No-One But You (The Star Child's Eclipse)
Chapter 29: The Futurist (Part 9)
…
Several hours before the emergency "Surveillant Council" meeting took place, a mutant by the name of Charles Xavier gave Ezekiel Stane the answer he was hoping to receive.
…
Of course he'd facilitate a conversation between the somber "Jackal" and Victor Von Doom, and… of course he'd make that happen without Wade Wilson knowing about it.
Xavier had to prepare himself for a number of things to happen that day, and it was in the mercenary's best interest to not be involved.
The infamous Deadpool had too soft of a heart, and the psychic knew good and well that they wouldn't see eye to eye… and he definitely wouldn't understand Ezekiel's need to speak with Doom on his own.
It was a very important conversation, because Victor Von Doom, Wade Wilson, and Ezekiel Stane clearly never left what happened at Battleworld… in a sense.
Charles could clearly see that the three of them were still mentally out there in the fighting pit, and they all had been smoldering over it for months.
…
Thankfully, Ezekiel's relationship with the aloof mercenary was strengthening… and some might say it was the only thing holding him together.
So, on that cheery note, Charles Xavier got himself ready for the upcoming encounter that morning… then he began his rounds of checking in with everyone at the X-mansion.
Wade Wilson was on his mind as he checked in with his fellow mutants, because their weekly chats had been put on hold for quite some time.
He still checked in on the mercenary when he could, because tapping into the vein of Wade's mind accomplished a number of things.
Most importantly, it gave him some insight into Ezekiel's mental well being, because he'd been cut off from the somber Jackal since the incident at Battleworld took place.
Through the thoughts constantly buzzing around in Wade's interesting mind, Xavier managed to piece together that Victor Von Doom had clearly broken Ezekiel's spirit.
Harming Wade truly "broke" the somber Jackal psychologically, and it was important for the mutant to understand that and reconnect.
…
Facilitating that conversation was the best step forward, and the mutant did his best not to dwell on it.
The mutant eventually made his way to the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, and he behaved in the same manner after he entered the building.
Xavier "checked in" with everyone that he knew, and that included having a lengthy conversation with Nick Fury.
They didn't start things off by talking about Tony Stark's random outcry for a meeting, but the subject slipped into the conversation eventually.
Stark's update on the meeting was very vague too, and Fury mentioned that he didn't know what to expect.
...
Xavier wasn't sure what to expect either, and the mutant held a surprised look on his face when his mind picked up on a thought or two from someone who recently entered the building...
Wade Wilson was there, somewhere, in the flesh... so the mutant gave a smile as he glanced down at the time.
The mercenary was there early too, and that was very unexpected for him.
...
Deadpool's thoughts about seeing some "CHROME-DOME COCK-SOCK" were loud and outlandish, and Xavier almost laughed as he picked up on all of it...
