Chapter 21: A Promise.
AN: Hey guts, my bad for not separating the POV, in the last chapter. That switch-up must have been annoying I thought I had. I'll pay more attention to it.
I looked down at my phone in confusion. I could not understand what I had done wrong. Was she angry because I told her to step out of the room? Before she'd even said anything, I knew by the tone of her voice, that she was not pleased. I wanted to call her back, but it was clear. She did not want to speak to me. At least not right now. I could see from the window that she was still parked in the lot.
"Fiancé? I had no such thing. Why would she ever…" I said trailing off.
I could feel the rage creeping up on me. The employees could feel it as well. I could see their looks of concern and fear.
"Himari." I bit out.
I went to my office and found her waiting there as I knew I would. I went to my desk and sat down. I tried to reign in my aura the best I could, but I was failing; miserably.
She smiled. "Hello, Darling. Whatever is the matter? You seem-"
I gripped my desk. It cracked slightly under the pressure.
"What have you done?"
She continued to smile. "I don't know what you mean. I have not done a thing. I've only been waiting here for you. As I always do."
She was paying the fool until the very end I see. How unbecoming.
"Do not play stupid Himari. I have no patience. What did you say to her? What did you say to Kagome?"
"Oh. You mean what did I say to the help? I did not say anything out of the ordinary. I only told her the truth darling."
"She is not the help." I snapped. "Watch your mouth, tread very lightly, and enlighten me on what twisted truth would that be Himari?"
I could see the annoyance on her face when I scolded her on Kagome's behalf. I did not care. She needed to learn her place, and I would teach it to her; here and now.
"Twisted? That is a bit much Sesshomaru. I said that we are to be married."
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Married? It is clear that you have lost your mind. I let you sulk around here out of pity because you are the daughter of one of my father's oldest friends. You are clinging to an old joke our fathers made when we were in college. You have let these scenarios run wild in your mind. Dreaming of what will never happen. What is wrong with you Himari!?"
She had a look of disbelief as if I had just crushed her dreams. It is fine if that is what it took. I would not let her ruin what Kagome and I had before it had properly begun.
"A joke? No, not a joke; a promise between two families. They said how great we looked together. That we were a perfect pair, and they were right. Why can you not see that?" she pressed.
"Are you mad woman!? There was no promise. There has never been a promise. You and I have never had anything romantic between us. No flirtation, not a lingering stare; Nothing! Can you even recall a time when I have touched you? If you had not initiated it. I have let you chase away other women who had shown interest in me. Not because I shared your feelings, but because I did not care for them, and I considered you to be doing me a favor. You deal with them so I did not have to. I have told you that I do not share your feelings. That I would never share them; but you refuse to listen. However, Himari as I stand here before you and say this. Heed my words. Lave her be. For your sake.
"For my sake? You have resorted to threatening me Sesshomaru? Is that where we are."
"Not a threat. A promise," I assured her.
"If I do not listen to your words?"
"You will not like what I will do to you."
"You've never spoken to me like this before, and now you are threatening me. I do not recognize you anymore. Your father will not like this. He-"
"Do not dare tell me what my father will or will not like. What my father will not like is you going out of your way. To harm one of the two women, he looks like a daughter. Neither of which are you. He extends you some kindness because of who your father is. He has loved her since she was a child. He took her in. He would give her anything she desired. To think you put yourself on the same level as her is laughable. She is a part of this family. You are not. Our fathers may be close, but you and I are nothing. We will never be anything. You will not get in the way of what is mine."
Her shoulders sank.
"Get in the way of what is yours?" she repeated.
"I did not stutter Himari."
She gasped. "You have chosen her?"
"I have. My family knows this as well. So please, feel free to reach out to my father for help; only to get nothing in return. They love KAgome. They have since she was a child. They will always choose her just as I will and will continue to do. Do not forget that."
"Sesshomaru I-"
"You - will not come back here. You will not show your face; not in front of me and especially not in front of Kagome. Nor any of my family members. If you do; family friend or not. I will ruin you and your father until there is nothing left. Do you understand me?"
"Sesshomaru plea-"
I banged my fist against the desk.
"Do you understand me!?"
Her mouth clamped shut, and she nodded.
"Good. I want you off the premises in the next ten minutes. If you are not gone in time. I will have security search the building for you and have you thrown out. I will make sure that there will be cameras outside to capture every moment of it."
I watched her rush out of the room with tears in her eyes. I pulled out my phone and sent a message to Kagome. I let her know she could go home for the day. I needed time to calm down, and I am sure she did as well. Our speaking today would only end in an argument, and I wished for no such thing.
I checked my phone. It was Sesshomaru. He told me I would not have to return for the rest of the day. I wasted no time peeling out of that parking lot. I sped home. I'm sure I had run a red light here and there, but I was too angry to care right now. I parked my car and rushed inside. I slammed the door shut behind me. I leaned against it and sank to the floor. I kicked off my shoes and just sighed. Just for once I had thought, it might just be me. How could I be such an idiot? I could feel my throat getting tight.
Shit, I did not want to cry anymore.
I pulled out my phone and dialed Sango's number.
"Hey, sweetness. How's it going? Do you miss me already?"
"Sango are you busy right now?" I asked, my lips trembled.
God, I sounded like a mess.
"I will be there soon. I promise."
