Prompt: Jenga
"It's one thing to levitate something, Granger." Riddle's voice could not have sounded more dismissive. Hermione curled her fingers into fists and fought not to let her anger show on her face. "It's an entirely other thing to play Jenna with Windgardium Leviosa. You can play with us when you get your magic to that level of precision."
Hermione was forced to walk away from the first year boys in the Slytherin common room. She knew that Slytherin would be a challenge, but she didn't realize that casual put downs for a simple question were so common.
She knew better than to be seen working on the spell publicly. It wouldn't do to let Riddle know that he'd gotten to her. It took her weeks before she'd mastered the spell. It wasn't just floating feathers, it was moving an object precisely to where she wanted it.
However, she couldn't stop there. They wouldn't let her play once so who's to say they'd let her play next time. No better to make it look casual. She would show them and in such a way that her control was unquestionable.
In early November, Hermione returned from walking outside and was busy unwrapping her scarf before she realized that it was the perfect time.
As she fluffed her hair out and took off her coat, she caught Riddle's eye. He had glanced away from that ridiculous Jenga set and that was all it took, the block clipped the side of the block below it. Just as it was about to collapse, Hermione waved her wand. With a perfectly pronounced "Windgardium Leviosa" the blocks started to lift from their mid-fall position. But it wasn't enough to stop the fall, Hermione reversed it so that the block Riddle had gone to move was perfectly placed back in the rebuilt tower as if he'd never cast at it.
"Really, Riddle? One would think you'd be proficient enough at the spell for a simple game of Jenga." With that parting shot, she began walking up to her dormitory to deposit her outerwear.
