Chapter 7: Progress
I stood outside the lecture hall. I was too embarrassed to go in after what happened yesterday with Sesshomaru. I practically threw myself at him and he rejected me. Rejected by not one but two Taisho sons. I was really on a roll. Not only that but I was such a cliche. The class would start in ten minutes, and I couldn't miss it. I peeked in through the crack in the door. He was standing at the board, writing on it. I was trying to work up the nerve to go in there, but I was afraid I wouldn't find it.
"Kagome!"
My head snapped around. It was Inuyasha. Suddenly I found the courage I was lacking a couple of seconds ago. I threw the door open and ran down the stairs. I sat down and took out my books. I was hoping; no praying that Inuyasha wouldn't come in here. I could feel Sesshomaru's eyes on me, but I couldn't look up at him. A few seconds passed and I could hear him writing on the chalkboard again. Minutes passed by and the other students came in and I felt a little bit of the pressure go away. I felt my phone vibrating. I flipped it over, it was Inuyasha. I hit the decline button and blocked his number. I can't believe he thought I would speak to him after all of those things he said to me. There was that feeling again. My heart dropped to my stomach. I had forgotten what he had said to me, but only for a little while. Now, it was all coming back to me. I guess I had forgotten since I was so preoccupied with Sesshomaru. I gnawed on my lip. Trying my best to take notes. I would only look up when I knew he was facing the board. Eventually, the bell rang and I couldn't pack fast enough. He knocked his knuckles on my desk to get my attention.
"Yes, Mr. Taisho," I said without looking up.
"There is work for you to do. Please head to my office. I will be there shortly."
"Yes sir," I said, grabbing my things.
I headed to his office. Seeing the work he was talking about. It was a stack. Where the hell did all of it even come from? Was this because I was having a rough time and took that weekend off? For God's sake, he could have at least done some of it for me. I sighed. I guess if it was for two thousand dollars a month I could make it happen. I flipped through the papers. Thankfully some of them didn't even meet the page requirement. The majority of them should be quick. I sat down, put my hair up, and grabbed a pen. I was surprised some of them even made it to college writing the way that they did. You could tell that some of them were plagiarized. I'd bet my life on it. Before I knew it I was halfway through the stack of papers. There were some pretty impressive essays in there. I heard the door open and close. He was in here, but I still could not bring myself to look at him. I continued to grade papers. Pretending as if I wasn't freaking out on the inside. I had made it to my last paper and I was trying to make it stretch for as long as I could.
"Office hours will begin tomorrow. So, whichever students schedule appointments with you. You will be meeting with them. About a month from now, you will start to leave some of the classroom discussions if for any reason I am unavailable."
I nodded. "Yes sir."
I finished the last correction and set the paper aside. I didn't know where to look, so I just kept my eyes on the desk. I could see him moving out of the corner of my eye. He brought a file box over to me.
"These are the current students. Familiarize yourself with them."
I took the box from him, our hands brushing against one another. I quickly opened the box, taking out the papers. Flipping through them. I read through their information. Taking my time, moving painstakingly slowly. Almost an hour had passed. I only had three students left, until I was interrupted.
"You have not looked at me."
I froze. I didn't think he would have noticed.
"I have. Your back was turned. That's why you probably didn't realize when I looked at you."
"You have not met my eyes. Why is that?"
Dammit. Why was he even paying such close attention?
I sucked in a breath and slowly looked up at him, meeting his eyes. Ever since Sango brought it up that day I haven't been able to ignore it. Just how attractive he is… much more than Inuyasha at that. I liked looking at him a little too much. It was so easy to get lost in his eyes. I swallowed hard, licking my lips. I felt a little tingle between my legs. I pressed my thighs together tightly. Hoping that he didn't notice the change in my scent. I had been forgetting to hide my scent lately, and it was coming back to bite me in the ass. His eyes widened slightly.
Crap, he knew.
I shot up, packing the files back into the box.
"I'm sorry I have to go."
I practically ran for the door. Before I could open it, his hands appeared on both sides of me pressed up against the door. Meaning, I could not escape. My heart was pounding again. He was so close. I could feel that familiar heat against my back. I unconsciously leaned into him. It took me a second to realize what I had done, but I didn't want to move away from him. I heard him exhale. He let his arms drop. I could feel his fingers rub against mine. He trailed them up my arms. It sent a shiver down my spine. The tingling between my legs got worse. It was getting hot… and wet. His breathing became heavier. He slipped a hand around my waist and pulled me closer. I could feel him pressing against me.
"Mmmm."
A small moan slipped past my lips. I could feel his lips against the shell of my ear. He was barely doing anything but it felt so good, but as soon as it started it was over. I turned around, wondering why he stopped. His back was to me. He was hunched over the desk, breathing heavily.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"Don't be," I whispered. "You didn't have to stop. I don't want you to stop."
It was like someone else had taken over my body.
He looked over his shoulder. I could see the specs of red in his eyes.
"You should leave." he urged.
"I don't want to." I pushed back.
He stood slowly, facing me. He took slow steps toward me. As if he was giving me a chance to run. A chance to change my mind. But I wanted him to touch me. I'd never even thought of doing anything more than kissing Inuyasha. He cupped both my cheeks, touching his nose to mine. His lips hovered over mine. I closed my eyes, waiting for him to kiss me, but he never came. I opened my eyes, looking into his. They had gone back to normal. I wanted to hide. I had been rejected, again. I looked at the floor. He grabbed my chin making me look at him.
"Do not do that. I will say this once. I want you, more than you realize. In more ways than one. I have for quite some time, but not here. You're worth more than some fling in an office."
I tried to stop myself from smiling. It felt nice to know that at least he had some respect for me. He came close again and handed me my bag.
"I will see you tomorrow Kagome."
"I will see you tomorrow… Sesshomaru."
First name basis again; that's progress.
