The Journey Begins
Lincoln, Shauna, Serena, Tierno, and Trevor exit Aquacorde Town and start making their way towards Route 2. As they do, Shauna decides to start up a conversation with Lincoln.
"So, Lincoln; where did you and your family come from before moving here?" Shauna asked Lincoln.
"Actually, I'm the only member of my family that made it here." said Lincoln as he looks away with sadness.
"It's just you here?" asked Trevor.
"Why didn't your family come with you?" asked Tierno. Lincoln lets out a sigh before he tells everyone about how he ended up in Kalos; the lousy boat his family got from Flip, everything that went wrong with it, being sucked into the whirlpool, getting seperated from his family, and washing up on a beach near Ambrette Town where Professor Sycamore found him. It was needless to say that everyone was left speechless after the story was finished.
"Oh, sweet Arceus." Shauna said with her hand over her mouth and tears in her eyes.
"Do you think the rest of your family is okay?" asked Trevor.
"I don't know." said Lincoln. "I hope so; I'm the only one Professor Sycamore found."
"I hope somehow that Flip person gets what's coming to him." said Serena.
"That makes two of us." said Tierno.
"Make it three." said Trevor.
"Four!" said Shauna.
"And if somehow my family survived the boat incident, make it seventeen at least." said Lincoln.
"How big is your family?" asked Tierno.
"Well, I have my mom, dad, and ten sisters." said Lincoln, surprising everyone.
"TEN SISTERS?!" Serena replied.
"How does one mother have so many kids?" asked Trevor.
"Lots of people back where I'm from have asked that question a lot." said Lincoln.
"Where have you been staying since you got here?" asked Tierno.
"Professor Sycamore was nice enough to let me stay in one of the lab's staff bedrooms." said Lincoln.
"I'm glad you haven't had to live on the streets the whole time." said Serena.
"So am I." said Lincoln.
"How often do you think of your family?" asked Shauna.
"Every single day since I got here." said Lincoln. "I really hope they're all safe and sound at least."
"So what are you going to do on your Pokemon journey?" asked Tierno.
"I'm interested in competing in the Kalos League." said Lincoln. "Earning the badges needed to enter it will keep my mind off what happened for a little while at least."
"I hope you at least find out what happened to your family some day." said Trevor.
"Thanks." said Lincoln.
"Which gym are you going to challenge first?" asked Shauna.
"The one in Santalune City is the closest one." said Lincoln. "So I guess that would be my first stop."
"Hey, I think we're on Route 2." said Shauna. Everyone looks around and sees a road marker with the number 2 on it.
"I didn't realize we already made it this far." said Trevor.
"I guess we were so occupied with listening to Lincoln's story to notice." said Serena.
"Are you going to get started on training your Fennekin, Lincoln?" asked Tierno.
"Sure." said Lincoln. He takes Fennekin's pokeball off his waist and tosses it, releasing his Fennekin.
"What's that other pokeball with you?" asked Shauna. Lincoln takes the pokeball that Shauna pointed out off his waist and tosses it, releasing his Bagon, surprising everyone.
"Where did you get a Bagon?" asked Tierno.
"After I recovered enough from what happened to me, Professor Sycamore and I started heading to Lumiose City." Lincoln started to say. "After we left Ambrette City, I found an empty pokeball; Professor Sycamore had me toss it to find out if there was a Pokemon inside of it, which I did at the time Bagon came out of some nearby grass; the pokeball hits and catches him."
"Whoa." said Tierno. The sound of flapping wings from above them gets everyone's attention, making them look up to see several small gray birds with reddish orange heads flying over them.
"What are those?" asked Shauna. Lincoln points his pokedex at the Pokemon to get an answer to her question.
"Fletchling, the Tiny Robin Pokemon. These friendly Pokémon send signals to one another with beautiful chirps and tail-feather movements." said Lincoln's pokedex. As everyone looks at the bird Pokemon, Trevor notices Lincoln's Bagon running after and jumping up towards them while flapping his arms.
"What's with your Bagon, Lincoln?" asked Trevor.
"I think he's trying to fly up to them." said Lincoln.
"But Bagons can't fly." said Tierno, making Bagon depressed.
"Not yet." said Lincoln. "But I learned that the final evolved form of Bagon can; but that doesn't stop him from trying anyway."
"I see." said Trevor.
"And I want to help Bagon achieve his dream of being able to soar above the clouds, so I'm gonna train him until he finally can." said Lincoln.
"That's so nice of you, Lincoln." said Shauna. Some rustling from some nearby grass gets everyone's attention, making them look to see a small gray, rabbitlike Pokemon with brown-tipped ears and toes, along with a stiff brown collar around its neck. Lincoln takes out his pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Bunnelby, the Digging Pokemon. They use their large ears to dig burrows. They will dig the whole night through." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"It looks so cute." said Shauna with adoration. "Do you think I can catch this one?"
"Go ahead." said Lincoln. Shauna reaches behind her and pulls out a pokeball.
"Chespin, go!" said Shauna, throwing Chespin's pokeball and releasing it. Bunnelby notices it and goes in a stance. "Okay, Chespin, use Tackle!" Chespin runs at Bunnelby and rams it, knocking it back. Bunnelby glares at Chespin and its eyes glowed blue; Chespin slumps.
"What did Bunnelby do?" asked Tierno.
"Not sure." replied Shauna. "Okay, Chespin, use Vine Whip!" A green vine comes out of each side of Chespin's head and they hit Bunnelby, knocking it to the ground.
"I think it's weak enough, Shauna." said Serena. Shauna nods before pulling out a pokeball and throwing it at Bunnelby, hitting it, and sucking it in; it wiggled a few times until it clicked.
"Yes! Bunnelby is mine." said Shauna; she walks to Bunnelby's pokeball and picks it up.
"Great work, Shauna." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Shauna. She uses her pokedex to look up Bunnelby's information. "This says Bunnelby's a boy, he knows Tackle, Agility, and Leer; he has the Cheek Pouch ability which restores his health whenever he eats a berry."
Lincoln suddenly hears rustling from the tall grass; he looked to see a brown and cream color striped, racoon-like Pokemon jump out. Lincoln points his pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Zigzagoon, the Tiny Racoon Pokemon. It walks in zigzag fashion. It's good at finding items in the grass and even in the ground." said Lincoln's pokedex.
"Now's a good time to try out my new Fennekin." said Lincoln as he pulls out Fennekin's pokeball. "Go, Fennekin!" He tosses Fennekin's pokeball and releases her. "Okay, Fennekin, use Scratch!" Fennekin runs at Zigzagoon and scratches it, knocking it back. Zigzagoon responds by running at Fennekin and ramming her, knocking her back.
"You can do it, Lincoln!" said Shauna. Lincoln looks at Shauna and nods before looking back at the battle. "Fennekin, Ember!" Fennekin releases bits of fire from her mouth and they hit Zigzagoon, hitting it; fire covers its body.
"I wonder if this is that burn status condition." said Lincoln. Zigzagoon lets out a loud yell and releases soundwaves onto Fennekin, making her slump; Zigzagoon flinches in pain and collapses. "Now's my chance." He pulls out an empty pokeball and throws it at Zigzagoon, catching it, and sucking it in; it wiggled around a few times until it clicked. "Yeah! I caught a Zigzagoon!"
"Congratulations, Lincoln." said Shauna. Lincoln looks up his new Zigzagoon's information in his pokedex.
"This says Zigzagoon's a boy, he knows Growl and Tackle, and he has the Pickup ability which has the chance of him finding items after battle." said Lincoln. He looks down when he feels something nuzzling his leg; to see it was Fennekin.
"So what do you want to do now?" asked Tierno.
"Maybe I should get my Zigzagoon's burn treated before I start training him." said Lincoln.
"There's a place back in Aquacorde Town that heals Pokemon." said Trevor.
"I'll head back real quickly to get my Pokemon treated." said Lincoln as he runs off back to town.
Half an hour later, Lincoln comes back, and ready to get started on training his Pokemon.
"Sorry to keep you all waiting." said Lincoln.
"No problem." said Tierno.
"A Pokemon's health should be its trainer's main concern regarding it." said Serena.
Lincoln spends a good amount of time training his Pokemon, mainly his Fennekin and Zigzagoon to help them get caught up with Bagon; his Fennekin gets a bit stronger, while his Zigzagoon learns Tail Whip and Headbutt. Also during Zigzagoon's training, he finds several items thanks to his Pickup ability, such as a couple of Potions, a Great Ball, a Full Heal, and a small ball of gold.
"What's this thing?" asked Lincoln as he looks the ball over.
"That's a Nugget." said Trevor. "That can be sold for ten-thousand pokedollars."
"Whoa!" said Shauna.
"That does sound like a lot of money!" said Lincoln.
"Zigzagoon's Pickup ability would be handy for you to have on the road." said Serena.
"Let's keep going." said Lincoln.
"Excuse me." a young boy calls out from nearby; the group looks to see a young boy walking over to them. "Would any of you like to have a Pokemon battle with me?"
"Sure." replied Lincoln. Soon, Lincoln and the boy stood several yards from each other while the others watched; Lincoln and the boy each pull out a pokeball. "How many Pokemon are we using?"
"One." replied the boy.
"Fennekin, go!" said Lincoln, throwing Fennekin's pokeball and releasing her.
"Come out, Zigzagoon!" said the boy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Zigzagoon.
"Fennekin, Ember!" said Lincoln. Fennekin releases bits of fire from her mouth and they hit Zigzagoon, damaging it.
"Zigzagoon, Tail Whip!" said the boy. Zigzagoon runs at Fennekin and wags its tail against her, weakening her defense.
"Fennekin, Scratch!" said Lincoln. Fennekin runs at Zigzagoon and scratches it, damaging it.
"Zigzagoon, Tackle!" said the boy. Zigzagoon runs at Fennekin and rams her, knocking her back.
"Fennekin, Ember!" said Lincoln. Fennekin releases more bits of fire from her mouth and they hit Zigzagoon, knocking it out. "Great job, Fennekin." Fennekin smiles at Lincoln in response.
"That was awesome." said Tierno.
"Way to go, Lincoln!" cheered Shauna. The boy returned his Zigzagoon to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Zigzagoon." said the boy. He puts Zigzagoon's pokeball away and walks over to Lincoln. "Good battle."
"Thanks." replied Lincoln. The boy gives Lincoln pokedollars and walks away. The others walked over to Lincoln.
"That was great, Lincoln!" said Shauna.
"Let's get going." said Tierno.
The group continues their way down Route 2. What else will Lincoln experience with his new friends as his Kalos adventure is just getting started? Wait and find out.
