I opened my eyes and saw that I was back at the orphanage. My body was eleven again, but something felt even more off than it did the last time this happened. A voice in the back of my head said, "Do it right this time. Don't do something stupid like get kissed by Malfoy and no matter what, make Tom Riddle fall for you. Just don't accidentally kill him or you'll go through another time loop." Of course, a time loop. Why didn't I think of that?
When Dumbledore arrived to see Tom, he came to see me as well, but in the office.
"You must be Rebecca O'Brien," Dumbledore said, "I will take you and Mr. Riddle to go get your things for school today. You're going to Hogwarts school for witchcraft and wizardry." I frowned this wasn't how it wentvthe first time.
"I'm a witch?" I asked. Dumbledore nodded.
"Yes, you are, Miss O'Brien," He said, "Can you go get ready?" I nodded and left the room to go get dressed in one of the nicer dresses I had. I met Tom and Dumbledore in the front of the orphanage, to which Tom looked rather surprised to see that they were waiting for me.
"You have magic too?" Tom whispered angrily like he was upset to have to share his outing with someone. I wasn't sure how to respond.
"I guess," I said as I finally decided on saying that. We didn't say anything else to each other the entire trip, not even when we found my fortune in Gringots. I could tell that Tom was starting to think that I was mysterious.
When we got back to the orphanage, one of the girls, who I didn't like the first time around and because of that I couldn't remember her name, came up to me.
"Why did only you and that dreadful boy go on an outing?" she asked, "It's not like you were getting adopted or anything."
"We went because we're the same," I said, "That's all you need to know." I was a little upset, but I should've not taken it out on her when she didn't do anything wrong yet. She frowned.
"The same?" She asked, her small mind trying to wrap around those words.
"I'm sure you'll soon know what I mean," I said. The girl's eyes widened.
"You mean you're also a freak?" the girl asked as she finally figured out what I meant.
"If you want to call it that," I said, "I really don't care at this point." The girl frowned and walked away.
~*The Blood on My Hands*~
The day to take the train to Hogwarts arrived and I felt like crying as I didn't want to see anyone I knew, because they no longer knew me. I tried to keep calm, but by the time the sorting hat was put on me, I was a crying mess.
"What's wrong child?" the sorting hat said, "You want to be in another house than Slytherin? Well, that's too bad, because that's where you belong." Then he shouted "Slytherin!" Nobody clapped, just like nobody clapped for Tom Riddle. I was forced to sit next to him at the table as nobody wanted to be next to mudbloods. I was rich by compensation, so it wasn't really because I was from a wealthy family. Tom looked at me with a dash of concern in his eye.
"Why are you like me?" Tom asked, "You should at least have an advantage being wealthy and all." I glared at him.
"That money doesn't mean anything," I said, "Money does not equal status. I'm just like you, but your advantage is greater than mine. If I had even a dash of what you have, I'd be in a much better place." Tom frowned slightly.
"And what advantage might that be?" Abraxas Malfoy asked, "Because Money is a good advantage."
"That's for him to find out," I said, "Besides, I'm not fond of money coated in blood."
"What do you mean by money coated in blood?" Malfoy asked, "Were your parents assassins or something?" I frowned.
"No," I said, "My parents are dead. Besides, that money wasn't theirs."
"Whose was it then?" another first-year boy asked.
"I'm not sure," I said, "But they gave me a note when I opened the vault. I would show you, but it burnt up in flames after I read it." Tom knew this wasn't exactly true as he was with me when we went to the vault. There was no note.
Tom pulled me aside later and glared at me.
"Why would you lie about that?" Tom whispered, he was clearly upset, but I had no idea what he would do.
"I'd rather die than tell the truth about that," I said. How am I supposed to tell them that I got the money by making a deal with a kidnapper?
"You'd rather die?" Tom asked, "About telling them that I have a greater advantage?"
"I thought you were talking about where the money came from," I said, "But I wasn't lying about you having a greater advantage."
"What do you know?" Tom asked.
"More than I want to," I said, "Besides, don't you have to go to bed? Growing boys need their rest and all that?"
"What do they say about growing girls?" Tom asked with a smirk.
"Just go to bed, Riddle," I said. Tom nodded and left me alone. Only for three older Slytherin boys to corner me.
"Is this the one?" one of them asked, "The little mudblood girl who lied about having money?"
"She sure looks like her," the second one said.
"I think she should be glad we've taken an interest in her," the third one said.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"Why do you have such a weird accent, mudblood?" the second one asked.
"Because I'm from overseas," I said.
"Then why did you end up here?" the first one asked.
"I was sent here after my parents died," I lied, "My Mum was from here originally and I was supposed to live with my great Aunt, but I found out that she had died after I was already here. So, now I live in an orphanage."
"Where did the money come from?" the third boy asked.
"My great Aunt was a witch," I lied, "But she was a cheapskate as in she only bought necessary items."
"You're rather pretty," the second boy said, "Do you want to spend some time with us?"
"No, thank you," I said, "My boyfriend would be upset if I didn't go to bed when I said I would."
"Is Riddle your boyfriend?" the third boy asked.
"What a ridiculous notion," I said, "My boyfriend is obviously not here. I left him behind in the States."
"So, why would what he said matter?" the second boy asked.
"Because I still can't forget him," I said, "I doubt I'd forget him even if I died." Which was true, because I think I did die.
"Oh, all right," the third boy said, "Go sleep." I nodded and left to go to my bed.
