your highness?" Scar asked, the sarcasm dripping.

"Enough Scar," Simba growled, still glaring at his Uncle. "I've had just about enough of you and your antics."

"Why whatever do you mean?" Scar asked, trying to act innocent. But Simba wasn't about to fall for his evil Uncle's act.

"You know damn good and well what I'm talking about," Simba hissed. "I'm talking about you constantly threatening the lionesses and spewing abuse at them. I will not allow you to mistreat them any longer."

"Oooh I quiver with fear!" Scar said mockingly.

"You should show a little decency here Scar," Simba hissed. "I could have left you to die but I didn't."

"Oh and I suppose you expect me to be grateful is that it?" Scar spat out, glaring at his nephew. "I'd rather you let me die then be confined here to this Hell hole! So don't expect any gratitude from me you insolent little shit!"

"I don't expect anything from you Scar," Simba said, shaking his head. "And right now I'm really regretting allowing you to live."

"Then why not rectify that hmm?" Scar asked, his voice low. "I'm still in a weakened condition. You could easily finish me off."

"As I told you before Scar," Simba said, trying his best to keep his voice monotoned. "I'm not a cold hearted murderer like you."

"Ah yes I'm well aware of that," Scar said, an evil smile going across his muzzle as an equally evil idea came to him. "You and I are nothing alike. I had the courage to do what I had to do. I saw a problem and I took care of it. You are just like Mufasa: weak and pathetic. He never had the backbone to do what was necessary."

"Never talk about my father!" Simba roared, raising his paw and striking Scar hard in his head, knocking the older lion out cold. Simba let out another growl and raised his paw to slash Scar's throat. But before he could he heard someone call his name. Turning his head Simba saw Sarafina standing there. "What is it?" Simba asked, trying his best not to growl at his mother-in-law.

"Forgive me Simba," Sarafina said softly. "But Nala just went into labor. I though you'd want to know."

"Thank you Sarafina," Simba said, his voice back to normal. "I'll be there shortly." Sarafina nodded and headed out of the cave. Once she was gone Simba looked down at his unconscious Uncle with a scowl. "I won't become you," Simba spat out. "No matter how much you tempt me I won't kill you. Luckily Sarafina came along and stopped me before I did what you wanted me to do." With that Simba let out another growl. "I won't let you ruin one of the happiest days of my life," Simba hissed. "You've already taken so much away from me. I won't let you take this from me." With that Simba turned and left the cave to check on Nala.

Meanwhile Zira had received word that Nala was about to give birth. "This is perfect," the crazed lioness said. "I can enact my revenge on Simba sooner than planned."

"My lady forgive me but what exactly are you planning on doing?" Cala asked.

"Simba took my child from me," Zira said. "So I'm going to return the favor by taking his child away from him."

"Zira forgive me for saying this," Shida said with caution. "But you still have Kovu and Vitani."

"Yes," Cala chimed in. "And I thought you had no use for Nuka. Why do you care that he's gone."

"Simba had no right to take Nuka from me!" Zira thundered, causing her friends to shake with fear. Her sudden outburst caused Kovu and Vitani to wake from their nap and they began to fuss. Zira stomped over and pulled Kovu close while shoving Vitani to the side. Shida pulled Vitani close and comforted the four week old cub as best she could. "Simba will pay dearly for interfering," Zira was muttering. "Oh yes he, Nala, Sarafina and Sarabi will rue the day they crossed me!" With that Zira wrapped her paw around Kovu silently cursing Simba and his family, including his unborn child.

Later that day Simba was pacing back and forth, waiting on news about Nala and his cub. Timon and Pumbaa were waiting outside with the golden King, trying their best to take his mind off of things. "Simba buddy you're gonna wear a hole in the ground at this rate," Timon was saying.

"Well excuse me Timon if I'm a little on edge," Simba said with a grunt as he continued to pace. "But my mate is in there giving birth to our child. Plus all this stuff that's going on with Scar..." Simba trailed off, not waiting to get worked up again.

"Don't you worry about Scar," Pumbaa piped up. "He isn't worth you getting upset about. He's nothing but a coward." Talking like this was rare for Pumbaa, who was usually a creature that liked to see the bright side of everything and always saw the best in all creatures.

"Yeah, Timon chimed in. "He's not worth anything if you ask me. Plus I'm sure he learned his lesson after the last time you guys talked."

"Thanks guys," Simba said with a smile. "But I still can't help but worry about Nala and the cub. Anything could happen.

"Hey don't worry buddy," Timon said, jumping off Pumbaa's head and going over to Simba. "Nala is one strong lioness. She'll be fine and so will your kiddo."

"I hope you're right Timon," Simba said. "I just..." Just then Nala's painfilled cry echoed through the air.

"I'm sure that's normal," Timon said after seeing the worried look on Simba's face. Just then another cry echoed through the air followed by silence. Moments later Sarabi emerged from the cave, a smile on her face.

"Mom!" Simba cried out, running over to his mother. "What's happening?! Is Nala alright? Is the cub here? What..."

"Honey slow down," Sarabi said with a laugh. "Yes the cub is here. You have a healthy son."

"Its a boy?' Simba said softly. Then in a much louder voice he cried out, "I have a son!" With that Simba embraced his mother, who gladly returned her son's affection. "But what about Nala?" Simba said after a minute. "Is she alright?" Sarabi opened her mouth to speak but just then Sarafina came running out of the cave.

"Sarabi!" the creamy lioness cried out. "We need your help!"

"What's going on?" Sarabi demanded.

"There's another cub coming!" Sarafina cried out. "But its stuck! Rafiki needs our help!" With that Sarafina dashed back inside the cave with Sarabi right behind her, leaving a worried and terrified Simba behind.
